Alex Pardee's New Line Now Available
2008-02-20 12:15:00
You can now check out Alex Pardee's new line at Zero Friends. In case you don't know, Alex Pardee is an amazing artist from the Bay Area who makes some very expressive and absurd art. He has designed artwork for the album of The Used group, "In Love and Death" as well as for their Website, marketing campaign, and their music video for the single “All That I’ve Got.” Alex Pardee is also responsible for the phenomenon called CHADAM a character he designed again for The Used latest album "Lies for the Liars". When it comes to t-shirts his art can be bought through Upper Playground and, of course, Zero Friends. His new designs, around 9 designs some in several color variations, are absolutely amazing. My favorite ones would be The Backpack and Stomach Bodies, two incredible four-color prints. Finally, if you visit Zero friends don't forget to check out the Prints section for some more kick ass artwork you won't find on t-shirts. ...

Geometric Loveliness at Concrete Hermit
2008-02-19 12:14:00
I never thought I would, but I do love these new t-shirts by Concrete Hermit. Geometric figures, multiple lines, and a confident composition are the main elements of "Starliner" and "Vortex". ...

Electric Zombie Shirts
2008-02-16 23:40:00
I had promised to write this review about two months ago but I never had the chance to do so until now. Is it because these designs scare the shit out of me? Maybe... The store is called Electric Zombie and the designs are made by Kyle Crawford a designer out of Tampa, Florida, who has been designing for Rockett Clothing for more than three years. To be honest, these are not the kind of shirts I would personally wear because they are a little too scary and I'm not into this culture at all (yes, I know it's not suppose to have this effect on people but I didn't grow up watching scary and splatter films and... I'm a chicken, ok?). Nevertheless, I do believe Electric Zombie shirts are pretty cool and impressive pieces with an amazing visual impact. And...right now they are sold for 10 bucks only! ...

Fashion Rules by Go Ape

T-shirt Scam
2008-02-15 17:38:00
I was contacted the other day by Chris, designer and owner of Ichabods, who brought to my attention a current t-shirt scam. It looks like a guy who goes by the name of Bill Farley or Will Farley or Will Skrivseth, contacts companies pretending to be some wardrobe rep. for some film called Dead End Streets and asks for some t-shirts for actor Justin Chatwin. Now, I have seen a few scams including t-shirt scams but this one is pretty damn evil. The guy throws a lot of names to impress you and pushes the most dangerous button; vanity, and vanity, I'm sorry my dearest designers and artists, is a big weakness. So anyway, the whole point is to get the word out regarding the scam. If you wish you can read all the email exchanged between this guy and Ichabods at Ichabods' blog. Also Plopculture has another article about the same scam. ...

The Cyberman by Faded Line
2008-02-14 14:54:00
I found this interesting Cyberman t-shirt at a new store called Faded Line and I think it worths mentioning. Faded Line is only two months old and has a few designs available and more to come. Their designs are based on rock art posters by bands like Tool, The Pixies, Ben Harper, Ween, and The Flaming Lips but the company's goal is "to bring the artists to the forefront rather than be overshadowed by a band's name". The Cyberman, which is my personal pick from this store, was originally featured on a concert poster by artist Emek for Tool. More info about the artist at Emek.net. ...

New and Upcoming Shirts by Turtlehead
2008-02-14 10:37:00
It looks like the folks over Turtlehead have been busy lately. They just released three new designs in collaboration with the The Polyphonic Spree, a "choral symphonic rock" group from Dallas, Texas and they're in the works of five more shirts by several artists. The Polyphonic Spree's latest album is called "Fragile Army" and it has clearly been the inspiration for the new designs. I'm wondering how different things would be if the army threw bombs of love? Anyway, if you're up for an extravaganza you might wanna check out the "Love Grenade" silver design, which is limited to 50 designs only and costs $100! ...

Valentine's Day Grab Bags by [ 2 one 5 ]!
2008-02-08 15:27:00
Ok crazy [ 2 one 5 ] fans, here's the deal; starting from today, [ 2 one 5 ] will offer 3 shirts for a total of $30! Yey! I know.... Wait wait wait, there's a catch; you don't get to pick the tees and there are no returns or exchanges. If you don't care getting a duplicate (which you can always give it as a gift) this is a mad price considering the fact that normally [ 2 one 5 ] shirts go for around $35 each. ...

The Pencil Man
2008-02-07 22:10:00
Among the recent winners of the "Mech-Tech" competition at Allmightys there was this brilliant design by artist YONIL. According to the artist "The Pencil Man" is a metaphor; the sharpener symbolizes the mind, the idea, the concept whereas the pencil symbolizes the tools, the hands, who actually create the final piece of art. It's very interesting to see this kind of designs, who offer a great insight, being chosen and awarded. The next Allmightys competition is titled "I am Thinking.." so I'm excited to see what designs it will bring us... ...

Zazzle vs Cafepress?
2008-02-07 14:11:00
I just read an interesting article at Custom T-Shirt Talk about Zazzle trying to recruit some of Cafepress' shopkeepers. Truth is that Zazzle has been changing a lot lately, improving the website and changing their commission policy. So I contacted some friends who happen to be CP shopkeepers and it looks like for couple of those this happens to be the case. According to some rumors, a big share of Zazzle has been bought by the Murdoch Corp and if that's truth it may justify the changes, the inflow of capital, and this "aggressive" tactic. Now the question is, why someone would leave Cafepress to migrate to Zazzle? One reason I can think right away is the printing quality and the product variety that Zazzle offers. I recently bought a t-shirt from Zazzle and I have to admit their printing q...

Tee vs Tee is Addictive!
2008-02-07 00:35:00
I just discovered Tee vs Tee and I'm hooked to this damn site! Tee vs Tee is basically a site where several t-shirt designs compete against each other and people can vote for their favorite one. Could the goal be to find the one, the ultimate, the best t-shirt? Could even exist such a thing? Frankly I don't think so but that didn't stop me from voting for at least 30 minutes! If you're bored of the typical humorous/offensive/attitude t-shirts you have the choice to vote in the artsy and indie category. There's also the Leaderboard page where you can check out the rankings of all designs and in each separate category. Finally, there's a blog that fills you in regarding updates, corrections, upgrades and of course gives you the chance to chat and comment about the t-shirts. Tee vs Tee is a great source of t-shirts and a very pleasant way to pass your time... NICE! ...

Roman Apparel and The SOLD Project
2008-02-06 20:37:00
The SOLD Project is an organization devoted to spreading awareness regarding child prostitution around the world. A team of 7 twenty somethings embarked on a trip to South East Asia to document this $10billion a year industry and find the causes of this tragic reality. You can watch the tailer here. Roman Apparel has partnered with this group to help raise money for the education of young orphans recently rescued from a life of sexual slavery in South East Asia. For this cause they've created this SOLD Project T-Shirt. The t-shirt costs $31 and half of the proceeds are going directly to the SOLD Project education fund. According to Will Roman (owner of the Roman Apparel) the design features "a beautiful watercolor design which evokes a feeling of childhood innocence". I'd say this is a very beautiful t-shirt no mater what, but if you can help these children by purchasing it, that's even better! ...

Akumu Ink Shirts
2008-02-06 19:08:00
Akumu means nightmare in Japanese but these shirts from Akumu Ink are not a nightmare just yet. I accidentally, bumped into this little shop from Canada and I'm so digging their "Of Horror I" shirt. I actually think I'll add it to my collection of bloody designs! As I said, Akumu Ink is a little store based in Canada and is the creation of Joey and Dora who get their inspiration from movies, music, and their own imagination. They print on American Apparel Fine Jersey cotton t-shirts and they sell in very reasonable prices ($21.00). I'm looking forward to seeing more of these bloody designs of theirs... ...

Family Tree T-shirt
2008-02-04 18:58:00
One of last week's winning designs at DBH was "Family Tree" which is so crazy. I'm loving it. Among all the weird designs around, finally something original! I also liked today's winner, "Snakey Shaky Heart". Nice warm colors and so appropriate for Valentine's (I wouldn't expect anything less from DBH for this occasion). Hehe...I think we're going to see more beautiful designs from this artist.----------------Now playing: Air - Sexy Boyvia FoxyTunes ...

Elevation...
2008-02-02 19:36:00
Three new t-shirts are out from 302, all in the typical 302 spirit. The new designs are: "Crescendo", "Perspective" and women's "Elevation". The later is one of my favorites not so much because of the design but because I really dig its quote: "let not the colors of your feathers determine your heights" Inspiring... ...

Dabigond Shop
2008-02-01 15:44:00
From Bangkok, Thailand, comes this new shop called Dabigond (I wonder, what does it mean?). It only has a handful of designs that look promising and they're darn cheap too ($10!) I spotted two designs that cut it for me the "A Germ Family" and "Jump!!!". My only objection about this shop is the high shipping rates ($10 for international and $8.00 per each additional item), I guess I don't like to pay for shipping what I paid for the shirt... ...

Three New Scribtees
2008-01-31 13:30:00
First things first; Scribtee is Shirtcity's high end line based on a design contest. This week three new designs are out and, I believe, they worth a mention. Although I like them all, I personally prefer "Queen Aerosol" and "Watch Out For Your Own Desires". The later is drawn by artist Edno Pereira (aka Draco) who has been around for a while with multiple submissions and winning designs in other sites, such as Threadless, DBH, Camiseteria, laFraise etc.*Links in this post are affiliate ...

They also offer a great collection of laptop skins. Almost all shirts are printed on American Apparel and they're fairly priced ($22-23). ...

MonkeyFist
2008-01-28 11:00:00
We all know how popular the monkeys are when it comes to t-shirt designs and for a good reason. Monkeys look cool and they make a strong symbolism. And here's a new shop, MonkeyFistBrands, that's all about monkeys! Frankly, when I first received this email urging me to check out this shop I thought "not another monkey design!" but when I visited the website, I have to admit, I found some pretty damn good designs. Unfortunately, they only have few designs and only one t-shirt (the rest are long sleeves) but I hope we'll see some more. The shirts are limited edition and once they're sold out they're gone.----------------Now playing: Mano Negra - King of Bongo ...

Ultrapassado...
2008-01-27 14:01:00
As the wind blows out of my window here in South California and the constant rain keeps me inside the house this melancholic Sunday morning*, I can't but blog this nostalgic design from Camiseteria: Ultrapassado...*I understand, of course, that by writing these, I had the irony coming but, hey, it's not supposed to rain in LA for a week in a row! Depression is on its way.... ...

How 2 T-shirts
2008-01-24 21:33:00
I totally love the idea of these shirts! The concept is to just give instructions on how to do several things, such as to cure a hangover or defy gravity. Some of these shirts are not only hilarious but pretty original artistically. You'll find the actual instructions printed on the inside of the shirt.HOW 2: Cure A HangoverCATEGORY: LifestyleDIFFICULTY: Very hardWHAT YOU WILL NEED: water, a banana milkshake, sleep and probably the entire day to recoverSTEPS:1. All that alcohol has dehydrated your body and your brain. You need to re-hydrate by drinking as much water as you can handle. 2. Make a banana milkshake as they are proven to sooth your stomach, raise your blood sugar level and sooth and re-hydrate your system.3. Contrary to the belief that a fry...

Fiftyseven-Thirtythree Clothes
2008-01-16 17:13:00
I know this shop for a while now and I've been whiling to write about it but I didn't have the chance so far. 57thirtythree is based in Oakland and sells through Etsy. Although there's not a huge selection of designs, their clothes are quite interesting. I actually find these designs very dynamic, powerful, and of deep insight. According to their profile they "use images of people who were originals or broke through some pre-existing barrier or stereotype". They also print and spray with only solvent-free, water based paints and inks which are environmentally friendly. Yes, you'll probably find some of their t-shirts quite expensive but take under consideration that these pieces are one of a kind.Read a review of 57thirtythree by Karl at tcritic here. ...

New Black Sea Designs
2008-01-15 11:13:00
Three crazy new designs are out by Black Sea! This time is all about worms, skulls, and oversized lips (I told you they were crazy...). Hahaha... I always enjoy their designs and those oversized lips look so cool! If you like the v-neck tees, you'll be happy to know that one of the new designs is printed on one. Also, it looks like they reprint the classic "Live Posi Die Happy" on a black t-shirt. And before I close this blog let me just say this: dammit these guys over Black Sea must be having so much fan on their photo shootings! ...

Welcome Torso
2008-01-14 17:05:00
One of the most pleasant surprises when I started cleaning up my inbox yesterday was a message from Matt Palmer informing me about his new t-shirt shop. So Torso is my first shop review for 2008. The folks behind Torso are artists with a rich background in t-shirt designing. You can find some of Matt Palmer's popular designs at Threadless, Vintage Vantage, Noisebot etc. So one thing is for sure, your design quality is guaranteed. The team tries to give as much creative freedom to the artists as possible offering up to 8 colors prints and special inks. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more designs from Torso (right now there are only three available).Use coupon code "thoracicpark" when ordering to get 15% off. ...

Make Your Own Tasty Tee!
2008-01-13 23:38:00
One of the reasons I like Tasty Tees is because they are not afraid of trying new ideas and experimenting/having fan with their business plan. First they did this Radiohead t-shirt that you could name the price you wanted to pay for it. Now they strike a again with "Make Your Own Tasty Tee" offers, where you mail them one t-shirt, select one of the seven designs available and they will print it and mail it back to you for seven bucks. I don't know if the 7-dollar offer will compensate you for going into the trouble of sending a t-shirt yourself but it sure is an interesting way of shirt-making and a fun one. Not to mention that the 2007 designs are kick ass and will never be printed again!Offer expires January 31st. ...

Back to 2008!
2008-01-13 23:07:00
Oh well, I just survived a crazy 3-week holiday period having 5 to 7 mad Greeks in a van driving them around California. And boy, they were loud! So I can say it's a little hard to get back to work and to real life. I kind of feel empty... Like I've been driving really fast and I had to brake hard! It makes me wondering if all these really happened.... So anyway, I'm going to start posting again, but I will ask for all the people that I promised to write about their shop to be patient or even write me again to remind me. Right now I have some hundreds messages in my inbox and it will take a while to go through all of them. So happy 2008 everyone! ;-) ...

DBH on Sale!?
2007-12-22 17:08:00
Ok, I know I said I'll be absent for the next couple of weeks but how can I miss out posting about this huge sale event? DBH will be having a great sale giving a generous 35% off your order! The sale will start on Dec 26 and will last until Midnight Dec 31st. The precious code to use is "DBHFAM". This is quite exciting (at least for me) since I don't recall any previous sales from DBH and I have quite a few t-shirts in my cart already... ...

Posting Announcement
2007-12-21 12:07:00
Posting has been a little slow lately as you might have noticed. I'll take some time off for the Holidays and my family arrives in a couple of days so I'm probably going to stop writing for the next couple of weeks. I'd like to wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and a very promising new year! Cheers everybody! ...

Two Days Left for Threadless Holiday Sale
2007-12-17 21:27:00
This has been a fascinating sale event over Threadless and a great opportunity to stock up with some cool shirts! But like all good things in this world, it's coming to an end in two days (Dec 16th), so if you haven't purchased anything yet that's your last chance for this year... Update: The sale is now extended until Wednesday Dec 19! Yay! ...
