Another broken tree branch takes another life. This time round it was an unlucky Vietnamese man (foreign talent!?). He was in his 20s and was instantly killed on the spot by the evil branch. Just over two weeks ago a woman was killed and two of her friends injured, when a raintree in the Bukit Batok Nature Reserve collapsed on them. On the same day, a Singaporean man died in Mount Ophir in Johor, when a tree fell on him. And five days later, another man died in the same way, also on Mount Ophir. PRICES of anime DVDs here are the world’s lowest, but fans of these Japanese animated cartoons prefer to get them online - for free.
Now they may land in the soup because a crackdown has been launched, and they are the targets for downloading these English-subtitled cartoons through file-sharing networks.
Local anime distributor Odex, which brings in the DVDs from Japan, has sent out letters to culprits it has identified as having downloaded these ‘fansubs’ using the Internet and peer-to-peer systems like BitTorrent.

PUTRAJAYA - A MALAY woman who converted from Islam to Christianity nine years ago lost her legal battle yesterday to have ‘Islam’ deleted from her identity card.
In a test case for religious freedom in Malaysia, the Federal Court rejected Ms Lina Joy’s appeal in a two-one majority decision.
Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, who delivered the main judgment, said people cannot join and leave a religion according to their whims and fancies.
‘They have to follow the requirements of their religion,’ he said to a courtroom packed with lawyers and observers from Muslim non-governmental groups.
Islam, he said, has its own jurisprudence on apostasy.
