Our first agility class
2007-02-18 06:49:00
A friend of mine convinced me that both Taz and her dog Daisy needed agility classes and today was the first time.I had almost forgotten but arrived just in time. Only 7 people and their dogs showed up probably cause it was just an incredible day; blue skies and 25C.We started with some simple obedience which Taz failed terribly at, he was just soo excited seeing all these other dogs. After 30 minutes we had to take our dogs over some jumps and through the tunnel some dogs even went off lead! I think you should not take it all too serious and we definately had a good laugh when one off the dogs started attacking the tunnel.I wonder what lesson no. 2 will bring!...

Last week I told you all that I would be writing a little more on this blog over the next couple of days but something came up.Unfortunately I was summond for jury duty so last Monday I had to go to selection morning never really thinking I was going to be picked. I was. It's quite a disstressing trial with the charges being murder so I will leave you again for a couple of weeks untill this has gone past. Thanks for stopping by!...

My dogwalker Wendy...
2006-11-28 04:45:00
I have hired a dogwalker yes it's true but it was o so necessary. December is our busiests time of the year, (Just like all the other people on this planet I guess) and I think Taz was simply not getting enough attention and time to go to the beach. Now Wedny comes and picks Taz up every Tuesday and Friday morning for a good 1.5 hour walk and I do the other 5 days no problem.Anyway last night we went up the mountain again and this time yes I forgot my camera we were half way up the hill already when I noticed so again another try next Monday.........

Oh no it died....
2006-11-27 02:26:00
We both said when we had climbed to the top of the mountain and the batteries were empty on my camera. The views were amazing and Taz was amazing because this was Taz's first climb with his doggy back pack on! He carried our water bottles, phone and keys up the mountain, he looked soo cool!Anyway tonight we will be going up there again only further up along a ridge so the views should be even better. And this time I will put in some new batteries!...

Wow the last couple on months have and will be very busy. Between playing with Taz, running a business keeping twin boys entertaines and trying to keep up a scoial life it seems that my blog is the thing that ends at the bottom of the list.Things have been good here though, spring has come and we are enjoying our walks Taz is such a big dog now. I can't really see it and I know he does not realise it either as he still wants to crawl on top of my lap every now and then. Will post heaps of pics soon!...

Cesar's Way
2006-10-04 00:52:00
My husband gave me this book by Cesar Millan the other day it's called "Cesar's Way" and I have to day it's absolutely fantastic!! There is not a lot of dog training advise in it though it's more a book about his life and techniques he applies. A lot of things make so much sence and it's generally a great read.He a look at your local library, it's really worth it!...

First swim YAY
2006-10-02 00:02:00
yesterday I took taz to the beach for a big walk and hopefully a swim. I keep trying to throw the stock a little further every time.We had been walking for about 30 minutes and the sea was like a lake hardly any waves. I threw the stock a little too far and all of sudden HE SWAM!!!YAY TAZZIE!!I was screaming from the beach "good boy Taz" "Go Taz" After that we did it for another 20 times and he swam every time! After a while this lady came up to me and said "gosh you are excited about your pup" So I told her the story and she was like "oh don't all dogs just swim??"Some people are little silly I think....Sorry no pics because I forgot my camera....

Finally we are back!
2006-09-18 22:58:00
wow it has been such a long time since I have been online!Don't worry we are all doing fine but as with every renovation it seems to take more time than you think in advance. My boys are chicken pox free, Taz is fine and summer is on it's way in New Zealand. Yeah!!My big mission for this summer will be to get Taz swimming I must have the only labrador that does not really enjoy water. He goes in to his belly and then quickly walks out again. Very strange!! I think the best to actually get him swimming is for me to get in there with him any suggestions guys???Speak to you soon!...

Dog of the Week: Charlie
2006-08-06 21:18:00
Meet Charlie, our Dog of the Week for this week. Charlie is a golden Labrador and lives in Australia. This is the story about Charlie and how he got this way:"Back when Windows 95 was looming, my mum & dad arrived at Westfields Shopping Centre. They used to go there a lot in those days because it used to be good. But its not too friendly anymore. And when they got out of the car one day, even before they went in, mum said "If they have labs, we are buying one". This was a joke for them at the time, because they had only just moved in together, they had no money, no fences, and there hadn't been labs in that pet shop for AGES. But wouldnt you know it, when they got to the pet shop, there I was. They already had my name picked for months before I was even born. They looked through the glass, a...

The mighty Kong
2006-08-06 04:55:00
A bit of advertising for the mighty Kong...I think Taz's life would be less exciting without these fantastic chewing devices! I started with a puppy Kong (the blue ones) then bought a red one, another red one, a fake black one from a big discounter and last Saturday I bought another red Kong ( I want to have 7 so I can make a batch every Sunday but they are quite expensive..) For anybody who does not know the Kong Company and their products you have to visit this Link and have a look at their website. They have plenty of recipe's on the site for filling the Kong's but I will share with you my favorite and easiest:- fill small hole with peanutbutter- fill a 1/4 of the Kong with kibble- fill 1/2 of the Kong with mashed banana's- a little water on the top- please little piece of meat or dog bi...

Dog food
2006-08-05 08:18:00
Oh dear I have not a lot to write about today. I still have the flu but had to get to get out today to get some Food">dog food for Taz. I have started to switch him over from 3 x 1 cups a day to 2 x 1 and a 1/2 cups a day by reducing lunch and slowly making his dinners and breakfasts a little bigger.I don't think he actually notices it so sofar so good.Anyway while we are at the vet's today I thought I would put Taz on the scales as well and he is now 21.15 kilo's or 46 lbs. I don't have a clue if that's a lot or not but according to the vet he looks great....

2006-07-26 02:44:00
Taz has been playing with his Nobbly Wobbly ball I bought him a couple of weeks ago and since his was not moving around too much I got the camera out, here is the result: "Look at me I am a good puppy!""Mmm let's explore this thing further.""And now my favourite game: Tug probably better to avoid Mom's fingers!""Ok I am bored let's go for a walk on the beach."...

What to wear?
2006-07-09 22:33:00
I really don't think a Labrador Retriever is the kind of dog you can dress up with mini outfits like the smaller breeds. I mean they would just look a little silly, right? So the only shopping you can do as a loving large breed dog owner is search for the perfect collar to "dress up" your pooch.Unfortunately in New Zealand there is hardly anything on offer. In our local petstore there are maybe 5 different patterns in 3 sizes, some plane webbing collars in blue, red and black, and a range of *bling bling* collars for small dogs and cats.So I have (again) been surfing the net looking for a cool collar for Taz, and oh my god what variety there is on offer in other countries especially the US. You guys make me very jealous!! I mean go and have a look these websites to see some of my favourites...
