By Team Release June 27, 2008 09:55 AM EDT CONCORD, N.C. -- Hendrick Motorsports and driver Casey Mears will part ways following the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season. "We've put a ton of emphasis on the No. 5 program," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "It's been a total team effort, and Casey has worked as hard as anyone to help us improve. We've tested more than we ever have, but the results just haven't come. "None of us, Casey included, have been satisfied with the situation this season. Mears will finish the 2008 Sprint Cup campaign in Hendrick's No. 5 Chevrolets. "I know the effort has been there, but we haven't had the finishes to show for it," Mears said. "I've never tested this much or put more energy into racing. But for whatever reason, we just haven't been able to make it click. It's certainly not for lack of dedi...

NHRA statement of the death of Scott Kalitta
2008-06-22 20:56:52
On behalf of everyone at NHRA, we are deeply saddened and want to pass along our sincere condolences to the entire Kalitta family. Scott shared the same passion for drag racing as his legendary father, Connie. He also shared the same desire to win, becoming a two-time series world champion. He left the sport for a period of time, to devote more time to his family, only to be driven to return to the dragstrip to regain his championship form. Scott was a terrific driver and perhaps more importantly a better person and a great father to his two kids. He will be truly missed by the entire NHRA community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Kathy, sons Corey and Colin, his cousin Doug, and his father Connie. ...

At least he's honest
2008-06-20 22:49:04
Junior's opinion on this weekend's road course race:I just don’t run good here,” he said. “Never liked coming here. Don’t like the track, it’s not a fun track to compete on. It’s fun to go around it and goof off and raise a little bit of hell, but I don’t like being in competition on it. It’s just difficult and these cars ain’t built for it, you know what I mean?“It’s impossible to pass. Where do you pass? There’s a couple braking zones, but that’s about it. You just wait on people to screw up.”“We’re struggling a little bit,” he said. “We always do. I’m not very good at road racing, so we just try to do the best we can. ... I’m just trying to get through the weekend.” Below are Junior's Infineon Stats. Personally, I'd be happy with a top 12 or 15. Infineon Stats Races: 8Wins: 0Top 5's: 0Top 10's: 0Best Finish: 11thAvg. Happy Father's Day Indeed
2008-06-15 23:24:32
Photo Credit: REUTERS /Robert LeSieurWhat a great day for all the Dads out there who are Junior fans!I know I should talk about the race, but I just can't. I am thrilled that Junior won the race even if it was under caution."It is what it is, man," Earnhardt said. "We were going to stay out there no matter what."Asked if he could have made it if the green flag had stayed out, Earnhardt said: "We were going to stumble to the finish and probably not win the race. We weren't going to finish. The yellow saved us.""They can write what they want, but we won one.""We started out and he won the [Budweiser Shootout] and the 150 [qualifying race] and we said, 'we don't have to worry about winning a race now.' Then nobody counted it because it wasn't a points race," Hendrick said in Victory Lane. "We...

Aaaaaaaargh
2008-06-15 16:23:38
Hornish spins, caution out. Junior doesn't have much gas and he's terrible at restarts. My nerves are shot. Thank you very much.Update:OH MY GOSH! I almost peed my pants! I know it was because the caution came out but we will never know if he could have held off Kasey Kahne or not. I think he could have because he did have a great re-start (thankfully).I need to calm down and get focused before I try to blog. I'll write more later. ...

Oops, sorry
2008-06-14 23:24:51
I haven't blogged about anything since Wednesday! I really apologize for not posting anything, nada, not even a picture or something.I have been rather busy and to tell you the honest truth, I am physically exhausted. I don't know whether it's the Fibromyalgia, the arthritis, or a combination of both but I have run out of energy. A couple of days ago I slept about 12 hours. I probably could have slept more but I had things to do.I also have some family issues that are extremely important and I may need to pick up and leave for Florida when called upon. I am hoping and praying that will not be the case. Why does life have to be so complicated sometimes?Anyway, I will do my best to post whenever I can. ...

If this is indeed true, it's a shame
2008-06-10 18:40:42
By The Associated PressA former racing official is suing NASCAR for $250 million, alleging racial and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination.Mauricia Grant, who is black, worked as a technical inspector responsible for certifying cars in NASCAR's second-tier Nationwide Series from January 2005 until she was fired last October.Grant alleged she was referred to as "Nappy Headed Mo" and "Queen Sheba," by co-workers, was often told she worked on "colored people time," and was frightened by one official who routinely made references to the Ku Klux Klan.In addition, Grant said she was subjected to sexual advances from male co-workers, two of whom allegedly exposed themselves to her, and graphic and lewd jokes. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for th...

Poconos
2008-06-08 22:20:54
Random thoughts about Poconos and more.1. It wasn't as hot as they thought it would be but it was hot enough, just ask the drivers.2. Kyle Busch didn't win the race and a matter of fact wasn't even close to winning it even if he didn't crash and burn.3. Not a lot of drivers particularly cared for the "patch".4. Not a lot of drivers particularly cared for the COT for several reasons:a. It's a lot hotter in this car than the old one.b. It's tougher to drive.c. Passing isn't that great.d. The front splitter is way too low.5. Today, Kasey Kahne didn't seem to have any problems with any of the reasons in number 4.6. Dale Jr. drove his butt off, just look at his post race interview. Good job Junior!7. Hornish was trying to see how many times he could wreck (or be involved in a wreck) in one race...

Yes, another rant by me
2008-06-06 16:47:18
I am not very savvy with words and my punctuation probably is atrocious, but I am passionate about who and what I blog about so forgive the writing errors. As I was perusing thru a few blogs and such, I came across an article on Yahoo Sports about Dale Jr. The entire may lay started with the story from Richard Huff over at the NY Daily News. I am not only a little perturbed about the article but also some of the comments that were left by readers.I have a few questions as well as some opinions:1. Since when are NASCAR fans obligated to only root for drivers who win? 2. Dale Jr. is not riding on his father's coat tails. Dale Jr. has said over and over again that he wants to be his own person and does NOT want to be compared to his father. That is why (I believe) he did not go drive for RCR a...

It's May 26 and I am now 37 years old. I think I want to cry, but I won't because I have to remember that I am here on this earth for some crazy reason. What the heck?!!!
2008-05-25 21:33:37
What in the world happened tonight? I know it isn't a full moon but it sure seemed like it during tonight's race.Everything and anything that could happen did. And the possibility of me having a great birthday with a Dale Jr. win went right down the tubes.I would like to thank Larry Mac and D.W. for jinxing Junior when he was running in first place. As soon as they finished talking about the driver leading halfway usually doesn't win the race.I would also like to thank the spotter for the 96 car for taking a nap during the race and not doing your job.And finally I would like to thank Tony Stewart for causing everyone to run into one another at the restart because you decided to go at a snail's pace.Just when I thought I knew how the race would end things changed in a hurry. I am so happy I...

Aw Man!
2008-05-25 09:36:58
I had such a busy day yesterday and I didn't get the chance to sit down until around 9 PM. I totally forgot about the Nationwide Series race and I am disappointed that I missed it. I did see the video of the whole Brad/Denny thing (video of post-race interviews below). What are your thoughts on it all?I hope tonight's race is just as exciting but I have this feeling it won't because of the different cars. I really hope Kyle Busch doesn't win and if he does, I refuse to blog about the race. Ugh, that kid gets on my nerves! ...

Darlington claims its victims in Friday practice
2008-05-09 17:12:19
DARLINGTON, S.C. -- The recently repaved Darlington Raceway proved to be just as tough on machinery as its former incarnation. No fewer than four drivers were forced to backup cars after incidents in Friday's two practice sessions, including defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson.Johnson had just turned his quickest laps of the early session when he lost control of his No. 48 Chevrolet and hit the wall (watch video)."I hit the wall in Turn 1," Johnson said. "We worked hard over the night to make some gains and we ran two of the fastest laps and unfortunately I crashed on my third."I'm still trying to understand why we lost it. I lost it early on the straightaway before the corner, so something happened up on the straightaway."Johnson spun the backup car i...

I'm still here
2008-05-08 22:26:59
It's been so nice here in New Jersey, the last thing on my mind was blogging. And I still don't feel like blogging, so I'll just ask you some questions and hopefully I'll get at least one response.1. Now that Darlington has been re-paved, do you think there will be side by side racing this weekend or will it be the same 'ol same 'ol?2. Speeds in the straightaways are approaching 200 mph on the newly re-paved Darlington track, do you think that will produce some major pile ups or are you taking the wait and see approach?3. Do you believe Kyle Busch's driving is similar to how Dale Sr. drove?4. Do you think that Dale Jr. has real good chance of winning at Darlington this weekend? It would be wonderful to hear from all my readers, but if I can't get all of you to respond, a few would be nice. ...

Busch/Junior quotes from LMS Testing
2008-05-06 10:08:46
"It was just hard racing," Earnhardt said. "Kyle has his style of driving. Maybe I went at it as hard as he did; I don't know what I would have done. I took him out at Kansas during the Chase [last year], and that's really why I wouldn't be any more vocal or angry about it -- because I would have been hypocritical about it, in that sense."Dale Jr. goes on by saying, "We've both been on each side of it now between the two of us, and hopefully once him and I have a chance to talk about it, we can come to some kind of understanding to where we don't ever have to deal with it again, where we just go out and race and try to race each other with a little more respect and have a little better outcome." "I don't know what time he got here to get on the track [for testing], but hopefully we'll either see each other in the garage or he'll get back to me later -- maybe even tonight. It's Cinco de Mayo; maybe we'll go party it up a little bit," Busch said.Umm, Kyle? I sooooooo don't think so. ...
