Being a Good Wife
2008-07-01 19:28:59
I recently read an article about how to be a good wife. I'm not yet a wife, but will be very soon. I thought this article was very interesting because the write poses an old guide for being a good wife (from the 50's) and puts his own spin on it to be applied to modern life. THree basic principles for a wife to please her husband -have dinner ready, prepare yourself, and clear away the clutter before your husband arrives from work.I like these three basic principles and live by them. It has certainly worked for me now that I am living with my future husband. I try to make sure I have something for him to eat when he gets home, tidy up our room, and try not to look like I have been doing nothing but laying in the bed watching TV all day. So when he gets home...

Being Bothered
2008-06-30 19:01:41
I woke up a little earlier than usual today because my dad came over to give me some money and let me know that he got his car back from the shop. He had crashed it months ago. Hopefully he won't make the same mistakes in driving and take better care of himself. Although I was grateful that he gave me money, it still bothered me that he came over unannounced. I let him know he should have called first. I hope he remembers next time. He brought my youngest sister with him, which bothered me even more. Now EVERYONE is going to know where we live. Geeze!Last night my sister came over looking for me. She did not find me at home. So my mom came afterward. I was supposed to go to my cousin's house and did not make it. So they took it upon themselves to look for me. I saw my mom walking back hom...

How to Place Your Signature in Blog Posts (Blogger)
2008-06-30 18:40:10
I have been sporting my own signature in my posts almost since I started this blog. Its one of the ways I make my blog unique and interesting. I was inspired by other bloggers who used the same method to sign their posts. Although they never expressed how they made it possible, I figured it out on my own. now I'd like to share that method. :DFirst you need a camera or scanner, a blue or black ball point pen, some blank paper, photo editing software like Picasa (which is free) or Photoshop, and a photo hosting account online like Flickr or Photobucket.1) Write your signature on a blank piece of paper the way you want it to appear in your posts.2) Take a clear photo of your signature or p...

Chilling Out
2008-06-30 18:40:10
Miguel finally got our AC installed yesterday. We came up on a few things and saved a lot. He did a great job of installing it too. This baby is pretty efficient in cooling our room. He just needs to make a few more seals and we're set.Now that we have everything we planned on to live comfortably it is quite a contrast to what it was like when we first moved in here. Before it was having to borrow DVD's from his mom's house to watch on my laptop after he got off work. I had to use an unsecured wireless signal whenever it was available, which wasn't often. I would have to ask our roommates to use their phone for local calls and have to go to my mom's house to be able to make long distance calls. If I wanted to stay cooled off, I would have to stay at his mom's house to enjoy her AC. Now ev...

Total Upgrade
2008-06-30 18:40:10
Yesterday we finally got our cable and internet installed, so our phone line started working as well. We have cable and internet with Time Warner, and phone service with Vonage. We originally had signed up for Time Warner's All the Best package with all three services. We downgraded their digital phone service though because it wasn't as good as what Vonage has to offer for less. We did get a nice promotional offer from Time Warner though. DVR for 2 months free and Showtime free for a year. We can cancel anytime too. In total everything comes out to about the same price of $115 a month. We have high speed internet of about 7MBS and an abundance of channels on TV. So far the only ones calling us is our moms. Go figure. :DThis morning Miguel and I bought an AC for our room. He will be insta...

Little Chihuahuas
2008-06-30 18:40:10
I was chillin today enjoying the AC in my room on this super hot day, when I went out and noticed these two cute little chihuahuas at the door. The white one is a girl and the black one is a boy. I assume this is what Miguel was talking about when he mentioned that Gabriel had taken some dogs. They are bravely taking the heat lying on the door step in the shade. I put out some water for them so they won't get dehydrated.Yesterday Miguel and I got up extra early. He went to take his sister to college while I stayed home and cooked his lunch. We then went to pick up his brother from school and finally to pick up his nephew from school. We came home and took a short nap before he left for work. He came home pretty late but it just means more overtime. So he'll be getting a bigger check. He d...

A Trip to the Dentist
2008-06-30 18:40:10
I had my appointment today to see the dentist about my wisdom teeth coming in. He determined that the upper left wisdom tooth was biting down on my cheek gums because the lower wisdom tooth was coming in. It causes some discomfort, but it would be better to wait until after I give birth to get the upper wisdom tooth taken out. Still, he gave me a form to give to my OB so that he can determine whether extraction is safe right now or not. I think I would only need one taken out.I saw my regular doctor for referrals to an eye and foot doctor. I was given an address and phone number for a podiatrist nearby, but they said that the insoles I need may not be covered by my insurance. So if they are not, I would have to pay out of my pocket, which is a pretty pen...

Projects
2008-06-30 18:40:10
I have started a few of my own little projects recently that I think are enough to handle for now. I started a social network on Ning called Traveling Journals. Open to anyone interested in sending and receiving traveling journals. I also started a blog for my latest attempt at daily photography, Daily Photos. Hopefully this one will stick. I am also working on doing some private journaling online as well as in book form. I thought about keeping a journal on my computer through my Microsoft Word program to print into a book later, but it seems like too much work to manage. I've always wanted to do it, but trying to complete at least one volume before the baby is born is seemingly impossible.I made a mistake yesterday by charging my bank card more than I...

Black Out
2008-06-30 18:40:10
Yesterday Miguel and I did nothing but hang out at his friend Mary's house. He played with the kids doing water balloon battles, even I turned out being a casualty of war. We had a lot of fun until he started getting a little too drunk. We went home late, just to discover that the power to our home was dead. Oddly enough, only some of the homes on our side of the block were out. Just about everyone else around us were not affected by the blackout. We were told that the blackout started around 6pm yesterday, and just ended about 20 minutes ago. Hence this blog post.Miguel couldn't take the heat this morning and took off to his mom's house. He's likely going to return before he leaves for work. I'm surprised I'm even up this early in the day. I usually get up when Miguel does, around 1:30 p...

Watching Wall-E
2008-06-29 18:24:59
I went to the movies with Miguel yesterday to watch Wall-E. It was so awesome. Wall-E is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was hilarious and some scenes made me want to cry. I highly recommend you to go watch it. You'll be so glad you did. Just as I expected, it really lifted my spirits despite what I have experienced over the beginning of the weekend. With Independence Day right around the corner I'm getting excited about the celebrations. Although I won't be able to celebrate with Miguel as I did last year, I won't be missing out. There may be a fireworks show at one of the parks here in the city. I may end up attending that or going with Miguel's friend Mary's family to another fireworks show. Miguel will be working that night, what a bummer. Al...

Drama Burn Out
2008-06-28 00:56:23
Yesterday I had a horrible day. Threats from my family forced me to take action and salvage whatever I had left to hang onto at my old residence. With a completely unreasonable brother and misunderstanding mother, I couldn't help but break down. Yesterday's drama is surely the last I will endure. I'm having a child, I can't deal with any of this kind of stuff in my life any more. Obviously no one seems to care that I could go into early labor because of the crap they throw at me. So I'm not giving a damn either. Their problems are not my problems.I'm cutting myself off because I have greater priorities in my life than to be at the beck and call of unworthy people. A black sheep can certainly turn white. No one deserves all I have to offer but my new family...

Busy Day Off
2008-06-26 03:06:39
Miguel and I woke up really early today, at 6am. Last night he watched movies all night and did not sleep, while I managed to rest only three hours. I totally forgot about sleeping early as well as the rule that I couldn't eat past midnight. I had to have my blood sugar taken at my OB visit today. I had to drink this weird tasting fruit punch medication. It was nasty. Before going to the doctor Miguel took his sister to college and we walked around the plaza where my clinic is located. We got lost for a while driving around because he could not remember which way to go after getting off the freeway.I thought my doctor visit would be quick, but I ended up staying over an hour. I did get to talk to my doctor about a severe pain I had recently and I also heard the baby's heartbeat. It is so ...

The Ups and Downs
2008-06-13 23:21:45
My sister Lena helped me out a lot today. I went over to get my movie ticket that my cousin gave me for my birthday. She couldn't find it on her own. We went to Ross, the bank, the dentist, and kicked it at Jamba until we spotted my mom across the street at a bus stop. My sis came over for a while until my mom made an angry call to make her go back home. Talk about drama for your mama.I will be going to the dentist tomorrow for a general cleaning. Then I have to get the clear from my OB/GYN to get my wisdom teeth checked out. This last one coming in is really bothering me. Miguel and I may go to my cousin Martha's place for a kick back, but it depends on her. Also, we'll be finally getting the AC up and running tomorrow. Yay! No more fan blowing on the laptop.I finally got myself a pair o...

More Baby Stuff
2008-06-09 03:29:43
Yesterday Miguel and I went to a few yard sales part of a community effort in Downey. We stopped at as many as we could to get baby stuff we needed. We managed to buy a bunch of clothes for under $20 and a swing for $30. Quite a deal. I also got a VHS video about yoga during pregnancy. not sure when I will get into it though. We even ate tacos and drank lemonade at one of the yard sales. We did not get to go out like I thought we would. Not even to go to Target to check out the glass baby bottles they have. We did at least wash a load of clothes and I made some Fettuccine Alfredo. And now I finally figure that I get more done while Miguel is at work.Today I went shopping with my sister Lena at Rite Aid. I got a box of Kleenex (cuz I used up the last of it last night drying my tears), an en...

Reasons to Celebrate
2008-06-09 03:24:14
Yesterday I was unable to connect to the internet from my home, so I'm at my mother's place using her connection. :DI went to the doctor's office yesterday for my monthly checkup. I nearly wasn't able to get an ultrasound because the doctor thought she needed to see another patient, but I was able to get one last minute. I just wanted to determine the baby's gender. My instincts were right, I'm having a little girl. Since I have already decided on a name, she will be Lily Jean Solorio. Nice huh? I'm soooo happy that I'm having a girl. I don't think I will want to have any more children after this. Miguel has his boy, and now he's going to have the girl he's always wanted. I'm supposed to go back in three weeks to get my sugar levels checked.Although the pain of having UTI has subsided, t...

Sign Ups and Cancelations
2008-06-09 03:24:14
Today I was going to see about canceling some services I previously signed up for, but did not have the time. I have been signing up and canceling services on the road to find the best deal for what I want. I need phone, high speed internet, and cable service. I began with Verizon DSL, until I found that their service would not work on a competitor's line. Then I signed up for Vonage, at a sweeter than sweet deal that I unfortunately would get in trouble for disclosing. Then I signed up for AT&T DSL. Both Vonage and AT&T have yet to be canceled. The latest I signed up for is Time Warner Cable's All The Best deal. Cable, internet, and phone for about $100 a month. A pretty good deal for better than I expected, until I found out about AT&T's same service bundle for much less. I ...

2008-06-09 03:24:14
After a few attempts at blogging elsewhere and in different ways since I took a break last year, I have decided to return. This time, with a somewhat different style. I want to be more personal in my expression of self with all that I have to offer. So you'll be learning a lot more about me from now on.To give you an update on what I have been up to, a lot has changed. I found out I was pregnant for the first time on April 20th of this year. Already at 3 months. It took so long to take the test because I thought I was having hypothyroidism problems again. After finding out I am with child, Miguel and I became engaged. I'm currently due September 29th of this year. So I'm about 6 months right now.Miguel and I moved in together last month, renting a room not too far from our previous resid...

Frustrations
2008-06-09 03:24:14
I was going to stay at my mom's today to be on the internet. Then I changed my mind to try out the AT&T DSL and Vonage equipments that arrived yesterday. I did and was very disappointed. First the DSL would not connect, so the Vonage would not work. I called to cancel my DSL service and let the company know I was returning the equipment. That was a heck of a hassle in its own. When I tried to call about canceling Vonage, I was too late. I have to wait until Monday to call for that. I'm connecting on the wireless network that's near my home. What a surprise its even working. But hey, only five more days until all the Time Warner Cable services are set up here.I tagged along with Miguel to go pick up his check this morning. He thought he would need to give some people rides, but didn't ...

Blogging No More

The photo in this entry is At The End of The Day. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
In the last few weeks I have become so drained that I decided to put and end to most of my endeavors, including this blog. Since my start in January I have had much to express and share to the online world, until now. There are many transitions taking place in my life right now, all of which warrant more focus on myself.
I really wish I could continue writing inspiring entries for everyone to enjoy, I have simply run out of juice. Blogging has certainly been a fun and adventurous journey. I have learned much and gained many new and loyal friends. My writing has even improved. :D
I won't completely disappear from One Day At a Time though. I will stick around to answer comments on old entries and chat in my message box. I'll check back often to view links as well and make sure to keep the rest of this page updated. If I ever return to posting, it will certainly be here instead of a new...

Song of the Week: Never Win by Fischerspooner
2007-10-21 21:03:25
The photo in this entry is Miss Attitude. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
This week I ma featuring a song I first discovered around this time last year. I wanted to become more familiar with the music by Fischerspooner. I found they have a unique sound of their own and this song surely lets it loose. I enjoy the way that Fischerspooner mixes a rock sound with electronica. Though this song is about some kind of anger or resentment, you can definitely rock out to it. I feel this song has attitude, and perhaps thats why I enjoy it so much.
Here it is, Never Win by Fischerspooner:

Song of the Week: Loose Ends by Imogen Heap
2007-10-13 22:04:34
The photo in this entry is Running After. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
I recently discovered this song. Ever since, I have been playing it a lot. I love the vocals, beat, and cheery sound despite what she sings about. Imogen Heap is my absolute favorite singer. I first began admiring her when I heard her in Frou Frou. Since then she has soared in her career, creating awesome tracks such as this one.
Loose ends is an eclectic track with thought provoking lyrics and a voice that will keep you in awe. I can't get enough of this song and it might even make you want to dance in your seat. Why not take a listen?

The New Changes at One Day At a Time
2007-10-11 22:39:30
The photo in this entry is Busy Bee. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
I have not been blogging much lately because of all the busyness that has been present in my life. Some time has been spent to relax, while the rest was to catch up with things that needed to be done. Since I feel that I can no longer steadily spend my energy blogging about the topics I regularly do, I will be shifting the focus of my blog. I think its better than quitting blogging altogether.
The Loaded Questions and Song of the Week will continue, but other written posts will not. I will go back to daily posting as well, but this time I will be posting the progress of my Daily Photos project, which starts today. Every single day I will take a photo and post it here for everyone's viewing pleasure. The format for the weekly features will remain unchanged, but the Daily Photos posts will be the difference.
It has been a great journey blogging my heart out to the public and learning all that I have....
