Chateau Andriet

2003Bordeaux SuperieurFrance75% Merlot / 25% Cabernet FrancWill drink again.I really enjoyed this full-bodied wine, though I don't remember much about it as it's been a week since I had it! I know it had a distinct flavor and I liked it on its own as well as with food. It was slightly earthy, but more herb-like (thyme especially). At the age of 13, I don't believe I had quite the maturity level, nor vocabulary, as my first born child does at the same age. I am in awe of her abilities and wisdom. We struggle, she and I, but I love her so VERY much. The world is totally her oyster and I wish I had the power in myself at that age that she has. This is hers:"ROSE"Bud opening its eyes for the very first timeCrimson petals soft as silk,A beauty so rare.Roots stretching their legsGrowing and spread...

Torre di Monte Pinot Grigio
2008-05-08 08:35:00
Torre di Monte2006UmbriaItalyWill drink again.I had a glass of this at a restaurant recently and it was very good. It had a very distinctive taste for a Pinot Grigio. I want to say it tasted like cedar to me (though I've never tasted cedar). Very interesting. I had it with Ravioli and scallops and it accompanied both very well. The flavors of the food were enhanced following a sip of the wine.I don't know if it's readily available. I couldn't find anyone selling it but I didn't look that hard. What I did find puts it at $10 / bottle. Great for the price.8.0 out of 10$10 / 750 ml. bottle...

High Note Malbec
2008-04-29 21:11:00
2007MalbecMendoza, ArgentinaThank you so much to The Bro (who thinks that is such a DORKY name! I know only too well, "Bro", as The Gal was hard for me to swallow too - The Guy is the only one who can wear the cool black shades) and to Marc for your posts. I know The Bro has been telling me about the Don David Malbec for a couple of weeks so I am on a quest to find it and review it. I was really happy to read Marc's opinion of the Monte Antico and glad he found it just as good a deal as myself. And thank you, Marc, for stating your enjoyment of my little blog here. I really appreciate feedback. :)This was a fairly smooth, blackberry-flavored, decent wine. It was a beautiful dark velvet purple color when poured and smelled richly of blackberry and earth. It had a fairly long finish that wa...

Monte Antico Sangiovese Blend
2008-04-27 15:08:00
200485% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon,5% MerlotTuscany, ItalyI will drink again.I really enjoyed this wine for the price. It was awesome with a fresh garlic, black olive, ricotta, chicken and spinach pizza. I did not enjoy it as much on it's own - so I recommend it with food (pasta, cheese, or pizza). With flavors of oak and slight vanilla, this full-bodied wine tasted also of cherries. There was a slight finish, but it dissipated too quickly.I have had a couple of decent Sangiovese wines now. I am looking forward to trying many more different Italian wines.Am I still breathing;Does my heart still beat?I feel I'm suffocatingWhile everyone watchesAh! Drouin-Marmet Reserve Champagne
2008-04-26 07:58:00
Drouin-Marmet ReserveChampagneFrance (Mais Oui!)Would drink again.I'm not really a champagne fan except for in a breakfast Mimosa. But this was rather light and had no sweetness. Although there wasn't a whole lot of flavor, I enjoyed it very much as an accompaniment t0 strawberries and chocolate. And I didn't get a headache. :)Remember gentlemen, it's not just France we are fighting for, it's Champagne!~ Winston Churchill, WWII drink Champagne when I win, to celebrate…and I drink Champagne when I lose, to console myself. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte7.75 out of 1012% alc. by vol.(No further info could be found as far as price, etc.)...

Night Harvest Merlot
2008-04-22 22:09:00
2005Woodbridge, CaliforniaRH PhillipsWill drink again.I have passed this label by many a time. The Guy brought it home tonight and I wasn't going to have any but it smelled so good from across the room that I had to have a sip. That led to a glass. Then one more. Not bad at all for the price. Rasberry and lots of oak with a hint of earth. It even tasted pretty good with a Cesear Salad and Newman's Cesear Dressing. When my bed get empy, make me feel awful mean and blue My springs are gettin' rusty sleepin' single like I do Besssie Smith, 1928, Empty Bed Blues8.0 out of 10 $15 / 1.5 L (the BIGGER bottle)13.5 alc.by vol.http://www.nightharvestwines.com/...

Marques De La Villa
2008-04-20 20:38:00
2005 ToroRed WineSpainMight drink again.I recommend drinking this wine alone. Although it did accompany lasagna well, I enjoyed it a bit more prior to eating. After salad it was "yuck". This is a dry red with a hint of rasberry and heat in the scent. It had an earthy "hot rock" initial taste that I liked very much. That flavor was enhanced for a bit with the lasagna, but then it totally disappeared forever following salad. My religion makes no senseand does not help metherefore I pursue it.When we seehow simple it would have beenwe will thrash ourselves.I had a visionof all the people in the worldwho are searching for Godmassed in a roomon one sideof a partitionthat looksfrom the other side(God's side)transparentbut we are blind. Our gestures are blind. Our blind gestures continuefor some ti...

Zonte's Footstep
2008-04-19 22:09:00
2006Shiraz ViognerLanghorne Creek, AustraliaMight drink again. The Shiraz-Viogner combo is something I've thoroughly enjoyed in the past. Tonight's was slightly disappointing.Berry scent with spice, not a lot of flavor on its own. Sort of a weak finish, except when served with food. I served it with grilled chicken and zucchini and roasted peppers and mushrooms and onions. The flavor accompanied the food very well. Somewhat weak on its own, it definitely tasted better with the food. Both my stepfather-in-law and my step-father enjoyed it, especially with their dinner. They called me to theirs,Who controlled me;Yet every oneWished to stay, and is gone,How am I theirsIf they cannot hold meBut I hold them?-Ralph Waldo Emerson / Earth-Song7.5 out of 10$14/750 ml.bottle14.5% alc. by vol.www.zonte...

Redtree Petite Sirah
2008-04-18 20:25:00
2005 Sonoma CountyCali-for-NYE-AYEThis medium-bodied red was dirt cheap. But I felt it tasted more expensive than it's price tag. With a heated granite and cherry scent, this wine was superb with takeout Roast Pork Lo Mein (it brought out the garlic) and my cold sesame noodles (it brought out the spice and sesame flavor) and, especially, with dark chocolate Devil's Food cake (but not the frosting!). It was nicely balanced. The finish was lighter than I like normally, but enjoyable, with slight pepper. Following just the cake part of the cake, it took on a perfume-like flowery flavor that I liked (because it was different). Interestingly enough, when the home-made chocolate frosting and fresh strawberries were added to the cake, the wine's flavor was completely drowned out. There was NO t...

2005Lindsey's CuveeCaliforniaWill definitely buy again.I have to admit, it was the artwork on the label that made me stop and pick up the bottle for a closer look. This wine was very good. On the drier side, but flavor packed of cherries, heat, slight spice, vanilla and herb. Nice combination. I will be purchasing more to have on hand as a stand alone wine.Looking for the path, each day and every night.Throw open your doors Truth, let me bask in the light.8.25 out of 10$17 / 750 ml. bottle...

Rutherglen Tokay
2008-04-10 21:44:00
CampbellsNon-vintageTonight's blog entry was contributed by PasaRoblesCab (Thank You :).The non-vintage Tokay, a light amber color in a 375ml bottle was the perfect end to a wonderful dinner. To add to the flavor of roasted nuts, white raisins, prunes, figs, caramel, and marmalade, its full-bodied sweetness is balanced well by acidity. Sweet, spicy, generous range of flavors, offerings with hints of apricot, pear and vanilla notes. I loved the slightly musky scents, it reminded me of the maple syrup lollipops my grandmother would make. Of course they were in the shape of a maple leaf. (We are Canadian French.) This with a 1 lb. bar of Hershey's special Dark or Wine Lovers 61% Cocoa Dark was a definite match. (My pallet was opened with Sophenia Cabernet which was enjoyed with freshly grille...

Castello di Meleto Chianti
2008-04-08 15:37:00
2006"True Tuscan"Tuscany, ItalyWould drink again if I could find it! I had a glass of this wine last week at a wonderful little Greek-owned Italian restuarant. The food was awesome and I really enjoyed this wine. I am not usually fond of Chiantis (with the exception being Nipozzano Riserva Chianti I reviewed here on October 12, 2007 - first Chianti I've ever liked - see the archives on the left). But this is my second favorite Chianti behind the Nipozzano.Although it was quite dry (which I don't normally like), the flavor was very good and it complimented garlic knots and baked ziti nicely. A deep dark garnet in color, it had black cherry aromas. The taste was warm, spicey cherry with slight vanilla and earth. It had a slightly long, warm finish.Window rolled downfeeling the sunTrying not ...

Greg Norman Pinot Noir
2008-04-04 22:06:00
2006Santa Barbara CountyCaliforniaWould drink again.Another celebrity line of wines. This Pinot Noir was actually pretty good. I am not a huge fan of Pinots, but I found this enjoyable on its own and with dinner - turkey and sweet potato. Mostly cherry in flavor, there was a hint of an earthy thyme that I took to. The finish was sadly short. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in grey,And the sun will set for you.-Linkin' Park, Shadow of the Day 8.0 out of 10$17.99 / 750 ml bottle13.5% alc. by vol.www.shark.com...

Windsor Chardonnay
2008-04-03 22:24:00
2005Sonoma CountyCaliforniaThis was another wine we taste-tested out of four from Windsor Vineyards. I actually thought that I really liked this Chardonnay. It was medium bodied with a slight velvety feel. It also had a hint of mineral notes on the finish - which of course I am always in quest of. It was slightly buttery, with a little vanilla and oak. However, the more I drank it, the less I liked it. So it makes it hard for me to rate. If I had one glass only, I would be rating it 8.5. By the time I had almost three (and no more), the finish was tasting a bit "cheap" - a little metallic-like, yet the mineral tones were still there, keeping my interest nevertheless. You make me feel like I wanna be a dumb blonde . . ."-Paula Cole, Feelin' Love8.0 out o...

Windsor Sauvignon Blanc
2008-03-30 18:09:00
2006Mendocino CountyKenwood, CaliforniaWould drink again. This Sauvignon Blanc was the second bottle from Windsor Vineyards that The Guy and I tried this weekend (out of four). It's scent was a bit tropical with pineapple being the main focus. It was a light straw color and the taste was pineapple with slight lemon and a hint of oak. The finish was fairly smooth with a slight Sauvignon Blanc zip.I had this with a lemon yogurt pasta dish and stir-fried chicken. Just like I find Merlot is a great accompaniment to garlic-enhanced dishes, I find Sauvignon Blanc is excellent with lemon-flavored dishes. You can't just say "I Love You",You've got to live "I Love You".-Ben Harper8.0 out of 1013.0% alc. by volApprox. $15 / 750 ml bottlewww.windsorvineyards.com...

Windsor Vineyards Merlot
2008-03-29 08:29:00
2005MerlotSonoma County, CaliforniaWould definitely drink again, and again, and again.I have to say I love this Merlot. I knew I was going to like it by its scent alone - it was an earthiness - but not a "damp" earthiness or musty earthiness like I get from some French reds. It was more of a woodsey-earth with a hint of smoke. Although it immediately reminded me of a higher-end Barossa red, it's very distinct at the same time - I feel like I could pick it out in a blind taste-test.Overall tasting notes: woodsey, earthy, smoked. slight vanilla and a bit "slick " (oil-mineralness) on the finish. The finish isn't very long, but it's not too quick either. Though it's higher alcohol than I prefer, it doesn't taste it. So it's dangerous. It sneaks up on you. I have always found that Merlot acc...

Twenty Bench
2008-03-25 20:43:00
2005Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley, CAAnother entry from our friend "PasaRoblesCab" to whom "The Guy" and I are indebted as we are only reviewing wines on weekend evenings. As this is a Tuesday, we've got nothing new to review. But "PasaRoblesCab" had "Twenty Bench" this evening and filed the following report and accompanying photos:This is a full bodied wine with deep rich cherries on the nose, and flavors of coffee and ripe blueberries. Distinctive character, with rich palate coating textures and lots of layers and depth. It has a long pronounced finish with full tannins and fruit, balanced with good acidity. Dark ruby color and surprisingly full for a wine of this price, about $18.50. This is what makes a young Napa Cab worth drinking. With A HINT...

2004Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley, CA(Stag's Leap District)First: Thank you to "Morgan" for the post giving me a head's up on the "Red Truck" changeover. I will be interested to see what comes of it. I am a fan in general of "Cline" wines - especially the ancient vine zin. Blend: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet FrancWould definitely drink again - though not in the budget. This was a gift from my boss so it wasn't in my usual price range. He gave it to me in December and I saved it for a special occasion. I decided to share it with my mom and stepdad and grandmother over Easter dinner. My mother made my grandmother's Yankee Pot Roast and it seemed as good a time as any.I loved the scent right away - it had an oak and earth scent that drew me in. The flavor wa...

Primitivo - Layer Cake
2008-03-19 22:54:00
2006ItalyWill drink again. We previously reviewed the Layer Cake Shiraz. The Primitivo (Zinfandel) was equally as good. Dark, inky purple in color, this wine is bottled in Italy. A lot of black cherry and a bit of licorice and spice, the finish was not as flavorful as the initial taste and mouthfeel, but it was still an enjoyable wine.Song of the Day:Nothing's too good for a veteran yeah, this is what they say So nothing is what they'll get in this new American way The lies that were told to get us to go were criminal, let us be straight Let's get to the point where our voices are heard behind the White House gate With his mind he's saying...no more With his heart he's saying...no more With his life he's saying...no more war With his eyes he's saying...no mor...

Woop Woop
2008-03-16 18:08:00
2006ShirazMcLaren Vale, South Eastern Australia ***PARTICIPATE IN THE NEW POLL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PAGE*** Will definitely drink again for the price - good value.I'd sort of been avoiding this wine for many months because I don't know why. I think I thought the name was too silly nilly for the wine to be any good. I picked it up and really looked at it and saw it was from McLaren Vale and I took it more seriously and bought it. Another little positive: Woop Woop Winery is a supporter of Trees For Life. (http://www.treesforlife.org/)Full-bodied, blackberry and licorice flavors, deep plum color and a decent finish make this wine a pretty good value. Good on its own and good with fresh parmesean and apricots and later, pizza. The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you c...

Contrastes
2008-03-15 21:16:00
2003Red LanguedocSaint-ChinianFranceWould drink again. Not bad, just not as full as I had hoped. It's bouquet was inviting and I thought it would be very good. It reminded me (in scent) of a Barossa Shiraz. But it was much lighter in taste than I had hoped. The flavor was good. It was earth and olives for me. It took on a spicey finish following a bite of pepperoni bread. Overall, enjoyable though not as I had anticipated following the scent.I have made a new friend from France. I am excited as he has friends with vineyards and he knows I am partial to Merlot. He is going to gather some info for me and recommend a wine or two from a region whose wine is comprised mostly of Merlot grapes. So stay tuned. No thoughts, no poems, just a good day with two of my girls resulting in another "song of ...

Red Truck
2008-03-13 21:29:00
2005Sonoma, CaliforniaSyrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Mourvedre BlendWill probably drink again. So, my co-worker "Deb" (who doesn't drink), gave me an article she'd printed out of her Sunday paper about a woman who reviews wines for a living. She did a brief article on the best "grocery store" variety wines for your buck. Deb said to me, "You should review the reviewer." I thought it was a pretty good idea, brought it home to The Guy, and he agreed. Only thing is I then lost the article (but I'm sure it will turn up again soon). Anyway, this was one of the wines she reviewed. Two of her other wines we actually did previously review here but I have to find the article to remember which ones (one was the Banrock Station Chardonnay I believe).I honestly wasn't looking forward to trying...

Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon
2008-03-11 22:44:00
2005Paso RoblesCaliforniaWould drink again.I thought I'd reviewed this in the past, but apparently not. The Guy and I had a glass of Liberty School Cab ages ago on Martha's Vineyard and it was SO good. I haven't had that good an experience with the cab since. This is good. It's pleasant. It's drinkable. It's just missing a slight edge. Nice, safe berry flavor mingled with vanilla.I recommend drinking it with beef or grilled foods. It's also good enough to drink on its own.Hopefully this is the last of the "Cut and Paste" as I'm very happy to report that my broken camera has been repaired and is once again in my hands. I've missed taking photos of the wines we drink. I'm looking forward to getting "back in business" as I'v...

Solaris Cabernet Sauvignon
2008-03-09 15:44:00
2005CaliforniaProbably will not be drinking again. As I sit here drinking Kahlua and Hot Chocolate following a day out in the cold gathering fire wood with my chillen', I am thinking of this disappointing wine to blog about. I only find it motivating to blog following a good wine experience. But, you need to know the bad with the good if you're considering buying anything reviewed here. So, I shall plod on - though I think I already gave you what you need to know. Was it really bad? No, just not interesting. And there are so many better wines in the same price range available. However, different people do have different taste buds so you may like it yourself. I just wouldn't pay for a whole bottle - try it at a friend's or by the glass at a restaurant. It actually did take on some interesti...

Dynamite Chardonnay
2008-03-06 22:15:00
2004Mendocino CountySonoma, CaliforniaWill drink again. This wine was pretty good on its own, but it was really good with shrimp, ricotta, garlic and basil pizza. It's scent was of pineapple and oak. The flavor was definitely pineapple, apple and vanilla. It wasn't as rich and buttery as I would have liked, but I did pick up ever so slight mineral notes when having a sip after a bite of pizza. Overall, it was worth it's price.Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.-Ernest Hemingway, "Death in the Afternoon" 8.0 out of 1013.6% alc. by vol.$13.99 / 750 ml. bottlehttp://www.

Cline Zinfandel
2008-03-01 15:26:00
2006Sonoma, CaliforniaFirst of all, I'd like to thank PasaRoblesCab for his contributions the last couple of nights. And I'd like to add to his comments on realizing that not everybody knows what it's like to taste fresh currants from a garden and how the $100 wine tasted just as good as the $30 wine, etc. It's true that not everyone is afforded such opportunity. I've always wondered what a fresh currant tasted like - I hear it so often described in wine tasting. Yet, I loved hearing PasaRoblesCab's endearing memory with his grandmother's garden and how one night of wine tasting brought him back all those years. I do love to hear and learn about others' interpretations and experiences with wine. There is no right or wrong. We all have different tastes and likes and dislikes. What one person...

BV Georges de LaTour Private Reserve Cabernet
2008-02-29 22:24:00
2002Beaulieu VineyardsNapa Valley, CaliforniaAnother exceptional wine review from our friend PasaRoblesCab (be sure to read the bolded text at the end):Red and black fruit on the nose with some vanilla, and cedar. Beautiful open nose, with some plum. This is definitely one of the top three wines that I have ever had. It is next to the 1998 Mouton-Rothschild.An incredibly powerful wine that has possibly the greatest mouth feel I've ever tasted; it's like velvet, heavy but smooth. You can see the legs in the pic. Silky tannins balanced with perfect acidity. The mouth has cocoa, slight leather and some plum with a finish that lasts for longer than a minute. It was hard to let this sit and breathe, I wanted to keep drinking. Reminded me of the 2002 Stags Leap which was another gift and way out ...

Donati Cabernet Sauvignon
2008-02-28 21:04:00
200396% Cabernet Sauvignon / 4% Cabernet Franc California1,825 Cases Produced This is not my post or "The Guy's", it comes from our friend "PasaRoblesCab" with my gratitude in absence of anything from myself or "The Guy".When poured it has a nice garnet shade and good long legs in the glass. Medium-bodied mouthfeel. It starts out much milder than I expected. It's mostly dark fruits, cherries and plums. Definitely not a fruit bomb. Medium fruits, medium body, moderate tannins Good dark fruit flavors (mostly cherry) and a tab bit of of licorice. The color is rich and dark. You may want to let this wine breathe a little before drinking. Maybe let it decant for a while, The moderate tannins and full mouthfeel do a good job standing up against the alcohol. This 2003 Cabernet reminded me of another...

Rioja Vega
2008-02-23 19:10:00
2001ReserveViana, Spain50% Tempranillo25% Mazuelo25% GracianoWill definitely drink again. This was a dark cherry color with an ever so slight cloudiness to it. The scent was black cherry and granite. Upon tasting, I was hit initially with dryness, thinness (which did have me worried) then a quick changeover (that kept me interested) to licorice and a hint of smoke. The finish saved it completely. It was a very nice finish with high-end Barossa-like flavor (I can't exactly explain that flavor and finish if you haven't experienced it - it's a distinct experience - suffice it to say it is worth it). The Guy is away, though he will return tomorrow night, and I am trying hard to save some for him to try.My recommendation is to drink this without food. It loses it's flavor with food, and the "thi...

Santa Rita Reserva
2008-02-20 18:35:00
2005MerlotDO Maipo Valley, ChileWill drink again - good value.A deep garnet color, this wine has an intense smoky creosote scent - once again, I pick up that very particular smokiness that I immediately associate with the wines of Chile. First mouthful prior to swallowing was an immediate pleasant sweetness. Then I was hit with the smoky-cresosote flavor I've experienced before, but this was immediately followed by a Eucalyptus mint combo that I've often heard described but had yet to experience. It was pretty cool. There was a slight numbing in the back of my throat with the Eucalyptus flavor, then a simple but definite finish. This was very, very good. And, quite honestly, it was nice to NOT have the typical "berry" description I am so tired of giving and tasting. I'm still a little perp...

Two Hands Bella's Garden
2008-02-19 19:30:00
2005ShirazBarossa Valley (OMG - an absolute "Hands Down" favorite - Big surprise coming from the Barossa Valley [facetious statement - let me lay down forever in the Barossa Valley]), dead even with the likes of Dead Arm and probably Two Hands Gnarly Dudes - though Gnarly Dudes was MUCH cheaper)AustraliaThis wine was excellent. The Guy said, and I quote: "This is good with pickles, this is good with ketchup, this is good with anything." He insisted we have this tonight - no special occasion, no decent menu (turkey burgers and salad) - as if The Guy's statement didn't give that one away. I really wasn't ready to open it. Certainly not with tonight's dinner, or on a Tuesday night of all nights - but it held up nicely regardless. Though I'm feeling a little like Christmas is over. Nothing to ...

Vitiano Cabernet Merlot-Sangiovese
2008-02-18 07:14:00
2005FalescoUmbria, ItaliaProbably won't intentionally drink again.I have to be careful here to not hurt The Guy's feelings. He brought this home proudly. He even saved it for a few days until I made lasagna. He was disappointed when he tasted it and, I have to admit, the bouquet gave the impression it was going to be very good. The taste started off with immediate blackberry flavor and slight pepper, then it totally petered out into a thin, dry, metallic taste. Disappointing. I was making dinner when we tried it, so we didn't have it with food. The Guy decided it needed some cheddar crackers and cheese. Once he tasted it again following his "appetizer" he said it was "much better". So I did the same only I didn't find it to be much better. However, it was better with the lasagna and a garl...

Four Vines Zinfandel
2008-02-15 19:00:00
2005Old Vine CuveePaso Robles, California Highly recommend. Good value - will drink again.Ok. Last night's wine was over the top expensive. So tonight, I'm back to the budget material. I thought this was a great wine for the price. This was a nice blend of blackberry, oak, and a nice woodsey-spice finish. The Guy and I had Four Vines The Biker back in May of last year. It was very good, but much more pricey. (Incidentally, I hope to try Four Vines' line of Freakshow wines in the near future - I'm guessing they're pretty fab.) Although this is a different flavor than The Biker, I liked it quite a bit. The Guy purchased it and asked me to guess how much I thought he spent. I guessed $18.99 and was way off - too high. I couldn't believe it.I enjoyed this very much on its own. I made chili and ...

Kistler Chardonnay
2008-02-14 20:20:00
2005Dutton RanchRussian River ValleyNo. 18222This was an excellent wine, but very expensive (if you are on a budget). This was another gem from Uncle Bob so I personally did not fork out any cash for it.I was immediately struck with the smooth butteriness and, my personal favorite, minerality throughout and in the lingering finish. It was slightly lemonlike in flavor but with more butter and oil. I served this with "Pasta a la Passion" (Bow tie pasta with olive oil, garlic, sundried tomatoes, chicken, broccoli, basil and parmesean cheese), and the "Fish Man's" delicioso crab cakes. Excellent accompaniment to both.I think I like the Russian River Valley for Chardonnays about as much as I like the Barossa Valley for Shiraz. As this song hit home for me th...

Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon
2008-02-12 22:16:00
2005Alexander ValleyCaliforniaWill drink again - and will try the Merlot as well.My cousin is married. The wedding was the first Jewish wedding I've ever attended. The best part? The bride and groom share wine during the ceremony with each other and then with their parents. Had I only known this when I was planning my wedding - I might have converted. But seriously, it was absolutely beautiful - the Rabbi was wonderful. The words spoken and meaning given behind the significance of each phase was just beautiful. As the bride lost her dad suddenly last year, his not being there was felt by all, especially she and her mom and sister. Her mom walked her down the aisle and handed her to my cousin. They then stood with the Rabbi under the Chuppah (a marriage canopy that symbolises the bride and ...

2006Ripon, CaliforniaWill probably drink again. As an aside for a moment, I am having the Cab tonight with chili (and the Cab is in the Chili and the two together are fantastic). I will be posting my organic, vegetarian recipe on http://www.cheznathalie.com/ if interested.OK. I know, this is not a shoe blog. I am just so excited about my new shoes for my cousin's wedding next week. I mean, look at them. Black satin, pointed toes, V-straps connected to Diamond O-rings (o.k. so MAYBE there's a chance they are zirconia O-rings - whatever). And my matching "O" necklace. How many women can actually say that their necklace matches their shoes? (Yes, my shoes are on the dinner table, however, they are brand new, fresh out of the box and never worn.) By the way, doesn't my necklace make my wine bot...

2004ToscanaItaly85% Sangiovese10% Cabernet Sauvignon5% MerlotWill drink again.A funny thing happened when I was looking for an appetizer that would accompany McManis Cabernet for my mother's B'Day dinner last week. The Guy and I have had McManis before and really liked it (see October reviews). He brought some home again a couple of weeks ago and I was reminded of what a really good value it is. So I thought I'd serve that as our before-dinner wine at my mom's dinner. I couldn't find anything on the internet that recommended an appetizer. Then, finally, a recommended pairing comes up and I'm relieved. It recommended Horseradish Cheddar with wheat crackers. I'm reading it and then I happened to notice the site - it was this one! So I took my own advice and we simply had cheddar and crackers...

2004Clos Du Chene VertFranceWould drink again.Another wine sent home with me from my uncle. The color when poured was a bejeweled ruby. I loved the scent of this wine and couldn't wait to taste it. I smelled Brie and strawberry and smoke. Although the taste was less berry than I would have liked, I did taste a slight Brie-ness and smoke. But it was a little on the drier side than I normally like, and, not enough big flavor for my total enjoyment. It was more light to medium body, leaning more on the light side. It did accompany Dill Havarti and wheat crackers nicely though. In my humble amateur opinion, the tannins need softening on this one. A bit tart and would probably do well to stay in the cellar a couple more years.Go, little book, and wish to all Flowers in the garden, meat in the h...

Posting 4 of 4 Related: 2002Ice WineVidal Grapes (100%)Niagra Falls CanadaBefore I review this wine, I'd like to just give an update on the pairing of the Holy Trinity, 2000 with the Moroccan Chicken recipe posted on http://www.cheznathalie.com/ (go to "Topics" and the "Food / Drink" section). The two were most excellent together. The original recipe actually calls for the pairing to be with the 2001 Holy Trinity. But I believe this was probably close enough. The chicken is served with Greek yogurt mixed with chopped fresh mint leaves which especially taste interesting with the wine.I got off track there a bit and never completed my wine experiences with Uncle Bob a week and a half ago. After the Arrowood Chardonnay (Posting 1 of 4 Related reviewed below) we had the Pride Merlot and the Po...
