Nate Robertson Already Rewarded The Loss For Saturday.
2009-08-27 11:24:03
Time play the "which would you rather have?" game.In a the bottom of the ninth with the winning run on second, would you rather have Placido Polanco or Miguel Cabrera at the plate? Would you prefer to be really good looking with no money, or very wealthy and quite ugly? Would you rather have syphilis or herpes? Would you rather get hit by a bus or a train?Would you rather Armando Galarraga or Nate Robertson start for the Tigers on Saturday? If you haven't already heard, I apologize for being the one to give you such terrible nightmares, but Nate Robertson will toe the rubber for the playoff contending Detroit Tigers on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Let me repeat that. Nate Robertson and his 7.71 ERA will throw against a highly energized, youthful and powerful Tampa Bay Rays team, tha...

Detroit Lions Camp Pep Rally Articles
2009-08-27 11:06:40
Every year during training camp our Detroit Lions release stories on their website about our coaches or players. These articles usually talk along the lines of "This player really knows what he'll do to excel this year." From a coach it might say "Defensive coordinator knows what he's looking for."These stories always give us Lions fan the illusion that everything is on the right track for our team. Shoot, how could we be negative about a team that has players and coaches that know what they want this year?I used to get mad at these stories and wax cynical, but you know what, at least the organization is trying to make us happy! I want three months of sunshine, lollipops and smiles before the reality of the regular season sets in. So please Detroit Lions, please kee...

It's Rootbeer, OK?
2009-08-27 11:05:22
After very little debate, the winner of the 'Nickname Adam Wainwright' contest has been announced.
And it's Rootbeer.
The explanation is funny... "You know, A&W.... like his curveball, starts at the head and then it's gone."
But for some reason, Rootbeer just sounds right.
It's original. It's got some explanation behind it. It's the winner.
I've reached out to Redneckburd72 to claim his or her prize. If they don't claim it... then I'll figure out the next in line and give it away.
Thanks for playing.

As always you can find links to each post at the top of the page under "Organizational Depth Analysis"....

Preseason Game 3: Big Roster Battles
2009-08-27 10:24:20
The Washington Redskins are down tot he final 2 preseason games. Most fans cheer that fact. Most fans despise preseason games as boring, meaningless, and full of potential for significant injuries. BUT, to fringe roster players, these games are the most important of their professional football careers. Make or break time. That being said, DCPSR takes a look at what we believe are the main roster battles and players who stand to win or lose. First, you can view the Redskins current ROSTER here. In our assessment here, a * indicates rookie. Let's first look at DEFENSE. Defensive End: The starters are pretty much set and belong to Andre Carter and Phillip Daniels. The spots for backups at this point look strong for veteran Re...

Why did Texas shift on 2010 IndyCar schedule?
2009-08-27 10:15:10
So much for a smooth transition back to work.
If Texas Motor Speedway general manager Eddie Gossage had any plans for an easy return to his duties after undergoing treatment for cancer, they got scotched by a scheduling issue. It's getting serious ink down in the Metroplex.
Here's the details: At first, the IndyCars' 2010 date in Texas was scheduled for Sat., June 12, but word came yesterday that the race had been moved up one week to Sat., June 5 (just six days after the Indianapolis 500).
That's because, according to The Dallas Morning News' Anthony Andro, TMS had to make a special request to NASCAR in order to keep its Friday night NASCAR truck lead-in for the IRL event. Why? There's five Sundays in May 2010 and as a result, the truck race would fall one weekend earlier.
The truck race, dubbed the Winstar World Casino 400, will now be on Fri., June 4, 2010.
You can check out Andro's article and read Gossage's feelings on the conflict. As fo...

No-sa! and pitchers
2009-08-27 09:00:17
In Jorge Sosa's last 5 appearences :
6.1 IP 13H 11R 6BB 7K 2HR 15.63 ERA opponents hitting .448 / .528 / .793 off him
(lest you think I'm being unfair his ERA was still hitting 9.00 before last night's debacle)
Drop the bum!
The Nats say they are interested in "long-term veteran" pitchers. Now assume this is true (which means assume they weren't actually interested in a 42 year old injury plagued John Smoltz) who exactly could the Nats go after this offseason? Here's a list of decent starters (pulled from mvn's "Around the Majors" blog)
Erik BedardJarrod WashburnJoel PineiroKevin MillwoodJason MarquisRandy WolfDoug DavisJohn LackeyTim WakefieldRich HardenAndy PettitteJon GarlandVicente PadillaJose ContrerasBrad PennyCarl Pavano
Ok well let's do some non statistical pruning. I'd be shocked if Randy Wolf signs off of the west coast. Lackey is the best pitcher out there and likely to be the highest paid - ie outbid for by...
