Computer Network Solutions
2008-08-02 23:40:37
What is a Computer Network?A computer network refers to an interconnected group of computers. The networks may be classified according to the network layer at which they function depending upon the basic reference models. The reference models may differ from industry to industry, just like the five-layer Internet Protocol Suite model. Computer Networks are classified on the basis of various factors like scale, connection method, network relationships and protocol.Type of Computer Networking: The common types of computer networks are: * Personal Area Network (PAN) * Local Area Network (LAN) * Campus Area Network (CAN) * Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) * Wide Area Network (WAN) * Global Area Network (GAN...

Archiving the Sap Information
2008-07-01 22:55:19
Today in this developing world, most of the enterprises are interested in using SAP R/3 as a platform for their business integration. The SAP R/3 is used in the huge amount by the business enterprises is stored. Data are updated with the old data in SAP enterprises. When data are updated, the old and unwanted data cannot be removed. To avoid problems such as data overflow, longer transaction processing times and performance degradation, SAP data archiving is introduced. It removes the unwanted and old data from the SAP database. The data/information is known as archived data and the archived data is stored in the offline location. It not only removes the data from the database, but also ensures the availability for business requirement.Features of Dat...

what is linux
2008-07-01 22:52:14
Linux – the operating system for a GNU (pronounced Gnew) generation. It has been dubbed the alternative to Microsoft, the solution to all life’s problems and many other things that may or may not be true. But what is Linux, and should you care?To answer the first question, it’s a free operating system that looks and acts very much like Unix. You can download it off the Net for free, or you can copy it legally from a friend – although this might take all the fun out of using that CD-Writer you’ve got and never use for anything, except to brag about it to your friends.Alternatively, you can buy it nicely packaged from an Internet store and get it delivered with a book about Linux, (Linux Unleashed).Distributors charge not for the operating system it...

10 Most Common Reasons for Computer Failure in Business and Industry
2008-07-01 13:37:40
Computers are performing more and more tasks in the office and workplace than they ever have before. Computers can conduct many tasks more efficiently than human workers but the more we rely on them the more vulnerable we find ourselves when the machines fail. Each year, companies have an average of 501 hours of computer downtime, costing them millions in annual productivity and revenue and according to a recent study; computer downtime is responsible for the loss of 3.6% of annual revenue. Which is almost has high as the revenue loss by employee absence (6 %)!The average life of an office PC is 3-4 years yet a computer’s life can be cut down to a fraction of that amount if the machine is expected to work in less than perfect conditions.Yet the majority...

Contemporary Dual-Core Processors Shootout
2008-06-29 01:11:27
Any views, even if they are based on your life experience, should be revised from time to time. Especially since technological progress as well as certain companies’ engineering and marketing efforts may seriously affect these views with the time. Even if you are not checking out computer hardware price-lists and news on a regular basis, you still understand, how unstable the situation in the computer market actually is and how frequently it changes. That is why we believe it is essential to perform large comparative test sessions for different hardware components every now and then, because results of these tests may be very helpful in painting the complete picture of the current market situation at a given moment of time.Today we would like to offer you a material like that. AMD Phenom Changes Stepping to B3
2008-06-29 01:09:41
I don’t think that you will consider our recent reviews of quad-core AMD Phenom processors optimistic in any way. Unfortunately, the micro-architectural improvements didn’t help AMD achieve any parity with the competitor’s solutions. That is why the AMD Phenom processors that have been in the market until this day were defeated by Intel Core 2 Quad in terms of performance as well as heat dissipation. Moreover, AMD Phenom didn’t hit competitive working frequencies, too. However, the most frustrating drawback of the new quad-core AMD processors was the so-called “TLB-bug”, which software fix affected the systems performance quite noticeably. And even though this bug didn’t really show that often in desktop platforms, it still had a negative effect on the overall Phenom image. E...

Core 2 Duo E7200
2008-06-29 01:08:57
I don’t think anyone will argue that the transition to 45nm production process allowed Intel to significantly improve their processors on Core micro-architecture. It seems that the new CPUs from Penryn family didn’t get any revolutionary improvements compared with the older Conroe CPUs. However nevertheless, they boast a number of advantages that may seem insignificant at first glance, but combined altogether ensured a tremendous step forward, so that these new processors proved totally praiseworthy.True, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors manufactured with 45nm process can boast higher performance, lower heat dissipation as well as better frequency and overclocking potential than their predecessors. It was possible to improve the consumer features of...

Three Cores vs. Two: AMD Phenom X3 8750
2008-06-29 01:08:00
AMD’s situation in the processor market these days can hardly be called enviable. AMD fans pinned a lot of hopes upon new K10 micro-architecture, however in reality it didn’t help the company create worthy rivals to Intel’s solutions, even though this micro-architecture is indeed innovative and efficient. Evident strengths of this micro-architecture, such as native quad-core design and L3 cache shared between all cores, remained in the shade because of technological issues that prevented AMD from getting to produce processors with frequencies beyond 2.5GHz. As a result, quad-ore Phenom X4 processors that are already available today turn out unable to compete not only against new 45nm Penryn CPUs, but also against the old 65nm Intel processors. Moreover, the performance gap between Phe...

bios & cmos ram
2008-06-02 15:09:09
Some people confuse BIOS with the CMOS RAM in a system. This confusion is aided by the fact that the Setup program in the BIOS is used to set and store the configuration settings in the CMOS RAM. They are, in fact, two totally separate components. The BIOS on the motherboard is stored in a fixed ROM chip. Also on the motherboard is a chip called the RTC/NVRAM chip, which stands for real-time clock/nonvolatile memory. This is where the BIOS Setup information is stored, and it is actually a digital clock chip with a few extra bytes of memory thrown in. It is usually called the CMOS chip because it is made using CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) technology. The first example of this ever used in a PC was the Motorola MC146818 chip, which had 64 bytes of storage, of which 10 bytes...

bios
2008-06-02 15:02:55
It is often difficult for people to understand the difference between hardware and software in a PC system. The differences can be difficult because they are both very much intertwined in the system design, construction, and operation. Understanding these differences is essential to understanding the role of the BIOS in the system.BIOS is a term that stands for basic input/output system , which at the most basic level consists of low-level software that controls the system hardware. BIOS is essentially the link between hardware and software in a system. Most people know the term BIOS by another name— device drivers, or just drivers . BIOS is a single term that describes all the drivers (low-level hardware control programs) in a system working together to act as an interface between the ...

amd athelon chipset
2008-06-02 14:41:14
AMD took a gamble with its Athlon and Duron processors. With these processors, AMD decided for the first time to create a chip that was Intel compatible with regards to software but not directly hardware or pin compatible. Whereas the K6 series would plug into the same Socket 7 that Intel designed for the Pentium processor line, the AMD Athlon and Duron would not be pin compatible with the Pentium II/III and Celeron chips. This also meant that AMD could not take advantage of the previously existing chipsets and motherboards when the Athlon and Duron were introduced; instead, AMD would have to either create its own chipsets and motherboards or find other companies who would. The gamble seems to have paid off. AMD bootstrapped the market by introducing its own chipset, referred to as the ...

intel chipset
2008-06-02 14:33:26
You can’t talk about chipsets today without discussing Intel because it currently owns the vast majority of the chipset market. It is interesting to note that we probably have Compaq to thank for forcing Intel into the chipset business in the first place! The thing that really started it all was the introduction of the EISA bus designed by Compaq in 1989.At that time, it had shared the bus with other manufacturers in an attempt to make it a market standard. However, Compaq refused to share its EISA bus chipset—a set of custom chips necessary to implement this bus on a motherboard. Enter Intel, who decided to fill the chipset void for the rest of the PC manufacturers wanting to build EISA bus motherboards. As is well known today, the EISA bus failed to be...

chipset
2008-06-02 14:13:03
Chipsets We can’t talk about modern motherboards without discussing chipsets. The chipset is the motherboard; therefore, any two boards with the same chipsets are functionally identical. The chipset contains the processor bus interface (called front-side bus, or FSB), memory controllers, bus controllers,I/O controllers, and more. All the circuits of the motherboard are contained within the chipset. If the processor in your PC is like the engine in your car, the chipset represents the chassis. It is the framework in which the engine rests and is its connection to the outside world. The chipset is the frame, suspension, steering, wheels and tires, transmission, driveshaft, differential, and brakes. The chassis in your car is what gets the power to the ground, allowing the vehicle to start,...

Processor Upgrades
2008-06-02 14:00:42
Processor UpgradesSince the 486, processor upgrades have been relatively easy for most systems. With the 486 and later processors, Intel designed in the capability to upgrade by designing standard sockets that would take a variety of processors. Thus, if you have a motherboard with Socket 3, you can put virtually any 486 processor in it; if you have a Socket 7 motherboard, it should be capable of accepting virtually any Pentium processor (or Socket 7-based third-party processor). To maximize your motherboard, you can almost always upgrade to the fastest processor your particular board will support. Because of the varieties of processor sockets and slots—not to mention voltages, speeds, and other potential areas of i...

Processor Specifications
2008-06-02 10:00:07
Processor SpecificationsMany confusing specifications often are quoted in discussions of processors. The following sections discuss some of these specifications, including the data bus, address bus, and speed. The next section includes a table that lists the specifications of virtually all PC processors. Processors can be identified by two main parameters: how wide they are and how fast they are. The speed of a processor is a fairly simple concept. Speed is counted in megahertz (MHz) and gigahertz (GHz), which means millions and billions, respectively, of cycles per second—and faster is better! The width of a processor is a little more complicated to discuss because three main specifications in a processor are expressed in width. They are ¦ Data I/O ...

microprocessor
2008-06-02 09:48:19
The brain or engine of the PC is the processor (sometimes called microprocessor), or central processing unit (CPU). The CPU performs the system’s calculating and processing. The processor is often the most expensive single component in the system (although graphics card pricing now surpasses it in some cases); in higher-end systems it can cost up to four or more times more than the motherboard it plugs into. Intel is generally credited with creating the first microprocessor in 1971 with the introduction of a chip called the 4004. Today Intel still has control over the processor market, at least for PC systems. This means that all PC-compatible systems use either Intel processors or Intel-compatible processors from a handful of competitors (such as AMD or VIA/Cyrix).Intel’s dominance in...

What Is a PC?
2008-06-02 09:36:32
I normally ask the question, “What exactly is a PC?” when I begin one of my PC hardware seminars.Of course, most people immediately answer that PC stands for personal computer, which in fact it does. They might then continue by defining a personal computer as any small computer system purchased and used by an individual. Unfortunately, that definition is not nearly precise or accurate enough for our purposes. I agree that a PC is a personal computer, but not all personal computers are PCs. For example, an Apple Macintosh system is clearly a personal computer, but nobody I know would call a Mac a PC, least of all Mac users! For the true definition of what a PC is, you must look deeper. Calling something a PC implies that it is something much more specific than just any personal computer...
