Canon EOS 5D MkII - 3D - 4D or 7D
2008-07-09 16:59:00
Rumours have been around for a while now regarding the update to the middle aged Canon 5D.There have been many stories circulating that this camera may take the form of a 3D, 4D or the 7D. I wouldn't be surprised if a 6D has been mentioned somewhere but from what I hear the 7D is the favourite. So far though, the reality of a successor to one of the greatest cameras ever built is still the stuff of myth.Possible 5D MKII Specifications :- 16 MP full frame CMOS sensor- Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III- Dual Digic III with all-new “CXR” NR system.- 14 bit A/D conversion- ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement- All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor.- Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses- 300,000 exposure shutter d...

2008-07-09 15:56:00
The Seculine Action Level is a clever little device that works as a digital spirit level. It fits neatly onto the hotshoe of virtually any SLR or Digital SLR.The Action Level uses 5 LEDs in a"traffic light" type way to indicate when the camera is level, ensuring you keep the horizon level. The brightness of these LEDs can also be adjusted. It may be a little expensive when compared to the more conventional spirit level, but it makes a great addition to the "modern" photographer's gadget bag....

Canon LPE5 Digital Camera Battery
2008-07-09 15:30:00
The Canon LPE5 digital camera battery is the battery you will require if you are the lucky owner of the new Canon EOS 450D or the soon to be available EOS 1000D.Whilst developing these new camera models, Canon recognised photographers require their camera to take 100s more shots before the battery dies. With this in mind the capacity was increased, without increasing the size or weight of the battery too much. This enabled them to keep the size and overall weight of the camera to a minimum. At 1050mAh, the Canon LP-E5 is around twice the capacity of the Canon NB2L battery used in the earlier EOS 350D and EOS 400D....

Camera Batteries
2008-05-28 10:45:00
With more exiting things to spend your hard earned on, one item of photography paraphernalia that could save you a few pennies could be an equivalent camera battery. When it comes to a choice of equivalent batteries there are a few to consider. The cheapest available are the generic brands. These batteries can have a slight difference in the mAh.Next are the branded batteries either by camera accessory companies like HAMA or battery specialists like UNIROSS. Both the brands are the nearest you can get to the real thing without paying for the label. They both are manufactured to high standard and usually have the same mAh, lasting 500-1000 charges. As a Canon owner I have used several battery brands including the HAMA BP-51...

Photography - Science Vs Art
2008-05-09 09:58:00
With the technology available today for even the most amateur of happy snapper to create something and show it on their wall through the use of a camera and the digital darkroom. One question is - When does a photograph become art?Another question could be - What really is a photograph?I tend to go with the opinion that if the technology is available to create something through skill, be that with a camera, or a camera with a computer, then why not take advantage of it.The pioneers did so by adjusting their images with differing chemicals and varying exposure times in the darkroom, long before digital motion blurs and curves were even dreamt of. So is there a difference? As a general rule I would say that if I plan to manipulate an image with the use of photoshop, then this process will be ...

Worldwide Memory Card Shortage!
2008-04-25 07:11:00
Flash Memory is likely to go into massive constraints over the next two months, due to shortages in NAND flash from major suppliers such as Samsung, SanDisk, Toshiba and Micron. NAND flash is the memory component used in the manufacture of memory cards. Shortages have been caused due to increased seasonal demand in anticipation of the summer trading period and also due to rumors of a new Apple iPhone. Since Apple switched to flash memory from hard disks, the global flash market has taken a battering on price and stock availability. And with the latest iPhone (no release date as yet) boasting features such as GPS and 3G their is unlikely to be any slow down of demand for flash memory over the next few years.NAND flash memory modules ...

2008-04-18 03:56:00
Flash memory whether it be embedded in a device or in a removable card is known in the industry as NAND flash. The global market year on year has grown massively. Isuppli is a company that measures global growth. In 2007 the global NAND flash market was $13.9 Billion. The forecast was for the market to grow this year by 27%. This prediction has now been slashed to 9% growth ($15.2 Billion) due to the US subprime morgage crisis and the fear of a global recession. So is this a time to grab your mp3 player your SD card and go and jump for the highest building? No.... Whilst other industries may be going into recession, this market is still growing, albeit slower that predicted. With new flash hungry technologies such as Solid ...

Photographers Rights!
2008-03-20 16:41:00
There has been a great deal of press lately surrounding a persons right to take a picture and those who believe they have had their rights infringed by having their picture taken.I hope to help outline some of the legal regulations regarding the rights and restrictions when taking a photo.- Private Property - Owners of property do not normally have the right to prevent somebody taking a photo of their property from a public place. You may photograph whilst invited onto private property with the owners permission. If the owner does not allow you to photograph and you ignore this, from the moment you take a photo you are essentially trespassing as you would be had you not sought permission to be on the property in the first place. - Nb - This rule would gene...

Why Scandisk?
2008-03-14 11:47:00
Why do people say "Scan-disk" when they are talking about "SanDisk?" The two meanings are completely different and only vaguely related. Many people often refer to the world's most popular flash memory brand SanDisk as Scan-disk when talking about a particular flash memory card or USB flash drive. Have a look on the web, do a quick search on Google, web searches are littered with this spelling error, albeit some are deliberate. Try a quick search on Google, e.g. "scandisk ultra" or "scandisk extreme"Well, just in case you don't know what the difference is here goes:"SanDisk" is a multinational corporation which designs and markets flash memory card products. SanDisk is US based and became a publicly traded company on NASDAQUS in 1985. SanDisk is simply a massive company with manufacturing ...

Vosonic are renowned for their Portable Storage Devices and have a wide range available to buy. The big question is - Which one is suitable? Inside the box there is a veritable Swiss Army Knife of various connectors and cables It doesn't appear that I will have a problem connecting the Vosonic to anything.First things first and after a good 24 hour charge I want to use the system for it's primary purpose of Portable Storage. ...

12 Ways to look after your memory card
2008-03-14 03:20:00
Memory cards are small and durable but, like all technology, they are still vulnerable to failure. Here are twelve ways that you can protect and extend the life of your memory card.1. Keep it clean. When your memory card isn't in your camera, keep it in a plastic case or even a plastic bag. This can also protect your camera, as you don't want to be inserting a dusty and dirty card into it. Heed this advice especially if you'll be photographing in sandy areas like deserts or the beach.2. Ensure your batteries are fully charged. If your batteries fail during card usage it may result in file corruption and could even permanently damage your card. Also do not turn off the camera when removing or inserting the card. Keep your rechargeable batteries well charged,...

Compact Flash Compatible?
2008-03-04 08:21:00
I recently received an enquiry from a gentleman who had been told by 'Canon' that his Canon 300D would not be compatible with a compact flash card above 2GB!As a proud 300D owner myself I was particularly interested to put to bed any myths or misconceptions that may be in circulation regarding this matter. According to my informant, he had been told that the 300D would not cope with the high spec cards in production today and only compatible with cards up to 2GB.Another question mark arose around the fact the the 300D was not FAT 32 compatible, as some top end cards require. In order to test the camera I decided to tackle the brand spanking new SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition 4GB. With this card being the fastest compact f...
