Jacques Rudolph
Jacques Rudolph has claimed an awards double for a second consecutive year at Yorkshire.
The left-handed batsman, who gave up his South Africa career to play for the English county, was voted 2008 player of the year by Yorkshire's members and supporters in recognition of his performances with the bat, which have seen him average just under 56 this season.
He also picked up the Yorkshire players' player of the year award, thus repeating his double success in 2007.
Rudolph, 27, has committed himself to playing for Yorkshire until 2011 and will qualify for England under residency rules in 2012.
He has not however ruled out a return to the South African fold after 2011.
"I'll make a decision on that if and when I get there," he said earlier this ye...

Showbusiness and cricket have long been passions in India. Now the two are joining forces in a new television show that pairs well-known stars with their sporting counterparts in a dance contest.
"Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena", loosely translated as A Cricketer and A Maiden, follows a similar format to the popular British variety show "Strictly Come Dancing", where celebrities team up with ballroom dancing professionals.
Former England opening batsman Mark Ramprakash and fast bowler Darren Gough have both won that series, showing nifty footwork and a previously hidden talent for the Tango, Foxtrot and Cha Cha Cha.
Attempting to do something similar are fast bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, spinner Harbhajan Singh, swing bowler Irfan Pathan, wicketkeeper Dinesh Kar...

ustralia's late-blooming leg-spinner Bryce McGain faces a massive challenge bowling to India's spin batting masters on next month's tour of the subcontinent, Test paceman Stuart Clark said Friday.
The Australians leave for India on Sunday and have included the uncapped 36-year-old as part of their tour strategy for the four-Test campaign.
Australia have indicated they are keen to attack India's premier batting lineup through their pace attack, led by Clark and Brett Lee.
But India's pitches are renowned for their lack of bounce and assistance to the slow bowlers so internationally-untried McGain will be pitched into the deep end as the Aussies seek to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
"We did discuss it very briefly in our training camp," Clark told radio here Frid...

Sri Lanka will re-admit players aligned with the unauthorised Indian Cricket League into domestic cricket, officials said on Friday, in a move that defies the world cricket establishment.
"Players will be allowed to play for their respective clubs and share their expertise, but cannot represent the country," Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) media manager Shane Fernando told AFP.
The SLC had last year banned its five ICL players -- Marvan Atapattu, Russel Arnold, Upul Chandana, Avishka Gunawardena and Saman Jayantha -- from playing any official cricket matches.
The decision comes two days after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) joined its counterparts from other countries in banning 13 players, including former captain Habibur Bashar, who has signed up with the ICL.
The ICL,...

hivnarine Chanderpaul, the International Cricket Council's world player of the year, scored an unbeaten 130 as Durham kept up their pursuit of the English First Division County Championship title.
Left-hander Chanderpaul, a mainstay of the West Indies batting order and Gareth Breese (63 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 192 as Durham made 325 for four against reigning champions Sussex at the Riverside on Wednesday.
Nottinghamshire too stayed firmly in the hunt for the Championship away to Surrey, whose long expected relegation to the Second Division was confirmed Wednesday by the distribution of bonus points in other fixtures.
Nottinghamshire piled up 420 for five, thanks to hundreds from Mark Wagh (141) and Samit Patel (135), a lead of 153.

Former Bangladesh captain Habibur Bashar was stunned by the 10-year ban imposed on him and 12 others for joining the unauthorised Indian Cricket League, reports said Thursday.
The ICL, bankrolled by India's largest listed media company Zee Telefilms, on Tuesday unveiled a new Dhaka Warriors team for its upcoming season that includes 11 current or former internationals.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Wednesday banned all ICL signees for 10 years, in keeping with the policy of administrators in other countries who regard the ICL as a rebel organisation.
"It is really unexpected," Bashar told the Dhaka-based Daily Star. "The ten-year suspension is too harsh. I can't believe it.
"We may try to meet with the board officials to explain everything."

Bangladesh cricket chiefs said on Wednesday that 13 players who opted to compete in the unauthorised Indian Twenty20 league will be banned for 10 years.
The Indian Cricket League (ICL) unveiled late Tuesday its new Dhaka Warriors team in New Delhi, which comprises 11 Bangladesh internationals reportedly earning 200,000 dollars each over a three-year period.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held an emergency meeting Wednesday and decided to ban the players for joining the unapproved league for 10 years, BCB spokesman Rabeed Imam said.
"We don't have full reports of who have joined the ICL. But today, the board has decided that whoever has joined the unapproved league would be automatically banned for 10 years," he said.
The board was also considering legal action a...

Cricket South Africa president Norman Arendse resigned on Wednesday, citing differences with chief executive Gerald Majola.
Arendse told a press conference here his relationship with Majola had broken down due to "sharply contrasting positions" which threatened to plunge domestic cricket into crisis.
"I never at any stage enjoyed the full trust and confidence of the chief executive and all 11 affiliates, " Arendse said reading from a prepared statement.
The 51-year-old Cape Town-based lawyer claimed six of the CSA affiliates did not back his transformation programme, saying the policy was a "foreign concept" to them.
Majola countered by telling national press agency Sapa he was surprised at the resignation and that "the differences were of m...

Graeme Hick tally of 136 first-class centuries puts him eighth on the all-time list
Graeme Hick's cricket career came to an abrupt end Wednesday as his final season before retirement was cut short by injury.
The Worcestershire faithful will miss the chance to say one last goodbye to their favourite adopted son after the 42-year-old Zimbabwe-born Hick confirmed he would not appear in the Midlands county's final two matches this season after the recurrence of an elbow injury during a one-day match against Middlesex last weekend
The former England batsman, missing from the team team for the four-day County Championship clash, also against Middlesex, which started on Wednesday, said he would not be fit either for Sunday's Pro40 play-off away to Glamorgan.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting (C) practises with teammates
Security concerns in the wake of a series of bomb attacks could still scupper the Australian cricket team's upcoming tour of India, captain Ricky Ponting indicated Wednesday.
The team and officials will constantly monitor the situation with the assistance of the Australian government ahead of their scheduled departure this weekend, Ponting said.
"Anything could happen tomorrow, things change very quickly in the world right at the moment," he told reporters in Canberra.
"Cricket Australia will continue to be in touch and the government will continue to be in touch, and Cricket Australia will keep us players and the players' association in the loop on a daily, if not hourly basis."
