The problem with MAN
2007-06-02 00:59:13
In case you wondered, and are male - these are the rules we abide by. If you are a girl reading this, then you can just refresh your memory. MEN RULES: Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules! Please note… these are all numbered “1″ ON PURPOSE! 1. Men are NOT mind readers. 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 1. Sunday sports. It’s like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be. 1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way. 1. Crying is blackmail. 1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it! 1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question. 1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we d...

Be careful of the FLU season now
2007-06-01 00:05:54
The Ministry of Health (MOH) says Singaporeans can expect a seasonal surge in flu every year from April to July, and November to January. Better protect yourself. Stay away from sick people, whether mentally or physically. Don’t share your drinks or utensils with anyone, including your maids. Don’t stay up too late at night, and don’t sleep until too late in the morning....

Man killed by fallen branch near Tree Top Walk
2007-06-01 00:01:57
Another broken tree branch takes another life. This time round it was an unlucky Vietnamese man (foreign talent!?). He was in his 20s and was instantly killed on the spot by the evil branch. Just over two weeks ago a woman was killed and two of her friends injured, when a raintree in the Bukit Batok Nature Reserve collapsed on them. On the same day, a Singaporean man died in Mount Ophir in Johor, when a tree fell on him. And five days later, another man died in the same way, also on Mount Ophir. Hmmm, better stay away from trees this rainy season....

Getting anime illegally online? Beware
2007-05-31 23:49:03
PRICES of anime DVDs here are the world’s lowest, but fans of these Japanese animated cartoons prefer to get them online - for free. Now they may land in the soup because a crackdown has been launched, and they are the targets for downloading these English-subtitled cartoons through file-sharing networks. Local anime distributor Odex, which brings in the DVDs from Japan, has sent out letters to culprits it has identified as having downloaded these ‘fansubs’ using the Internet and peer-to-peer systems like BitTorrent. ‘Fansubs’ are the works subtitled by bilingual fans of anime as a service to the community of non-Japanese-speaking anime fans. -ST...

Singapore’s Latest Wanted Man
2007-05-31 04:14:58
RICHARD Yong - convicted of negligence in connection with the National Kidney Foundation scandal - is uncontactable. This could be significant as the former NKF chairman left the country despite being declared a bankrupt on May 16 for failing to pay nearly $1million to the charity after losing a civil suit earlier this year. It is an offence for a bankrupt to travel out of Singapore without permission from the Official Assignee, with offenders facing up to two years in jail and a maximum $10,000 fine. Durai where are you?...

2007-05-31 03:29:35
Mediacorp very kind ah! They believe in giving people a second chance and decided not take any further action against Christopher, apart from suspending his contract for the time being. This means that Lee will still probably be an actor after serving his jail. Lucky him, if not god knows what jobs he can do after that....

No Religious Freedom in Malaysia
2007-05-31 03:12:32
What is this? You cannot choose your mum and dad, you cannot choose your looks, now you cannot choose your religion. Woman loses bid to drop ‘Islam’ from IC Chief Justice says people cannot join and leave a religion as they wish By Carolyn Hong PUTRAJAYA - A MALAY woman who converted from Islam to Christianity nine years ago lost her legal battle yesterday to have ‘Islam’ deleted from her identity card. In a test case for religious freedom in Malaysia, the Federal Court rejected Ms Lina Joy’s appeal in a two-one majority decision. Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, who delivered the main judgment, said people cannot join and leave a religion according to their whims and fancies. ‘They have to follow the requirements of their religion,’ he said to a courtroom packed with lawyers and observers from Muslim non-governmental groups. Islam, he said, has its own jurisprudence on apostasy. The lawyer for Ms Lina, who was not in court, ...

Why befriend strangers on the Internet?
2007-05-28 01:00:30
Pointers to note: 1. Make use of friends to know more friends. 2. Get to know friends the easy way out. 3. Selective befriending. May 28, 2007 Why befriend strangers on the Internet? Online friend-adding services have warped the true concept of friendship By Tessa Wong THERE is this guy called Tom and he is my friend. The trouble is, I have never spoken to him…I do not know what he likes or where he is from. I have never even met him. In other words, he is a perfect stranger. But on MySpace, Tom Andersen is one of my 22 friends on the social networking website. MySpace Tom, which the website’s founder is better known as, is the ‘default friend’ which all users start with before they embark on wanton ‘friend-adding’ rampages on the network. Nowadays, online social networking seems to be nothing more than trawling through a galaxy of profile pages, sending coy introductory messages to strangers, and attempting to add them as one’s ‘friends...

The En bloc “Investors”
2007-05-27 05:44:36
THEY call themselves ‘investors’, but property agents prefer to label them ’speculators’. Residents, rather less politely, describe them as ‘agitators’. The en bloc fever has spawned a small but growing number of entrepreneurs who sniff out old property developments and then gun for a collective sale. They wheedle their way onto estate sale committees and fight to push a sale through, in the hope of pocketing some good money in these good times. -ST...

Get off the roads Singapore cyclists
2007-05-27 04:40:29
This is a warning to all cyclists in Singapore. Get off the roads, and stay in the pavement or whatever cycling tracks you can find. Singapore roads are NOT cyclist-friendly! You risk getting knocked down, killed, rubbed, blown away by passing and speeding vehicles. You have no metal, rubbers, plastics to cover you except for that super thin uniform that looks like you’re going swimming. Not to say that it’s even more dangerous in the evening when you don’t have any lights with you on that bicycle....

2007-05-27 01:58:56

You can report the taxi driver to LTA at 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255582) and give the taxi’s licence plate number, date, time and a brief account of the incident....

Why it’s good to wake up early
2007-05-27 00:59:06
Now, let me first say that if you are a night owl, and that works for you, I think that’s great. There’s no reason to change, especially if you’re happy with it. But for me, switching from being a night owl to an early riser (and yes, it is possible) has been a godsend. It has helped me in so many ways that I’d never go back. Here are just a few: 1. Greet the day. I love being able to get up, and greet a wonderful new day. I suggest creating a morning ritual that includes saying thanks for your blessings. I’m inspired by the Dalai Lama, who said, ” Everyday, think as you wake up, ‘today I am fortunate to have woken up, I am alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others, I am going to benefit others as much ...

Champions League Final - AC Milan vs Liverpool
2007-05-23 16:17:52
Champions League Final AC Milan vs Liverpool Nothing bigger: The biggest match of the season anywhere in the world, as Italian giants AC Milan take on England’s most successful team throughout history and 2005 winners Liverpool. This is going to be one hell of a tussle, and whatever the outcome, viewers everywhere are promised top quality football from two footballing sides - that means no boring defensive “football” like that of Chelsea, and certainly no messy, unorganised football like that of Bayern Munich this season. United demolition: It is no surprise that AC Milan come into this match as favourites to win in regular time. AC Milan have been immensely impressive in Europe this season, as they prevented an all-English final by totally destroying Manchester United at the San Siro. Manchester United’s hope of going to Italy and getting a mere draw to qualify evaporated as early as the end of the first half, when Kaka and Seedorf capped Milan’s total d...

UNSW Asia closes down barely just 3 months
2007-05-23 16:03:36
What a flop this is! Just barely 3 months, this university had to close down because of “financial difficulties”. Poor UNSW grads-to-be now have to consider joining the rest to go SIM. - With the new campus already built, they can develop it into the next old changi hospital! - Our “Education Hub” status can be called Education Pub. Tiger beer? - Someone picked the wrong choice even after considering other universities in Europe, the United States and Australia....

Speed Reading
2007-05-23 00:04:40
In today’s Information Age, reading is now a prerequisite for success in life. In fact, many presidents, including Kennedy, have required their staff to take speed reading lessons. Brian Tracy, a best-selling author, points out that just 1 hour per day of reading will make you an international expert in your chosen field within 7 years. If you’re looking to increase your learning rate while decreasing your effort, speed reading is a method you should consider studying. By simply learning how to process information at a more rapid rate, you’re not only going to be able to move through books more quickly, but you will also be able to comprehend and process more of what you have read. Speed reading is an excellent skill that can be used in your workplace, your home life, as well as your personal hobbies. The Brain’s Power Speed reading actually began as part of military training to identify enemy war planes. Pilots used a pacing tool called a tachistoscope that flashed images befo...

Why We Procrastinate
2007-05-22 18:17:35
Have you ever spent time thinking about a task you need to tackle but keep putting off, then spend time telling yourself you just must get started and wondering when you will start it, and then feeling guilty because you are working on other tasks instead. Yet this one keeps hanging over your head. If this sounds familiar, you may be one of the many people who procrastinate, and procrastination is probably the biggest time waster. Putting off the inevitable, sometimes until a deadline is staring you in the face, causes the highest stress level, and results in managing time by crises. There are many reasons why people procrastinate. For some it happens occasionally under specific circumstances, and for others, it is a way of life. Here we will explore a few of the reasons behind why people procrastinate. 1. Poor work habits. These people procrastinate on everything. They are so far behind that they are constantly trying to keep up with yesterday. Boy, talk about high stress!! Their resp...

Interesting ways to die
2007-05-22 17:35:43
20. Alex Mijtus, 36 years old, was killed by his wife, armed with a 20 inch long vibrator. Mrs Mijtus had had enough of her husband’s strange sex practices and one night during a prolonged period of “fun” she snapped, pushing all 20 inches of the vibrator into Alex’s anus until it ruptured several internal organs and caused severe bleeding. 19. Debby Mills-Newbroughton, 99 years old, was killed as she crossed the road. She was to turn 100 the next day but, crossing the road with her daughter to go to her own birthday party, her wheel chair was hit by the truck delivering her birthday cake. 18. Peter Stone, 42 years old, was murdered by his eight year old daughter, who he had just sent to her room with no dinner. Young Samantha Stone felt that if she couldn’t have dinner no one should, and she promptly inserted 72 rat poison tablets into her father’s coffee as he prepared dinner. The victim took one sip pnd promptly collapsed (Samantha Stone was given...

5 Female Species
2007-05-20 09:04:08
5 Female Species The Sex Kitten, The Cute Cute, The Good Buddy, The Brain & The Little Princess This is not to teach you the tricks of picking up chicks, but to allow you to understand what goes on behind whatever they are thinking. Listed are also some insights that men such as us should have. I am no expert at picking up girls, in fact, all these things I am about to tell you are from my personal experiences and observations with friends. If you are reading this, then you must have nothing better to do or have not been on a date since you started watching Spin, which by the way should be cancelled along with Under One Roof. To maximise reading pleasure, you should be male, in your 20s and can relate to Chandler from Friends - before he started bonking Monica. Anyway, let’s get started with the chick info: The Sex Kitten Who is a Sex Kitten? Good question. A Sex Kitten is someone who is really hot in the office, or someone you just saw sipping Vodka Ribena at a club. Usually...

Obesity may make you stupid
2007-05-20 02:03:02
This report suggest that new parents today should stop dreaming about having babies that are “white white fat fat”, unless you want them to grow up becoming more stupid than the rest. Then again Professor Ho is saying that it’s basically people that are condemning these fat kids that’s why they are becoming stupid. Now if you think you’re fat you maybe fat, if others say you’re fat, it means you’re really fat!...

FA Cup final: Chelsea vs Man United
2007-05-19 11:52:36
Chelsea have a number of injury worries going into Saturday’s final. Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack are definitely out, having taken themselves off for respective hernia and ankle operations, but how much of a negative impact that will actually have on the team is up for debate. Of more concern is the fitness of centre-back Ricardo Carvalho, who has been one of the Blues’ best players this season. The Portuguese has damaged knee ligaments and has only a ‘one percent’ chance of playing according to manager Jose Mourinho, who must decide whether to play defender Khalid Boulahrouz or midfielder Michael Essien alongside skipper John Terry at the heart of the defence. Boulahrouz has proven something of a liability this season and Essien has been drafted in as an emergency centre-back on previous occasions, but the latter option deprives Chelsea’s midfield of one of their most effective operators. Winger Arjen Robben may be able to play some part in the f...
