Kayla's Slow Cooker Jambalaya Recipe-- A Meal With Southern Charm That Cooks Itself
2009-07-30 20:08:18
Kayla from Georgia was gracious enough to submit a recipe for me to cook. As the initial recipes rolled in, I'm pleased to announce that Kayla from Georgia, being the first recipe to arrive, just got her Slow Cooker Jambalaya recipe cooked. This is brought to you courtesy of your friends here at Off The Menu. How did this Jambalaya recipe from Georgia turn out? I have to say, for the first recipe that I received, that it went above and beyond my expectations. I've been to Georgia a couple times over the years, and Kayla's Jambalaya had that down home southern taste that I've always enjoyed in my visits there. I'm very grateful for your response Kayla as I'm working hard to bring my reader's recipes to life. Now as way of saying thank you for your time in submitting the recipe, please enjoy...

Fly Away To Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville
2009-07-26 01:29:16
What's the best theme restaurant on earth to fly away to if you had a private plane? If you answered Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville in Panama City Florida, I’d play a Jimmy Buffett song for you and pass you another Margarita. There is no need for me to do that because there is plenty of Jimmy Buffett songs and drinks to go around at the Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville in Panama City Florida. Like, I mentioned in a previous a post, you cannot pass up the opportunity to be a part of a one of a kind experience as far as theme restaurants go. Forget that, I’d venture to say that when I was a recent Parrothead there (note: the noun that being a Jimmy Buffett fan will turn you into… Parrothead) I was completely blown away because I’ve never quite had a dining experience as fun as that one! It’s hard to explain the atmosphere of a place that pulls you in from the moment you step in the door and stays with you hours and months after you go there especially if you go for the first t...

Submit Me A Recipe To Cook And Post!
2009-07-25 21:44:21
I'm going out on a food limb with this blog and trying something radically different. This blog will continue to feature all kinds of "Food For Thought" items as already posted but I want this idea I'm about to purpose to be one of the key features. The idea as you might of guessed is for you "my readers" to submit recipes for me to cook at home and I will cook them up for you and post them. The way you would do this is to either leave me a comment on a post or email me at: luckyhabit@gmail.com with your recipe. The recipe doesn't even have to be anything fancy, you can just submit something to me as simple as saying for example, "I want you to cook me apple pie or lasagna". Or you could say for example, "I want you to cook me this and here is the recipe". It's entirely up to you. I will...

Chip's Old Fashioned Hamburger Has It Right
2009-07-14 20:32:07
Some eateries just know how to do food right. When it comes to American food, Chip's Old Fashioned Hamburger in Dallas has it right and then some. On first look, you might pass up the old building that sits on a old street called Lover's Lane in Dallas. Mainly because its overshadowed by the Dallas Tollway's looming overpass. To do this, if your in the mood for American food in the way of hamburgers, french fries and the best shoe-string onion rings this Texas boy has had in a long time, would almost be a crime. Of course, if you know where to look and did your homework, (I'll help with that) you'd know that Chip's has been a Dallas favorite since 1981. That's how I found my way to Chip's for the first time, on one very hot summer afternoon in late June.To be totally honest, I was not conv...

The Life Of Key West Chickens
2009-07-12 09:56:39
On a recent trip to Key West, this fugitive chicken was spotted at a gas station. No, I'm not talking about the man in the photo; he is not a chicken (at least not that I know of). I'm talking about the ACTUAL chicken in the photo. As you can see from the picture (above) taken at a local restaurant, on an outside patio table there is a sticker that pretty much sums it up. In Key West life is a little different; they let the chickens roam free to do pretty much what they want so they aren't really fugitives at all but free loving chickens! I guess you could say it's a part of the laid back lifestyle of Key West Then… what do you know, under the table across from this (above)...what is under the table... it's really ironic because it's a family of chickens! For some reason, I don't think they like their pictures taken though! I have evidence of this, and you can see for yourself from this series of pictures I took... As you can see... further evidence....the chicken...

GOOD Seafood Is The Keyword Here
2009-07-12 09:52:17
Don't fault me for this, this is yet another seafood review. I can't help it, I just can't get enough good seafood. This one happens to be one of my favorites that I grew up eating as a kid in Houston. No wonder I like seafood so much, I was born and raised eating some of the best which can be found in Houston since it's only 45 short minutes from the Texas Gulf Coast. That makes it very fresh therefore inheritably good. That brings me to another point, if good is the keyword here and the place that I'm reviewing is called Goode Co Seafood then when they named this place they knew that's just what their seafood would be...GOOD or however you wanna spell it.Like, a crazy food fanatic, I again went for the fried seafood platter which for it is aptly named on the menu. I just think, if your go...

A Tremondous Amount Of Satisfaction
2009-07-12 09:51:37
In this restaurant review we're going to step away from the seafood and focus on something a little bit more flavorful! After eating seafood platter after giant seafood platter on my recent road trip to Key West who can blame me? Yes, even the worst seafood junkie needs to take a break after awhile. If anything, I did just that and more by trying Cuban food for the first time in my life and wow I picked a one of a kind place to break into this new food category! This establishment was only found after doing extensive research of what Key West has to offer in the way of Cuban food. I know they have plenty of nice Cuban eateries on the island so this wasn't an easy task in the least. Like I said, I did my homework and it paid a delicious ten fold because I ended up at this cool little spot ca...

KING Of The House
2009-07-12 09:50:29
At Ernest Hemingway's house in Key West they have over 30 of his cat's descendants roaming around the grounds. If you like cats like I do, I'd make a point to go visit even if it's just to see the cats! The reason I'm even posting this picture is not because I'm into Ernest Hemingway but because cats are cool! Case in point the above picture... I took this shot in Ernest Hemingway's bedroom during a tour. No I wasn't part of the tour because I wasn't interested; I was passing through when this cat jumped on the roped off bed as if to say what are you going to do about it. I love that attitude in cats! This cat obviously knew that this was his owners house therefore he was going to sit in the middle of his owners bed like he was king of the house! ...

Inspiration For Breakfast
2009-07-12 09:49:53
An omelet is so simple yet so satisfying and delicious. What makes it so great is that you don't need anything on the side for this breakfast plate because everything is already inside! Hey, I didn't mean that to rhyme I swear... it just happened! Kind of like the omelet though because I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to eat for breakfast this morning and was feeling kind of lazy about making anything. Then I was like, you know what, for some reason I'd rather make an omelet than the quicker and easier to do scrambled eggs. Don't ask me why, if I was feeling lazy about making breakfast I'd choose to do an omelet instead! Getting back to this great omelet talk... I really didn't have any intention of posting the picture of this omelet but I decided I'd do a new category of posts...

Not Your Average French Bread Pizza
2009-07-12 09:49:22
Yes, anybody can make French bread pizza. You get some sauce, slather it on the bread, throw some mozzarella cheese on there, maybe some pepperonis and then ya just put it in the oven. However, these aren't your average Italian bread pizzas, because I put some time, love, and some better than average ingredients into these. Also notice I said Italian bread pizza; this is because I opted to go for a Italian bread loaf instead of French bread...however, French bread would work with this recipe as well. The result? Anything but ordinary...because I have to say I've slapped french bread pizzas together before but none of them have tasted quite like these! I'm not exaggerating when I say that these are probably the best French bread pizzas I've ever had! Just goes to show you that if you put...
