Oats - Choco Fudge
2012-02-10 05:30:00
Chocolate fudge is an all time favourite with my family and I’ve posted a few versions here and here. Choco fudge is quite simple to make but this version is even more simpler and healthier too, as I have also added some Oats to it. This month’s Monthly Mingle had two interesting ingredients to use Ginger and Almonds. I had many thoughts in my mind but I finally got fixed on a sweet. Making sweets is rare thing at my place for obviously fatty reasons but I could not ignore the fact that the kid had been asking me to make the Choco-muesli bars once again. So, I used the concept of Muesli bars and fudge together, at the same time, did not forget the Monthly Mingle ingredients and came up with this recipe. I assure this is very tasty and at the same time extremely he...

2012-02-09 06:30:00
Hi Friends!
I have posted my 300th post and the excitement of announcing the giveaways is finally sinking in. It was a small celebration time for my ‘blog baby’. The way we take care of our blog and spend so much time feeding it with our work, I guess all bloggers would agree calling it our ‘baby’.
Like the blog needs nourishment of good work to grow and flourish our body needs healthy food. Breakfast is an important meal of the day and take it very seriously. I might skip my dinner but never the breakfast. I try to provide my family a healthy and wholesome breakfast which gives them a feeling of properly filled and not over fed. I use sprouts, Oats, daliya (broken wheat), Red Poha, Ragi and various flours to make a healthy and tasty breakfast.

300th Post - Holige.. A traditional sweet from Karnataka & Two Cookbook Giveaways
2012-02-07 08:55:00
Hi.
They say slow and steady wins the race and today as I post my 300th post I definitely find myself a winner. I’m a winner because, not only have I managed to post 300 recipes in the last 2-1/2yrs but also I’ve managed to make a small niche for myself in the big world of food blogging. I’ve recently started book reviewing and both my recent reviews- Master Chef India Cookbook & Southern Flavours have had a good readership.
The world of food is like an ocean and we the food blogger’s are like droplets that form it. There’s so much to learn and absorb that even if I try to be at my best all the times through out my life, I guess I’ll be able to fill a jar full of knowledge for myself.
In all the learning, there were up’s and downs too in this period and I had to be away from blogging but I would gather myself again and re-start. And during these ups and downs, those encouraging words from my readers and fellow bloggers, kept me going. Thanks so much for a...

Ghol Bhaaji/ Doddagonni Soppu
2012-02-06 10:15:00
Today I’m posting a very simple curry straight from Maharashtra. I had tasted this the first time when I had visited my father’s uncle in Nagpur and had completely fallen for it. Ghol is a green vegetable which resembles methi(fenugreek) leaves but are slightly thicker and has no bitterness. It has thick and succulent reddish green stems and the vegetable has a nice earthy flavour. It is called Kulfa in Hindi, Pachiri in Tamil and Purslane or Pigweed in English. source Wikipedia The only time required to make this preparation is in plucking, cleaning and chopping the leaves. The procedure for curry is very simple and resultant is simply tasty. My kid loved it and ate without any fuss. I can see the mom’s getting interested now..yes, it’s a great way to make kids eat...

Spring Onion Chutney
2012-02-01 09:22:00
Life is so unpredictable and at times I wonder, if only I could control it …nevertheless, I’ve learnt to take life as it comes. Last week was one of such unpredictable ones…We had made plans to attend a wedding in Bangalore and then head to Mysore for a weekend with the family. I was all packed to start on the 25th but on 24th we got a call that S’s uncle was serious and the hopes of his surviving were dim, we had to rush to Bangalore for a completely different reason and I’m glad we did that, as S lost his Uncle. We were there for the mourning family and S accompanied his cousin to perform the final rites. After that everyone insisted that we should go to Mysore, but I was not up to it.. was to saddened by the loss, so we returned early and stayed at home. ...

'Only' Series Event Announcement For February & Giveaway
2012-01-30 07:15:00
Hi all!
We are finishing this month with 'Only'-Sprouts and have started off the new year on a healthy note. The month of February brings in another health conscious theme at 'Only' series.
We all know that heart is an extremely important organ in our body and a healthy heart indicates a healthy body. An important cereal grain which has now become a common household name especially because of its healthful properties is surely Oats.
Oats is believed to have cholesterol reducing properties and is commonly used and eaten as Oats meal, Oats flour or as rolled Oats. Oat bran is the outer casing of the oat. Its consumption is believed to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, and possibly to reduce the risk of Heart disease.Oats are the only cereal containing a Globulin or legume-like protein, Avenalin, as the major (80%) storage protein.
With such huge health benefit that this grain shows, I thought of having an entire event on this marvelo...

Pasta in Roasted Veggie Sauce..a hit with my kid and his friends
2012-01-23 12:30:00
Hi. Making an interesting lunch box for children is an ever daunting task we all mothers have. We all know that the kids love eating junk food and snacks and will finish that easily as compared to the meals and my kid is surely and easily one of them. So it’s always challenging and interesting to innovate dishes which appear fast food but still are very healthy. There are times when the vegetables go unused and show signs of aging on the skin, especially the delicate ones like the capsicum. I’m surely not one of them who will get intimidated by such things, I always take it up as a challenge and come up with something more interesting by using them wisely. On one such occasion I roasted them to make an interesting sauce and brought them to good use and using ...

Britannia NutriChoice Multigrain thins..a Critical Product Review
2012-01-23 07:27:00
Hi. A few days back DH got a packet of Britannia Multigrain Thins to try out in his flight back home. After tasting it, he realised that this is what I would love to eat, so he got the packet back home and asked me to try it out. I asked him what it was and he explained that it’s a new product from Britannia, so the samples were given to the passengers for tasting in the flight. He explained that it’s a baked product and is made of five grains. The first three adjectives i.e Britannia product, baked and five grains were good enough to catch my attention. I put the first piece in my mouth and my first reaction was ‘yummy’, this is so good and I finished the remaining packet in a matter of few minutes without sharing with anyone, and completely true to it’s punch line ‘Snack Tha...

Sprouts Curry the Malvani Way
2012-01-21 05:30:00
Hi. We all know that the sprouts are very healthy and I make it a point that my kid eats them frequently. As we are vegetarians, sprouts provide us a good portion of proteins needed for our body and especially for children they are extremely important in helping them grow, as the proteins help in building up cells and tissues and thus are rightly called ‘the building blocks’ for our body. I try to incorporate sprouts in soups, salads and curries, in different variations so that the kid can relish it. This time I tried it making the Malvani way. Malvan is a small town in coastal Maharashtra in Sindhudurga district and is famous for the Malvani Cuisine. Malvani cuisine uses coconut liberally in various forms such as grated, dry grated, fried, coconut paste and coconut milk. The ...
