You Can't Cage This Bird - KEGL is back on the air
2007-12-18 10:42:00
After a few years in exile, legendary Dallas rock radio station KEGL 97.1 is back on the air as a hard rock station. This development throws a wrench into the Dallas radio mix, as 93.3 "The Bone" now has competition for the rock radio market in DFW.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Everything I learned about Adjusting My Attitude, I Learned from Tony Romo
2007-12-14 12:36:00
In case you have been living under a rock, Tony Romo is the quarterback for the 12-1 Dallas Cowboys. Although his athletic ability gets the lion share of the press lately (deservedly so) one of things that Tony is also known for is smiling. He has a nice smile, as the ladies have noticed, but the thing about Tony's smile is that he is always smiling. Gets sacked, gets up smiling. Throws and interception, smiles as he walks to the sideline. Smiles when interviewed, smiles when standing alone, smiles when going to a party with Jessica Simpson. So I thought, what if I just smiled all the time? It might take a few months to get the muscles in my face built up, but why not try it for a week.I am into my fourth day and I got to tell you, something positive is happening. People are friendlie...

Baseball's Wrist Slap
2007-12-13 15:55:00
The Mitchell Report on Steroid use in Baseball came out today and named names.Big Deal. This report means nothing to me because:1. They have made it clear that there will be no punishment for the people named in this report. So essentially, it is toothless.2. The report does not address amphetamine use, which is 10X worse and widespread in baseball than steroids3. It mentions that most of the players have moved onto to HGH, which cannot be detected in standard urine testsIf Selig wanted to make a statement he would have:1. Included punishment for current/past/future players that would have included a lifetime suspension/records deleted from the book/banishment from the HOF2. Named names for the amphetamine use, turned over to the DEA3. Announced researc...

5 Best Things to Say When Caught Sleeping at Your Desk
2007-12-12 16:16:00
5. "They told me at the Blood Bank this might happen."4. "This is just a 15 minute power nap they raved about in the time management course you sent me to."3. "Whew! Guess I left the top off the Whiteout. You probably got here just in time."2. "Did you ever notice sound coming out of these keyboards when you put your ear down real close?" And the NUMBER ONE best thing to say if you get caught sleeping at your desk...1. Raise your head slowly and say, "...in Jesus' name, Amen."http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Digg is Deadd to Me
2007-12-07 13:45:00
When I was still a youngster to the Internet, I used to love to read FARK. I thought it was very funny, and sometimes, very useful. One of things I liked about FARK was that all the links were submitted by users. So in a way, it was really the first of the Web 2.0 companies, allowing participation from the active Internet community. However, in time I grew tired of FARK. Not that the stories submitted weren't funny and interesting, but because it was nearly impossible to get a link submitted to the front page. FARK's link submission process was moderated, so you had to find something very interesting or be quick on the draw if you wanted something on the front page. In two years of trying, I think I got 2 links approved. Frustrated, I gave up, and I rarely visit that page now.I was exc...

When spam approaches infinity
2007-12-07 13:41:00
From Seth Godwin:"After years of resisting, I finally gave up yesterday. I turned on the Yahoo spam filter. So far, it's caught 443 pieces of spam in 14 hours. The problem is that it's wrong about .5% of the time, which means that two good mails got caught. If you write to me and I don't write back, try not to give up. I'd ask you to write again, but of course, that won't help so much. What a shame that we let organized crime, aggressive promoters and selfish nebbishes wreck such a useful medium.[Thanks to all your suggestions, I switched to Google's spam filter. It's terrific."So Spam not only chokes in-boxes, it kills good email.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Doctors Baffled By Green Sweat
2007-12-06 14:22:00
Doctors in China admit they are baffled after a man began to perspire green sweat.Cheng Shunguo, 52, of Wuhan city, says his sweat turned green in the middle of November. “I noticed that my underwear and bed sheets were all green, and even the water in the shower,” he said.Cheng says he feels no discomfort, but went to hospital because he was worried about his condition. Doctors thoroughly cleaned his armpits but it took only 10 minutes for his sweat to turn a piece of white gauze green again. They have carried out blood tests on Cheng, but found everything to be normal.“We can’t find the cause,” admitted a spokesman for the hospital which reported the case to the media in the hope of finding a solutionhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Jet-setters charged with identity theft - Yahoo! News
2007-12-05 08:37:00
"They were young, rich and in love. ADVERTISEMENT But the jet-setters financed their fun on the credit cards of unsuspecting neighbors in their high-end apartment building and other identity-fraud victims, police said Monday. Jocelyn Kirsch, 22, and Edward K. Anderton, 25, were charged Friday with identity theft, forgery, unlawful use of a computer and a laundry list of other counts. Their fraud scheme, estimated at $100,000 this year alone, paid for jaunts to Paris, London and Hawaii and other luxury perks, including Kirsch's stop at a tony salon for $1,700 worth of hair extensions, police said."http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Dallas Wins the Game, Loses the Praise
2007-11-30 08:45:00
Dallas Cowboys won the BIG game last night by beating the Packers 37-27 and getting themselves a place in the playoffs. 11-1, unbelievable.Yet in the court of public opinion (i.e. sportswriters) it was a game that Dallas probably shouldn't have won, and nary a scant bit of praise caqn be found the the NFC's best team:Don Banks, Sports Illustrated: "Did you notice how the tide turned when the younger Rodgers entered the game and started making a few plays outside of the pocket and rolling to his right? Suddenly the Cowboys defense looked a step slow and the Packers started to generate some offensive rhythm for the first time all night."ESPN: Cowboys hold off Favre-less Packers to clinch playoff berth (Held off? They won by...

Google continues to show the way
2007-11-29 08:45:00
"Yesterday, Google announced that it plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in sources of renewable energy to help them power their vast server farms. The money, which will go to people like engineers and researchers looking into new forms of solar, geothermal and wind power, will both help the Googe save money in the long run as well as help the environment from damage due to Google's energy usage"http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Global Warming's Next Victim: Wheat
2007-11-28 13:22:00
"We're used to watching the price of oil mock gravity, but there's an even more essential commodity that's also become scarcer and pricier in recent months: Traders are paying record prices for wheat on world markets, thanks in part to shortages caused by a mix of drought and flooding. Canada, the second-biggest wheat producer after the U.S., looks set to harvest its smallest crop in five years, due to an unusually dry July, while production in the European Union may be down nearly 40% from last year after flooding rains followed long droughts. Growing global demand for biofuels is also eating up grain production, and boosting prices."http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Barry Bonds is a Liar
2007-11-16 08:55:00
"NOVEMBER 15--Baseball star Barry Bonds was indicted today on perjury and obstruction of justice charges stemming from a years-long federal probe that examined his alleged use of steroids."So Barry finally caught it in the ass - did he really think the feds were going to let him off the hook? How do I feel about all this? I'm not going to giggle gleefully over Barry more than likely going to jail or having his records wiped out; it makes me sad that there are players out there who have such an over-inflated sense of ego and worth that they have to do stuff like steroids. They get to play a great game, get paid well to do it and those things are simply not enough?Hopefully, this investigation will help bring the end to the "Steroid Era" but not the en...

NFL fines T.O. $10,000 for waving towel
2007-11-09 16:12:00
"Terrell Owens' latest trip to the end zone came with a price. The flamboyant and controversial Dallas Cowboys wide receiver was fined $10,000 Thursday for violating NFL uniform and equipment rules, according to the Dallas Morning News. After scoring a touchdown in Sunday's 38-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Owens waved a personalized towel on the sideline.Owens told the newspaper that the fine is an example of the league taking the fun out of the game."It's stuff like that," Owens said. "People try to make a big deal out of it. It's not any different than Chad (Johnson) going to the sidelines and taking (out) a coat. All I had was a little towel, and now they want to make that into a big deal."Earlier this season, the Cincinnati Bengals' Johnson drew a $10,000 fine for donning a bl...

So I'm tired of xmas already
2007-11-09 15:59:00
The out-decorate the neighbors contest has started in my neighborhood. To avoid being miserable, I am hiring somebody to do it for me this year.I hate to sound all scrooge and all, but I am counting the seconds until the holiday season is over. I hate Christmas music, Christmas specials (with the exception of the Grinch) and Christmas shopping (which I am doing by Amazon.com this year). My kids are too old for Santa Claus, and since I am an atheist, the holiday holds no special karma for me either. My second favorite holiday (next to the 4th of July) is coming though: Thanksgiving. Eating and football. My idea of a holiday.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

How Microsoft knifed its CIO
2007-11-09 10:16:00
The Stuart Scott affair has gotten deeper. The latest wrinkle in the firing of Microsoft's CIO? A source close to Scott now claims that he was indeed on leave at the time of his dismissal -- because of his sister's death. Scott was traveling to her funeral when the news broke. "Microsoft seems to have arranged the news for maximum embarrassment and pain for him -- it's not so time sensitive that they can't take more than a month reviewing things, but they have to leak it when he's got a death in the family?" writes our tipster. If true, I worry for Microsoft's future. Top managers in Redmond really have time to plot such elaborate set-piece humiliations of straying executives? If they put this kind of energy into Web search, Google might actually be wor...

Bitch-Slapped by Google
2007-11-08 09:56:00
Well it appears like many others, I have been bitch-slapped by the new Google Page Rank adjustment. I went from a PR4 to nothing - which is were I began. I don't feel like I have lost much, links to my site and traffic have gone up in spite of my recent "demotion" by the Gods@google.com. So what to do? Nothing really, as John Chow points out, "The only thing Google has done is make link sellers come up with a new pricing system that won’t include PageRank." As Courtney Tuttle points out, if Google wants to make PageRank irrelevant, they are doing a fine job. Those who don't have anything to lose can do whatever they want. I am one of them now. Viva La Revolution!http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...

Research indicates dogs have some ability to read minds (11/7/2007)
2007-11-07 08:20:00
Dog owners who think their beloved pooch can read their mind may be right.Canterbury University psychology student Michelle Maginnity has just completed a masters research project looking at whether the domestic dog has a theory of mind - that is, whether they can think about the thoughts and feelings of self and others. She said after carrying out a range of experiments which tested the cognitive skills of dogs, she believed they were not only sensitive to human cues, but also had the ability to think about what their human companions may be thinking."So, in a way, dogs may be able to read minds," she said.Michelle's research involved testing the social-cognitive skills of 16 dogs, some pure bred and others of mixed breed,...

Heather Mills is Losing Her mind
2007-11-06 08:14:00
While Sir Paul is keen to reach a settlement as soon as possible, she added that she plans to drag her feet over divorce negotiations until the two-year anniversary of their separation in May.Her latest assault on the 65-year-old star, in Hello! magazine, was against the advice of her legal team who warned her not to go on the offensive.Miss Mills's close circle fear she is damaging her chances of achieving her aim - a £50million payoff and a custody deal over the couple's four-year-old daughter Beatrice. But once again she came out all guns blazing. "This is a man that hangs on to his money," she said. "He wouldn't be as rich if he didn't."Who needs that kind of money? I'm still keeping quiet about the total truth, giving him a chance to help us move on and get out of this awful situation...

Your Fellow Blogger is Not a Competitor
2007-11-05 11:54:00
Do you ever feel jealous that another blogger in your niche is getting more readers than you? Or perhaps you believe that you deserve more attention then him or her. After all, you think their content isn’t nearly as good as yours. But there’s no reason to feel that they are your competition, especially if they are only providing free content to generate income. Both of you are not selling products or services that would be rendered useless, once a customer has decided to make a purchase from a specific source. Most blogs create content to attract audiences in return for monetization via ad revenue or affiliate recommendations. Readers follow these blogs because they give them the information or entertainment they need. Content is easily available and re...

YOU MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE IN PRISON
2007-10-23 12:57:00
You’ve heard all the rumors. You’ve seen all the TV movies. You own The Shawshank Redemption and Oz on DVD. You’ve read all the "You Are Going to be Raped in Prison" books. You’re scared shitless. You know that when the gavel falls and they send you up the river, you’ll be a "new fish" dumped into a pool of bloodthirsty piranhas. The first time you walk down the tier to your cell, praying for God to give your trembling knees the energy to keep pushing forward, you’ll hear the hoots and whistles and see the grimy hands reaching out to grab your ass, leering toothless mastodons making kissy-face at you, the nauseatingly horrifying amorous advances of drooling tattooed sociopaths ready to split your rectum open like they’re deboning a chicken. Ten Reasons Gay Marriage is Un-American
2007-10-23 08:36:00
Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds ofcrazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a doghas legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn'tchanged at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marrywhites, and divorce is still illegal. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriagewere allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-funmarriage would be destroyed. Straight marriages are valid becau...

Lasts Too Long?
2007-10-18 10:25:00
You just can't dream up comedy better than this:"DEAR MARGO: Many women complain that their husbands don't last very long in bed. I wish I had that problem. I've been married eight years to a wonderful guy -- but my problem is that he lasts too long in bed (typically two hours).According to him, he's always been this way. By the end of sex, my back aches, my shoulders throb, and, frankly, I'm bored out of my mind. Marathon sex sessions might sound good, but in actuality they're anything but.I spend the last hour of our "relations" thinking, "For the love of God, just hurry up." Afterward, I hurt for days and only get by with disposable heat packs and tons of Tylenol. Every time he approaches me, I mentally catalog what I have to do for the next week to see if I can afford to be "hobbled."W...

Dear Texas Rangers (Baseball Team)
2007-10-16 09:39:00
Colorado is going to the World Series. What does that mean to you? It should serve as a wake-up call that you are the most mis-managed team in baseball. Teams that were in the dumps less than five years ago (i.e. Detroit, Florida and the aforementioned Colorado Rockies) have all gone to the World Series before you. How does this happen? It happens because the ownership and management of you are not committed to winning. They trade away your best young players, they bring in old, tired re-treads to play for them in the interest of selling tickets, and they show no interest in the main goal of having a team in the first place: winning a championship.(I guess the old excuse of "no pitcher wants to pitch in Texas because...

A-Rod Maybe Worth $1 Billion
2007-10-12 08:43:00
Scott Boras, the high-powered agent for several stars including Yankees third-baseman Alex Rodriguez, is already pushing up his asking price should A-Rod decide to opt out of his contract. As CNBC's Darren Rovell reported yesterday on his sports business blog, Boras believes A-Rod is worth at least $500 million over the next 10 years. That's almost double his current $252 million deal, which was signed after the 2000 season and remains the most expensive in baseball history.http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/naOQ...
