Top In-State QB Choses Rutgers
2008-04-17 06:27:56
From the DelcoTimes
Four months before he’ll begin summer camp at Cardinal O’Hara, quarterback Tom Savage has wrapped up the recruiting process.
According to a source, Savage (6-4, 231) decided Wednesday night to take his talents to Rutgers University, where he’ll play for coach Greg Schiano. The junior chose the Scarlet Knights from a list that included Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Michigan and Louisville.
Savage will hold a press conference at O’Hara Friday afternoon to formally announce his decision. Ranked as the No. 6 quarterback prospect in the country by rivals.com, Savage was unavailable for comment Wednesday night.
So, a good in-state talent from the outskirts of Philly has chosen to go play at Rutgers. But what really stings is the short list. It included teams all around Penn State but not Penn State.

The collegian and police reports have made it official. Last night there were rumors involving Chris Bell and a whole bunch of trouble, now we have details.
From our great friends at the collegian: : http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2008/04/08/police_bell_pulls_knife_...
"Former football player Chris Bell was arrested last night after Penn State Police said he threatened another student with an 8-inch blade during a dispute that yielded no injuries in Pollock Dining Commons."
"He is currently being held in the Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight bail."

From the great journalists at http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20080330_Still_no_deal_for_Penn_St...
Here are some great snippets from the article:
"I don't even care if I get a contract," he said yesterday. "I'll be very frank with you."
"If I wanted a contract, I would go ask for a contract," Paterno said. "If I've got to have a contract to keep my job here, I'm in the wrong place."
"We've won 75 percent of our games," Paterno said. "Three years ago, I'm coach of the year. . . . We're a couple of seconds away from playing for the national championship. Three straight bowls - three wins. I feel good about what we're doing."

So, does anyone think PSU can even find enough players for the Blue/White game? With players getting arrested faster than students throwing ranch dressing on their canyon pizza it's becoming quite a concern.

Tyrell Sales, a Penn State football player from Butler, was arrested following a St. Patrick's Day celebration disturbance at a Station Square nightspot.
Sales, 22, a starting outside linebacker, was charged with defiant trespass and disorderly conduct for the incident that Pittsburgh Police said occurred about 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Margarita Mama's. The city's St. Patrick's Day Parade was held earlier in the day.
That should be 2 fulmer cup points if I remember the rules correctly; charges should stack 1 for the trespass and one for the conduct.

Despite probably not being the starter , because Clark waited his turn -- the whole bit, Devlin says he isn't about to transfer......
http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2008/03/17/devlin_staying_at_psu.as...
FTA:
Aside from the 6 a.m. workout sessions, the redshirt sophomore quarterback often throws the ball around with a few teammates when classes are done for the day. As spring practices loom, Devlin said he feels good about his arm and his current status.
Competing for the starting quarterback position is Devlin's focus, and it won't change if Pryor decides to play for Penn State. And despite Clark being next in line for the starting position, Devlin said he has not thought about transferring.
"He has a chance to do some special things," Lichtenfels said about Devlin. "I personally think he was a better high school quarterback than Morelli was. I expect Pat to maybe be one of the best quarterbacks Penn State has had since Kerry Collins. He's got that type of potential."

STATE COLLEGE — Penn State tight end Andrew Quarless was charged Thursday with DUI after State College police say he was stopped early Sunday while driving with a blood alcohol level of .084 percent.
Quarless had been suspended from the team earlier this week for an unspecified violation of team rules.
Quarless, 19, of Uniondale, N.Y., was stopped at 2:54 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of East College Avenue and South Pugh Street when police said he ran a red light in a white BMW, according to the criminal complaint filed Thursday at the office of District Judge Jonathan Grine.
“Did I go through the red light?” police say Quarless asked the officer.
The complaint said the officer smelled a moderate odor of alcohol on Quarless and that the tight end failed field sobriety tests.
A blood test taken about a half hour later showed Quarless had a .084 BAC, the complaint states.

Iditarod began on Sunday
2008-03-03 17:29:37
It's 20 degrees in Nome Alaska and the teams are on there way into Rainy Pass as DeeDee Jonrowe is leading at this stage of the game, as the top 30 finishers will be trying to reach Nome to get their share of the $875,000 purse.
It's hands down one of the most bad-ass sports in sports, and for those that don't want to view it as a sport....too bad. It's dog-sled racing in farking Alaska; it gets darn cold in Alaska.
And if anyone says that it's cruel and the dogs don't like it; you are so full of it. Those dogs love that stuff; as soon as they know its time to go out and run in the snow, they get all sorts of amped up. It's like throwing a retard in a Chuck-E-Cheese
Let's hope some Huskies rip that snow up, and no one gets hurt

One dictator stands down , one holds strong in defiance
2008-02-19 08:45:03
An ailing man, whom struck fear into the hearts of many for years with an iron fist steped down today. Despite his holding on way past his prime; he cited health as his number one reason for stepping down. He spoke with strong words saying , "it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer."
Was it Joe Paterno? No! It was Fidel Castro. You see, even a communist dictator knew when it was time to step down. You see even Castro had no problems letting go; in July 2006 when he was ill he ceded his powers to his #1 in command. Yet, Penn State doesn't even have that. Just a guy that calls the defense...and of course Joe would never relinquish power to anyone come hell or high water. Broken leg or not.
So now let me ask you this:: If a communist dictator knows when to hang it up; why doesn't Joe?

At a school where the slogan "success with honor" used to always hold true, it's falling further and further away. There was a time where the team would keep its respective nose clean, graduate , and win games against teams other than Akron...
Now, there are fights left and right; players arguing with opposing teams fans on the road and making gestures instead of being on the phone with their QB coach; and there are constant questions being asked if the team was always like this or they are just getting caught now.

Questions on BSD and RUTS
2008-02-14 22:19:15
Saw these questions on BSD & RUTS so I thought I'd give'm a shot.
How well did Penn State address their needs with this recruiting class?
--The recruiting class was poor; it was about as solid as a Pitt education. Seriously, we did what we always do; grab a few linebackers and then whiff on basically everything else. There were hopes to grab Shaw but then well scUM stopped that from happening.
Who was the big fish that got away? The kid you really really wish we had landed?
I'll go with the obvious, it was Shaw. How do you let this kid slide, you have him all but locked up and then you just lose him? Seriously another display of ineptness from the PSU staff. RB is so thin right now, it's just like the QB situation; one injury and it's bad times at PSU.
Royster has yet to show me he can stay healthy for a whole season. We hear great things about Green, but we also heard how great Morelli was....I'm not sold on hype this time around.
You're NCAA President Miles Brand. Tak...

Barry Bonds tested positive for steroids in November 2001, just a month after hitting his record 73rd home run of the season, U.S. prosecutors said on Thursday.

Oh and I guess someone needs Barry to say; 'The allegations in Mr Canseco's book are 100% TRUE'
Adding this to the whole Roger Clemens thing , this is turning out to be one of the best weeks in baseball history for me. I get to watch a cheater fall from grace and another one try to play a game of poker with his career while having nothing more than 7/2 off suit.
The only thing that could make this week of baseball better would be if they could find a way to start taking world series' away from the Yankees and give'm to the Bravos...and have someone go tell Mark Wholers it wasn't his fault he blew the world series....

Jay To Introduce The High Deff Spread Offense
2008-01-17 18:55:54
So, I rarely read SI or their website; but this article came to my attention and it made me laugh out loud. I almost had tears in my eyes from the laughter; you'll love this one guys.
From the article
____________________________________
Jay Paterno said the team's goal is to both run and pass for 200 yards each game out what has been dubbed the "Spread HD."
"It's not a philosophical shift, but more of a personnel shift," he said. "It's a different system than people have seen the last couple years, but the whole idea is to give us the best chance to win."
He understands that he is sometimes a target of fans critical of the play-calling and the quarterback's performance. Perhaps with that in mind, he joked about what the "HD" stood for in the Nittany Lions' spread plans.
"It could stand for 'high-definition' or 'highly diverse,"' Jay Paterno said. "As long as it doesn't stand for 'huge dud."'

Seriously? Really Jay?! Really??
The article goes on to state that they believe Clark will be the starter because it's "his turn" so to speak....Everyone knows how Papa Joe loves to play those that are loyal to him.
