Some “great” answers given by HR professional
2012-05-12 10:11:00
Following are answers given by some HR professionals during different interviews. All these professionals were having around 8-19 years of so –called experience in HR and were working with good Indian companies. What is competency? In simple words, it is right person at right job on right time (!!!!!!!!!)(Oh… what a simple answer…)What is KRAs?Key Result AreasYes I know what KRA stands for, but what does it mean?It is day to day activities what employee is performingHave you identified KRAs, KPIs,?Yes.How?We circulated blank forms sent by corporate HR; we get it filled from department heads as on time.(Good job of getting filled forms on time… in his CV he had mentioned that he had an experience of implementing Performance Management System in his current organization.)You have...

Masculine and Feminine Power
2012-05-05 10:07:00
Lord Krisha says, “Radha is neither separate nor different from me. Radha is within me and I am within Radha. In every man, there is a woman and in every woman there is a man. This is balancing the whole universe.” The whole world is in competition mode and wants more.  People are hungry of power. Have you noticed, how many brands have in supermarkets? How many brands are you using, few! But we are behind more…. more brands, more salary, more cars….The reason is competition of being ahead and survival. These few characteristics are of masculine mentality, mindset and therefore of masculine power… These characteristics are everywhere in business, society, families and communities. We are paying the price of this masculine energy. Terrorism, aggression, bullying, bossing, stre...

Rewards
2012-04-30 08:00:00
Your reward should be based on the outcome. When my son got first appreciation in his school, I bought Cadbury for him. He was happy and excited to get both. Next time, when same thing repeated, he was happy about the appreciation, but not for the Cadbury. I realized that only same reward is not always work. My wife is more smart in this. She told him during his final exam preparations that he would get his favourite Bumblebee transformer if he works hard to score the numbers and he did that. She has defined the (unwritten) reward policy for him and it works well. The range of rewards includes viewing favourite “Doreman show” to toy and most of the time good and motivating words. Human being is same and rewards have to be defined considering this human dimension in mind.  Once the ...

Throw thy labels….
2012-04-21 10:29:00
When I was kid, different guests used to visit our home. Most of the guests used to interact with me. They used to ask me different questions and would give me money for candies and chocolates. They would tell my parents that I am smart boy… In school, I was, off course, first -bencher and reasonably good in academics. Once during our examination, some students were caught while copying the answers from cheats, they had bought. Teacher scolded those students and pointed towards me, saying, “See that student, he studies, works hard and gets numbers and you…? Learn from him…”My parents, relatives, friends, teacher and people in society labeled me, smart boy, good boy, intelligent boy etc. etc…. These positive labels given by different people, made me more positive and responsible...

Some leadership rudiments...
2012-04-06 09:00:00
Leadership and leadership development is the hot and extensively discussed topic. There are different theories on leadership. People learn these theories during Leadership Workshops and training programmes and try to implement in their day to day life. I have also written a lot on leadership on this blog. Sometimes leaders are recognized when they are successful. The common phenomenon of recognition is “success is after all success.”Most of the HR professionals, CEOs, trainers and so called coaches claim their initiatives on leadership development. Every organizations focuses on leadership however fundamental question on leadership still remains valid, “Are leaders born or made?”  “Leadership inputs” to be effective professional will always help, however it is continuous p...

Human and animals….
2012-03-31 03:08:00
During  training programmes, to break the ice, we ask participants to introduce themselves in a special way. Sometimes we ask to take some time to understand the next person and introduce him to other participants; sometimes we ask to relate themselves with one animal and so on… Relating with certain animal is interesting. Participants relate themselves to different animals and sometimes particular species of the animal. It is more interesting to understand why they relate to particular animal. Dog, Cat, Tiger, Elephant, Monkey are the animals which score more in relating. Fox, Wolf are rarely related by the participants. One participant related to the Tiger, but specifically to “White Tiger”. He mentioned that he has rare skill sets and likes to identify himself as different. I...

Leaders selling insurance policies!
2012-03-23 09:42:00
Have you seen factory of making leaders? I have seen the board of one management institute on Mumbai –Pune highway. In Pune, there are lots of so-called management institutes who claim that they make leaders for industries. These institute offers post graduate management courses to students who have lot of money and their fathers don’t know what to do with that money.  Surprisingly, there are few institutes which do not pay the salaries of their employees on time. There are few institutes who are run by the people who don’t know what management means. Still most of these institutes manage their (paid) ranking published by some magazines and economics periodicals. These periodicals carry survey for the ranking. Institutes pay for the advertorials (paid advertisements published in...

Chase the dream...
2012-03-16 10:10:00
“Chase the dream, they will realized.” This is the reaction of master blaster Sachin Tendular after he scored his 100th century against Bangladesh. Sachin Tendular is a very positive person; I have never heard him speaking anything negative. There are lots of people in the world who dream and they succeed. There are also lots of people who also dream and never succeed. The irony is they see the dream and they don’t believe on their own dream. Everybody has dreams regarding work, relationships, health and personal development. The million dollar question is what takes them to realize their dream. The problem is that they don’t chase their dream. They see the dream and they forget the dream. And they sigh “Kash….(perhaps…)”Sachin Tendular saw the dream; he chased it till he r...

BHAG
2012-03-11 09:41:00
BHAG is impossible but attainable goal statement. Frankly speaking, I was not aware what “BHAG” means till 2007. When I was involved in implementing Balanced Scorecard in my previous organization, I came to know this terminology during one initial workshop on Balanced Scorecard. Off course, Balanced Scorecard has not directly related to BHAG, but has some connection.  I like it very much and read more about the same.  This terminology was first used by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras in their book, Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies. They encourage organizations to develop a “big, hairy, audacious goal” (BHAG, pronounced bee-hag)—a bold strategic vision statement that has powerful emotional appeal. Balanced Scorecard is also based on the strong ...
