Info on Coples...
2012-01-31 17:10:24
Hey everyone, first time post here. I have read with interest the perception that people have of Quinton Coples. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina and I do not miss a football game, any recruiting info, the Spring Game or pretty much any of the goings on as it relates to North Carolina football. I am also not advocating the Jags take Coples with the seventh pick in the draft. I just want to provide a little more information for y'all to chew on before you make up your mind about this young man. First of all, as you all know, he is a very physically dominant player. He is not, however, Julius Peppers. Peppers was an absolute freak of nature and is one of the elite pass rush defensive ends to ever play the game. Coples is not that kind of freak. However, he is better than Peppers in some repsects. For instance, he is exponentially better than Peppers against the run. He can shed blockers and read quickly and he explodes to the ball c...

Eight Jaguars named to the ESPN All-AFC South Team
2012-01-31 15:30:23
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN has spent the last few days putting together his list of player for the All-AFC South team and with his release of the defense and special teams today, the team is final. The Jaguars have the second most players on the list with eight behind the Texans who finished with ten players. There were six Titans and three Colts that made the team. On the list are RB Maurice Jones-Drew, FB Greg Jones and G Uche Nwaneri on offense, LB Daryl Smith, LB Paul Posluszny and S Dwight Lowery on defense, and ST Kassim Osgood and KR Deji Karim on special teams. While the first five seem like fair and almost obvious selections, the last three are all questionable at best, laughable at worst. While Lowery was a valuable piece in the remodel of the Jaguars defense, Danieal Manning had an arguably greater impact on the Texans defense as they made a similar transformation defensively and would have received the nod from me. Kassim Osgood earned the nod at special teamer des...

Jack Del Rio Showed Up Early To Work
2012-01-31 11:31:16
The Jacksonville Jaguars fired Jack Del Rio from his head coaching position towards the end of the 2011 NFL season. Recently however, Del Rio was able to find some work as the new defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. After Del Rio's hiring, murmurs emerged about Del Rio just "mailing it in" and not putting in the work during the 2011 NFL season. So, what doesDel Rio do on his new job? Show up early, while everyone else is on vacation. Have to make a good impression, you know? "I'm not looking anywhere other than the next week, the next month and how we can dig in and do a great job here, and that's what I'm all about," Del Rio said Monday on a conference call with local reporters. "I'm 100 percent in as a member of this organization. I'm going to be a good worker bee on this staff for John Fox, and all the people here. I'm going to give them 100 percent of what I have, and try to help this organization win." ...Well then. ...

2012 NFL Free Agency: Wide Receivers on the Market
2012-01-30 20:45:11
While it will certainly be interesting to see how the Jaguars approach free agency in addressing some of the needs, namely the wide receiver and defensive end positions, there seems to be little doubt that there will be a wide receiver signed by the Jaguars in free agency. ProFootballWeekly went so far as to say that they expect Gene Smith to rank the free agent wide receivers and go after the top guy and refuse to be outbid. Who that top guy will be is largely dependent upon the actions that teams take with their impending free agents and obviously the way that Smith and his staff rank the players. Here's a look at the potential top free agent wide receivers and their current contract situation with their respective teams: 2012 Free Agent Wide Receivers Rank Player College Height Weight 1 Marques Colston Hofstra 6-4 225 With an impending contract incoming for quarterback Drew Brees and with Carl Nicks among several other players heading for free...

Khan Thinks The Jaguars Should Take On The Foreign Market
2012-01-30 15:10:00
We've all heard new Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan say he'd like the Jaguars to be the flag bearers for international games. Khan recently spoke with Action News in Jacksonville about various things, including the team playing over seas. Khan was candid in sharing his thoughts about the future of the franchise, as well as sharing some insight into what makes him tick. One thing was clear, he has a real passion for Jacksonville and thinks it's important to market the team and the city in hopes of growing both. He believes one way to do that, is to play at least one game a season overseas. Khan says it would give Jacksonville greater exposure and give the city the kind of advertising that "money can't buy." You can read the rest of the story over at Action News' site here and after the jump is the video interview Khan did with the morning news. ...

Could the Best Man For the Job Already Be Here?
2011-11-30 20:54:40
It's clear that with yesterday's media bombshell that things are going to be a hell of a lot different in Jacksonville. Let's take a minute to reflect on what happened: nine year head coach Jack Del Rio is fired, check; Wayne Weaver sells the team, check; general manager Gene Smith receives a three-year contract extension, check. All in a days work you say? Wrong, the changes, while not as groundbreaking as yesterday's news, culminated into a few more today. Jason Hill, our leading wide receiver, as pathetic as that is, was officially waived today. Receiving coach, Johnny Cox was also fired and his job was handed over to Mike Sheppard, the previous QB coach. While there is sure to be more changes in the future, the biggest question mark remains: Who will be the Jaguars' head coach going into the 2012-2013 season? In typical fashion, many members of the fanbase have sounded off that they want a "high profile" coach. Names such as Cowher, Fisher, Dungy, Gruden, pop up sprinkled with a ...

Stay Right Where You Are
2011-11-30 17:33:01
As Jacksonville Jaguars fans, the last thing we want to happen is for our team to move away. But thankfully it doesn't look like the team is moving anywhere except forward. Before Wayne Weaver made the deal with anyone, he ensured he'd find an owner who was as dedicated to the city of Jacksonville as he and his fans are. "I've had calls from California that I've refused to take...[I wanted to] find someone who has the same passion about football in Jacksonville as we do." This passion seems like it has been matched with the new owner. "This is a franchise with tons of potential, playing in a community that is passionate about football and loves to win. I can't think of a better place to be." Being passionate in football is what we need here in Jacksonville and he has it. "Owning a team in the National Football League has long been my personal and professional goal," said Khan in a released statement. "Becoming the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars would be a dream come ...

Jaguars Fire WR Coach, Move Dirk Koetter To QB Coach
2011-11-30 16:45:41
The Jacksonville Jaguars today have fired their wide receivers coach Johnny Cox, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The move isn't much of a surprise, as the Jaguars receiver corps has been woefully disappointing this season and there have been murmors but how bad the coaching was. The receivers route running had been horrible, and Pete Prisco stated on his radio show that Cox had refused to play rookie receiver Cecil Shorts III, which wasn't met kindly with the front office. The Jaguars have also moved Mike Sheppard off of quarterback coaching duties and to wide receiver duties, who he has worked with before. This means that Sheppard will be pulled off the quarterback coach duties, which will fall now on offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. There had been some talk that Gabbert was being poorly coached, according to Pete Prisco. Koetter has experience dealing with quarterbacks in the past, and often coached them in past jobs. Koetter, as far as I know, will continue to be the offensiv...

2011-11-30 15:42:07
@jaguarsinsiderJacksonville Jaguars Roster moves: Jaguars waived WR Jason Hill and placed safety Courtney Greene on injured reserve.Nov 30 via TweetDeckFavoriteRetweetReply @jaguarsinsiderJacksonville Jaguars Running back DuJuan Harris was moved to the active roster from practice squad. Signed third-year CB Morgan Trent to a contract.Nov 30 via TweetDeckFavoriteRetweetReply Well the Jaguars offense has been disappointing in 2011 and now the Jaguars are making moves to rectify that. Jason Hill, the team's top receiver on the depth chart has been waived and replaced on the active roster by DuJuan Harris. Hill looked like an intriguing new target for the Jaguars offense when he was claimed from the 49ers in the middle of the 2010 season, but ultimately failed as a starting receiver for the Jaguars, catching only 25 passes for 367 yards through 11 games. A potential game-winning pass was sent his way at the end of the game against the Cleveland Browns in week 11, but was...

Fred Taylor on Jack Del Rio: "He's not a head coach."
2011-11-30 13:15:22
When news broke yesterday morning that Jack Del Rio had been fired, several Jaguars players went to Twitter, Facebook and the media to voice their support and appreciation for Del Rio. The one to break that trend was the always truthful and open Fred Taylor when he spoke to Eric Adelson of Yahoo! Sports' ThePostGame.com. "With Jack, you never knew what you were getting. You don’t know if you’ll get a hard-ass one day, a buddy-buddy one day. You never really knew." Fred Taylor was drafted in 1998 and played five seasons with Tom Coughlin before Coughlin was fired and replaced with Del Rio in 2003. He then played six seasons with Del Rio before the Jaguars decided to part ways with Taylor shortly after the 2008 season. A move that didn't rub Taylor the right way, apparently. He was asked if Del Rio played favorites while he was in Jacksonville and Taylor said: "[Expletive] yeah. Hell yeah. Why do you think I'm not there? There wasn't any falloff in my produc...
