| Baker & Daniels' Real Estate practice climbs in Midwest rankings |

INDIANAPOLIS -- Baker& Daniels LLP has once again been named to the Midwest Estate">Real Estate News annual list of top real estate law firms, announced in the magazine's May issue. The firm climbed six spots from last year to become the highest ranked Indiana law firm at No. 21.Baker & Daniels' real estate team completed more than 160 transactions in 2007, with 46 deals worth $15 million or more. The Midwest Real Estate News rankings recognized real estate deals completed throughout the Midwest from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 in 2007.

First, to clear up the confusion: Last July, Daniels froze tax bills in Marion County at 2006 levels and ordered a new reassessment because of evidence that business property had been undervalued, creating a higher-than-expected burden on homeowners. Residents in some neighborhoods were facing tax hikes of 50 to 300 percent and a rebellion was in full swing.The revolt helped underdog Greg Ballard beat incumbent Democratic Mayor Bart Peterson last fall. A new hotel complex is expected to bring hundreds of new rooms to downtown Indianapolis in time for the 2012 Super Bowl.White Lodging and REI Real Estate Services are breaking ground Thursday on the $425 million JW Marriott Indianapolis complex on a seven-acre site overlooking White River State Park.The complex will include three hotels, including a 34-story JW Marriott Tower with more than 1,000 rooms.

Manolis is not alone: Nearly 30,000 homeowners in Marion County are likely to receive revised bills higher than their original 2007 bills because of the reassessment, according to an analysis by The Indianapolis Star.More than 20,000 of those who will end up paying more are in Center Township, where The Star found seven census tracts in which bills are likely to increase for 75 percent or more of the homeowners. Across the township, bills are expected to increase on four of every 10 homes.

| February home and condominium sales in Central Indiana rose 1 percent |

F.C. Tucker Co. said that overall in the nine-county region, sales of 2,132 homes were pending in February, compared to 2,113 in February 2007. Tucker said in a news release that could indicate that the local housing market is starting to rebound.Along with an increase in total February sales, five of the nine counties in the Indianapolis area posted an increase: Hancock County reported 25 more homes pending, a 46.3 percent increase. Sales in Shelby County jumped 21.9 percent, Morgan County increased 19.6 percent, and Marion County improved 1.5 percent.The average sales price is down 4.1 percent between Februarys, decreasing from $143,174 to $137,363.
