Reason enough for us to pay them a visit, of course with our camera's. iso: 200 aperture: f/5.0 exposure: 0.0016 s (1/640) focal: 7.0mmView from Lahner Bridge, Wetzlar, GermanyWetzlar is a small, pittoreske town, about 65 Kilometers from Frankfurt am Main, in Germany. Actually we were visiting Hans, a friend of ours, who lives in Frankfurt. And when he told us about this town, immediately all alarm bells rang in my head. Because here in this beautiful little town, two worldfamous brands in photography have their residency! First of all, Carl Zeiss, the lens manufacturor, who, amongst others, makes lenses for the best camera in the world: Hasselblad (yes, I do have one...:P). Another very famous brand is located in this town: Leica, a company which makes great camera's. So...of course I had to come and visit this little town. It was a strange day for weather,...

iso:100 aperture:f/7.1 exposure:1/125 focal:7.0mmoops, sorry ;), bila, sulawesi, indonesiaSometimes the life of a photographer...I *was* going to show you some nice photographs of the "Westergasfabriek" here in Amsterdam, which I made last sunday. It was (almost freezing) cold and we were making evening/night shots. Everything went peachy, apart from my hands, which almost couldn't hold my camera anymore because I didn't feel them anymore...After I got home, I noticed that the Olympus XD card I used failed to work correctly and I could only get a few of the pictures I had taken. I had to reformat the thing which (of course) caused all photographs to be lost. *OOPS, SORRY !*So, instead here are some nice Sulawesi photographs. Enjoy !(P.S. I am now going to use CF cards only. Z. on the boat, near Flores, indonesiaPulau Flores - unique culture, nature, beauty and much more..The island (pulau) lies between Sumbawa and the Timor islands. "Flores" is short for "Cabo da Flores" which was used by Portuguese sailors in the 17th century to identify the cape on the eastern end of the islands because of its underwater "gardens" (coral reefs).Divided by stunning mountain chains and volcanoes, the island is populated by several ethnic groups with their own traditions and languages, like Christians, Muslim, but also a lot of Bugis. Predominantly Catholic, the islanders have retained several aspects of the Portuguese culture. Nearby lies the island of Komodo, where you can find the (in)famous Komodo dragon.local boys coming back from fishing, labuhan bajo, flores, indonesialocal fisherman (Bugis), labuhan bajo, flores, indonesiafishermans boat, harbor of labuhan bajo, flores, indonesiaview over harbor of labuhan bajo, flores, indonesiaharbor of labuhan bajo, flores, indonesiaphinisi boat in bay of labuhan bajo, flores, indonesiakomodo dragon, pulau komodo, indonesia© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

Children playing a ball game, named "takraw"...with a ball made of rotan! Very special. (Sulawesi Selatan)These people are building a buginese boat (Phinisi). Traditional way. They were so kind to let us make some pictures. (Sulawesi Selatan)This boy is making a special Buginese Ricecake called "Dange". It is made from black rice (nasi hitam) with a lot of gula (sugar). Sweet, but really delicious !!! (Sulawesi Selatan)Two boys taking 'mandi' (washing theirselves). This picture was taken near an almost empty swimming pool. We were on our way from Makassar to Pare Pare.I guess she didn't want her photo taken ;) (Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi Selatan)A becak (bycicle taxi) driver in Ujung Pandang (Makassar)© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

Hiya people,On the 4th of May untill the 6th of May I visited Cologne. I know, for the insiders it might sound a bit corny to visit Germany on Dutch Liberty day, but life surprises even me sometimes ;) All and all I wasn't really impressed by Cologne. It is not a very beautiful city. However, I did manage to make a few (average quality) pictures. It's all on my photo page, but below are some highlights :)large tower in cologne. we even went up. there are more pics of that on the photo page.This is the store where they sell the original 'eau de cologne', an incredibly stinking kind of perfume. yuk! ;)View of the large (train)bridge over the Rhine, Cologne.Boat on the Rhine, Cologne.More pictures here.Rick.© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

Delft - Nice little city in the Netherlands
2007-11-11 10:12:43
This is a view of one of the many canals in Delft.I was never a sports fanatic. Used to play some tennis, and I still do, but as a complete amateur ;). My boyfriend however is very active with aswell tennis as badminton. This weekend he had a tennis tournament in the city of Delft. I tagged along, not to watch him win the 3rd (Congratulations, sayang!) place in the tournament, but to make pictures of the city. It was beautiful weather. Since it was on a saturday, it was very crowded and some places I couldn't reach very well, since there was a antique market going on all day. Managed to make some nice shots though. You can watch them all here. Have fun!Rick© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

~~ One of the things which impressed me the most in Indonesia, is that everybody (no exceptions!) is so unbelievably helpful! It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. You don't need to ask. When an Indonesian sees someone needs help, they will do it without asking. A compliment for the Indonesian mentality! Something we westerners could learn from! ~~When (for instance) a car gets stuck, everybody helps. This is typical for Indonesian mentality. | Pasar Malam Besar |
2007-11-11 10:11:51
The Pasar Malam Besar in The Hague is the biggest Eurasian festival in the world. The event is a sensually stimulating trinity of cultural festival, exhibition and food fest rolled into one, held in an archipelago of tents. The Tong Tong Festival will be staged in five separate theatres, under its motto ‘the best mix of East and West’. This year includes artistic and culinary contributions from Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, and the best Eurasian acts from The Netherlands. -- This excerpt from the press bulletin, and my experiences from last years' visit inspired me to visit this years Pasar Malam Besar again.I must say I enjoyed it even more this year, also because I have been in Indonesia and recognize all difference foods and spices. Delicious ! The friends we had with us, didn't know what they had to expect, and were happily surprised by a so large overdose of 'culture' in a relatively 'boring' Netherlands...;)For instance there was a great show of pencak silat, the indonesian martial arts. A sport you can easily compare with more well-known sports like karate, or kung-fu. Personally I think pencak silat is more powerfull than any of the other sports. However, my opinion may be biased and of course I am not an expert on that subject.Apart from my personal favorite above, there were so many other things to see: food, indonesian beer (bintang!) clothings, even more food, shows of music, literary discussions, cooking seminars, etc., etc...You name it, it is there. I would advise anyone to visit Pasar Malam Besar next year. I think it will be a special one, since next year will be the 50st year the Pasar will be held. So be clever and order your tickets for the Pasar Malam Besar 2008 before it is sold out!The website of the Pasar Malam Besar The Hague is here.More of my pictures of the PMB can be found here.Rick Wezenaar© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

1 week in Tunisia
2007-11-11 10:10:23
*** all photos from tunisia viewable here ***old woman. Matmata, Tunisia.My boyfriend came up with the idea to go to Tunisia for one week. At first I hesitated. I have my work and it is a busy time. But, on second thought, I really needed a break, and I also wanted to try out the new camera I bought, the Olympus 770 SW. The 770 SW is compact camera of the year, shockproof, and waterproof (up to 10 meters depth), and since I didn't have much time to play with it yet, I decided this would be a good opportunity. Now, please don't think this is a camera one can compare with a professional or even semi-professional digital reflex. Because you can't. The quality of the pictures is just not good enough: it sometimes doesn't see the lighting very well (which causes the camera to take the wrong set...

Hiya all...Not surprisingly it was rather quiet the day after the Pride">Gay Pride. But, it was very nice weather, and I decided to go into town to test my new lens, the Zuiko 7-14mm ED Super Wide Angle. It's amazing what beautiful and sometimes "expressive" photos one can make with this lens. I am glad I can share these with you on my blog...More pictures here.Rick© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

He is responsible for the offerings of the villagers. Whenever there is an offering to the spirits of the dead, he is the one who brings that offering, with the right ceremony and prayers. This, by the way, is not islam, but this is based on the old animism beliefs of the Buginese people.)Receding water, Ganesha Beach, Bali, Indonesia.Sunset at Tana Lot, Bali, Indonesia.Old man at Tana Lot, Bali, Indonesia.That's it for now, folks. tambora vulcano at sumbawaSome shots from the airplanes (we flew about 6 times during our stay). Tip: Flying in Indonesia is very cheap, compared with prices in Europe and for instance the US, and despite what is said in the west about safety, flying in Indonesia is relatively safe, especially if you stick with Garuda as much as you can. Anyway, upgrading your ticket to Garuda Business / Executive Class is completely affordable and I would certainly recommend it!vulcano merapi at yogyakartavulcano at java island (en route from Bali to yogyakarta)the same vulcanu upclose...lombok and the gili islands (gili meno, gili air and gili trawangan)komodo islandsomewhere between bali and flores*** More photographs about Indonesia here. ***© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved

// Underwater Photographs ~ Indonesia 2007
2007-11-11 10:06:47
Fish says Hello, Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.Just before I went to Indonesia I bought an Olympus Stylus 770SW which is a perfect compact camera for 'outdoorsy' people ;) Shockproof, Waterproof, Crushproof, and still a very reasonable image quality (semi professional quality, 7.1 Megapixels), and a beautiful design aswell (for me, that is, I also heard others who thought is was downright ugly...;)). The main reason I bought it was because I wanted to do some snorkling, and I thought it would be nice if I could take some nice photographs of that to share with you all. Well people, I made some pretty nice photos and movies underwater. Here's a small collection for you all...RickSome fish (can someone tell me what kind?) at Gili Trawangan.Coral, Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.Turtle at Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.Turtle diving, Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.Turtle grabbing some air, Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.This coral looks like brainmatter...The Gili Islands always have very clear water...more 'brainmatter', Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia.*** More photographs about Indonesia here. ***© Copyright // Rick Wezenaar Photography ~ All rights reserved
