Cowan Wins UCLA Starting Spot?
2008-04-13 09:30:00
The quarterback competition at UCLA appears to have come to an end, with Patrick Cowan winning the job according to the Los Angeles Times. Coach Rick Neuheisel and offensive coordinator Norm Chow have not committed to a decision publicly, but sources within the program said they have decided to go with Cowan over Ben Olson and Kevin Craft. Start with the school-record 58 sacks allowed. Then there were 75.3 rushing yards per game, good for 115th nationally. Not all of it is attributable to the line, but it's a fairly damaging collection of evidence. And it provides a daunting perspective this spring: A steep ascent to acceptable production in the fall. "We have a new work ethic, a new attitude," said Dan Wenger, who is moving from guard to center for good this spring. "A little bit of a chip on our shoulders about what happened last year. We don't want to go back.'' Source: Chicago Tribune...
