2008-07-07 00:00:00
Seen something, been there. could not stop from posting it here. Well, I recently came across few fab. designs on guess what home entertainment centers. Ive seen modern TV stands, but these need more than mention as voguish home theater entertainment centers designed for those suave sophisticated homes and studio apartments with a up-to-minute urbane lifestyle. Styled highly as Italian contemporary furniture, BDI has a collection of furniture pieces that are exclusive, functional and great looking.
In Bill Beckers words, I have seen how great Design can positively affect everyday life. From cars to architecture to clothing, we gravitate toward items that energize, comfort and inspire us. For smaller TVs and Plasmas, BDIs Aspect Home Theater looks like the next big thing in small packaging. Designed for smaller flat screens , the TV stands central steel tube features a universal mounting bracket that fits most flat screen TVs and it swivels at the base so the screen can be v...

US Independence Day (July 4th)
2008-07-04 00:00:00
4th July is here. I am sure the Independence Day fervor is high with fireworks, summer festival, parades, barbecues, picnics(thats us), carnivals, baseball, and events celebrating the historical moments and customs of the United States. Well, wishing you all a super 232nd Independence Day (hey I saw wiki run a detailed feature on American history with some orig. pictures)! The PCA at Redwood will be holding parades, fireworks as usual we plan to go picnic with bunch of friends
I have been meaning to post a few entrees on outdoor wicker furniture, and forgot all about it till I saw an egg in the morning. Its not funny! You will know why. You see the my fave out of the threethe Hanging Egg Occasional Chair is a fancy thing and we like it for the patio. The cocoon shape is cozy and swinging will be fun for J, and evenings a pleasure. My admiration for wicker design outdoor furniture has grown four folds after I saw the design. Well, its safe to have one outdoors, around the garde...

ICFF HighlightsAdriana Hoyos
2008-07-02 00:00:00
Voted for Peoples choice award as the most memorable exhibitor at ICFF 2008, Adriana Hoyoss Caramelo collection has been admired for its modern appeal and traditional craftsmanship. Simply put, Hoyoss furniture is remarkable. Signature warm, ingenuous designs and her inspirational use of natural materials!
The Latin American designer is also popular as an interior designer who has been associated with major international chains such as Starwood, Swissotel, Hilton and the recently commissioned Trump Ocean Club Panama project. An accomplished international interior designer, Hoyos is a pioneer of her unique style in both interior design and the furniture collections. Her collections are themed around retro-modernism, and I admire her use of natural materials from back homeEcuador. Her collection has it all upholstered dining chairs, dining room furniture, contemporary sofas and home theater seating and many exciting designs rooted in nature.
One of my faves includes the T...

ICFF Highlights-Indi B Rugs
2008-06-30 00:00:00
Indi B Rugs grabbed attention at the ICFF (a Candyland; no way!) for their inventive floor coverings. I did fall for some of their stunning decorative rugs. After working for several years, as Lead Designer, Architect and Project Director for some well know international interior design firms, Beatrice Girelli decided the time was right to strike out on her own and founded Indi B that to unique home furnishings.
It seems with more than 600 exhibitors from every corner of the globe, texture was one of the theme at ICFF. So was woodcant forget Morimotos pendant lamps that were remarkable. Put on show were Girelli's IndiB multi-level cut and loop modern area rugs in wool, viscose and silk with color-saturated images of gingko leaves and branches.
My faves include the silver, the deck red and the branches.b. The Silver Rug I like for its individuality. The pattern is bold enough to fit into a variety of drawing and bedroom spaces, yet contemporary and soothing in its own way...

ICFF Highlights - Ducduc
2008-06-25 00:00:00
Must say my quest for kids furniture made interesting exploration. Also as I was keen on exceptional designs; and also did hit upon some really exciting ones in the segmentloft bunk beds, multi-functional modern kids bed, child bedroom furniture and some advanced designs in toddler furniture. Must mention DucDuc that I admire for its rational designs that are based on such clear kid-oriented practicality. In Philip Erdoes (CEO) words, Our basic principle is versatility. Every piece has to last a long time and warrant being in parts of the house other than the nursery." Thoughtful, just like their designs.
Must talk of their Cabana series. The full-size cabana canopy bed looks neat. The Mortise and tenon construction ensures strength and durability. For those wondering what it exactly means, it is a kind of carpentry used to attach two perpendicular pieces of wood where a carved out notch of one fits into a carved out hole of the other. The bolster pillows provide additional...

ICFF HighlightsArgington
2008-06-20 00:00:00
The emails were outstanding. Thank you, all you out there. Do also post up some comments. Yes, I know there have been more names in baby furniture that are synonymous with quality and sophistication. I would be covering up one by one, so that we dont miss out on any of the great kids furniture designs. I have seen kids bunk beds in so many fancy things and colors and sometimes they look, well.. Out-dated (who knows, they may actually be). The concept of bunk beds has been on for quite some time, I remember as a kid I used to wonder if there is something different too. A look at Argington furniture brought a smile to the child in me.
I must point out the Sahara Crib, and I am sure it would make parents happy too! Amongst a line of new designs in Argington nursery line, Sahara crib has it alla trundle storage drawer, 3-point mattress height adjustment, and the possibility of transforming the crib to a full-fledged bed with the help of a kit. I fell for the compact and ergonomic ...

ICFF Highlights - NURSERY WORKS
2008-06-18 00:00:00
The ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) this May (19th) held in NYC took a good deal 6-hours of walk to cover it up. Followed up by the Milan fair theme (not over with it), sticking with the green design, must mention the felt flip low chair design by Cate & Helson. Loved the Schmitt bamboo lamps (as always), the garbage chair and newspaper chair by CCA booth looked like fine attempts, and the Trubridges spiral Island booth as also the light sculpture Hori Morimoto were fabulous.
But, apart from the eco-designs, I found some great kids furniture that compelled this post. There were striking designs on kids playroom furniture, toddler bedroom furniture and modern baby furniture. The designs belong to Nursery work, an LA-based furnishings firm founded by Traci Fleming and Kaye Popofsky Kramer. Their furniture and furnishing strike a cord with parents and children looking for modern furniture, bedding and accessories.
Let's just say that Glenn Lawson and Grant F...

Milan HighlightsLa Fete
2008-06-16 00:00:00
At first the name struck the mind; next came the design (for once). Incidentally, one of my fav electropop music guysVive La Fetea Belgium group (reminiscence of 80s music) got me all nostalgic (try their first album Attaque Surprise) and all. Back to the design scene, the La Fete logo says the scene outdoors so I had to peep in. And must say I liked some of the catchy sculptural lounge seating stuff and a few contemporary outdoor furniture designs that just stood there gasping for airthey did their job well.
A joint venture of Angie Thornbury, asid/cid and Softub, Inc., a 20-year-old manufacturer of outdoor products, La fete plays a new concept in outdoor living. Their Crib outdoor bed has the attitude and modern instincts. The concept is dearly urbane. I learnt that the sculptural beauty uses patented polymeric technology. The structural foam and outdoors cushion foam has been sheathed in a waterproof membrane, and then covered with marine grade vinyl, the same marine...

Milan HighlightsAntiDiva
2008-06-13 00:00:00
More on Milan Show, I abs. loved the Janitor, eight rung ladder. The ladder equipped with a brilliant light bulb and short hanging switch at the very top, a ticker that allows the climber the time to think about use of energy consumption.
The next in focus is the designer furniture store AntiDiva. AntiDivas Fluetta and Bloob won the Young design award in earlier Milan Furniture Shows. A baby of Maurizio Giodani, I think the Confident grabbed attention as a fine piece of furniture. A great one-piece structure frame construction in Pine, the squares are homogeneous, and the effect is stunning. The structure uses polyurethane padding with a polyamide velvet support. Seat and back in polyurethane foam can be filled with sterilized duck down (great for people allergic to synthetic fiber, like myself) or regular acrylic fibers. Looks like the thing for hotels, office receptions and contemporary homes.
On modern living room furniture, the au courant Sally is an armchair that strikes...

Milan HIGHLIGHTSCattelan Italia
2008-06-11 00:00:00
Green was the fervor this April at the Milan fair 2008. And we had moments inviting us to more practical aspects of eco-friendliness (greenagry design). I loved the sight of Toshiyukis Sunplant at the entrance; the structure I learnt used photovoltaic cells to charge rechargeable batteries. The big entrance sign Viva il Verde! Go Green was a fresh note to start with
On the furniture highlights, I plan to start a series of posts on the popular happening brands and designs in the event (you bet there were many) to ensure I cover systematically. Must say there were a host of bedroom interior design ideas, modern console tables, contemporary TV stands and dining room chairs that caught the attention.
Starting with Italys very own Cattelan Italia. The highlights??? I must say the Valentinox Console was stunning. It makes ingenuous furniture revealing superb engineering. Designed by Emanuele Zenere, the polished steel stainless steel base and the cylinder stun as stark shapes, ...

2008-06-09 00:00:00
Indoors have been out for a long time, at least from my posts. But living room trends have been bolder than even and my guess is that its here for keeps; and modern seating includes so much more than before the fashion statement includes contemporary living room couch, sectional sofas, and fabric sofas. Allowing your living room to breathe in curious color co-ordinations and unusual furniture calls for a shift in outlook and perspective.
For some of us, it may just not be the thing. So, I dedicate the blog to peppy designs that strike a modern note without overbearing or understating its presence. Check out the space for more such ideas to come up
On a practical note, the concept may be what you are used to, but wrapped in a fresh scheming in terms of color, fabric and print. The Imelda collection reflects just this very idea. A great collection combo consisting of a chaise, ottoman and 2-seater sofa, the color and print is contemporary without ever going overboard, and ...

Bouquet ChairMoroso
2008-06-06 00:00:00
You believe delicate is the word to describe flowers; all I can say is think again, for the Bouquet chair is a flower for you to sit on. One of the most contemporary designs in modern chairs, Bouquet has been designed for Moroso, an Italian designer furnitures manufacturer. Tokujin Yoshioka built the prototype out of 30,000 sheets of tissue paper (!!!!!) Later the tissue paper was replaced with faux suede in the final version. The little garden bouquet chair is an extraordinary piece of furniture.......
Another popular creation by Moroso, the Pane/Panne Chair has been named after its unique manufacturing method that used a mold that bakes the raw materials in a large oven, hardening and securing their form. Moroso, wanting to create a similar concept within practical course, introduced different prototypes in Milan that conformed to any body contour. Upholstered in a puffy white quilted industrial fabric used for carrying precision instruments, pulled over the chair form.

Outdoor Seating........
2008-06-04 00:00:00
There is a string of patio stuff that seems to have caught the imagination. I know you guys are curious about outdoor sofa / deep seating, deep seating outdoor furniture, wicker furniture and garden furniture. I have covered wicker and other deep seaters, rest will follow up. Well, better things early off; I like all your comments on the chaises, sofas and club chairs, all you guys.
On more settees in the patio segment, lets go about a frenzy over some really typical designs on patio sofa, such as the Victoria armchair and ottoman. The teak wood construction with mortise and tenon joinery reminds me of the classic shape in a new bold remodel. Teak is one of my favorites after wicker when it comes to outdoor furniture. It is naturally resistant to weathering, and what I like is the comfy sunbrella cushions in quite some range of colors. I think makes a decent all-round design outdoors
Coming back to the theme, the extension of Victoria is the this deep seating settee..I think ...

MIAMI - ART DECO DISTRICT
2008-06-03 00:00:00
I decided to spend my spring break in Miami. The weather was rainy and thunderstormy unlike the Floridas sun-drenched beaches.... in any case, I got to hang out at the South Beach where art deco buildings are concentrated. As modern architecture keeps evolving, South Beach claims to home the largest collection of Deco architecture in the world. And perhaps equally fitting sounds the idea of preserving it in its original state; it was certainly the thought behind the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL), founded by Barbara Capitman in 1976, in tandem with designers Leonard Horowitz and Lillian Barber to establish this section as a historic district.
The Art Deco District in Miami Beach has the biggest assimilation of 1920s and 1930s resort architecture in the world. Symbolizing an era when Miami was immensely promoted as a tropical playground, the vivid colored buildings are a delight to look at. The Art Deco District was one of the first National Register listings to recogn...

NEW MODERN CITIES PLANNED IN SAUDI ARABIA
2008-05-29 00:00:00
Talking of development and modern architecture, the focus is Saudi Arabiathe oil kingdom of the globe. With the hike in oil prices since 2002, a barrel touching $130 this month, the Saudi economy has picked up like fire in last five years. The result has been a well-planned diversification beyond the oil exports. Worlds largest Petrochemical plant; Petro Rabigh a joint venture by state-run oil company Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemicals of Japan. The project is Saudi Arabias boldest bet to create its identity beyond the oil regime, as an industrial powerhouse. The plant is part of a $500 billion investment program to build new contemporary cities, create millions of jobs and diversify the economy away from petroleum exports over the next two decades.
Abu Dhabi alone has been planning to spend about $1 billion for a new museum with the help of the Louvre, Paris. Dubai is planning to build a small-scale replica of the French city of Lyon, complete with residential housing, a mus...

Geoffrey Bawa and Sustainability
2008-05-27 00:00:00
Last year on my visit to Srilanka, I had the chance of witnessing the work of the great Geoffrey Bawa. It was one thing to read about his architectural aptitude (and see his work on paper) and quite another to actually see what it means to tie modernity within the roots of a rich architectural culture. Unique to his work, one of his earliest buildings, a courtyard house built in Colombo for Ena De Silva in 1961 is an excellent example of this merger. Bawa has fused elements of Sinhalese domestic architecture and effortlessly blended it with concepts of open planning, indicating that an outdoor life can be equally viable on a tight urban plot.
Some of his prominent buildings include the Bentota Beach Hotel of 1968 which was Sri Lanka's first function-based modern resort hotel that looks into the needs of tourist with a rare sense of place and continuity. And its awesome! Then the famous Parliament house that is a spectacular sequence of copper roofs floating above a series of te...

Doshi and Louis Kahn - Sustainable Design Life
2008-05-20 00:00:00
Moving from Srilanka, I made a long due visit to India. I have been meaning to do an architectural tour esp. on the work of Mr. BV Doshi. Being modern and far-sighted does not always mean going off the league. This probably has been the mantra of visionary architects like Bal Krishna Vithaldas Doshi. I dedicate this blog to this well-known figure in Indian architecture. His work is inspiring for its sheer originality, sustainability, India ness and greenability. Born in Pune, India in 1927, he is an alumnus of the J. J. School of Art, Bombay. He was appointed as a senior designer on Le Corbusier's projects at Ahmedabad and Chandigarh in 1950. Doshi worked closely with Louis Kahn and Anant Raje, when Kahn designed the campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. In 1958, he was a fellow at the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.
B.V. Doshi started his private practice in 1956 at Ahmedabad, known as Vastu-Shilpa, followed in 1962 by a firm called t...

Clubbing is on!
2008-05-06 00:00:00
I like the response on outdoor stuff. Well, I thought I almost covered it all on outdoor seating and outdoor clubchairs, but then I knew there is more to it(call it intuition). More of the history, the old Victorian leather club chairs were cute button-backed things, buddies with the Chesterfield sofas. Historically, leather was more of the club chair upholstery, considered gentlemans furnishing material. From then to now, well we dont cling so much to leather.
As to the modern outdoor furniture version, must say the Luma Contemporary has got the appeal. The broad seat and back are comfortable in cozy fabric (not leather), and the anodized aluminium looks perffffect for outdoors. But what I really like is the delicate balance of function and aesthetics. The ITTO and IBAMA certified material would make a practical choice for most quality conscious buyers. The polyboard surface in grey is good against all the colors, but I personally prefer frost grey for its neutral ness.i think i...

Missing it out on outdoor tables
2008-04-29 00:00:00
There we go. I have been reading mails on more chairs, more sofas, and more mores like outdoor barstools and settes and, outdoor tables to go with such designsso, I am going to look into each, one at a time.
On outdoor seating and sofas, I guess I missed on settes and they really are great outdoor things to have any day. The Luma Settee looks like the modern version of the ex- f-o-r-m. One from the award-winning fabricator, made with IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) certified Ipe wood and anodized aluminium. I like the clean aesthetic lines and the finish that reflects the inherent natural beauty of Ipe. Ipe is claimed to be naturally resistant to rot, insects, UV exposure, ice, salt, abrasion, and splintering (and even 3 times harder than teak)! Designed for outdoors, the anodized aluminum ensures corrosion resistance, resistance to contamination and bacteria growth. I like it without any cushions, but there are cushions available too.

Club it with Chairs
2008-04-24 00:00:00
On outdoor seating stuff, I dedicate this blog to club chairs. Ever since its popularity in the nineteenth century in England, club chairs have been paralleled with relaxation (all men furniture then, now no more). Outdoor club chairs and sofas may have been upgraded to use more innovative materials, but the quintessence is the same. Still meant for relaxation, the designs have grown more innovative and comfortable.
Must highlight the ones I find very close to the past concept. Thinking of getting one of these modern club chairs by the end of this year as we shift to our new home with more open space. The Club 6 armchair is closest to the olden idea of relaxation. And what I like is the broad snug seat and back and the firm steel base that looks like leisure without carrying the bulkiness from the past. It is bestowed with a strange quality of lightness, which actually is soothing. Made from polyethylene-based synthetic fiberslooks like sturdy stuffmade to weather off bad ...

The Story of the Flower and the Embroidery
2008-04-15 00:00:00
Lets look at a situation. You are through with the painting, curtains and décor and some accessories, and suddenly, you look at the picture perfect room and wonder, where is the punch..how do you break the color even..add that something which balances off the accent color and adds a lively vibrancy to the room. A big dasssssh of your personality to a décor wont look too bad either.or else the room will end up looking like a great remake of the perfect bedroom, without any personal touch
Well, I always say the smallest thing done in a thoughtful and creative way can do the wonder. A vase with a single tulip, a picture frame in accent color, a few complimentary or contrasting decorative pillows.all can just do great to bring in life to your décor.talking of pillow covers.must say they make a whole lot of difference when you know how to use them.take a look at a few of these beauties.

Exclusively, for Kids!
2008-04-10 00:00:00
They say everything comes off age. Literally, for growing toddlers, creativity means something different than what we adults perceive (its aging off with adults, I guesssmile). Small little details are all they need to stir up their imagination. And kids pillows are a great way to introduce your little ones to fun and learning. Just like they have those abc crib sheets for 1 year olds, you have exciting themes in floral and animals to add up to the colors in kids bedrooms.
You get designer kids pillows that can quite do the magic for your little soldiers. I tried with a few of these kids animal pillows for one of my clients, and the mural was done in different colored birds and animals, so I matched up the theme with animal pillows. Perhaps, you could do something to enhance the effect ...something off your imagination, take a look.
Ha hathe cutest pair of frogs, I quite like the Zoo Cotton Frog set.isnt it vibrant! The twin pair is done in natural fibers and no hard element...

For the Bedding Effects!
2008-04-03 00:00:00
The blog on bedding had me all glued to my email and all. Well, I guess I cant agree more on it.you see! Designer Bedding is an important bedroom article and it makes sense investing in some of these things for sleep, comfort and durability. For quality, you still need to shed off some bucks.and thats one way to ensure you brought the right thing back home.
On luxury bedding designs, almost everything seems to be in, colors are in, big floral patterns and retro patterns look cool and a blend nmatch theme works wellhonestly, what the heck, I mean.just add some of those luxurious cushions, throw pillows and covers and theme it all up.whats important is your creativity,so work up something on your own to match the scheming, and you must take a look at these casual bedding sets that look sooooo cool
The Pollen is what I mean by retro. Well, I guess every buck you pay is worth it. The reversible coverlet with hand-quilted patchwork with pure silk and. the pillows and throw pill...

Lighting with Substance
2008-04-01 00:00:00
I have often wondered about the utility part of lamps in everyday life. And I do know it for a fact that decorative table lamps can do wonders to the way a scheme appears in everyday life. For creating the kind of ambience you crave for, lights can actually be used to change the mood of any setting dramatically. Whywhite lights have not been the favorite ones for designers, though they save fuel. Now you also get energy efficient bulbs that give you yellow light and also save electricity by about 60 per cent . Wow and it so much fun to play with lighting and effects ..its a completely creative experience
Speaking of which, I must add a few more entries to the modern table lamp categorywhy you get adjustable desk lamps that not just look good, but also offer you utility and great aesthetic appeal
The Bel Occhio Pendant by Pablo Pardo looks like the most interesting design. Done in blow molded acrylic sphere, the multi-position spot light cum table lamp makes quite a statement. ...

A-La Loft Bed
2008-03-27 00:00:00
Ok, in response to your comment on bedroom lighting, I personally feel too much of fancy lighting is not needed in the bedroom; its more of a resting space so you can do with subdued shades with modern looking lamp base and structureslights with dimmers are great too; for they allow you to decide the ambience and set it up as per your need. Allow yellow and blue lights to help you relax, bright color shades and heavy stuff can look bulky we all have our individual tastes and preference, go for a style that tunes with your lifestyle and other bedroom furniture. Personally, I like casual lamps in unique shapes that gels with my bedroom suite in a perfect
Bedroom sets and suites come with a range of furniture and variety of nightstands and lighting. Talking of loft bedroom furniture, loft beds happen to be vogue. The simple construction and Oriental look is quite in and I would like to mention these designs in modern bedroom collections that allow the West and the East to fuse ...

Not for AllLights and Magic
2008-03-25 00:00:00
Isnt it true that a room can come to life with well-planned lighting! No wonder decorative floor lamps have come such a long way well, I must say if you know the personal assets and features of your home, you should be able to highlight them with the use of classic lighting. Its not just the photographs and the paintings that need appropriate lighting, you can bring different shades and colors to a space with tastefully done light jobfrom corners to artifacts and stuff you wish to highlight
On the note, my best pal Ann once posed her creative skills in actually creating a warmer and brighter effect using colored shades.and I have never been more convinced! There are many contemporary floor lighting options that can bring to life a whole array of possibilities. Must mention the Medusa with its unconventional curvilinear structure. The flaps go so well with the light to create a perfect combo of alternate shading and light. The lacquered steel construction by Olaf Vohn Bohr was a ...

Wall, Mirrors and you!!!
2008-03-20 00:00:00
Dressers and mirrorsits team work at best. I have been meaning to do a blog on decorative bedroom mirrors for long. And we only need to open our eyes to be inspired with these valuable beauties, they are more than reality tickersthey make great space enhancers. Feng shui is said to place a lot of importance on arranging mirrors to attract positive energy and distract any negativities from the outdoors. It recommends arranging the mirror opposite the drawing or living area to minimize negative energy due to the reflecting properties of glass
Coming to the functional part, I feel that both bedroom wall mounted mirrors and modern floor standing mirrors have their own importance. A bedroom mirror mounted on wall saves the hassles when space is a constraint, it serves the purpose welland floor standing mirrors, well they have their own decorative and functional purpose
The Cirque is what circles are all about. The circular symphony strikes quite a cord with most decorative sche...

Designer Bedding
2008-03-18 00:00:00
You read it right. Just before you close your eyes on it, dont forget to check out what symphony it plays with comfort and quality. Quite literally! Investing in luxury bedding sets made from high-count cotton with satin finish maybe a good idea. The idea is not indulgence, but sheer wisdom and longevity. I have a few of these designer-bedding sets (gifted) and J is 3 now; and the sheets are bright and soft as new
Another idea I dwell upon is minimizing the use of pinks and blues; they are just plain outdated. Use fresh colors. team up with brighter, complementing and neutral shades, like you can have sheets in plain ivory and team it up with a modern duvet cover in beige or violet; or opt some great designer sets that look novel and also provide great comfortand you can always match up with neutral or complementary curtains. check out these sets I really like,

Well, I got an overwhelming response from you all on more designer bedroom ideas. More to come up. like they say watch this space! Meanwhile, lets talk about the award winning designer from San Francisco, Rick Lee . cant help talking about his creationshis leather dining chairs, beds, all a witness of his modern outlook with detailed engineeringwhen you see a design, you know it has to be Rick Lee.you come to know over a period of time, though..
Say the Zenaro Hi-Gloss Bedroom Suite, for example, the careful merging of shape, function and form and the signature touch of sophistication. The shape. There is no air of pretensionI like the understated elegance, the platform bed with wooden slats for robust frame construction, the wooden headboard with a bold slash of leather, wooden armoire, the hourglass shaped mirror, the angled nightstands with great aluminium inserts for draws, all of it is just fantastic stuff! Guess, this one comes in three sizes..
We also have the Trio B...

Block by Block Brock Brandenberg
2008-03-11 00:00:00
Well, I think you guys like bamboo furniture too (isnt it awesome). Talking of green furniture, what do you call a designer who takes creativity to the next level to build up fantastic furniture systems that require little or no assembly? Brock Brandenberg, of course! The designer has been Legares original creator in line, the founder of the patented designs. His contemporary twist to sustainable furniture is quite fun to get on toes, really! I like his innovative consumer products, be it furniture, consumer electronics or computer software! The interesting part is that with his growing admirers in North America, Germany, England, Japan and Korea; his designs remain original and green.
Take a look at a few ones from my personal fav. list
This one is unadulterated fun for kids. Get them to assemble, for its quite easy. The Raul Kids Multi-Pack Workstation requires no bolts or screws to stand up. Just about 3 minutes to assemble Well, the unit has a full-size desk, PDA Shelf, C...

LAS VEGAS FROM NON DESCRIPT TO CREATIVE GEHRY
2008-03-06 00:00:00
Modern architecture has come to mean so muchdesigner architecture, organic architecture, and some creative work by Gehry! The world-renowned architect is here with a new project that will give Bugsy Siegels gambling city of Las Vegas a new face-lift. And we love it, Frank Gehry. Flamingo, Siegels lavish hotel set the tone of construction for similar gambling skyscrapers (underworld monies) right in the 50s.
Literary genius and journalist Tom Wolfe contended that Siegel influenced the whole of America's architecture. He opined, "Las Vegas' neon sculpture, its fantastic fifteen-story-high display signs, parabolas, boomerangs, rhomboids, trapezoids and all the rest of it, are already the staple design of the American landscape outside of the oldest parts of the oldest cities". Wellwell. we know how it has been, I think the city is almost gratified with the positive attention it is being paid latelyand we hope it sets up the trend .it has in Nevada, already
As to the project, F...

To Leather and Its Priceless Charms!
2008-03-04 00:00:00
Reinvent the theme in your bedroom with things that allow you to experiment. I normally play with the safest things, rounding up on some stable factors that I cant afford to go wrong with. So, we have the bed in this list, and the furniture. Now, imagine what do I play with, keeping the universality intact, I play around with lighting, rugs, paintings, hangings, mirrors and hand-made art to create the effect thats quite my own taste.it helps me feel at home.
I am sure we juggle with ideas for décor. And bedroom is a quiet respite, one that helps me return back to myself everyday. It needs to carry elements from my life that are important, my family pics, art (preserved ones too), and pieces that have a special meaning and value to me. Often, I find bedrooms to looking like designer Hotel suites with the best beds, furniture and art which is excellent too, except that they look all alike and cold, and one cannot imagine entering such a respite everyday.
Ok, coming back to the...

Rediscovering The Spirit Of End Tables
2008-02-28 00:00:00
Does your end table stay neatly stacked against the wall? No? Well, mine did till I recently discovered its multifunctional features. As to the use of end tables, it is beyond me why modern side tables are paid so little attention. They may be those tiny bits covering small spaces in your living or bedroom, but they are so much more
You can use them for all those last minute things, putting stamps on letters( yeah, writing letters is slowly dying out), fixing up a gadget, reading a book or even pulling it up for coffee when a friend unexpectedly turns upbesides its regular use against the wall.its just getting creative with using furniture. Most of the times, the concept outlives our vision. Here, end tables can mean a lot and I have seen studio apartments with these beauties gaining supreme advantage for its many-faceted personality and petite looks
I like the Marco Cosmopolitan for its inherent features. The chromed frame and frosted glass top and shelf allow you to quietly ...

Exclusively Executive!
2008-02-26 00:00:00
When it comes to Executive chairs, you can pick the features that appeal personally to you. It could be one that allows you to work in a poised way, one that is not only executive to look at, but actually and seriously ergonomic. A name thats gaining attention is Izzy designs and for good reasons, of course. Most of its designs are modern and live up the green theme.
I have come across office settings that can be easily added to the wow-factor, those swivel adjustable chairs that become the centerpieces and sit cool by the side of your desk. I feel the best choice would be to align your aesthetic and functional needs by picking the features that appeal to you.
I personally like lofty chairs for their minimal, high-design feel. If you have a general sense of what would right for modern executive office chairs go for it. I have put together a few models and ideas to match your desire,
Looks like a product of great engineering to me, the Isis Task Chair. For all ergonomic d...

Classroom Blues
2008-02-21 00:00:00
I was in Js school the other day (his early school days n how he gets mad if I am not on time!), and guess what, the whole school experience came alive in front of my eyes. Waiting for him, I glanced through the classrooms and found out that little has changed in terms of furniture. The same old chairs peeping back. my mind revolted, Cant we have something better?. I did put up my thoughts in the suggestion box but before I could say, I had to find out if there has been a change in classroom furniture ( !!). including chairs that kids spend quite some time sitting on
On briefly going through some models, I liked a couple. I have done a few murals for the junior classes just when the school went into business, and hopefully they wouldnt mind me suggesting good chair models too. You can use them at home too, right next to the study table. Here are some I lay my eyes upon,
The Catie Student Chair is a fabulous design. The ergonomics are just puuuurfect. The arched back and seat...

Tasking Up With Ergo Chairs
2008-02-19 00:00:00
It appears like the world functionality was invented in pairs, look at it, you need something to work on the other; screwdrivers to unbolt screws, pots for planting flowers, and chairs for working on tables. Just like tables, chairs are essential to maintain a right body posture, and for comfort at work. Ergonomics has gained new meaning with modular light chairs supporting the body contours to provide ease for long working hours.
You can find different variety of office chairs that are designed with specific purpose in mind. I recently came across one of those walkway furniture fairs with many ergonomic office chairs that claimed to be restful. There were swivel chairs, executive stuff, and other light materials that looked snug, but werent exactly what they proclaimed when I took a seat. I realize cheap makeovers of designer stuff cannot copy everything, not comfort, for one. So, I am back to square one, after wasting time and learning from it. Here are the originals you can v...

Never Too Tall for Tables !
2008-02-14 00:00:00
I have got into this table thing so much I cant really pull back now. And tables in different shapes are such a delight to the eye. There is so much we need tables for, at office and home extendible tables for dining, corner computer desks for work, modern office desks for meetings, designer office tables for routine work. We need tables for recreation, for study n for play, for almost a list of most important things I can think of. Come to think of it, how would your world look (and work) without these timeless beauties?
Maybe we dont realize the value (you know what I mean) of it in everyday life for its always there stacked in the corner quietly, waiting to serve you (just fancying at my best.). But, this ones really from the heart for tables we had, we will have with the changing materials, shapes and cooler designs. here are a few office power horses for your eyes,
This one I like for its unusual and broad spacey top. The extended D-top table is called Rylee D-top and i...

Valentine Day Special - Modern Gifts
2008-02-13 00:00:00
What is the word nuzzles thats not so Valentine? Bet its the not-so-common gift after all. If you are through with tiring pinks and blues online, you know the overbearing stuff like cuddly bears and chocolates, pearls, diamonds, perfumes, and leather stuff (I know how it is), you would know what I really mean by out of the box modern gifts? You know sensible stuff that will make someone notice. Things that are down-to-earth, mature and bestowed with qualities that are personal; something you know your mate, fiancé or wife will like. come to talk of it.
No, I am not suggesting the same stuff in different packaging. Just think of the times you spent together; and something besides the diamond rings and gadgets that brought a sparkle to his/her eye Personally, I like to add a line with the gift, a line we both know together, something which is our line. we all have it. just rack your brains, and get original and find a gift thats more like you and herhere are a few ideas,
