Sneak Peak - New trakAxMobile
2008-06-27 11:45:00
I realise it’s been slightly quiet on the blog front - we’ve been hibernating indoors while slaving away on the latest release of trakAxMobile. I’m super-excited about the latest version, which will be online within a matter of weeks. (Everyone who has purchased trakAxMobile will be eligible for this upgrade - so if you purchase today, you’ll get access to the new version on release). I’ve put together a little Sneak Preview of the new trakAxMobile features, to give you an idea of what you can expect - check them out in the video below: trakAxMobile - Sneak Peak! from Catriona Barry on Vimeo. We’ve taken on board many of the suggestions made to us by various reviewers and users, which have been really helpful. The main new features are highlighted in the video above (please feel free to share/embed this) and I’ve also included some screenshots below. The new release will be available for VGA devices initially, with the other scre...

Tips - Do I need to get the rights to music used in my film?
2008-06-03 05:09:00
We’ve just added a new category to the Blog - “Tips”. There so much information on the net, that we thought it would be useful to collate some relevant information into short Tips on music making, video creation and mobile devices. The first tip we thought we would deal with is the question of video soundtracks and their usage. Do I need to get the rights to music used in my film if I’m not charging people to view it? Often people feel that if you are not a pro-filmmaker or releasing a video commercially that music copyright doesn’t really apply to them. Don’t get us wrong, I think we’ve all used a track we’ve loved on a video and put it online to share. The fact is that this is actually illegal. Although YouTube is often pretty slow to remove videos with copyrighted soundtracks, if you are creating a video to share online, especially if you are representing a company or organisation, you should be using soundtracks that you have the ...

Newest Addition to the trakAx Team
2008-05-26 09:32:00
We wanted to congratulate Cormac (who you may know from the forum - always answering your trakAxPC questions!) and his wife Rachael on the arrival on their completely adorable new little baby, Ruby.  As Ruby is also my niece, we got to see her today - just 3 days old! She’s totally cute and seems like a very chilled out baby (didn’t cry at all, although I’m sure that won’t last!) I took a few pictures earlier with my phone and created a short mix with trakAxMobile (sorry Cormac - hope this doesn’t classify as using your baby!). Congrats from all at trakAx.com and looking forward to babysitting duties! Baby Ruby from Catriona Barry on Vimeo. Track - Falling Away - from our Royalty-Free Music Collection ...

Video Tutorials for French Speakers
2008-05-21 04:26:00
Jean-Claude Arzur from 1colibri.com has put together an amazing range of trakAxPC video tutorials for French Speakers - please visit - http://www.1colibri.com/trakaxpc/index.php.

trakAxMobile 320x320 Now Available
2008-05-12 14:16:01
trakAxMobile is now available for 320x320 Square Touchscreen devices. A 7 day trial is available online and the full version is available for just $19.99. We just got our hands on a Samsung i780, so we had to get a version running on this device asap. There aren’t a huge amount of 320x320 devices out there, but if you do have a i780 (think they are calling it the “new Blackjack"), trakAxMobile runs amazing on it. It’s such a powerful phone and rendering/processing time on it is super quick. I also find the colours on this device really slick and the display looks lovely. Going to post some test videos in the next few days using the device, when I get a chance to leave the office and get out in the great weather that has come to Ireland (while it lasts - knowing our luck, it’ll be raining again before Friday comes). All the features and functionality are there from the VGA/QVGA versions and it scales to the square dimension really well. So if you do have a 3...

Follow trakAx on Twitter
2008-05-12 08:00:00
I’ve been experimenting with Twitter over the last week and you can follow our Twitter thread at: http://twitter.com/trakax We’re still figuring how best to use the system, but think it should be pretty handy for quick updates and news that doesn’t always warrant a full blog post. We’ll be keeping it pretty much all trakax-related, so won’t be twittering when I am taking a coffee break etc. Feel free to ‘follow’ us on Twitter - would be great to see how some of you guys might be using it, so we will follow back to see what you’re up to. In other news, we’ve almost completely uploaded all the new royalty-free full track content in the Loop section - all the World Music and Punk tracks are now live and worth checking out. As always, if you’ve got any questions on any of our products, please just drop us a line on the forum or by email and we’ll make every effort to answer your queries quickly and efficiently. T...

trakAxMobile - New Release
2008-04-17 07:15:00
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working hard on the latest release of trakAxMobile. We’ve made great improvements to this exciting application - some immediately noticeable, some a little more subtle. Everyone who has purchased trakAxMobile is eligible for this upgrade and should have received an email with the details - if for some reason you have not, please just drop us a line. To help you find the application, we’ve updated the icon to include a graphic of a movie clip and scissors - so when you want to create a video, just click the Movie icon. We’ve also slimmed down the applications, with great improvements in file size - this is especially noticeable in the VGA version, which is now almost 40% smaller. Along with better a/v sync, smoother transitions and some small bug fixes, we think this is the best release to date. If you’ve already installed trakAxMobile, you can simply install the new version and overwrite the previous version or yo...

trakAxMobile in the Press
2008-03-26 10:41:00
Some recent posts and articles on trakAxMobile from the web: "If you haven’t looked into TrakAx Mobile you should give it some thought. It is probably one of the most innovative Windows Mobile apps I’ve seen in a long time and well worth the money, especially for $19.99” Palm Sounds - March 12, 2008 “A few months back we covered trakAxmobile. This software lets you mix and edit video, music and images on Windows Mobile devices. Selling for just $19.99 (£9.84) there’s also a trial version available so you can test it out first. There’s now a VGA (640x480) version for anyone lucky enough to own a VGA-capable phone (like the i-Mate Ultimates). There’s also some tweaking to optimize the performance of the software, so feel free to download and remix the videos, pictures and music stored on your phone.” Cool Smartphone - March 14, 2008 “TrakAxMobile, an utility to create a multimedia mashup right on your Windows Mobile device. ...

trakAxMobile - MEX Report from MWC
2008-02-19 06:32:00
I had the pleasure of meeting with Marek Pawlowski at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Marek is from PMN Publications and is one of the organisers of the PMN Mobile User Experience Conference taking place in London in May.  Marek has put together a very comprehensive report from the MWC. I have copied the segment below from his report, where he discusses trakAxMobile and his visit to our stand. You can read Marek’s full report from the MEX blog - the report is in two sections and Part One is available from this link. “Making media on mobile I’d like to give a final mention for the best demonstration I saw at MWC this year: TrakAx, a mobile content production tool for Windows Mobile devices. Unfortunately the vast majority of my time at MWC is spent in back-to-back meetings, but I always try to find an hour or so to walk the floors in search of smaller companies doing innovative things in mobile. TrakAx caught my eye this year, simply because its tiny ...

Report - Mobile World Congress Barcelona
2008-02-18 11:23:00
First day back in the office since the whirlwind that is the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona - what a week! After setting up the stand over the weekend (which wasn’t without issues), we were ready to go first thing Monday. Some shows take a day or so to really heat up, but in Barcelona, once the opening whistle went at 9, we were welcoming visitors immediately. It was a long four days (our feet have almost recovered), but extremely interesting and ultimately very rewarding. It was the first time that we’ve got to demonstrate trakAxMobile to the industry and the response was overwhelming. There was plenty of buzz around Windows Mobile devices, with some really lovely new phones being shown at the show, but the one thing that people mentioned over and over again was that trakAxMobile really brought a “fun” element to the platform. We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to visit us - we met so many interesting people. The hard work starts now, fo...

Interview with Loopmasters
2008-02-18 04:14:00
We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Matt Pelling from the highly acclaimed sound producers, Loopmasters (their loops are available to download at trakAx.com!). Ever wondered how you make the step from enthusiastic amateur to full-blown professional? Matt gives us the lowdown on how he got started, his inspiration and plans for the future. Q. You have obviously been around the music industry for while now, how did you first get involved in the music business and how did you come up with the idea of Loopmasters? A. I was first a drummer, and I moved away to the country and wanted to keep making music so I started investigating sampling etc. I got a job working as marketing Manager for Time and Space, the UK main distributor of sample libraries, and from talking to users every day I soon formed the basis for the first sample libraries I released. Q. How long have you been running Loopmasters and what was the most challenging aspect of starting up your own loop-creation ...

trakAxPC “Herausragend” - German Review
2008-02-05 08:37:00
A review by Softtonic has just appeared and is syndicated in a number of German publications: Frankfurter Allgemeine, Muenchener Merkur and Der Bild. For once I don’t have to rely on Google’s translations, having studied German in school (although am not confident enough to write this post in German!) - it’s a very positive review and captures what we are trying to achieve with trakAxPC - hopefully it will be of interest to our German visitors: “Bringt Bild und Ton an die richtige Stelle TrakAxPC rüstet den PC mit einem kostenlosen Video- und Audioschnittplatz aus. Die Freeware schneidet Filmmaterial und Tondateien, mischt die verschiedenen Spuren und reichert die Multimedia-Dateien mit einfachen Effekten an. Unter einer Benutzeroberfläche hält TrakAxPC alle Werkzeuge für den Film- und Audioschnitt bereit: direkter Zugriff auf den Explorer, ein Hauptfenster mit den einzelnen Spuren, eine Voransicht sowie eine Hilfe. Ein Beispiel: Will man eine Audio-D...

Gear Diary Review of trakAxMobile
2008-01-25 04:51:01
“I am thrilled to see a program like this finally make its way to the Windows Mobile platform. Trakax provides a fantastic introduction to media mixing for Windows Mobile users.” Doug Goldring - GearDiary.com We were delighted to day to see such a thorough review of trakAxMobile in Gear Diary.  Like any good reviewer, Doug has some suggestions to improve trakAxMobile - all points we’ve taken on board and are currently hard at work at implementing. A few snippets from the review: “There you have it. Just add media, mix, and save. Three easy steps to perfect media mixes. What’s that? You say the pictures are all in the wrong order? and you only want a small section of the video and song you used? Oh and you want to add some captions and credits. And you want video transitions between your pictures? Yikes, that is a pretty tall order. Fortunately, the advanced features offered by Trakax, what I call Beyond the Three Steps are ready to jump in and help...

PocketPicks “The 5 best Windows Mobile apps of 2007”
2008-01-07 12:18:01
A great way to start the New Year - PocketPicks have compiled their list of the best applications for Windows Mobile for 2007 and we are delighted and honored to have trakAxMobile included in this list! The list was compiled by Stuart Houghton and it’s extremely cool to be mentioned alongside Google, Opera, Microsoft and Sprite. We have also been included in the “The 5 Best Mobile Music Picks of 2007” and again we’re completely delighted to be in print alongside such innovative companies such as Nokia, Apple and Amazon. Stuart says ”The app itself is a joy to use and is a great way to squeeze more enjoyment out of your music and videos” and ”One of the few Windows Mobile apps that is really fun to use - TrackAxMobile is a wonderfully simple, yet surprisingly rich, video and audio mixing suite that fits in the palm of your hand.”. Many thanks to PocketPicks for including us in this list - it’s a great resouce for keeping up-to-date with what’s happening, so if you’re interested in all things mobile, you should check it out. Hope everyone had a great holiday and Happy New Year to all our visitors. We think 2008 will be a really exciting year - we’ve got lots of plans: we’ll be exhibiting at the 3GSM in Barcelona in February, we have an exciting new release of trakAxPC pending and plan to extend the loop library to include more genres and also full tracks. So stay tuned for more. ...

Over 100,000 Visitors to trakAx.com!
2007-12-12 08:27:00
What’s in a number? Well, they can make you feel pretty good! We’re delighted to announce that we passed the 100,000 unique visitor mark within the first 60 days of going live (115,000 to be precise). Over 50,000 people have also downloaded trakAxPC (this is the number downloading from the trakAx.com site - the app is also available from a number of third-party sites). We’ve had a great first 60 days and we’d like to say thanks to everyone who has visited the site from all around the world. trakAx.com - News 12th Dec 07 from Catriona Barry on Vimeo. If you have a Windows Mobile Device, you should check out trakAxMobile as soon as possible - it's available for almost all Windows 5 & 6 QVGA devices (320x240/240x320 screens). The video above is made entirely with the application - I recorded the video using the phone's video camera, I recorded in the voiceover using the built-in mic (the sound could be better, but not too bad) and the screenshots were put into a slideshow - all the components were then mixed using trakAxMobile with an additional soundtrack and some credits. TIP If like me, your camera phone doesn't take the best videos, resize the videos before you embed them into your blog. So for example, the normal YouTube video is 425x355. Simply change the 'embed' code dimensions to something like 300x247 (once you keep the dimensions uniform, the video will look great). With YouTube videos you need to change the dimensions at the start and end of the code. For example the Vimeo video above dimensions are 400x327 - but as the HTC video input is pretty low, I changed the dimensions of the embedded video to 300x245, so that the video looks slightly clearer. With so many people downloading trakAxPC, trakAxMobile and trakPacks, we want you to share your creations with us. We set up a special area on the forums for you to share your videos and music links on YouTube/mySpace/Bebo/Facebook/MetaCafé/Vimeo/Veoh/eSnips etc., whereve...

Portugese Speakers - trakAxMobile Review
2007-11-27 09:30:01
Sandro Correia over at mobilidades.net/ pocketPT.net. has given trakAxMobile a very extensive review, including multiple screenshots and a really cool video. Nota final: 4.5 (1-5).” According to Google Translate that’s pretty good - a very rough translation is: “trakaxMobile is a software indispensable for those who would like to take the multimedia capabilities of their equipment to another level. Never experienced a software in the same area as intuitive, addictive and able to provide long periods of fun. Final note: 4.5 (1-5). ” Sandro has a few minor points, which are completely fair. In regards to the play-bar in the video editing window, we didn’t want to have to decompress the video in this window and we wanted users to be able to go straight to their video in order to edit it. For this reason, you cannot scrub through the video, which would be a great feature but wasn’t possible at this time without decompressing it - but definitely something we will look into. Also if you are having problems saving at ‘Best Quality’, it is more than likely due to a lack of RAM. If you close applications such as Messaging, Contacts, Calendar etc, you should be able to save at ‘Best Quality’ without any difficulties. Many thanks to Sandro for such a detailed and thorough review and evaluation. It’s always brilliant to see someone up and running with it and we always appreciate the feedback. (You can also read the review on pocketPT.net) ...

trakAxMobile - “It’s incredibly easy to use”
2007-11-26 06:33:01
Well, it’s been one week since we released trakAxMobile into the world and we’ve been nervously awaiting feedback. Some really nice articles are starting to appear over the last few days. PocketPicks in the UK reviewed trakAxMobile on Friday and the author, Chris Leonard, said ”It’s incredibly easy to use and with the minimum of practice you could creating your own mobile masterpieces in a matter of minutes.”. Gears over at CoolSmartphone also gave the app a run through and he thought ”The interface is clear, concise and easy to start using. Within seconds I’d mixed a video together with some pictures, then added some credits and adjusted the sound.” The Palm-Sound has also been giving trakAxMobile a work out and posting some experimental video mixes - it’s really great to see how others use the app and the resulting creations. You can view the videos on the Palm Sounds blog and he said ”The app is truly amazing”. The Portugese site mobilidades.net have also given a pretty in-depth review of the software with screenshots and explanations. trakAxMobile is also featured on the Spanish-language site Movilae. Thanks to all the sites who’ve featured us and if you’ve created some mixes using trakAxMobile, be sure to let us know as we’d love to share them here on the site. ...

More Reviews & News from trakAxPC
2007-11-23 04:22:00
Just saw that the editors from Soft82.com have awarded trakAxPC their 5/5 Award! One of the really fun things about launching a new site or product, is that once it’s out there, you never know who’s going to pick it up. Sitting in our office here in Dublin (on a rainy winter’s day), it’s great but slightly strange to imagine people in Tokyo, Rio, New York and Amsterdam using our software. A few interesting links have appeared over the last few weeks. DTM Magazine in Japan, which seems to concentrate on fairly high-end, pro software and equipment have also featured trakAxPC on their site. Jake Ludington reviewed trakAxPC on his MediaBlab Blog and said “it’s definitely a great app for working with audio and video without getting overwhelmed by features”. UploadsBlog.com in Italy have featured us. Mr Free Free also gave trakAxPC a really nice review - “TrakAxPC is perfect for making song and video mixes to put on your MySpace or on YouTube.”. SoftSea.com have awarded trakAxPC their ‘Excellent’ Award. You can check out the award by clicking on the award image. These are just a snap shot of the sites that have featured trakAxPC and we would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement - it means alot! ...

Create Ringtones with trakAxMobile
2007-11-21 04:45:00
Over the next couple of weeks, we aim to make as many “Tips and Tricks” videos available. Today we’ve concentrated on ringtones. We think this is a really cool feature of trakAxMobile - take audio content that you have on your device, cut samples, mix it with new loops or recordings and then simply save it off and set it as your ringtone. You can be guaranteed a completely unique ringtone, nobody in the world will have. As devices deal with ringtones differently, this short video will explain the two main methods of setting a ringtone - both are pretty straight-forward, but it helps to see it in action. You can have tons of fun creating ringtones with trakAxMobile - I've taken in samples of my friends speaking/singing, mixed them up with loops and beats using trakAxMobile and then set individual Caller-IDs for friends and family (may sound a little sad, but good fun and great for quickly identifying who's calling - and whether to bother fishing my phone out of my bag!). I've even managed to create a ringtone almost as annoying (catchy?) as 'Crazy Frog' for my boyfriend's ringtone. Here's the quick vid - please visit the forum, if you require any further information, we're always happy to help in any way we can. You may have noticed that there is now a 7-Day Free Trial of trakAxMobile available on the site - so you can now try trakAxMobile out before purchasing and see what you can create....

trakAxMobile Live!
2007-11-16 06:11:00
That’s right - trakAxMobile is now live and available to purchase. If you own a Windows Mobile device, this is one of the most exciting applications you’ll see. We are really delighted and excited to announce its release and believe that this will introduce a completely new way to create and share music and videos directly from your cellphone and mobile device. traxAxMobile brings intuitive and sophisticated creativity features to the mobile environment. Designed for an extensive range of Windows® Mobile devices from leading manufacturers and network providers, this product adds a new dimension to mobile usage. Now not only can you enjoy video and audio entertainment on the move, you can also create it using a multimedia interface that scales perfectly to the small screen. So to put our money where our mouth is, rather than writing a long blog, we've decided to let the application do the talking, so to speak. Below is a video presentation created entirely by trakAxMobile using my PocketPC device, rendered at 'Best Quality' (MPEG4) and then uploaded to the net. Click 'Play' below to view (Music by our favourites, The Gossip). For more information on trakAxMobile see the following links: Screen Captures | Features | Support | Buy trakAxMobile Now For Press Information, please visit our Media Info Page. Really looking forward to hearing your feedback on our product. We're currently in the process of getting all the supported devices online, so if you see your device without a Buy Now Button, check back in a few hours and it will be available. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this application - your efforts are much appreciated!...

trakAxPC - “Download van de week”
2007-11-08 03:57:00
Welcome to all our Dutch visitors! Planet Download have chosen trakAxPC as their “Download of the Week” or as they say in the Netherlands “Download van de week”.  I really wish online translators were a bit better, but from what I can make out, they seem to like it. Another Dutch site “Digitaal Inlichtingenwerk Zeeuwse Bibliotheek” have also featured us today and I take it that “een fantastisch gratis programma” is a good thing! Thanks to both sites for featuring us! ...

Softonic review trakAxPC - “Outstanding”
2007-11-05 11:35:00
A really great way to start the week - I’ve just received in editor’s, Elena Santos, review of trakAxPC on the Softonic site. Elena seems to have given the software a good work out and she says “the program displays a slick interface, perfectly organized in different areas”.  Elena goes onto say “An excellent audio and video mixer, with great tools for advanced users but also easy enough for everyone to use.” You can check out the full review on the Softonic site. Many thanks to Elena and Softonic.com for taking the time to review the software and looking forward to welcoming Softonic users to trakAx.com ...

Snapfiles Award trakAxPC ‘Very Good’
2007-11-03 07:39:00
Snapfiles have awarded trakAxPC their ‘Very Good’ award (4.5 Stars!). What’s great about this award, is that Snapfiles download, test and review every software application submitted to them, so only applications that they believe are worthy receive an award. As you will see from their review, they have tested almost every area of trakAxPC and they say “trakAxPC enables you to create professional music and video mixes without any special skills or technical expertise”. We’ve been working hard for quite a long time on trakAxPC and I have to admit, it’s really nice to get some validation from a site such as Snapfiles. We are taking on board all your comments from the forum - please keep them coming. We hope to include all your suggestions for the next release and to continually improve the functionality of the software. Thanks for all the feedback so far and as always - keep it coming! ...

trakAxPC ‘How to’ Manual in Japanese!
2007-10-30 06:39:00
The people at freesoftdownload.1-yo.com have created a fully translated ‘How to Manual’ for trakaxPC in Japanese. It’s really unbelievably good and the amount of work and effort that has gone into this help resource is astonishing. Although I do not speak Japanese, it seems to be a really excellent resource for any Japanese speaker. They have detailed diagrams for every area of the software and well as notes on how to use the software. Tons of work has gone into this manual and we would like to sincerely thank freesoftdownload.1-yo.com for all their work on this - we can’t believe how detailed and precise it is. There are two areas on the site - an introduction to trakAxPC and a ‘How To’ section. Again, thanks so much to freesoftdownload.1-yo.com for all their work on this and I hope all our Japanese visitors find it useful. ...

trakAxMobile - Example Mix
2007-10-22 05:16:00
In anticipation of the imminent launch of trakAxMobile, Colm, a member of the trakAx.com team, has put together a short video to show you how trakAxMobile can be integrated into your daily life. Borrowing our brother’s kids (Ellie & Hugh), he went off to the park to shoot some footage of them playing soccer. Rather than just having some cute photos on his phone to stay there indefinitely, using trakAxMobile, he can now create some photoslideshows, mix them with some video and text effects, as well as having a master soundtrack playing over this - all made with his phone on the way home from the park.  The resulting mix (see second video below), can then be uploaded to YouTube or Facebook, emailed over to the grandparents, put on his personal blog - wherever you like to share your stuff. Here you can see Colm recording in the footage from the park using his mobile device (HTC P4350). This is the resulting mix using Colm's footage from the park (Photos & Videos). H...

Welcome Japan!
2007-10-19 09:47:00
Windows Forest has featured trakAxPC on their website and we would like to say ‘Konnichiwa’ to all our Japanese visitors and ‘Dōmo arigatō’ for downloading trakAxPC. Many thanks to Shotaro Hasegawa, staff editor at Impress, for featuring trakAxPC and you can read his review (in Japanese) from this link. Unfortunately our Japanese isn’t what is should be! - but it would seem that it is a fairly in-depth review and explains the main features and functionality of the site - hope you enjoy. Check out the (FREE!) trakAxPC software here. If you need great royalty-free loops, beats and samples, visit the trakPacks page and come back next week, to download trakAxMobile. Sayōnara ...

LaptopRockers, purveyors of all things cool, interesting and new in the music technology world, have featured the trakax.com team and the trakAxPC software in their new edition - check it out here. For those who are curious, there is also a photo of Jim and myself (Catriona) - so you can put a face on the anonymous postings here! There is a pretty in-depth discussion on how the trakAxPC beat-matching functionality works (for those into that sort of thing), along with a few anecdotes from Jim. For those of you looking for inspiration, you should check out their (Re)Mix section to see what the pros are up to and what competitions are currently running online.
