sarah palin makes sense.
2008-09-04 07:49:04
did you hear her republican vice presidential nomination acceptance speech? I did. and she makes sense. I like barack obama's speech. he has charisma, and style. but there is no way he can come true with all the promises that he presented in his democratic presidential nomination acceptance speech.there is no way.and frankly, like sarah palin pointed out, WHY is obama telling the pro-illegals that he supports illegal immigration in one place. AND then, telling americans in another city that he doesn't?I don't like mccain because he like obama have verbally said they support illegal immigration. they both want to grant amnesty to the illegals.and that is why I am not voting.BUT now after hearing sarah palin's speech, if I were voting, I would go with mccain.the difference between oba...

people, I am packed and ready to go. what more need I say? to me, china is a new door to be opened. a whole new adventure. in the early part of this adventure, I see myself exploring guangzhou, shenzhen, hong kong, macao, and a whole host of other places all within an hour train ride of where I will be staying.there will be my parents home town. the various universities. the restaurants ..of course, and then, there will be all the new nitespots that I will check out.will I find another "lobby" or "parking lot" like here in bangkok? who knows?life is short, people. stay focused and get those happy memories while you still can.over and out....

blogger blocked in thailand.
2008-09-04 04:45:16
it appears that http://www.blogger.com/ has been blocked in thailand. I have tried to access it on 2 separate computers with no success. it could be that only my isp is blocking it. but I won't know until I go try at one of the neighborhood internet cafes.how long this blocking is going to exist? I don't know.why it is even happening? another good question that I don't have the answer to. I may have to subscribe to a some proxy service on a regular basis to bypass this problem in the future...the latest....

have you heard of bangkokpundit?
2008-09-04 04:44:19
a lot of things have been happening in thailand lately. if you want a source that gives you a combined review from a number of media sources including the bangkokpost, the nation, and the asian times, check out the bangkokpundit bloghttp://bangkokpundit.blogspot.com/changing the subject...didn't go to the lobby tonight. just felt a little tired. got a call from skyman. he's in town. we're thinking of meeting up tomorrow night.have you ever gotten phone calls from people who don't respond when you answer the call? in the space of about 3 hours, I received like 20 calls. don't know who it is. whether it's a number of people or what. after the first 4 calls where the caller doesn't say anything, I don't even bother to answer anymore. ..just hang up.could it be? I have a secret admirer?only th...

blogger is back.
2008-09-04 01:12:47
the time is about 8pm. I woke up just now from a nap. got a call from skyman. yesterday, he invited me for a burger, and I guess he thought we would meet at around 7pm. my take on it was that we would meet around 10pm thereabouts since that is my normal time to go the lobby. oh well, a misunderstanding.so, now I'm up. did a check on my email. and then, decided to try blogger. AND was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not blocked anymore. thank god.I can now report like before without having to resort to using a proxy. using a proxy enables me to bypass the blocking. but it slows down everything.anyway, so what did I do earlier today, you ask?mostly chores in preparation for my trip to china. paid the rent. paid the internet. loads of laundry. packing up. almost there.took a break fro...

10 YEARS ANNIVERSARY!!!!
2008-09-03 21:07:02
get this, everybody. ..I've been living in bangkok, thailand for 10 years now. and I am starting on my 11th year.last night in the lobby, I had a great time. got a couple of calls from the states. one from gomer pyle, the other from the sarge. met up with skyman for some hanging out time in the lobby and the parking lot. long time jesse, the handsome man, brian piccolo, the miner, clint eastwood, the guru, timberwolf, bronson, the analog man, the bookkeeper, jacques cousteau, hawaiian bill, richie rich, honda, gorgeous, the stunner, lady puu, and snow white all came by to join us.it was a board meeting.guess what? even barnaby made an appearance. as is his normal routine, he came by without an advance notice. a total surprise.yes, had a great time in the lobby last night. EVEN with all the...

last night in the lobby.
2008-09-01 23:08:41
I got to the lobby last night at around 10pm. the temperature outside was warm and humid. it was the type of humidity that drains you of energy. ugh! while sitting in the softseats, a number of lounge lizards came by including the handsome man. we all talked at length. nobody paid much attention to the political undercurrent in thailand. you just read the news, and put it aside.when we all decided to go outside to oogle the scene, it was pretty much an average night.I left the scene at around 2:30am. went over to subway to get their daily special. today, it was spicy italian. after satisfying my hunger, I went to the bus stop to hop on a bus to go home. it started to rain while I waited. (an omen of things to come?) got home at around 4:15am.lounge lizards out and about include...

bangkok - state of emergency.
2008-09-01 22:44:56
I woke up today at around 8:30am bangkok time. for some reason, I decided to login to the internet. even before taking a shower, or getting something to eat, I decided to login into the internet and check my email and ...read the online newspapers like I usually do.lo and behold. I saw the headlines in the bangkok post - STATE OF EMERGENCY.talk about a rude awakening.it's about 10:30am now. I just ate my breakfast. and was about to take a shower. but before I did so, I thought to see what the latest with the SOE was. and discovered that I couldn't access the online bangkok post anymore.I decided to check on the online nation (another newspaper in thailand). and was able to get access to it. ..for how long I don't know.suffice to say... something is up. just what is going on, I d...

rumors about obama.
2008-08-30 14:57:28
well, I didn't make it to the lobby tonight. I fell asleep and woke up too late to go.since I didn't make it to the lobby, I decided to do some research on obama. what I found out is somewhat interesting.did you know that there is a rumor going around about obama saying that - he may not be an "natural born american citizen"?for those of you who don't know, you are required to be a "natural born american citizen" to be eligible to become the president of the united states.could it be true?here are links on the story. check it out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd5gm8XKv_whttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXNLLAk9gek&feature=relatedhttp://obama.webonsites.com/...

many lounge lizards out and about...
2008-08-30 00:36:39
I got to the lobby at around 10pm last night. being the end of the month, I half expected more activity there. and sure enough, I wasn't disappointed.the first person I spied when I entered the lobby was captain kirk. he just got back from indonesia. as it were, he was tired. so, we talked for perhaps 15 minutes before he left.I then got into a heated discussion with brian piccolo with the handsome man overlooking everything. brian piccolo is having women problems. ..if you know what I mean.anyway, I took a break from that discussion because the analog man asked me over to his niche in the lobby. he introduced me to some new guy. I will call him captain marvel. he looks like the hero type. captain marvel is looking for a place to stay in bangkok. I introduce him to the following websites.....

obama.
2008-08-28 22:59:28
I just finished listening to obama do his presidential nomination acceptance speak. so, what did I think about it, you ask?if I were voting, I would vote for him. he is a leader. all through the campaign in the last 6 months or so, I seem to get the feeling that he wasn't representing americans. but this speech that he just finished giving seems to be in agreement with most of what I believe in.no to illegal immigration. no to jobs being shipped overseas. no to unfair trade agreements. americans FIRST. ..NOT foreigners first.when obama said he would get america off middle east oil within 10 years. well, that sold me. you kind of have to wonder why bush didn't do a goddamn thing to get us off middle east oil. he had 8 years to do so. and didn't do anything about it.will obama come ...

have you ever seen a ghost?
2008-08-28 03:04:16
I have. when the event occurred, I told everybody of the experience, and somebody told me quote, "you are lucky." my reply to that was, "how do you see that?"the response I got was - "when you see something like a ghost, you are blessed because you know that something else out there truly exists." rather than having to deal mainly on faith, you have absolute truth.the story...let's start with background info first. ..the year was 1976. location was eugene, oregon. I was in my third year of college at the university of oregon. the approximate time of the event - 1am in the morning.as I recall, I was driving my girlfriend at the time back home to her home which was out in the suburbs. the road I drove down to return her to her home was a new 4 lane road that was still in the process o...

I woke up today with the sniffles. and now, I feel somewhat "down under" so to speak. there is something going around these parts. and it's not santa claus.definitely no lobby tonight. a minute ago, I was thinking about going. but in a moment of reflection, I realized my body is wracked with pain. and my mind is a little groggy. not a good idea to leave my apartment. that's for sure.it'll be tv and surfing the net for tonight.I got to be careful with my health now because of the upcoming trip to china. the last thing I want to happen is to be sick during the time I am on vacation there.ugh!...

politics?
2008-08-27 00:19:02
for about 3 days now, I have been receiving these phone calls in thai which have a political undertone. it appears some people want my opinion about the current state of political affairs in thailand.so, what do I do when I receive a call like this? ..naturally, I hang up right away. it is none of my business. and frankly, I don't want to get caught up in something that is a lose-lose situation.it brings back memories of when I was a foreign exchange student in hong kong way back in 78/79. I remember meeting these "red guard" students who would come up to me in an aggressive manner and ask me in a demanding way what my opinion about china was. even then, as I do now, I knew that it wasn't in my best interest to say anything in opposition to their opinion.it appears "something" is hap...

commentary: thailand.
2008-08-26 08:26:52
lately, there have been some protests in bangkok. and a number of people have asked me what I think about it.this is my reply...personally, if it wasn't for the local newspapers and tv, I wouldn't have known the protests ever occurred. I have not seen any large gatherings of people in the areas where I frequent. things I've noticed around here...1)the recent addition of a 24 hour channel on tv that focuses mainly on PAD debates and activities. one day about 3 months ago, this channel on tv just appeared. I watched it for a few minutes back when it first appeared. but because I was not interested in local politics, I just turned the channel to something else.EVEN though I am not interested in this what I will call the "PAD channel", I did notice that many thai people around me from th...

man, it sucks getting old. people, I got to tell you. I just received this message from one of the other lounge lizards. evidently, I promised to keep something secret. but get this, I forgot. what makes it more tragic is - I can't remember agreeing to the secret. ugh! make that a double ugh!do you know what my greatest fear is? ..it's getting alhzeimer's disease, and forgeting all the happy memories that I have accummulated over the years.maybe that is why I do this blog? to record things so that if I forget something, I can refresh my mind by reading it.anyway, so, what happened last night, you ask? the biggest thing was - I saw brian piccolo. he's back. I guess he is still experiencing jetlag because he had to go to sleep early. we only got to talk for perhaps 15 minutes.i...

directions: moo ka-tat at sukhumvit soi 71.
2008-08-25 07:57:25
somebody wanted to know where the moo ka-tat at sukhumvit soi 71 was located.in a nutshell, it is where sukhumvit soi 71 intersects with sukhumvit road. ..there is a traffic booth in front of the moo ka-tat. a parking lot behind the traffic booth. it is an open air restaurant with seating for about 200 people. opens around 5:30pm.if you get on the skytrain at the nana BTS station and head towards onnut BTS, get off at the prakanong BTS station. continue walking up sukhumvit road in the direction of the onnut BTS. about 200 meters up on the right side of sukhumvit road, you should see the moo ka-tat.anyway, so what happened to me last night? nothing. I stayed home to watch the departing ceremony for the beijing olympics. and then, spent the rest of the night playing my computer game...

got an email from the priest today. he's coming back to the land of smiles soon - next month.there's always somebody coming or going here. that's one of the reasons why I enjoy living here in bangkok. easy to meet people, and make friends.last night in the lobby, I wouldn't call it an average night as there were only a few lounge lizards out and about. but I had fun.roll call.. timberwolf, zorba the greek, the analog man, the bookkeeper, the handsome man, craig constantine, snow white.I was thinking of going to pattaya yesterday. but at the last minute, I got lazy, and decided to sleep in.not really doing anything nowadays. staying home, debating issues on the internet, playing computer games, and watching tv. and maybe every other day, I go to the lobby a...

had fun last night at the looooobby.
2008-08-20 22:13:36
it rained a little. but not enough to make me want to stay home. when I went to the bus stop, and didn't wait more than 10 seconds, I knew it would be a good night for hanging out.did you know that the "red" non-aircon buses are free right now? yes, about 2 weeks ago, somebody in thailand made the announcement that all the red buses would be free for everybody to ride on ALL day. you just hop on board one, and off you go. no need to pay the regular fee of 7 baht. how long this policy will last, I'm not sure. no wait. no fare to pay. equals happy lounge lizard.so, when I got to the lobby, I saw timberwolf, craig constantine, clint eastwood, the analog man, patrick o'brien, snow white, and the handsome man out and about.the temperature outside was cool. another san francisco like da...

the time is about 8:30pm at night here in bangkok. ..and it is raining cats and dogs outside my door as I write this post. it's raining so hard, I can hear the rain coming down.yes, it appears the rainy season is finally upon us.from my experience, the heaviest rain of the year in bangkok occurs in august and september. that is one of the reasons why I decided to go to china this coming september.so, the big question is - will I go to the lobby tonight? to the peanut gallery in the back, the answer is no.how do I feel about having to stay in tonight because of the rain. it sucks! BIG time. but I would rather twiddle my thumbs dry in my room than journey out in the rain and get my feet wet. that's a given.anyway, I guess I'll leave you all to your th...

2008-08-16 17:16:21
made it to the lobby tonight. it was a last minute decision. I looked outside to see if it was raining. ..it turned out to be a nice breezy summer night. somewhat like the summer days I used to experience in san francisco way back when.well, anyway, I got to the lobby at around 11:30pm. I was surprised to find the parking lot open with many people walking about. it felt like old times before they had the curfew.the parking lot looked ok. but the thing that was missing was - lounge lizards.there was not one lounge lizard in the soft seats when I arrived at 11:30pm, people. talk about a new low. ..it doesn't get any lower than zero.naturally, I went back out to the parking where there seem to be some action. ..saw craig constantine off in the distan...

2008-08-12 23:32:14
the day started out with this light drizzle, and it never seem to let up. I didn't leave my place until around 9pm. slowly took my time making it to the parking lot. it was drizzling a little when I got to the parking lot. not too many people around. ..drizzle, drizzle, drizzle. clint eastwood walked by. haven't seen him a while. asked him where he's been. his reply.. "2 months in africa. almost got mugged. glad to be back." I went back to standing in the drizzle staring off into the street when clint left.in the next 2 hours, I didn't see one single lounge lizard. not one...around midnight, timberwolf popped out in the lobby. I sat down to have a chat with him. we both seem to agree. nobody around because of the drizzle. during the conversation, got a text from errol fly...

you ever get so saturated with people, you need to take a break from the scene? yeah. ..after eating my dinner, I took a short nap and woke up with this crushing feeling in my mind. trying to coordinate where everybody would like to meet can get one really frustrated. one person wants to meet at mbk. another wants to meet at the beer garden. ..so, what do you do if you have 3 separate parties wanting to meet at 3 different locations all within the same day?yeah. I've decided not to meet anybody. I know that most of the time, these people are not control freaks. ..they are just not aware that the planet is full of people trying to get a piece of everybody else for some reason. ugh!anyway, I just turned my brain off. and stopped trying to answer my ...

I think maybe it is due to this huge banana split I dug into last night. ..that would do it, right?anyway, so here I am. it is about 7pm. the vibes were not there last night. there were a number of lounge lizards hanging out. but for some reason, the vibes were not too positive. it felt like everybody (myself included) was experiencing their "period" - if you know what I mean. maybe it was the fact that a number of the guys will be leaving bangkok in the next day or 2. yeah. ..that would explain the general morale of the group.the bangkok blues.it did appear extraordinary hot and humid last night. more so than in the past few weeks. maybe that was what made the difference?the silver lining in it all was - singapore jimmy appeared out of the woodwork. first time in a long time. just in time to see da brain before he leaves. we chatted at length over things. was hoping to see harrison ford since he mentioned that h...

2008-08-08 08:17:39
the time is about 7:30pm at night here in bangkok. I am watching the opening ceremony for the beijing olympics 2008 on tv. pretty impressive displays. china has really outdid itself. I would have to say it is one of the most impressive opening ceremonies I have seen of all the opening ceremonies that I have seen.cool! with the number of performers involved, it reminds me of the old movies that came with a cast of thousands. add the modern special effects that only modern day technologies provide, and what I am seeing on tv will be something to talk about for years to come.definitely - a performance to be remembered...my plan is to go hangout at the lobby tonight. but I am not sure when I will go. the following is a true story that happened to me on one of my first trips to thailand.back in 1995, I fell in love with this girl while on vacation in bangkok, thailand. she worked as a model for this car dealership. it was love at first sight. having just experienced a divorce after being married for like 7 years, I was a total rookie on how to deal with these new feelings of mine.all I wanted to do was please this new love in my life. towards that goal, I bought her a gold bracelet, invited her to eat out with me whenever we gather together, even took her on a trip to this beach resort for a week.this relationship (if you can call it that) lasted for close to 3 months. and cost me close to $10,000 dollars. this may seem like a small sum of money to ma...

didn't do too much last night. went out to get some money to pay my rent. along the way, I noticed a public display of photos near the central world mall. spent like an hour reviewing the pics. interesting stuff.afterwards, I just hopped on a bus and went home. paid the rent. back in my room, I laid back in bed and rested my mind. got so relaxed, I went to sleep. woke up at around midnight. mind was empty like I wanted. decided to play some computer games. and would you believe it? it is now about 6am. not sleepy at all.I guess I'll go take a shower now, and roam around outside a little. it will be somewhat of a change to observe the world in daylight. maybe I'll go to the 24 hour grocery store down the street and stock up on food.after that is done, not sure what to do. wi...

had fun checking out the gogo bars with mike jagger last night. with drinks averaging about 55 baht, hanging out at the bars was affordable. we must have hit about 5 places. afterwards, I came away from the bar scene with a smile on my face and a wallet that was still intact.mike jagger was still in commando mode after all the oogling. but I was starting to tired out. so, I left him on walking street and went to the 24 hour mcdonalds over in the royal garden mall to munch on a late night snack before going back to the hotel to sleep.a happy memory.after a few hours rest, I woke up and went to the lek hotel breakfast buffet to fill up. then, I boarded a bus back to bangkok. the time was about 10am. I was still prett...

2008-08-02 04:42:33
around 4pm yesterday afternoon, I boarded a bus to pattaya, and arrived around 6:30pm. I was really hungry at the time. so, instead of getting a room right away, I made a stop over at the lek hotel all-you-can-eat buffet, and stuffed myself full of baby back ribs. called the bay area boys to see what they were up to. and then, went looking for a room. found this place for 400 baht a night. and after taking a quick shower, went cruising around the old haunts. ..so many new changes since I was in pattaya last - about 6 months ago. got a call from the bay area boys - errol flynn, dennis the menace, and thor. met up with them. hung out a little. around 11pm thereabouts, I went over to walking street to meet up with mike jagger. tried to touch bases with beenthere and hammer, but wa...

this afternoon, I stayed home and played SOTSE. the shadow called me a number of times as he progressed from his hotel to the airport. for those of you who are not up to date on what's going on.. the shadow is leaving bangkok today - going home. anyway, he wanted to try taking my cheap route to the airport. 35 baht one way - victory monument bus #551 to the new airport. as it were, he ended up taking the victory monument bus #510 to the OLD airport. oh well - learner's fee.got a call from mike jagger. confirmation that we will be going to pattaya friday afternoon. again, we shall see how that turns out. bill cosby, the smothers brothers, errol flynn, dennis the menace, thor, beenthere, and hammer will all be there. let's just see if I can hook up with them when we get there late...

2008-07-31 00:37:52
the time is about noon. ..just got word from mike jagger, he can't make it to pattaya today. so, I've decided to postpone the trip down until maybe tomorrow. maybe for the best since the bay area boys are not going down until tomorrow anyway.it'll also give me a chance to see kaito one more time tonight to shoot the breeze a little. things happen for a reason.I guess I'll go hang out at one of the malls today since I am awake already. noon is early for me, people. I normally wake up at 4 or 5pm. hehehe.anyway, my thoughts are turning to food all of a sudden....padkapow moo over rice. ..followed by a hot cup of java. aaaahhhhhhhh....
