Achieving your goals
2008-12-09 07:55:44
Did you make any new years' resolutions in January? How many of them are you still on track with?We all have goals. And we all set them for ourselves all the time. But usually we don't know it - we're not being very conscious. In this article I want to discuss a few ideas which may help you to set goals more consciously and also introduce a practical way to actually get them achieved.Create specific goalsI don’t think I’ve ever read a self-improvement book or anything on the law of attraction that didn’t emphasize in some way the importance of goal setting. Actually, we all set goals all the time, it’s just that usually we do it unconsciously, and most of the goals people set are pretty odd. ‘I’m going to be exhausted by the end of the week. This meeting is going to be boring, ...

Double your income doing what you love - book review
2008-12-09 07:55:44
I have just finished reading 'Double your income doing what you love' by Raymond Aaron. A provocative title, to be sure! Aaron’s book is a set of instructions for achieving goals using principles in tune with the much talked about ‘law of attraction’. Like most books in this area, this one is a mixture of good and not so good, but there are some real gems here. The following is a distillation of the important points as I saw them.Set goals and record them. By setting goals you are already ahead of the game. Most people don’t know where they’re heading and so they can’t get there. Writing goals is a powerful signal to yourself that you intend to achieve them. The feelings invoked by this process call into motion the law of attraction, which starts to operate to get things done w...

Do you want to be rich? Just say yes!
2008-12-09 07:55:44
Money isn’t real. If you were on a desert island with a suitcase full of money – I mean millions and millions of dollars – and nothing else, you’d probably starve to death. Your only chance would be to learn, and learn fast, how to keep warm (possibly by burning the money, though that wouldn’t last very long), how to catch your dinner, what kinds of plants you can and can’t eat, how to build a shelter, how to treat your inevitable injuries, and so on and so on. You money wouldn’t help you. You might survive, but I doubt it.The only reason it helps you in your non-desert-island-life is because we live in a big community where everyone has different skills and we trade those skills (sometimes in very indirect and convoluted ways) with the brilliant concept of money. And that’...

Easy Money
2008-12-09 07:55:44
I know what we've all been told - If you want to get rich, you’ve got to work hard! But don’t you know people who’ve worked hard all their lives and are still really poor? I’m sure we all know a lot of people like this – maybe you’re one of them. I call them the hard working poor.Does that mean that getting rich doesn’t depend on how hard you work? Well, my answer to that is – yes and no. You see, it all depends on what you mean by ‘work.’This blog is called Effortless Wealth. But you see, Effortlessness is not laziness; it is not inertia; it is not sitting back and doing nothing and expecting all good things to come your way. No, you’ve got to do something. Maybe you’ve got to do a lot. Maybe you’ve got to get up early, keep going all day long and get to bed tired...

Money grows on trees
2008-12-09 07:55:44
Abundance is our natural state of beingAbundance is not a struggle. You don’t have to fight to be rich, to be happy, to be successful, to have great relationships… It’s not as if there’s a limited resource and we all have to fight to get our piece of it. There’s abundance for everyone, and there always has been. Money really does grow on trees. We live in the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. But some of us are starving to death because we can’t see what’s in front of our eyes. Here’s a story which I recall reading in Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now.There’s a beggar sitting on an old wooden box, and he’s been sitting there for years – he sits on it on the street and begs for money. One day someone walks past and tells the old beggar that he has...

The law of attraction is a lie!
2008-12-09 07:55:44
As I mentioned in another article, the ‘law of attraction’ seems to have grown into something of a cult, with people wanting to identify themselves as ‘believers’ of ‘non-believers.’ Some people have taken this quite far and are defending their position, one way or the other, quite vociferously. There has recently been quite a backlash to the ‘law of attraction,’ in the form of websites, e-books and blogs propagating an idea called the ‘lie of attraction.’ For example, people like Sam Crowley and Michael Cheney have some significant objections to the law of attraction as it is popularly presented. People are becoming very emotional about it all. An anonymous writer on one blog, for example, writes ‘The law of attraction is BS…Though the basic idea for the law of attr...

How to succeed at anything
2008-12-09 07:55:44
Success is very simple. But it is not very easy for most people. In fact, success boils down to two simple steps.1. Set goals – have an intention to do, have or be something2. Keep acting in a way which is consistent with your goalsJust doing these two things will almost certainly make you a success. The trouble is that most people don’t do either of them. Most people drift along aimlessly, not really knowing where they are going and having no clear vision of the future. If you ask most people why the get out of bed in the morning, why they work, what is the purpose of their life, they won’t be able to tell you. The few people who actually set goals are way ahead of the crowd. And those who take the second step, and keep acting to support their goals make up the tiny minority o...

Believe and succeed
2008-12-09 07:55:44
Our life is what our thoughts make it.Marcus Aurelius A belief is something you consider to be true. You cannot decide to believe one thing this week and another, opposing thing, next week. You might think you can, but it really doesn’t work like that. I read recently that baby circus elephants are tied to a strong metal post with a heavy chain because they will try to escape and expend a lot of energy on pulling at their tether. After some time, they accept that they will not be able to escape and so stop pulling. The adult elephants are tethered to a wooden stake with a light rope: they could easily escape, but they believe they are unable to do so, and so the light tethering works as a kind of symbol of their bondage. It is clear that whether your beliefs are true or not is irrelevant...

We’re all going to die!
2008-05-27 06:31:10
Look at everythingas though you were seeing it either for the first or last time.then your time on earthwill be filled with glory.Betty Smith, novelist (1896-1972)Today as I was eating lunch, a shiver ran through my body. My mother used to say that when this happens, someone has walked over your grave. Not a pleasant thing to say, you might imagine, but it got me thinking (again) about death, something I haven’t done for a very long time. You’re going to die. Of course you are. Everyone over the age of about ten knows that. And today we are nearer to our own death than ever before. Last week we were further away. Yesterday we were further away. But today is the closest we have ever been to that moment when life finally gets snuffed out.We don’t know when death will come to greet us. I...

What are you grateful for?
2008-05-26 03:26:05
The Newspaper I was flicking through today carried an article claiming that the suicide rate in Hong Kong peaks in May and June. This is just the opposite of what you might think, but it could be that people get more depressed since there is no long holiday to look forward to and the weather is getting worse – hot, humid and unpleasant with lots of rain and storms.read more | digg story ...
