Awful Carnage in Mumbai, India a Reminder of World's Instability
2008-11-28 13:31:00
I just can't help but feel for the people of Mumbai, India. The last three days there have been pure hell, with three hotels under siege and with more than 125 people now dead, including a New York rabbi and his young daughter.
The scenes I've seen on CNN-IBN have been like nothing we can ever imagine. And they're a stark reminder of just how unstable this world truly is--even in lands where democracy is alive and well. Of course, for the people of Mumbai (formerly Bombay), this is their own version of Sept. 11.
If you have some free time, take a few minutes to watch live coverage from CNN-IBN by clicking here ....

Hoping to bring the blog back
2008-11-08 20:01:00
Well, it's been nearly two months since I last posted--and in between posts, the United States of America elected itself a new president. While I'm not sure this site can ever be what it once was--I am hoping to return to posting regularly, more so with opinions than anything else. Given my new schedule, it's near impossible to keep the site at a level it once was, with coverage of several towns.
With that said, when I first started the blog, I did it as a hobby so I could continue to write as much as possible. And with luck, in the coming days, I'll be able to restart that.
Check back, will you?
My sincerest thanks to everyone who made this place special for nearly two years. My only wish is that I could dedicate as much time to the site as I used to--but that's the nature of this world and this economy to boot.
We'll talk soon!

Enough with the conservative pundits already
2008-09-23 19:01:00
I can't help but get a laugh out of what the conservative talk show hosts say about the media. Today, for instance, I heard Steve Malzberg jump all over Bob Scheiffer. I heard Sean Hannity discuss how the media gives Sen. Joe Biden passes all the time, while they pounce on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
It's not so much their critical nature that I question—it's their universal dismissal of the media that gets me. The people they speak of go on the air, once a day, for about an hour. Scheiffer gets a little longer each week because he hosts "Face the Nation." But outside of him, most of the so-called media members Hannity and Malzberg speak of have less airtime than they do.
Malzberg is on the air from 4 to 6 p.m. each day for a total of 10 hours of airtime each week, and Hannity is on the air from 3 to 6 p.m. on the radio and 9 to 10 p.m. on Fox News each weekday for a total of 20 hours a week. This figure doesn’t include "Hannity's America," which airs a lot weekends on Fox News, and ...

NOW endorses Obama-Biden ticket
2008-09-16 20:29:00
The National Organization for Women has endorsed the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden for the presidency and vice presidency of the United States. NOW rarely endorses candidates.
STATEMENT OF KIM GANDY
Chair, National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC)
Sept. 16, 2008
It is with great enthusiasm that I announce today, on behalf of the nation's oldest and largest women's rights organization, that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) proudly endorses Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.
It is no coincidence that I am joined in this announcement by so many allied organizations that collectively represent a broad and diverse cross-section of U.S. women. From teachers to social workers, from business owners to college students, women in this country are lining up behind the candidate who is out there every day standing up -- clearly and consistently -- for women. Women of all ages, races an...

McCain's arrogance highlighted in interview on MSNBC
2008-09-16 17:12:00
John McCain, Sarah Palin and the McCain Campaign have gone way overboard with their assault on the media. And it was never more clear than in an interview McCain did with Mike Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough on MSNBC.
Responding to a question from Mika [I'll use her first name since her last name's a pain to spell], McCain called her out as "an Obama supporter." Mika took great exception to McCain's arrogance--and reminded the senator that one of her brothers works on his campaign.
At the end of the discourse--which can only be described as ugly at best--Mika asked the senator one last question--which prompted another absurd McCain remark.
"And senator, as a characterized Barack Obama supporter--I take objection to--take care of my brother working on your campaign," she said.
McCain responded: "Thank you, Mika. Thanks. That was a cheap shot."
You've got to watch the video yourself to believe this.
One last thing from me: God help us if this man gets elected. If this is the kind of nons...

McCain adviser: Economy is fundamentally sound
2008-09-16 05:24:00
This is a great video from "Hardball with Chris Matthews." Here, Chris interviews Nancy Pfotenhauer, a McCain policy adviser, who is trying to say the current economy is fundamentally sound! You have to see for yourself to believe this. [By the way, it's interviews like this that help me to realize why I love Chris Matthews, who was unfairly dealt with by MSNBC--they yanked him off the election-time anchor desk].

Fey plays Palin on SNL
2008-09-13 22:41:00
Tina Fey played the role of Sarah Palin on the season premiere of "Saturday Night Live," and you'd hardly know--based on looks and accent--that it wasn't really Palin. [I'll admit it: it took me a while to realize it really wasn't Palin]. Here's a look at the two of them. Can you tell which photo is Fey and which is Palin?
Update: Here's YouTube video of the segment. Not sure how long it'll last up on YouTube once NBC realizes it's up--so feel free to let me know if it gets yanked.

Palin's disgraceful performance in interview with Charles Gibson signals doom if she gets elected with McCain
2008-09-12 19:02:00
If there's ever been a time to question the absurdity of some Republican pundits--think Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Steve Malzberg, Bill O'Reilly--now's the time. Each of these four buffoons went on the air today and rated Sarah Palin's performance in her interview with Charles Gibson as remarkable.
Their ridiculous assessments--clouded by their already deep hatred for so many people in this country--demonstrate that no matter what a candidate says, no matter what a candidate does, the issues don't matter. Political parties do. And that's a shame.
Now please--don't write to me if you're going to complain about Joe Biden and Barack Obama. Now is not the time for that. This is solely about Palin and her underwhelming performance last night on ABC with Gibson.
There were so many instances where Palin failed abysmally that I won't even get into all of them. You can watch the video after you read this [I'll embed it below]. And after you watch the video, if you can honestly say, with a ...
