world music nights
2008-07-19 09:59:00
the "night" progressed very slowly ,first they didn't let us in until 7:15 and the first show which was an Electronic Music Duo from Switzerland didn't start till 8:00 pm or so and althoughI have been always interested in electronic music ,I found it very expermental and abstract and the audience were unmoved also , agroup of young people besides me decided to have their own party and started making jokes and just wondering what are those ppl doing ,lol ,actually at the end they said that one equipment was somehow broken and thanked us for listening to their expermental music which none of us grasped, lol.but then came the action when the barrels started to be arranged on the theatre and ppl got curious ,some have an idea about the show ,but I believe no one...

Ihtifaleih story
2008-07-06 06:28:00
in the begining of this year I wrote a post about the expectations for this year Damascus Capital of Arab 2008 festivity to enhance the cultural vitality and provide the public with a wide range of cultural and artistic activities .at first I didn't have interest in the many things that were going on as part of the activities orgnized in the framework of Damascus Capital of Arab Culture ,maybe i haven't time ,or nothing has catched my attention.I started following the website of the Ihtifaleih regularly lately ,and finally I found what I am looking for ,the world music nights, which will include performances by well-known artists from around the globe .I think it is spectacular to have a stage in Damascus citadel that will host famous artists of such a diverse background .for the complete p...

2008-07-02 04:37:00
as part of the continuing festivities of the flowers exhibition in Tishreen park Syrian band ANAS&FRIENDS performed on stage to an audience that was really enthusiastic and full of life .as i arrived to the Park from its main entrance ,I was heading north for the park's theatre ,but then I noticed a stage setup just as you enter the Park ,anyway I continued walking just to have an idea about the flowers exhibition and there was lot of people and the atmosphere was nice and eventually a big crowd had gathered for the concert. I believe that this promising talent is the future of Syrian music and it have to be supported and I applaud all efforts to provide young singers with a platform to present their music and share i...

NGOs and the role of Syrian expatriates
2008-06-11 12:08:00
Taking a serious look at the reality of things we find that there is a big gap that need to be bridged between ambition and the reality of Syrian civil society ,the role of which is essential for the development and advancement of any aspect of society life. That is more so in the case of the need to bring together the prominent Syrian expatriate community ,creating paths of communication and strengthening the link between them and their homeland. For this reason NOSSTIA has emerged as a forward-looking initiative to establish a forum to promote and encourage the exchange of expertise and knowledge between the Syrian scientific community at home and abroad .The major event organized by NOSSTIA is the International Conference on Information & Communication Technology ICTTA ,which I had ...

those photos were taken of AlBaramkeh garden which was opened recently ,after many months of neglect to this space finally it have a beautiful finish ,I took those photos because actually I was surprised of how beautiful it turned out to be and I used to pass by this area a lot in the past before that but the other day and after a long time not going near that area I was happy to see a good step to restore some of the green zone to the city which it greatly needs, and so I wanted to share with you ....

Freedom to Tariq
2008-05-15 08:55:00
No matter how hard one tries to stay away from whatever happens around him in this world ,it is impossible to maintain complete disattachment from every thing and to stay unaffected going through your ordinary life as usual and that is more true when you have a cause that you believe in and is just and rightful.I am very sorry to learn about the verdict against Syrian blogger tariq Bayassi who was sentenced to three years in prison after a fabricated accusation and hollow trial .following is a statement by Syrian bloggers to protest this unfair and unacceptable sentenceStatement of (The Syrian Bloggers) concerning the sentencing of the Syrianblogger (Tariq Bayasi) to three years in prison. After his arrest on 7 July 2007 on charges of criticizing the security services, and after ten months ...

ICTTA 08 - my personal experience
2008-04-10 13:31:00
originally I wanted to document my participation in ICTTA 08 by writing a diary ,but I hadn't the time to do that because they made us do things all the time ,and I am not bothered at all ,in fact I am happy to see the organizational part of the conference and to have a first hand look at how things function.of course not every things went smoothly ,but trying to make the best of the time in the conference was the guiding motive ,meeting new people and learning about new ideas and to broaden one's knowledge in his field.today the conference concluded and while some of the papers presented were too specialized for me to understand and some not that much interesting ,I decided today to attend sessions that are rather unconventional meaning that they don't relate to my field of study and it w...

ICTTA 08
2008-03-29 12:47:00
I have to write this post before 8pm because of EARTHHOUR so there is a lot of pressure ..ok ,so the big huge event for all of us interested in ICT will be taking place on 7 of April in Damascus,it is the International Conference on Information & Communication Technologies .this is a great event to be held in Syria which put us on the map concerning this domain .on Wednesday a professor giving us a lecture draw our attention to the importance of participating in this event ,and ordinary students like us can make it to the conference by doing voluntary work in exchange to a pass to enter the conference which otherwise is for registered scholars who have to pay money to present their papers ,so I have contacted NOSTIA the sponsors of this event and hopefully I'll be able to attendok my t...

clickstream
2008-03-17 10:20:00
I always thought I had a way with words ,and no I don't use that for writing good quality posts ,but for choosing funny combinations to look for weird photos and interesting stuff online ,for example if I ask you what is the thing that is blue ,sleek and useless you may answer, an empty can of pepsi ,but use that to search for mobile phones and you'll get a whole other take on things! ,and one can't help but notice the great lengths designers go to to market their products especially in the time when your new piece of equipment will be outdated after only six months or so .I have been surfing the net and hopping from link to another for something interesting ,and to change my nooksurfer statues(you know ,somebody who only visit a small number of sites) ,I have read about innovation and the...

today reading in my favorite aggregator Qwaider planet ,and it was all about Jordan ,as it is blogging about Jordan day ,and the response was very great to Qwaider's idea to start this interesting initiative .the posts I read were informative and interesting ,I posted comments on some of the posts then I thought I write my own post .I really believe in the contribution the blogsphere is making in bringing people together and bridging the gap between cultures ,I have learned so much about so many countries and cultures and met very good friends through blogging ,I have been introduced to my favorite singer Lena Chamamyan through a post I have read .I have never been to Jordan ,I thought about traveling to Amman and now more than any time I am more motivated to do so . broken-fixed
2008-03-11 05:50:00
In a blink of an eye you can realize great facts and with one simple idea you can flip things around ,I am really amazed by this ;whether you follow a concrete and predefined system to regulate your life and guide you through your daily routine or you prefer to go through life and living every moment ,every thing can change in one moment ,when an idea occurs to you ,or you stumble upon an object or you open a website and find some news and you decide to do something about it and act on what you have found .sometimes I feel dejected and sad and with one positive thought my day will take very different course ,with time I have come to surrounding my self with the things and people who are most likely to generate interesting initiatives and colorful ideas ,that make it easier to have that...

My debut in filmmaking
2008-03-06 10:09:00
Ok,that was an overstatement ,but as the dox-box film festival drew to an end ,I was intrigued by the art of documentary films and filmmaking in general, and as I don't have the necessary requirements to produce a documentary or any other kind of film ,I thought I try a simple thing so I edited this clip I had captured before (and couldn't upload because it was very big) ,using Microsoft Movie Maker and made this clip which I think is relevant for two reasons ,the obvious one is that it talks about ending war ,and with the current situation in the region it is even more important to stress mutual understating and acceptance of the other side, the second reason is that I wanted to give an alternative image and highlight sharing cultural and social issues and conveying a message through arti...

2008-02-20 07:19:00
today is the last day of the dox-box film festival that has in my opinion introduced this magnificent art to a large Syrian audience for the first time in a comprehensive and interesting way and from my observations there is an a void that has been partly filled in that regard ,and the reaction from the public was fairly positive and the response has shown that there is a great potential for this art to flourish and take off in Syria and I applaud the organizers who are behind this initiative and I hope it becomes an annual rendezvous for documentary lovers .the seminars that were held give a much needed insight into this great art ,for my part I am interested in the relationship between new technologies and the documentary filmmaking as the new medium of the internet and video sharing can...

The Statement of the Syrian Bloggers to release the blogger Tariq Biasi
2008-02-10 06:28:00
It is stated in the introduction of the Syrian Constitution: “The freedom of the country is only protected by free citizens”.The Article 28 in the constitution also dictates that: “Every charged person is innocent until he is convicted by a final court judgement”.On the seventh day of July in 2007, the security authorities asked Tariq Biasi (23 years old) to go to the security branch of Tartus to answer few questions concerning a comment he posted in an Arab discussion forum online. And up to this moment Tariq still behind bars without a trial.Tariq, who is suffering from liver diseases, still detained in the Palestine Branch in Damascus and it is not permitted to his family to visit him or even know anything about him, despite their multiple attempts with the security authorities.M...

on being a concerned citizen
2007-12-21 13:40:00
so what it means to be a concerned citizen and what are the implications that comes with playing an active part (or trying to play for that matter) in public life, let it be participating in events and gatherings to raise awareness of important issues or spearheading and leading a process that will lead eventually to change or trying to bridge a gap that you perceive is existent ,organizing fund raising events or campaigns for the good of societyboycotting a product or an organization because you think it it is working in the wrong direction or working for the wrong reasons, or simply thanking a cop for doing his duty well,I won't say that I have much experience in all the aforementioned deeds ,however from my little and humble experience and what I gleane...

praise or criticism
2007-12-09 08:35:00
for which you give more consideration, do you think more about a praising comment or a criticism ,you can simply look at it this way :count the number of good or bad comments ,so if for every ten people who praise you you receive on bad opinion ,that means that you are on the right trackok ,so that wasn't very serious ; you still should think about the negative comment, and that in order to correct any mistakes that maybe pointed out to you by a loyal friend , but that isn't the case always , often we get negative opinion from people who are strangers or who we don't get along with well ,so the point is to select the person that you trust and consider his opinion and discard the rest .so the solution is : think about positive remarks first and spend a 50% m...

message
2007-11-14 07:53:00
I have been thinking a lot lately about the situation in the ME and particularly in Lebanon and I have reached the conclusion that we have an ethical responsibility towards our Lebanese brothers ,as it is our regime that is giving them a hard time and interfering in their domestic affairs let alone the series of assassinations that took place ,and the constant attempts to sabotage the legitimate Lebanese government and I'd like to ask if the Syrian regime cares so much about legitimacy and what people think why they stay in power while they know they have no public support and why don't they let ppl speak their minds without intimidation and then we can have a just election and we will see if Bashar AlAssad gets 97% .I'd like to send a message of support and solidarity with the Lebanese pe...

the inevitable move!
2007-11-14 06:52:00
whats that you say ,well it is moving from blogger to facebook ,and thats why I've been absent lately ,ok, that's not 100% true ,I was very busy with many things especially my graduation project, and I have been attending as usual many events and going to places ,and I was upset that I couldn't write about it,however I did find time to register in Facebook and it is all my work to blame for that (which I am planning to quit to focus on my study)and there are two reasons ,one that i couldn't log in the net except from my work desktop so i can't enter blogspot.com as it is banned and also because my working mates were all excited and stuff and meeting new pple on the site which drew me to it ,and to tell u the truth I like the buzz that the site generates and I noticed there are many from Syr...

True or False
2007-09-27 09:20:00
The Syrian soap operas (drama series) this year :- tackle new issues, and deal with interesting subjects.-very contemporary and relate to the actual reality of the society.-has creative and unique vision.-raise awareness of important issues or promote worthy causes.-employ new directing techniques and acting styles.-appeals to educated section of the society.I think that Syrian drama scores moderately on those point ,what do you think??...

taking things too far
2007-09-24 11:54:00
at the beginning a simple idea occurs to you ,and then you start to add new aspects and details and link it with other ideas til it becomes a big thing, that little thought evolves into a major and elaborated plan and you find yourself thinking about so many things and you have made a whole large project which you have to start executing right now in order to reach the results and reap the fruits.but in order to not become absorbed in details you have to concentrate on the main idea , the catch is to know when to stop before things will become very complicated and extensive ,sometimes you should be direct and get to the point and focus on things that can be practical to carry out ,and while you are considering all that you remember that your original idea is some daydreaming unrealistic wis...

blogging in style
2007-09-23 12:33:00
I am going to talk about stylistics .. that is blogging style, when reading posts ,some will stand out , of course not all posts one writes are going to be in the spotlight , but in general there are some which will catch the attention of readers , also there is a consistent style that every one has which will manifest in their way of phrasing their thoughts and writings and expressing themselves ,and if you like the blog of somebody that means you like his/her style ,and I have noticed that some blogs are similar in terms of writing style and some differ very much.one another thing that really is important for me is the aesthetics in blogging ,of which certainly views will differ greatly between people and bloggers as with any form of activity that is s...

end of summer post
2007-09-21 09:06:00
I thought of writing a recap of the activities I did in the summer and what I achieved ,nevertheless it seems that my motivation and good luck is continuing as I hopedas I wrote in a previous post I decided to make the most of my time and so had many undertakings and actually I have accomplished quite a lotI finished my training at the (STE) and received a certificate ,also I have started working after signing a contract for a full year ,and as for my personal life ,well, my contact list of numbers is growing steadily and hopefully will keep on growing ,so there are great chances that one finds if he/she started acting and making things happen ,and that is true because as with the beginning of the school year I find that there are lots of things to do and ...

travelling for peace
2007-09-18 09:27:00
Giordano and Luca are two Italians who had a great idea : travelling around the countries of the Mediterranean to spread the message of peace and harmony with a simple gesture ..a hug.meeting with Giordano and Luca was really great and we spent a wonderful time touring Damascus and showing them the beauty of the city and the many landmarks, and great sites in Damascus. It all began when I read a post they put on the FreeHugsCampaign on line and then I visited the website of this great initiative where I read about the goals and origin of this trip and for my good luck they were touring Syria in this time ,I immediately contacted them and they wrote back very glad that my e-mail came just as they were staying in Damascus .for a full day we visited many p...

the next big thing
2007-09-15 13:38:00
source:GSMarenathat is the next big thing that I am going to purchase ,actually when I put it like that it appears as if I am buying expensive stuff all the time ,so impressive ,hehe ,but the truth is the last major thing I bought was my digital camera and that was long time ago and honstly I don't think I would make use of anything more than that camera, not even a cell phone ,and why is that ,well ,maybe because I don't like the idea of holding something with me wherever I go and worrying about paying for cards all t...

The internet in Syria
2007-09-13 09:16:00
after having my laptop fixed, (and losing all the data I had on my Hard disk including all my photos and videos) I got to log in the Internet and have a peaceful surfing which turned out to not be so peaceful after all! I noticed there is now more blocked sites including YouTube.com along side a bunch of websites concerned with human rights in Syria not to mention blogspot.com which is banned from long time ago (although it opened for some time on certain ISPs).apparently the STE(Syrian Telecommunication Establishment) is tightening its grip on freedom more than any time before .That ,and the marvelous speed and state of connection which is remarkable!actually the minister of Telecommunication admitted the well-known bad ...
