Manuals: A Small Effort to Incress the Value of Your Item
2010-05-29 09:40:00
If you're like me, you spend every bit of efficient effort you can on preparing an item for sale so that it will sell and you can ask the maximum. Cleaning, 'staging', packaging, and tagging in a manner that showcases the item at it's best can really increase it's value. I have now found a new step that I will be adding to my consignment sale routine: Attaching the manual. How can I do this? With a baggie and some tape. LOL :P Ok, ok, you're probably like me: Can't find the manual or got it second hand and you never had the manual. Presenting my new favorite consignment sale tool: Manuals Online. This site is so easy to use. Just type your item in the search box, select it and print the Manufacture's Manual. You can use it for everything from LeapFrog Toys to Easy Bake Ovens, Baby Slings to Strollers, Power-Wheels to Rocking Horses. Just think: wouldn't a first time mom be more likely to buy the baby sling that comes with instruction than the one she can't even figure out how to put...

What to do in the Off-Season.
2010-05-22 02:00:00
Whether you live in the north or south, the 2010 spring consignment sale season is pretty much in the history books. I hope it was a very profitable and money saving season for you. If you're like me you're probably taking a bit of a break.  Depending on where you live, the fall children's consignment sale season can start as early as June. So what can you do as a seller during the off-season to help maximize profits and minimize stress? Keep your eyes open. - Yard sale season is in full swing. You can find some great items for resale at great prices. The best items to look for are baby equipment, outdoor toys, and special occasion clothes (Christmas, Christening, ect.). You will usually get higher return on these items. Don't forget to stop by thrift stores and check out the clearance rack at department stores. Keep things organized at home - Of course the best source of items to sell is your kid's own closet. If you add a few small routines to your daily life, you’re ‘CCS...

What do you think? 5/17/10

Each week my goal is to get your opinion on a Children's Consignment Sale related thought. This week: Most sales have a lot of trouble selling the high volume of infant clothes that come in. Most folks get a lot of infant clothing as gifts, or if they are first time parents they refuse to buy used clothes, etc. A lot of sales limit how many infant clothing you can bring, they have a 'first time mom' preview, and a lot of other things to try and increase infant clothing sales. I have recently come across a children's consignment sale that requieres all infant clothing (NB-12mo) to be new WITH tag. What do you think about a sale that requires all infant clothing to be new WITH tags? I would love to shop it! I would love to sell with it! I would reluctantly shop I would reluctantly sell I wouldn't shop I wouldn't sell Doesn't matter to me Use the poll to the right to vote. If you have additional comments post them here: ...

Cleaning my Plate – Part 4 – Decluttering From This is my Life to Live
2010-05-16 12:01:00
by Jill Cleaning my Plate / Decluttering my Life…                                                          …same thing.        There are plenty of different ways to do this.  Quite often the clutter just gets so big that you don’t know where to start. Turns out it doesn’t matter where you start, only that you actually do start.  Me, I started with all those baby items that I kept in the hopes of a baby # 2. Alas, my dream of having a Brady Bunch Family is not meant to be.  Although with all the babysitting I do it sometimes feels like the Brady Bunch household.   Every year, since April of 2008 I have been consigning all of Leon’s cl...

A NOT so wordless Wednesday
2010-05-13 01:23:00
A lot of my fellow bloggers participate in Wordless Wednesdays. Unfortunately, I have a LOT of words for this Wednesday and some pictures. ;) Update on my personal health: having surgery early Monday morning. Hopefully I will have plenty of down time to post more tips and tricks, but unfortunately the "How-to Videos" I promised are on hold for a bit. Now onto my Wednesday: This morning I awoke to find the 50 GAL water heater in our laundry room busted. There was water over everything we had stored in there, our bedroom closet, my consignment sale closet, the main bathroom, the kid's craft closet, and even some in our bedroom. I was overwhelmed! Not only was I unsure where to start, I was also unable to really help with the clean up due to my health issues. My husband started carrying things out of the flooded areas while I wrote an e-mail to our church family for help. By noon, there were 5 people besides myself working to fix the problem. By 4pm we had everything salvaged, the c...

Cinco De Mayo: NOT my favorite day this year!!
2010-05-07 14:31:00
Hello, to all my wonderful readers! This past Wednesday my husband had to rush me to the emergency room with abdominal pains. After 6 hours of having every test, question, poke, and prod done, I was told I have an Ovarian Cyst. One that has been there since I was born, but has gotten so big it is now causing me pain. I am on some heavy medications and have spent the last 2 days unconscious in the bed. If you have tried to e-mail or send me a message on Facebook or twitter, I am so sorry for not replying. I will slowly be getting to these. For the next 2-3 weeks there will be very little hints and trick posted here. There will be news stories, recalls, and featured sales posted, so keep reading. I just wanted to let everyone know I didn't drop off the face of the earth. ;) I'm looking forward to coming back stronger than ever in a few weeks. Until then: Shop, but don't drop!! ...

How to Tag Books
2010-05-02 12:15:00
There is nothing worse than buying a book and when you go to remove the tag, the book is ruined. There are 2 options on how to tag your items depending on the sale and the book: Inside back cover: This will only work if the book does NOT have anything important (Like pictures or the story) on the inside of back cover. Using clear packing tape, tape over the tag (Be careful: Some sales do not want you to tape over the bar-code) and attache it to the inside of the back cover. If the sale removes the tags at check out, then fold a corner of the tape over on it's self to create a 'pull tab' for quick easy removal. Put the book in a bag This works best for books that have pictures or story on all pages, or when you want to sell a group of books together. I use it a lot with small toddler books that I want to sell for $.50 or $.25 each, and the sale's minimum price is $1. Make sure the sale allows bagged books. I've seen a few that do not and I've seen others that require it. ...
