I'm not from London you know
2008-01-28 03:48:00
Our first single comes out today. Of course I could (and I will) list some of the places where it's available:iTunesWippitDitto musicAs a bit of added value, what follows is something of how, when and where it was recorded. This is Foel Studios in Wales, I don't know why I packed that tank-top. We were there for a week last summer before traveling to the Larmer Tree festival; a week during which we recorded Best Friends, had a 'moment' as the van teetered on the verge of a deep ravine and were henceforth rescued by the local farmer. Comparisons to Withnail & I were drawn and we laughed long and hard every time someone quoted a line from the film; "I'm not from London you know...", "Of course he's the f$%&king farmer, look at him!" and "we've come...

I am the fastest man on Regent st. The record was set as I swerved in and out of a stagnant crowd who stood like statues, unaware of the blistering speed and ease by which I was passed through them. I was the shark who'd sniffed it's prey, they were obsessed with their own delay. The two days training had really paid off. My senses had dulled the despicable sense of lure from each shop window and on race night I was able to soar where others fell poor.I was the fastest man on Regent stNow my steps I must retraceFor every thing I left behindIn my record breaking haste....

The King
2007-11-11 15:32:00
The music industry is often a lonely, heartless, back stabber of an animal. Occasionally my faith is restored and I'm reminded exactly why I got into it in the first place, like when I recently met Micheal Jackson:As well as hanging out with the king of pop I've had the band in the studio for a week. We recorded 4 tracks with Ville & Matt from the Animal Farm pushing the buttons and talking us through everything from a teenage boy's favourite hobby to the definitive A-Z of metal bands. It was an amazing experience and my phone's been ringing pretty much constantly since the tracks went up on myspace, follow this link to hear for yourself. We're next playing live on the 4th December at The Comedy on Leicester Square, then I'm doing a solo show in Sweden on or around the 25th December...

Best Friends
2007-10-14 15:50:00
Shot the video for our debut single Best Friends yesterday. Today I'm aching like I've done two rounds 'gainst a girl, which is exactly what I have done. Really great shoot, thanks to everyone who worked so hard on the day and those who helped in the run up. We shot in Camden after Batman kept us out of Battersea Power Station....

location, location, location
2007-09-26 05:10:00
We're looking for a location to shoot the next music video. Imagine a cross between Raging Bull & the Radiohead video, Street Spirit and if you throw into that mix some character (that'll be estate agent jargon for 'bit of a sh1th0le') then we would like to hear from you. Can't imagine why any of you wholesome lot would know of such a den of inequity...hmmmmm...

best unsigned bands of 2007
2007-09-12 08:29:00
I implore you to stick with this:Thanks to everyone for screaming their pants off at The Carling Academy on Tuesday, it seems to have gone down very well with the suits. Got some photos on the way which I'll upload with some news as soon they/it arrives. There are reports coming in that 'Chav Song' was played on BBC 2 the other morning. In what context I'm not sure but I'm regularly checking the post for the royalty cheque...no sign as yet.We also got played on Garry Bushells' 'best unsigned & independent bands of 2007' podcast on the 11th. You can hear what he had to say about us by clicking here and following the link to Garry's Rancid Sounds podcast. The show is an unusually good platform for new music - well worth checking out and The MüVs are the f...

It took me ages to draw a picture of a t-shi...

Table Service
2007-08-21 07:15:00
I’ve moved my office into the local pub who provide an excellent table service and free internet for computers that are allowed out of the house on their own. Mine is well old and goes out all the time. With age comes great responsibility and crucially, if you’re an electronic device, a shorter battery life – in this case a maximum of 1 hour. That’s not nearly long enough when you put yourself about so much, here is a list of all the places I hang out looking for love:FacebookMyspaceLast.fmVoxReverbnation wildplumparlophoneyoutubeI wondered what percentage of a person’s day was spent either thinking about or updating their facebook status. Was it now becoming the first place you go to announce your news? Could anybody really call off their relat...

The Fly
2007-07-25 11:33:00
Remember this?My hair's starting to look a bit like Jeff's these days...AND we'll be playing a massive gig at 'The Fly' on Oxford Street as part of a Barfly tour. I'm not planning any kind of transformation to an insect but it's definitely worth coming to check us out for the night. Tickets in advance from this handy (and secure) little button:Ta to everyone for their support, bzzzzzz...

EP2, 'Everything's fine, absolutely nothing to worry about' is available now. Chav Song, Emily, Butterfingers and Divorce all wrapped up in a tidy little package that looks a bit like this:...

Larmer Tree and Foel Studios
2007-07-18 10:05:00
It's been busy round here. First we drove to Foel Studios in Llanfair Caereinion, Wales (literally the middle of nowhere) to record two new songs and enjoy guilt free lunchtime binge drinking. From there we went to do this:Stepping onto that stage was like leaving the pub...all of a sudden you realise how drunk you are. It was an amazing show on a stage over 120 years old and signed backstage by everyone who's ever played there, I was told Paul McCartney's name was there somewhere but I didn't look too hard. This is what it looked like from the other side:This was the first of our two shows at Larmer Tree festival, the rain stopped as we came out onto stage (less impressively it started again straight after we finished) and we played 45 minutes of the best t...

Ch Ch Ch Changes
2007-07-01 10:20:00
It is with great regret that I'm announcing that Barney won't be playing with The MüVs for the immediate future. This has been an amicable and mutual split and is far from an end to the wonderful music we've made together, this blog will be the place to find our new collaborations first so keep a close eye.Barney has been instrumental in the band gaining such a glowing reputation and ultimately this success has meant we had to make a very difficult decision in deciding to split as neither myself nor Barney could see how he was able to give as much to The MüVs as he would have liked to. He has achieved a lot in his industry and understandably felt that he didn't want to give it all up to tour with us in the back of Emily (that's our van). This happened a while back but I've been putting o...

Beverley Knight
2007-06-17 08:11:00
Sunday, bloody Sundays as Partridge might have put it.Today we should have been shooting the long awaited video to Chav Song. A combination of poor weather, poor diary management and poor lean fowler has unfortunately rendered this 'Shoulda' to something of a 'Woulda, Coulda'. Hopefully we got through to everyone in time and there's not a legion of Burberry dissin' us in and around Shepherds Bush this afternoon. The Westbourne gig was great once we finally clambered on stage albeit a little inhebriated. New song 'Best Friends' went off and Duff's new hat was similarly popular, here are some photos of us waiting to go on:Friday we return to Lark in The Park (I caught the Libertines here before they were anything and have since developed a bit of a crush on it's loud and live policy, beer gar...

10,000
2007-05-31 06:39:00
There's been two gigs since the last post. We played Metro on 5th May to a packed crowd and in true rock 'n roll stylee blew up our guitar amp twice, after this rather difficult start we went on to play a great set and made lots of new friends - hello everyone! The next show was an entirely different affair thanks to my amazing foresight booking a gig on the same night as the Champions League final, really special thanks to everyone who came and missed the football for an altogether more exciting evening's entertainment. Most of you will have heard the new stuff up on MySpace and I'm really pleased to say it's being very well received - both by the punters and the industry - apologies for the delay in getting your hands on a copy but it's going to be well worth it. We also hit a landmar...

The Wrong Trousers
2007-04-30 03:39:00
Look what happened to me on Friday:Not a hint of exaggeration, I'm 100% stuck fast in the door. This is the same pair of jeans that caught fire a couple of years back at a P.J. Harvey gig, perhaps that might have been a sign that I should have stopped wearing them. They are the exact opposite of my lucky/pulling pants.I've been writing and recording some instrumental music for a corporate client, sounds impressive eh? Actually turned out really nice and contrary to what I imagined would pop out, I'm really proud the work. Hopefully getting a piece ready for a film soon enough which I'm now really looking forward to. Also been writing with Miss Galliers after months of saying we must, the song has come out brilliant and I'm look forward to sharing it with you all when it's available.Th...

Hemingway
2007-04-02 11:36:00
Read an interesting thing recently. Ernest Hemingway once described his best work to be a novel he wrote in just 6 words:"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."This was in a Guardian article which I have to mention in case I'm in any kind of legal situation by quoting it. They went on to challenge contemporary authors to do the same, the full thing can (and should) be read here. The real genius of those six words above is how quickly and almost subconsciously they expand into a million or more different possibilities, before you've even fully understood what he did. Obviously I had a go:"Six words? Six!!! can't do it..."Obviously devoting my time to the novel has kept me very busy but with The MüVs we've managed the odd rather exciting time. Thursday at Underwolrd was a particular highli...

and the winner is...
2007-03-19 05:27:00
First of all thanks to everyone who took the time to enter our competition to title EP2. I was always expecting to get something really good out of this experiment but was almost overwhelmed with the number of entries. There were honestly LOTS more than we expected, a great way for us to gauge where we stand but also a much bigger problem choosing a winner than any of us really expected. That aside we've now come to a decision and, in true X-Factor style, will be milking the suspense by way of revealing our top three shortlist - the winner's at the bottom:Runner up 1 is Phil Owen in Rochdale with 'El Nacho Pea Head'. What we particularly liked about this was that it made us laugh and therefore caught our eye, not least because of the accompanying paragraph to explain the entry which I in...

You can read this if you want. It's really only here to make the next post viewable so I don't have to fanny around with html and stuff, I've got to keep writing so there's enough words/pictures to push the links on the right hand side down far enough. Here's a picture, that'll take up some space...This is to support an entry for the EP title appeal - extra points have been awarded for supplying artwork.Did everyone enjoy the countdown conundrum link?I'm gonna have to keep going...this made me laugh once or twice:NowI'mgettingdesperateinmyattemptstofillspace...that should do it, on with the show then:...

Countdown Conundrum
2007-03-05 04:30:00
I'm faced with a conundrum. The response to the appeal to name our impending EP release has been nothing short of huge and the quality of entry ranges from the sublime to ridiculous. I am also pleased to announce that to date we have only received 1 suggestion that contains a swearword although several of you have implied a certain degree of filth within your entry. The competition deadline is Friday 16th March and we'll be announcing the winner on stage at The Dublin Castle that very night. If you haven't yet entered but want to try your luck you email your entry right here...oh, someone new's just entered as I type - see the entry in the comments section of this video. The conundrum is that I must somehow answer your requests for lyrics whilst not ...

When the world was black and white
2007-02-26 05:07:00
The entries are coming in thick and fast, if you're not sure what I'm on about or fancy watching me squirm in front of camera then watch this:We want to get as many entries as possible so please use the YouTube sharing tool to get this to all your mates via email. Don't forget we're offering a signed and framed copy to the winner and the chance for you to go to record shops with your mates and say "...see that, I came up with the title, and my name's on it too" We need to go to print mid/late-March so the closing date will be Friday March 16th, coincidently we're playing the Dublin Castle that night and will announce our winner on stage, enter as many times as you like....and let's see some more comments on my good friends blog - never a truer word spoken!...

Title
2007-02-21 09:05:00
On the 27th February The MüVs headline at The Comedy on Leicester Square. This is the flyer you'll need to get in that bit cheaper and let everyone know who you're there to see. Looks like there's going to be a lot of you so feel free to, how shall I put this?..have it!If you like you can read about when I played here once before...something about Miquita from Popworld and Mork and Mindy springs to mind.I'm also very proud to say that The MüVs have been nominated as a favourite act for 2006 by Peafish promtions. We need votes to win and thanks every one of you who has done so already, and particularly those of you who are going to again! You'll find us under 'm' for MüVs Mum, in the artist voting section. We've also been back in the studio and are getting very close now to releasing EP...

Posing
2007-02-07 05:14:00
I am of the opinion that there are two types person, the extrovert (he who possesses an assured self confidence, not necessarily justified by any discernible talent or skill, example) and the introvert (Paul Scholes). There is as yet no better way to decide which category a person belongs to than by pointing a camera in their face. The extrovert may display a coy shyness and protest that he or she takes terrible photos, often using phrases such as "...that bloody camera again!" or "no really, let me take one of you." This however is only a front, secretly they're thinking along the lines of a major modeling contract and conjuring up smiles that not only show off their intelligence and sophistication but also betray an as yet unknown to science sexual prowess.Of course, all of this thought...

Dignity
2007-01-26 09:26:00
It's early days but by golly, there's only gone and been two new blog posting in a week! Now if only the band could have employed such language, our dignity might have remained intact and I wouldn't have to be issuing a parental advisory notice due to the explicit language detailed in the latest Podcast, 'can'tcountcast', named as such in that we appear to have jumped from number 8 to 10 without mention of the famous number 9.So this is a film to demonstrate all the hard work that goes in to putting on a big show. This is for everyone who was at the Hoxton Square bar, 16th Dec (there were a LOT of you) and particularly the young lady with the scream. You can get all previous and all future Podcasts by subscribing or for the first time you can view the P...

First day nerves
2007-01-22 06:16:00
Today I begin an adventure. This is my first day in my new job as a rock star where my main activities will be drinking espresso, wearing berets, discussing art and poetry, reading classic literature and going out and having it at night. This daily routine will provide me with inspirational insights not normally afforded to those that remain slaves to the daily grind but who in fact have a proper job and - crucially - come home with a payslip each month and a pension plan allowing them to enjoy a full and solvent life.Typing this brings to mind a fable about two mice, one of which saved for the winter by burying his berries whilst the other wasted his berries on drink and loose women. I can't remember who had the best time in the long run but have based my decision to retire from proper...

Bestest
2006-12-02 03:46:00
Found a grey hair last week. I imagined an overreaction might cause a chain reaction resulting in a full mane of the silver stuff and am more than pleased to report I was able to remain calm in the face of extreme distress. When something as significant as this comes into your life it is surprising how the body and mind reacts. I am currently re-thinking my philosophy to life and have found much to ponder in the latin phrase 'Carpe diem' and the movement of Existentialism.Any readers who missed us at Ginglik, The 7th Knight in Shepherds Bush quite possibly missed out on one of the best nights London has to offer on a Sunday night...and not just 'cause we played a blinder! Those who were there enjoyed acoustic, quirky songs from Gavin Osborn and 'Blaine shaming' incredible table magic from ...

11
2006-11-04 02:38:00
Get in there!!!!!Blew the P.A up Friday night. Not really, but we were loud enough to kill all power to the venue during an especially raucous Emily - Kate is next to me to explain the science behind this so get comfy, it's gonna be a very exciting ride! The gig was Artesian Well in Clapham, a smallish live room above a fashionable den of inequity, packed out with young bucks, rock stars and a fantastic selection of hotties . We decided to wear suits for the evening to celebrate Hollywood's birthday and cranked the amps all the way up to eleven!!So yeah, we played at 11 and everything turned off. Here's a picture of Hollywood (also known as Face) shouting amateurs a la Ian Brown circa 1989 - if anyone can find a video of this please send the link. And then some very clever people turned ever...

First Gig
2006-09-20 10:37:00
...and what a way to start!Chav Song won an award from the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers. We got to play The Carling Academy in Islington as a result, this would be our first gig as a 5-piece in front of around 500, mostly industry bods - no pressure then! Barney delayed his holiday to make the gig, big thanks to Gemma who made that possible. Girls...they're brill. We opened the night and for the first time in gigging history the compere announced The MüVs making proper use of that cheeky umlaut (ie he correctly pronounced us the moves) although when speaking specifically about me, I became Joano, and HER band The MüVs! The band were backstage at this point, creasing up and directing their cross-gender jokes directly at yours. I went onstage and asked the 500 punters if he...

Vogue
2006-08-08 22:18:00
Ancient musical folk lore states that being the singer means that you're open to constant ridicule from the rest of the band. A near perfect example of this can be seen here where I'm blissfully unaware of what is going on around me whilst trying to Vogue artistically up against a wall.At least I get to wear the best sunnies:This is the gorgeous lead section of The MüVs (left to right) Barney, Simon and jOnnO. There were a couple of shots of the rhythm section but their faces became too obscured by the kind of drool associated with extreme concentration (bless):Here we are doing a rock 'n roll walk. Notice the aforementioned lead section all looking to our right. That's because we think we've spotted a mirror.Photos courtesy (as always) of Dave Phunk, than...

Villiage Idiot
2006-07-23 15:24:00
There's no pictures with today's post. Instead we have a literary feast for your imagination, to give those most memorable pictures of all; those that you make with your mind ( I can almost hear you whisper a spaced out 'yeah man yeah') and nothing at all to do with the fact I couldn't find a single one where I don't look like the Villiage Idiot.New songs on MySpace! As promised, we're giving away some new free music. 'Emily', 'Just Your Luck' (live) and a new version of 'Butterfingers' (live) can all be downloaded for free by visiting www.myspace.com/themuvs. Now how nice is that? If you want to complete the set you can buy a single download of 'Chav Song' here or visit the official site and order EP1 if you like your music in a fancy package (a few signed ones lying around, let us kno...

Larmer Tree Festival
2006-07-19 13:48:00
The MüVs went to the Larmer Tree festival and bagged two slots playing in the Acoustic Roots Cafe in the main village. Also caught some of the best live music I've ever seen thanks to The Martin Harley Band, Son of Dave, Holly Golightly and Badger Ales to name but a few. Those of you who fancy a laugh can download a short film of me trying to erect our 3-second tent. Needless to say it took me longer than 3 seconds to complete the job and more like an hour once I'd finished whacking the pegs into the granite-hard ground with my converse. My practical skills continue to contradict my age as do my planning and organising skills (which is why I didn't bring a mallet). The Larmer Tree attracts an amazing crowd; civilised enough...

There's been a drought
2006-07-11 22:27:00
It's here! The long awaited fifth Podcast is now online. Sorry for the ridiculous delay (also applicable to blog posting) and try to remember the fragile artistic nature of your author whilst clicking that refresh button every day in fits of rage at my apparent lack of productivity re all things MüVs. I can hardly blame England's predictably short world cup campaign for this dry period but I reserve the right to appropriate a certain amount of blame towards my considerable efforts during this time of drought. For I, dear reader, have taken the noble step of reducing my intake of the clear stuff that is life's great mediator and replaced it with a diet mostly consisting of life's great inebriate-er, Ale. I have been encouraging those around me to do the sa...

Camouflage
2006-06-15 00:34:00
Saturday 10th June 2006: The sun beat down, a mallet on soggy tarmac and the air as still as treacle. A gang of five boarded London's melting transport system on a mission for large screen football. Among them your protagonist - boiling like a kettle with a guitar strapped to it's back - pondered the inevitability of breaking the promise he'd made about not getting too pissed before the gig. Three members of the troup had thoughtfully dressed in camouflage therefore rendering themselves all but invisible whilst traversing London's sea of woodland and urban forestry.Watching England was as torturous as ever but a very good friend of mine has requested that we all stay positive about our chances and don't send the team bad vibes - they can feel it man! ...

Meet The Band
2006-05-31 21:14:00
This blog began as a one man vehicle on a well worn road to that vastly over-populated metropolis, rocknrollstardomville. In a rare moment of thinking something through a little further than my old nose, foresight granted me a momentary glimpse of a future where I wasn't competing for top billing with any number of skinny trousered, pencil thin tie wearing 5 piece indie bands with little more than a piece of wood, some strings and an almost orthodontic harmonica brace to keep me company. Yes, The MüVs were born as a one man band but the idea was always to recruit more musicians, otherwise I'd have had to come up with a famous sounding name - most of the best ones have gone: Ronald McDonald Audrey Hepburn - damn it I wanted that one! Tom Cruise Penelope Cruz - and that one! Orlan...

2006-05-14 12:01:00
Tuesday 9th May, The Railway Tavern: Another top night, welcome on-board to Duff - new bass player for The MüVs. We now have a rhythm section and things are looking up. Photos courtesy of resident picture man, Dave Phunk (slideshow) and MüVette, KT.Chav Song has made a re-entry into The Pulse Rated chart and will be on air 6pm Sunday 14th May. The show repeats Tuesday (16th) 6-8pm, Thursday(18th) 6-8pm & Friday(19th) 4-6pm and can be heard by clicking on this lovely link. Fans of The MüVs can vote for us via this even more lovely link (apologies for the bad links you got via email, if you didn't get one then you're not on the mailing list which you can put right by clicking this; the last and most lovely of the lovely links).I was in Covent Garden waiting for my Mum to try on a skirt...

The Modesty Zip
2006-05-07 12:20:00
Well, this is a novel experience. I’m on the train to Wakefield (a research project to establish the spread of Chav culture north of Watford and me old man’s birthday) whilst online, typing to you avid reader. The wonders of wi-fi have come a long way indeed although it has yet to face up to that sternest of railway tests and scourge of the mobile community, the tunnel. Time will tell…Wednesday 26th April, Progress Bar Tufnell Park: These pages are no stranger to the phrase ‘best gig yet’ and some may accuse your author of a long breath into his own polished brass instrument. A baby grand piano, longer than usual set, impressive turnout and wild banter were the perfectly proportioned ingredients to (yep, you guessed it) The MüVs best night to date. You can catch a glimpse of the...

Spring is in the air. The long dark nights and wintery morning frosts are reaching their fragile end for another year, lambs effortlessly bound through dew kissed meadows, April showers give birth to new garden life and I shelve my maturing taste for ale and begin to drink cold, fizzy lager once again. Ah....Mandolin Pete was in town the other night playing an impressive set with Bone-Box. Took him back our contemporary living space in the fried chicken capital of western Europe where he had the audacity to beat me at pool:Also caught New Yorker Reid Paley in a blistering solo set on a very rock & roll night indeed - thanks lads, had a right good 'un.There's been two gigs for The MüVs since the last post plus another, shorter webcast which for those who enjoyed the last one is availa...

A moment...
2006-03-25 12:10:00
Saturday 11th March at The Caernarvon Castle, Camden. Disappointingly not actually a real castle, we were forced to make a quick costume change from the Jester gear we'd spent so long getting into. This was by far the biggest gig to date for The MüVs, a crowd of a couple of hundred beefed up by 44 die-hard MüVs fans who braved Camden High St on a dark Saturday night. My old man resisted the temptation to return to his rogue days of youth when offered all kinds of mind altering substances on the short walk from Camden Town tube - I'm so proud. That's not to say his mind hasn't been altered by a recent long haul trip around the world's top destinations. Shanghai, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia to name but a few, he came back with some wild ideas about Buddhism, large rocks and a coupl...

2006-03-05 17:28:00
We had great fun at Brodies, Canary Wharf recently. Although first impressions might suggest otherwise, I am NOT in fact being accompanied by the Hulk on keys - this is Barney moments after he's spotted a camera, stopped playing and come right over to put his arm around me and pose for the snap...also note me maintaining complete composure and not pissing myself laughing one bit. An on stage chemistry was born between (and often during) numbers, notable for Barney coming to terms with the death of his pet hamster (was killed at the wheel). 'That Boy' was re-worked to include a musical round (first one since primary school) and 'Chav Song' changed key for an electrifying mouth organ solo - sweet. Set list:1. I've only got eyes for you (but you should see what I've got for your sister)2. J...
