2012-02-09 11:53:00
I was out this morning when my temperature gauge started climbing higher. It never hit the red but when i checked the level it was empty. The alternator belt was slipping so i suspect there is a water pump fault. However since topping it up there seems to be a huge leak when its running, it runs fine the water just seems to be pouring out somewhere behind the engine.
Can anyone give me any idea what could be leaking? I’ve checked the haynes manual but doesn’t show any breakdown of what cooling related components are on that side of the engine.

Honda pulls forward major changes to Civic to this fall
2012-02-08 10:32:00
Honda will bring out a significant mid-cycle change to its embattled Civic compact this fall, just 18 months after it launched, a high-ranking executive told dealers here on Sunday. The move is a rush to improve the Civic in time for the 2013 model year. The Civic's cheapened interior and other reductions in content got a critical reviews from The Wall Street Journal, and Consumer Reports removed the model from its recommended list.John Mendel, executive vice president at American Honda Motor Co., previously had said Honda hoped to get a midcycle freshening for the Civic sometime in 2013. More recently, Honda executives said they hoped a change could come by the end of 2012.Even that would have been a feat, since most automakers wait three years into a five-year cycle fo...

Marchionne: Industry can hit 54.5-mpg goal
2012-02-05 21:17:00
Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said Saturday that the auto industry will need to meet proposed 54.5 mpg standards by 2025, and can do so despite NADA's opposition to the proposal."This standard is 14 years out," he told reporters after delivering a 30-minute keynote address to the NADA convention here. "If you start giving up on projects that are 14 years out, we might as well choose another occupation."The globe-trotting CEO said it was the first time he has set foot in Las Vegas.During the address and in remarks afterward, Marchionne, 59, also said:• Chrysler would maintain flexibility and transparency as it overhauls its suspended Dealer Standards program, saying all automakers "have to go beyond a system where the manufacturer issues top-down edicts" to dealers.• Pri...

GM's blueprint for Volt 2.0
2012-02-04 09:52:00
Volt teardown shows GM designed car for upgrades
The Chevrolet Volt stands as the most heavily promoted -- and harshly scrutinized -- vehicle from General Motors in decades. And that's just version 1.0.Amid the debate, one aspect of the Volt has escaped the notice of fans and critics alike: the roadmap for potential upgrades GM left buried deep inside.A bolt-by-bolt, surgical deconstruction of the Volt attended by Reuters without the involvement of GM showed how the plug-in hybrid was designed for relatively quick upgrades such as a longer driving range under electric power.By leaving what amounts to a blank slate at the heart of the Volt's complicated electronic controls, GM has cleared the way -- if the Volt succeeds -- for the quick improvements more common in consumer electronics than the slower-moving auto industry, analysts said. The glimpse of GM's ambition for future versions of the Volt comes at a make-or-break moment for the vehicle, designed to provide 40 miles of pure-electr...

U.S. regulators upgrade Jeep Liberty airbag probe
2012-02-03 14:15:00
U.S. safety regulators have upgraded an investigation into almost 387,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles for potential inadvertent airbag deployment, increasing the possibility of a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was upgrading its investigation of the 386,873 Chrysler SUVs from model years 2002 and 2003 to an engineering analysis, a step in a process that could lead to a recall if regulators determine that a manufacturer needs to address a safety issue. In two separate other NHTSA filings, Mazda Motor Corp Motor Corp. is recalling more than 52,000 older Tribute SUVs for potential brake fluid leaks, and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz has begun investigating consumer complaints of fuel odor that may be a leak in about 8,000 older E55 AMG sedans and wagons.F...

How to Install a Subwoofer In Your Car
2012-01-30 19:13:00
If you love music, and want high quality music in your car on the go, chances are you want to install a subwoofer. But if you don’t know how, then what do you do?Here is a video on how to do it:
Well, the first thing you’re going to want to do is pick up an amplifier and subwoofer of your choosing. Make sure they are compatible with each other, and with your headunit.Next, buy a wiring kit that will work for your sound system. The wires can be anywhere from 20 gauge (smallest) to 0 gauge (biggest). I recommend that you use what is suggested by the company that made the components. After that, you can begin routing your power source. Start by putting an “O” ring connector on one part of the wire. Next, find a firewall port and cut or drill a small hole in it, big enough so the wire can fit through, but small enough so that it is snug around the wire. Run it under trim inside of the car, until you reach the sub. Now, to install the power cable, remove your negative battery cable,...

Auto hacking seen as growing risk with electronics frenzy
2012-01-30 19:08:00
Drivers can talk with each other via Bluetooth phone connections, ask their cars for directions and dial up satellite radio. The same cars use electronic components to signal the gas pedal to accelerate and control stability. What increasingly worries scientists is that entertainment computers could be manipulated to tell the safety computers what to do."There clearly is a vulnerability," said Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Arlington, Va. "All these electronics we're bringing into cars seem to exacerbate that."A National Academy of Sciences panel, including Lund, elevated the concerns in a report Jan. 18 reviewing U.S. regulators' work in finding the cause of unintended acceleration in Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles. While safety and entertainm...

04 Honda CRV problems w/overheating and vtec system
2012-01-28 17:39:00
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. I have a 04 Honda CRV that recently overheated after I picked it up from a body shop that had done repairs from a minor accident in which they replaced the radiator. It may have been driven only a couple of minutes or possibly up to 10 minutes while overheated. The body shop had not filled the radiator apparently and they sent a guy to help me on the side of the road where I had pulled over. It took over a ½ a “jug” full of antifreeze and we had to wait for it to charge through the system before the heat in the car worked. The next morning the engine almost stalled twice, although did not completely stall (it more or less, “bucked” while moving), and the check engine light came on. The shop said the check engine light was due to an ...

Kia recalls 145,755 Optimas, Rondos in U.S.
2012-01-27 09:17:00
Kia Motors America is recalling 145,755 vehicles to fix a problem with the driver's side airbag that could potentially prevent it from deploying. The recall covers 2006-08 model Optimas and 2007-08 model Rondos, according to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web site safercar.gov.The problem originates with the clock spring assembly in the driver's side airbag which may become damaged over time. The damage can place high resistance on the electrical circuit, prompt an airbag warning light to illuminate on the instrument panel and compromise the airbag's ability to deploy, the automaker said in a letter to NHTSA. The condition could put drivers at risk for injury.Kia, which identified the problem in November, will begin notifying dealers and customer...

Brake Bleeder Screw Removal Tool
2012-01-24 09:29:00
It’s a known fact that working on cars can instantly turn good intentions into horrifying mistakes. You know, like when you snap a piece off of your plastic radiator by accident, when you spend an entire day failing at everything, or when you light yourself on fire. Yes, it’s times like these when you just want to roll your entire tool box into a giant smelting-hot volcano. Within minutes, your arsenal of tools collected over decades would be nothing but a gooey ball of liquid hot magma. Then you would never have to touch a stupid wrench again. Sadly, most of us don’t live near a liquid hot magma filled volcano, and if we did, we wouldn’t have the strength to push a tool box to the summit. So, we are forced to find viable solutions to these horrific mistakes as we wrench our way into the sunset.
This brings me to bleeder screws. OMG! But how?! Well, I am fairly certain that bleeder screws are the leading cause of the current economic crisis, 98% of failed marriages...
