I Am 23.
2008-07-14 13:33:00
It's kind of depressing when you wake up one morning and realize that your life is going nowhere. I've just turned 23 and I haven't done anything in my life that would be of significance to other people. All my friends have jobs and I'm still living in my parents' house bumming around. I haven't been in a long-term relationship and I've had my heart broken twice. Talk about depressing.Maybe it's not all that bad and maybe I'm just thinking too much. But this is actually what I call "Soul Searching". I haven't had the time to reflect on where my life's going and now that I've found time, I'm wishing that I hadn't. Regrets, regrets. So I've made some changes in my life. As you can see, I have a countdown timer on the top of this page. I plan to abstain from drinking alcohol for three months. ...

2008-07-10 11:46:00
Pot and I both check our Friendster horoscopes to guide us through our days. We don't actually follow it blindly, but it doesn't hurt to take little precautions. My astrology sign is Cancer and Pot's is Scorpio and she told me that these signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces have great compatibilities (yes, we'd make a great lesbo couple but we're not into that kind of stuff). So when she told me to check out Astrology Zone, I did. This is what I found out:Water signs specialize in private relationships, but their focus differs from sign to sign. Cancer expresses their water element in the nurturing, preservation and protection of the family, which is the smallest unit upon which society is built, and yet the most important. Sharing love with spouse and...

JJ and I went out again last Saturday. We played poker the whole day and I had fun. We even decided to just go to a drive-thru just so we can maximize our time together. He's a perfect gentleman. He's nice, funny, thoughtful, smart. Too bad he's married. For the past few days I've been watching a lot of TV. And I think my conscience found a way to get to me: Movie Characters. There was this movie, Ties That Bind. I didn't watch the whole film but I think there was a nurse and a married surgeon. I really don't know if they had an affair because I was preoccupied with something else.I also saw Just Like Heaven and I think this line got to me:"Maybe I was a sl*t. A lonely, home-wrecking sl*t." - ElizabethI realized that I had to tell him that I only wanted to be friends and nothing more. I don'...

2008-07-05 09:25:00
Got this from a friend's Multiply blog entry.HELL EXPLAINED BY CHEMISTRY STUDENTThe following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term.The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, and via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well:Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I thin...

So I'm back home bumming around watching Wowowee again and laughing my a** off every time I see Bentong on live TV. God, I miss my shows. And how can I forget my downloads? I've been downloading like crazy since I stopped working. I have finally found the super rare MTV Icon: Metallica torrent I've been searching for and I'm planning to watch it tonight.I'm stuck at home. No job means no money. Oh, please help me. I've been spending the whole day with my mom and dog, and I'm beginning to feel that my nose is slowly getting congested. My plan to stop smoking has been put to a halt because I'm now up to 5 sticks a day again (I was down to 2 sticks per day), and I probably would be smoking a lot more if I had the money to buy packs of cigarettes. And although I've got nothing to do, I still do...

Last Day.
2008-06-30 08:12:00
My training in our local hospital ended this afternoon. I enjoyed my last day and of course, as a respected tradition, we treated our colleagues to lunch. My partner cooked all the food and all I did was give him financial assistance.I scrubbed in on two surgeries today: a Herniorrhaphy done by AG and an Emergency Explore Laparotomy done by NB and AG. I had to scrub out of the first case because we had a meeting with our Training Supervisor. After the meeting, I came across NB on my way back to the O.R. so I invited him to have lunch with us. AG however, wasn't invited but since he had a scheduled surgery, we asked him to join us. AG made peace with me because he wanted rice along with the best Caldereta I've ever tasted and the yummy Ginataang Tulingan. I bought extra cups of rice so I off...

I don't think I've written anything this past week. I've been meeting my friends after work and when I finally have time to blog, I choose to sleep instead. Work. It's tiring. But at least I'm enjoying myself.MondayBoring day. We had one case which was rescheduled to next week because of the patient's severe hypertension. We were inside the O.R. the whole day making cherries. We figured we should watch a movie from my colleague's Ipod so we did. We watched Transformers on a two-inch monitor. But hey, the sound was great. We have pimped out speakers. And oh, we have a new volunteer with us.TuesdayAlthough we had a few OB surgeries, I still thought this day was boring. The only part I enjoyed was speaking to this Indonesian doctor because he talks funny.WednesdaySurgery day. Intense of cours...

| I claimed my winnings from "The Bet" yesterday. JJ took me out to have our late lunch at Grilla Bar and Resto in Antipolo. I didn't enjoy the meal so much because he was on a diet and I ate alone (eating alone is something I've always hated). Apparently he was on his way to achieving his ideal body fat percentage or whatever. After lunch, he took me to his lot to do some sightseeing. The place was wonderful. It's like a province in the city. They have an infinity pool, a golf course, two clubhouses, and man-made lakes. It was amazing.I honestly had a good time with JJ. He was a gentleman, a good listener, and he made me laugh. He also confessed why he was drawn to me the first time he saw me. He said that I looked like his best friend who also turned out to have the same name as mine.

I saw the proposal for the surgeries tomorrow and found out that JJ would be doing another surgery with us but this time, he'll be paired up with NB. They will be doing a Cysto-TURP operation which is cool because the last time, I was busy assisting on another surgery that I didn't have a chance to look through the scope.Anyway, tomorrow will be the first time I see JJ after the exchange of numbers. I don't know if I should feel excited or embarrassed. JJ is married and yet he keeps on sending me sweet messages everyday. I know for sure that I won't ever want to get involved with a married man but still, I don't know if being friends with him is a good idea. The dinner date was moved to lunch so it's positive that there will be no alcoholic beverages involved (which is a good thing). About "The Bet":So the surgeon turned out to be married and when I told him that I wouldn't want to be romantically involved with a married man, he told me he was disappointed but he understood. So, we're definitely JUST FRIENDS.Do I have something written all over me that only taken and married men see? What do I have that these people find so irresistible? I really don't know.Anyway, I don't wanna talk about these things anymore. I don't plan on having an extra complicated love life.Last Friday, Eduard visited me after my shift. We had three hours to share 8 months worth of stories. I told him about JJ, the surgeon and he told me to never sleep with a married person (and I won't, not ever!). Three hours went by so quickly and he had to take me back to the hospital so I can meet with the ...

Today, I assisted in my second cystolithotomy surgery. Although it was supposed to be a closed Cysto-TURP operation (done with scopes and everything), they had to slice the person open after finding smooth stones which can't be grabbed by the little equipment they stuck inside the man. It was interesting because of this new surgeon we're gonna name JJ.I've heard from the nurses that JJ used to be a resident in our hospital but is now practicing on other clinics. He is a Uro Surgeon. He was nice to everyone and he kept calling the nurses "madam". He's not a jerk like AG, and that's the reason why everybody liked him.During the surgery, the anaesthesiologist updated us regarding the Boston Celtics-LA Lakers game and being a Celtics fan, I was bummed out. I am planning to update this blog everyday for the remainder of my blogging life. Now that I think about it, I don't think it's "cool" to blog until you die. I guess I'll be updating this blog until I get married. But oooh, when will that be?At first, the plan was to get married by the age of 23. Plan changed. I didn't want to be involved in a serious relationship while I was still in college. I didn't know how to do the usual things a good wife does like cook, wash and iron clothes, those stuff. Then I wanted to have a baby at 20. I got soft after spending two weeks delivering babies in TMC. Then changed my mind again after watching OB-GYNs suture vajayjays. Nobody does that to my V!This is the current plan:I can get married anytime but babies come out when I'm 30. I told myself that gettin...

One of my high school friends got married last Friday. I was invited but I was late because I had to work. It wasn't a church wedding anyway so I didn't bother missing a work day.The bride asked me if I had a boyfriend. I didn't. I told her that I don't think being in an intimate relationship is a good idea right now. I was living in a world where work, sleep, family, and friends are the only things that matter. Having a guy person who bothers you every minute of every day is something I didn't need. She understood what I meant. Then told me that I was different from the other girls she grew up with. While some think about getting married and having kids, I was thinking of my career. She said that we had different priorities in life. Hers is to be with her family, and mine is to be successf...

I think there's a huge problem with Google Services. My blog doesn't update, my email keeps saying my browser's cache is full, and the search engine itself doesn't find things I need. Yahoo!, on the other hand, has been showing great improvements. If only they offer the same services as Google, I'd probably switch to Yahoo!.I think the makers of Google bit off a little more than they could chew. Maybe the developers didn't think their creation would become this successful that they didn't bother making sure that everything was working properly. They simply created it then set it off for the world to use.I've been having these problems for quite a long time and honestly, I'm not pleased. I don't think they even have customer support. This is the only way I could think up to reach them. Mayb...

I scrubbed in for another cholecystectomy today done by no other than the great NB. This time, a lot of other residents were with us. The surgery started at 1pm so I had to extend my shift. The other OR nurses were asking if I wanted to scrub out and of course, I said no. I was making the most out of my last few weeks in the OR (and with NB).I'm beginning to memorize everything about this surgery: the drapes, the positioning, the sutures. One of my colleagues even asked me if I've worked in the OR for long because I moved like an expert. I told him I've been there for 3 weeks and he thought I've been there for 3 months.Anyway, it was a warm day and as usual, when it's warm, NB uses the back of my OR gown to wipe the sweat off his face. The gown got soaked and his sweat was reaching my scru...

Plus, it's full of interesting people and places: The Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty, and I've heard that they have this great hotdog place called Gray's Papaya.I think I'd still be a nurse even if I'm in this unfamiliar city. I can't think of anything else I want to be other than a nurse. Although I'd probably go by a different name. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before in my blog but my ultimate dream is to become a surgeon. And because I hate to read books and stay up all night studying, being an OR nurse is the next best thing. My workmates and I were discussing our favorite operations. Since I love general surgeries, I plan on mastering cholecystectomies, herniorrhaphies, and appendectomies. My favorite nurse senior loves OB surgeries so if it's time for a TAH-BSO, we call upon her. The big guys of Ortho surgery loves to have a male OR nurse with them because of their heavy equipments.Today, I assisted with two abdominal surgeries. The first surgeon was AG. He kept on blaming me for having complicated surgeries. It's like I was his jinx or something. I found it funny at first but this time, I was a little offe...

USA Network's new original series In Plain Sight is a dramedy that follows Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack), a U.S. Marshall who works in the Witness Protection Program keeping Federal witnesses safe. Alongside her partner, Marshall Mann (Fred Weller), Mary has to keep tabs on her witnesses and help them adjust to the program as they prepare to testify. The witnesses range from violent criminals to innocent people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.In order to keep up with the theme of the TV show, I've decided to play a little game with the readers of this blog. The TNs had a reunion Tequila Pool Party yesterday. It was originally my friend's brother's 21st birthday party which turned to my friend's Balikbayan Party which then turned to another awesome Tequila Night. We were all there. One didn't even go to work that night because it's been months since we all gathered 'round and talk about the wonders of nothingness. Plus, the GLs were also there. As I've mentioned on my other posts, I like one of the GLs. I think saying that I USED to like Simba, the smaller G-ier cute Combat guy, is more appropriate since I don't like him that way anymore. Which In Plain Sight TV show character am I like? I can honestly say that I see a little of myself in Marshall Mann's character. He's focused on his career but still manages to have a well-balanced life. He knows a little bit of everything and he makes sure he's still intellectually challenged by simple events that happen to him everyday. He also has this great partner, which I also have. Although Marshall and his partner have different personalities, they get along very well, and both have other people's best interests at heart. They take care of each other very well and although no one has said anything, they know in their hearts that one will always be there to support the other.USA Network's new original series In Plain Sight premieres this Sunday, June 1st....

I went to the official OR Party of 2008 yesterday. All the OR nurses and some anaesthesiologists were there. Some of them even brought their family to enjoy the pool.Of course, in any party, you can see that the crowd is divided. The senior nurses are on one table, the kids spent the whole day swimming, and of course, the newbies sitting on one corner getting their drinks on.We, the newbies, bonded over bottles and bottles of beer. Sharing funny stories about our college lives and our first day in the hospital. After 7 hours of drinking, I started to feel drunk. I have been transferred to the Operating Room to be an OR Nurse. Yesterday was my first day and I was excited. I thought I would be able to scrub in on my first day but I didn't. I was the Circulating Nurse for a Thyroidectomy which lasted for 6 hours. My shift was from 6am to 2pm and was only given bathroom breaks. I ate my breakfast at around 4:45am and ate lunch at 2:30pm. It's cool but I got hungry twice before I had the chance to eat.The NICU Head Nurse visited me in the OR to see how I was doing. I watched The Godfather again today and I remembered how it rocked.
