I have just finished reading 'Double your income doing what you love' by Raymond Aaron. A provocative title, to be sure! Aaron’s book is a set of instructions for achieving goals using principles in tune with the much talked about ‘law of attraction’. Like most books in this area, this one is a mixture of good and not so good, but there are some real gems here. The following is a distillation of the important points as I saw them.Set goals and record them. By setting goals you are already ahead of the game. Money isn’t real. If you were on a desert island with a suitcase full of money – I mean millions and millions of dollars – and nothing else, you’d probably starve to death. Your only chance would be to learn, and learn fast, how to keep warm (possibly by burning the money, though that wouldn’t last very long), how to catch your dinner, what kinds of plants you can and can’t eat, how to build a shelter, how to treat your inevitable injuries, and so on and so on. You might think you can, but it really doesn’t work like that. I read recently that baby circus elephants are tied to a strong metal post with a heavy chain because they will try to escape and expend a lot of energy on pulling at their tether. The Newspaper I was flicking through today carried an article claiming that the suicide rate in Hong Kong peaks in May and June. This is just the opposite of what you might think, but it could be that people get more depressed since there is no long holiday to look forward to and the weather is getting worse – hot, humid and unpleasant with lots of rain and storms.read more | digg story
