Izzi Broadband
2008-08-03 05:02:00
Finally, after months of calling TM and cursing the Streamyx connectivity, I gave up on TM Streamyx. I've had enough of calling them everytime I see the DSL light blinking or went off. But I'll still use my Streamyx though, just that I won't be really bothered in case my Streamyx network goes down. So, for the time being, say hello to Izzi - Mobile Wireless Broadband! I bought the Izziyou package (USB terminal package, 1Mbp & 12 months limited warranty). Note that Izzi Broadband is currently available in Klang Valley area and according to the salesperson, Taipan USJ, KLCC and its surrounding area tops the list in terms of best coverage. Click here for Izzi's coverage map. The sales guy also told me, "Sini Subang, TM tak bleh pakai, so kita promote sini ...

..Munirah - Zainal wedding, Dewan Sivik, P.JPhew, finally an update. A lot of things happened while I was 'away'. I'm starting to get busy with my studies. Tonnes of text books and reading materials to read. I'll probably need to shove aside some of the books on my reading list. Busy days ahead until Hari Raya I guess..And thanks to the bloody Internet connectivity. My home Streamyx connection has been terrible the past few months. I can say it's the worst since using it for the last 5 years or so. I've really had enough of TM Customer Support's troubleshooting guide. I wanted to call TM awhile ago to ask how many calls have I made since May cos they haven't really fixed the problem til now, but the line was busy then and so I gave up after three attempts. Damnit.Hmm, time's up. Later....

Anwar Ibrahim - Shabery Cheek debate
2008-07-15 10:16:00
Anwar - Shabery live debate on Astro Awani channel 501 and TV9, organised by Agendadaily.com (image credit: Malaysiakini)After watching the debate, "Hari ini membentuk kerajaan, esok turun harga minyak", I think it was pretty obvious that Dato' Seri Anwar was the better person. Though Dato' Shabery did brought up some good points, it was no match to the points and details raised by Dato' Seri Anwar. I doubt any UMNO supporters would claim that Shabery 'won' the debate. I'd say Shabery has failed in his duty as a representative of the government to explain the rational and the reason of the government's policy to increase the price of petrol. By saying this I am not implying that I agree with the petrol increase. It is just...

Pay Less Books Sale!
2008-07-13 11:05:00
..'Pay Less Books' Clearance Sale, Bandar Bukit Puchong..4 books for RM4! I would've probably bought more if not because of the heat and the crowd in the small shopThis is quite a long overdue blog entry. All because of the bloody Internet connection lately. The book sale was last week (4-6 July 2008). Anyways, thanks to 'ain for informing me about the clearance sale. This is definitely the clearance sale not to be missed. Here are the books that I've bought home happily. Some of the books might be useful for my research material and there's one which I gave to my sister who is expecting a baby boy somewhere in mid August or early September;1. Insanely Great: The Life and Times of Macintosh, the Computer that Changed Everything - Steven Levy (1994)2. Crusad...

D-War: Dragon Wars
2008-07-13 04:32:00
Plainly speaking, War of the Dragons or D-War: Dragon Wars (in North America), directed by Korean director, Shim Hyung-rae, is such a stupid movie. This is definitely the worst movie that I have watched in 2008 so far. Save for the stunning technical and CG effects, the storyline sucks big time. What's the point of having good effects and all but had an incredibly weak storyline? A good CG effects can never replace a movie storyline. In addition to the ridiculous storyline, the lead characters were poorly developed and there was simply no real climax in the movie. What was supposed to be a 'war of dragons' turned out to be a just a fight for a few minutes between the evil and the good Imoogi towards the end. And I was like, ...

You can narrow down your search for a more better result. This is definitely useful for those searching for academic journals, articles and such. :)Info taken from websearch.about.com...

Dr. Farish Noor and books
2008-07-02 11:01:00
..the blogger, Dr. Farish Noor (sporting a new beard) and Suraya (surprisingly, I bumped into my ex-schoolmate, Suraya at the end of the lecture)This is actually Dr. Farish Noor's third OtherMalaysia.org Lecture Series held at The Annexe Gallery, Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. I missed out the first two series due to my Saturday classes. After looking at the topic of the lecture, "Of Rajas, Dewarajas, Maharajas and Kerajaan: 4000 Years of Feudal Politics in Malaysia and Southeast Asia" on Facebook, I didn't think twice and decided to attend it. Although I often disagree with some of his "liberal minded" writings especially his views on Islam, the notion of the 'Malay' society, the Allah-Malay bible controversy and etc, published on Off The Edge magazine; I still regard him as one of the mos...

Streamyx!
2008-06-29 13:21:00
Gosh, it's really been awhile since I last update this blog. All due to the poor Streamyx connection at home. I'm blogging via Jaring dial-up now at the speed of less than 56k. I really hope there is a more reliable competitor to Streamyx to at least get them to buck up and improve their broadband services! In the meanwhile, check out my mobile blog and Vote for the President of USA! (how I wish it'd be that simple to elect the US President :P)...

Farewell Holland!
2008-06-22 04:45:00
..Dmitri Torbinski strikes past Van der Sar to put Russia 2-1 up (©Getty Images)Sighh... What a dissapointing result for the Netherlands. They beat two 2006 World Cup finalist, Italy and France, comfortably in group stage, but end up losing to a relatively unknown Russia. Thank goodness I didn't watch the match as it would be more frustrating to watch your favourite team lose (Earlier on I watched how stupidly the Selangor team conceded defeat to Kedah in the FA Cup final even though they controlled 65% of the game plus playing against 10-man Kedah team in the last 20 minutes). But anyways, hats off to the Russian coach, Guus Hiddink for bringing the Russian team into the semis for the first time since the 1980s, I think...According to my mobile Google Maps (download it onto your mobile),...

Politics Schmolitics: From Sabah to Perlis
2008-06-18 11:55:00
SAPP No Confidence Vote and a by-election in Perlis. What an interesting political week it has been. First was the bombshell of No Confidence motion announcement by Sabah Progressive Party led by former Sabah Chief Minister, Yong Teck Lee and then a possible by-election in northern state of Perlis, which the election court in Kangar declared the BN state seat of Sanglang is invalid, hence paving the way for a by-election to be held. It is definitely not going to be an easy fight for Barisan. A heavy lose (I would be surprised if BN can pull out a win) in the by-election would further dampen BN-UMNO's popularity among the general public. The opposition will certainly have a lot of issues to raise in especially in the wake of the steep petrol hike, food prices and such.On another different is...

Lat and Obama
2008-06-16 12:46:00
..Lat & Easy: US Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama in Malaysia? In previous blog entry, I missed out another one of the most important feature in the NST; Lat's cartoons. Picture above is one of Lat's weekly cartoon in the NST. It features Democrat presidential candidate, Barack Obama, paying a visit to Malaysia (?) Unlike Lat's other caricatures, this one really took me a while to understand the underlying message behind it. It looks pretty straight forward - Obama entering a Malaysian house with all his supporters holding banners and placards standing outside the door, the Atuk turning on the tv news, one Indian lady shouting, "Eh, Obama..!" and the surprise face from the rest of the people in the house. One character slightly missing here is the Secret Service agent on the far right, we...

Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
2008-06-15 12:08:00
..Bright Eyes - Cassadaga..Conor Oberst (c) and the Bright Eyes on stage (image source: isolation.tv)Darn it. I'm 14 months late. This album was released on April 2007. Well, it's definitely not easy to keep track every single updates when you have close to 500 bands in collection. Out of curiosity, I googled the term 'Cassadaga' and found out that it is actually a native American word meaning "Water beneath the rocks". Anyways, I've read the review of the album from Absolutepunk.net, and it looks really good. Can't wait to finish downloading it. Yay, another good music to my ears. Hoping that it could be better than their previous album "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning". But I doubt it'll be as sucky as New Found Glory's.(all following albums after "Sticks and...

Guru Azlan Ghanie and Silat
2008-06-13 22:57:00
"Journalist Azlan Ghanie wants to make Malaysia the martial arts center of the world. In order to achieve this, he produces a martial arts magazine and teaches his own brand of silat." Seni Beladiri Editor and the Guru of Seni Silat Melayu Keris Lok 9, Azlan Ghanie was featured in The Star Online today. I had the chance of meeting him four years ago in KL when I participated in one of the many seminars organized by the Silat Melayu Keris Lok 9, the "Seminar Pahlawan Melayu Pahang, Adat & Adab Keris", which was then officiated by the Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Pahang, Dato' Hj. Abdul Wahid. I've been meaning to resume my silat practise/training since I graduated from uni three years ago, but sadly due to other commitments and er procrastinations perhaps, it d...

Dutch on course to the Cup final
2008-06-13 16:26:00
..Goalscorers Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder celebrate (©Getty Images)It is not that often that I blog about football, but today was something extraordinary. The Netherlands played one of the best game in Euro 2008 so far, trashing World Cup 2006 finalist, France 4-1. They started out pretty slow in the first half even though they control most of the game. The Dutch only began to built up their momentum in the second half, when Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie was brought in. Their counter attack was simply superb. The fourth goal by Sneijder could be one of the best in the tournament. It was unbelievable how he rammed the ball into the net within such an acute angle. With this second win, The Netherlands booked a place in the quarterfinals. It is interesting to see tw...

NST, Pak Lah and Tun Dr. Mahathir
2008-06-13 08:22:00
The time has finally come for me to say goodbye to New Straits Time (NST). Mom has decided to stop buying NST and has told the newspaper vendor to replace it with The Star. A bit of mixed feelings actually cos this is the paper that I grew up with. Lazarus Rokk, Khalid Redza and few other Sports editors are some of the names which I can still recall since my primary school days in the early 90s. NST today is no longer the same as during Dato' A. Kadir Jasin's era or the previous Group Editor in Chiefs before him. NST used to have a lot of good columns and articles to read, but not anymore. Save for Johan Jaafar's weekly Saturday column, I don't find any other column worth reading by the rest of the NST columnist, including the writings by the so-called Singaporean agent, Mr. Kalimullah Mas...

CMIWS Professors in the news
2008-06-12 11:00:00
Bernama: Nation State Concept Will Never Threaten Malay RightsBy Soraya JamalKUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- The nation state concept will never water down or dispute the Malay supremacy as the rights of the Malays is well entrenched in the Constitution.Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)s senior fellow for the Centre for Media and Information Warfare Studies (CMIWS), Prof Madya Munis Paran told this to Bernama, here, recently."The position of the Malay rulers, Bahasa Melayu as the national language, Islam as the official religion and the special rights of the Bumiputera is well enshrined in the Constitution. The concept of the nation state integration can never dispute whatever is written in the Constitution", he said.Munis Paran said in the nation state concept, the 'state' is an organis...

Palestine: Peace not Apartheid by Jimmy Carter
2008-06-11 22:40:00
I've finally finished reading Jimmy Carter's book (left). It is definitely worth reading I would say. The book is written in an autobiography style based on Carter's experience in propagating peace in the Middle East as President of USA in late 70s to date.As a short review of the book, it is clear that it is the Zionist Israeli government (I shall mention Zionist Israelis here as there are a few minority group of peace loving Israeli citizen and Jewish rabbis who are against the Israel's imperialism policy in Occupied Palestine) who does not want to establish peace in the Holy land, because peace means; withdrawal of Israeli armed forces in the occupied Palestinian territories and the dismantling of the illegal settlement in Arab lands in occupied ...

Coldplay - Viva La Vida
2008-06-07 13:17:00
..Coldplay used the Liberty Leading the People (French: La Liberté guidant le peuple) painting by Eugène Delacroix in commemorating the French Revolution, as their cover album. Here's another much awaited new release by one of UK's best band, Coldplay! According to Wikipedia, the new album is due to be released worldwide on 16th June. But as usual, you can always find it on Torrent sites first. (Viva la Vida.mp3 download link below)Some interesting trivia of Viva La Vida according to Shahnon.com;1. A lot of death related song titles, i.e. 'Death and All His Friends', 'Cemeteries of London' and '42'.2. The intro of 'Viva la Vida' (my favorite song) sounds very much similar to Alizee's song, 'J'en Ai Marre' and apparently the song, 'Viva la Vida' is about the French Revolution (see chorus b...

Petrol hike madness!
2008-06-06 10:25:00
..the petrol price news dominated some of my friends' Yahoo status on the day Pak Lah announced the sharp petrol increaseMany have commented, blogged and analysed this issue and my first reaction was - unbelievable. I was expecting the increase to be in August and was so shocked when I first read the news online and saw the 'RM2.70' on the headline. I sat in disbelief, thinking hard how could Pak Lah made such an unpopular decision? Especially after the humiliating election results for Barisan Nasional. It's like a political suicide. Dear Mr. Prime Minister, please remember that 'angry' and 'hungry' citizens are able to overthrow the government. I'm not an economist, but I think the government now has got no choice but to be more transparent in this issue...

Petrol price increase?
2008-06-02 08:36:00
Brace yourself for yet another petrol hike this coming August. If you read the latest report in NST, it looks like a cleverly devised news headline. Make sure you read til the end. And there seems to be conflicting views by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah Badawi and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad. Pak Lah said, "might be", while Shahrir Samad said that petrol price will go up, beginning August. Read the following report;NST: New fuel subsidy announcement on Wednesday We need to look into it (fuel subsidy) again to make sure it will the best that we can do for our people,” Abdullah said.He said this when asked to comment on Domestic Trade and Consumer Affiars Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad’s statement that fuel price w...

Tun Dr Mahathir and UMNO
2008-05-21 11:20:00
So the great old Tun Dr. Mahathir has finally resigned. Sigh.. As a big fan of Tun ever since my school days, to read the news about him resigning from UMNO is just too sad. I've always held high respect for him, but I feel, resigning from the party won't solve anything. As much as I don't agree much with Mat Taib, I think he is right when he said that "history not on Mahathir's side..".“(Founder) Datuk Onn (Jaafar) left to start Parti Negara but the Malays stayed (with Umno). Tunku Abdul Rahman, (and) Tun Hussein (Onn) were not in Umno when they died."Tun's resignation will only benefit the opposition, especially Anwar Ibrahim. My only worry is the consequences of Tun's resignation to the grassroots leaders and members. I honestly don't see any benefit to UMNO when some division members...

Karpal Singh vs Sultan Perak
2008-05-05 14:11:00

Pennywise and Anti-Flag's latest album
2008-05-03 12:08:00
..Pennywise - Reason to Believe..Anti-Flag - The Bright Lights Of AmericaNot really the best though. Anti-Flag's For Blood And Empire (2006) and The Terror State (2003) are arguably among the best by Anti-Flag. Sometimes I feel I learn more about American politics and their foreign policy by listening to these bunch of left-inclined-anti war-anti capitalist political punk rock bands. :p...

Tun Dr. Mahathir blogs!
2008-05-01 05:39:00
“This site is dedicated to publishing my writings as and when I am able to pen my thoughts and opinion,” he says.Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has started his own blog (Chedet.com), using his old pen name, Che Det, when he wrote for the Straits Times newspaper in the 60s. This is definitely an interesting development in Malaysian blogosphere. To me, it didn't really came as a surprise, as I feel it is just a matter of time before Tun starts his own blog. Many people in the past have asked Tun about setting up a blog and now finally the time has come. Next in-waiting, is his yet to be published memoir! He started his first post by writing on the judicial reform issues by saying that there is no details mentioned on how the recently announced Judicial Appointments Commis...
