The Phinsider turns four years old!!!
That's right, everyone. On this day back in 2006, a man with nothing but a lap top and a dream launched a small Miami Dolphins blog with the fine people of SB Nation. Four years later, this place has grown beyond anything I could have ever imagined.
Thanks to all of you who have helped grow our humble little Dolphins community. This place would not be what it has become today without all of you who come here every day. It's a great honor knowing that all of you take some time out of your busy lives every day to spend a few minutes talking Dolphins with us.
It's only fitting that the Dolphins would land the Thursday night football game on our 4th birthday. Now they just need to do their part and give us all the birthday gift we want - a win over the Bears!
Happy Birthday to us!!...

| Dolphins Red Zone Report: Week 10 |
| 2010-11-17 16:30:23 |
This post is sponsored by XFINITY from Comcast.
The Dolphins were better in the red zone this week than they have been in recent weeks. Not since week six against the Packers have the Dolphins converted over half of their red zone opportunities into touchdowns. On Sunday against Tennessee, the Dolphins reached pay dirt three times in five trips.
Miami's second red zone trip - one that ended in a field goal - was probably the most scrutinized of the day. From Tennessee's 13 yard line, Chad Henne had Brandon Marshall matched up in single coverage with a smaller cornerback. But Marshall was never thrown a ball, with Henne looking towards Brian Hartline on consecutive passes.
The Dolphins' other failed red zone opportunity came on the opening drive of the third quarter - also known as the drive Brandon Marshall erupted for the first time, flinging the football towards the sideline following a first down reception. The next play resulted in a ten yard holding penalty and essentially st...

Like I told you last week, our usual "Game Balls" author - Mosul_DolFan - will be unable to share his infinite wisdom with us. But I think I did a solid job filling in a week ago - and I'm going to attempt to do so again this week.
Sunday's win against Tennessee presented a number of candidates who are worthy of being mentioned below. But I had to narrow the list to five. So here they are.
1-Yard Game Ball: Yeremiah Bell. It was Bell who led the team in tackles on Sunday. It was also Bell who had the huge sack and forced fumble early in the third quarter to set up the Dolphins with excellent field position. Two plays later, the Dolphins took a ten point lead. Huge play from Bell, who hasn't ma...

I liked what I saw Sunday against the Tennessee Titans!
All of it... except the injuries.
- Fake Punt? Check!
- Al Harris? Check!
- Spread Formation? Check!
- Tyler Thigpen? Check check!
Let me start with the fake punt - I know it was not a smart "football strategy" move, strictly speaking. I get that, and I have read many of the opinions criticizing the decision.
And I agree with that.
You just can't realistically justify that play call, unless it is late in the 4th quarter, with time running down, and you are playing from behind.
And I still liked it! And I liked the play call at the time, and not just after the game was won.
You see, if you have been reading any of my commentaries re...

Needing to use all three quarterbacks and still beating a first place team by 12 points? Yeah, the Dolphins get my vote this week.

Miami Herald: Jake Long to require surgery
The Miami Herald is reporting that Jake Long's injury to his shoulder will require surgery. But Long is going to try to play through the injury and have surgery in the offseason.
According to their source, when Long eventually does undergo shoulder surgery, he will need 3 to 6 weeks to heal and another 3 to 6 weeks to rehab before getting back to full strength.
So Long is likely going to at least try to play with the injury - according to this report. But even if he does play on Thursday night, there's no guarantee he makes it through the season. Jake is essentially a play away from having to shut it down for the rest of the season....

The Palm Beach Post reports this morning that the Dolphins have given tight end Anthony Fasano a contract extension that will keep him in Miami through 2012.Fasano was signed to a one year restricted free agent deal worth $1.176 million this past offseason. But this new deal will pay Fasano base salaries of $1.9 million in 2011 and $3.6 million in 2012 - according to NFLPA records.Fasano is currently on pace for career highs in both receptions and receiving yards. His 14.7 yards per reception is also a career high. These numbers are more impressive considering Fasano has been used as an extra pass protector much more often this year than ever before.
The Dolphins still have a need for a second tight end - and it's a need I believe this front ...

"That's one. You knew what the deal was. We didn't come here today to win one. We came here today to win two. That's what the [bleep] we came here to do. One today, one in a couple of days. That's what we're doing."
Those were the words head coach Tony Sparano said to his players in the locker room just moments after beating the Titans on Sunday. It wasn't pretty by any means. But like Sparano told his team after the game, it doesn't have to be pretty.
"It's just got to be Miami Dolphins football."
That's the message Sparano delivered to his players after the game. And now more than ever, Miami Dolphins football will be defined by one word: toughness.
I said on Sunday after the game that the w...

Dolphins' Jake Long plans to play Thursday against Bears
I like this kid! If there is any way he can get cleared medically, I'd expect to see him suited up.
The REALLY good news is that if Thursday is a possibility, then you can almost guarantee he will be available for the following game, even if he ends up not participating this week....
