| South Dakota to Hold Vote on Criminalizing Abortion | | 2008-04-28 20:41:16 | | In an attempt to challenge the supreme court, South Dakota voters will be voting on a referendum to ban many abortions. South Dakota voted on a much more strict version of this bill two years ago and it was narrowly defeated. This bill offers a few changes.

| | Yale Student’s Abortion Performing Arts Project a Hoax? Does it Matter? | | 2008-04-19 07:06:32 | | When I first heard the story of the Yale student who was artificially inseminating herself and then aborting the babies for her senior art project I was mortified. As I think any clear thinking, normal individual would be. Now Yale has called the project a hoax. However after reading several articles about this student and [...] | | By: Wake Up America | | |
| | Amnesty, Abortion and Acid: Redux | | 2008-04-03 17:38:26 | | Democrats have very short memories:
After George McGovern won the Massachusetts primary Bob Novak phoned Democratic politicians around the country, who agreed with his assessment that blue-collar workers voting for McGovern did not understand what he really stood for. Later Novak reported in a column that an unnamed democratic senator had talked to him about McGovern. "The people don’t know...

| | Obama And Abortion . . . | | 2008-04-02 10:46:15 | | From Michael Gerson in the WSJ:
Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called "too close to infanticide." Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants...

| | 'Abortion is a racist, genocidal act' | | 2008-03-03 00:47:31 | | That's not me speaking, but I wanted to get your attention. the author of that quote is none other than the late purveyor of bigotry Jerry Falwell's son, Jonathan Falwell, at WorldNetDaily. I was perusing the site in preparation for my upcoming blog discussion with Vox Day, another columnist for WorldNetDaily and owner of the blog Vox Popoli. (It should be an exciting exchange--I'm currently reading his book The Irrational Atheist. Stay tuned.) Apparently, Falwell is still clinging to the "Margaret Sanger was a proponent of eugenics" argument against Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights, but even more disturbing was another article I found at the same nefarious site authored by Bob Unruh, entitled "Planned Parenthood: Wanting fewer blacks 'understandable". read more | | By: The Atheist Response | | |
| | Man Slips Abortion Tablets Into Wife's Food | | 2008-03-01 05:59:00 | | Gil Magira, a London baker, crumbled abortion pills into his wife's sandwich, cereal and yogurt. Though his wife, Anat Abraham, suffered pain and bleeding, the child was unharmed and survived.Magira admitted to "using an instrument to procure a miscarriage," the first time this charge has been used in 30 years. The prosecuting attorney says Magira had "constant and compulsive thoughts" about causing his wife to miscarry.Abraham said she was terrified for her life and her unborn child's life after realizing what her husband had done. "What made it worse was how desperate and determined he was to try to kill the baby that I already felt moving inside me," she said. | | Second Look Project Tells the Truth About Abortion and Roe v. Wade | | 2008-01-24 23:13:00 | | Have you heard of The Second Look Project? This website touts abortion realities and abortion policy education. The group encourages citizens (most of whom are against abortion at an early point) to learn more about the reality of abortion in America in order to better consider Roe v. Wade. Although this blogger doubts state-by-state voting rights on abortion are a right citizens were granted by Founding Fathers, I did learn a [shocking] handful of abortion facts-- the kind that leave a real bad taste in my mouth. Abortions are rarely done for maternal or fetal health problems, or in cases of rape or incest. The U.S. abortion rate is among the highest of all developed countries in the world. Most abortions are done after the fetal heart has begun beating. | | By: Life Consistency | | |
| | Pro-Lifers Celebrate New Report on Abortion! | | 2008-01-17 19:15:22 | | The abortion rate in the U.S. fell to a 30-year low in 2005, according to the Guttmacher Institute, an affiliate of Planned Parenthood. In 1995, 1.2 million preborn babies were killed, compared to a high of 1.6 million in 1990. During the 1980s, one in three pregnant women chose abortion; today, it's one in five. | | Abortion Clinic WILL Be Investigated | | 2007-11-29 20:36:00 | | If a Kansas abortion clinic has nothing to hide an investigation will prove that. Today the Kansas Supreme Court in Topeaka, KS, rejected the attempt by an abortion provider to stop a grand jury investigation of a Wichita clinic. This means that abortion advocate and provider agency Planned Parenthood will be investigated by a grand jury on Dec. 10.George Tiller, an abortionist at Women's Health Care Services, is suspected "of breaking state laws on late-term abortion. Kansas is one of few states that allow citizens to prompt grand juries through a petition," reports the Kansas City Star. Tiller tried to stop an investigation by calling it "harassment" but the investigation will go on. Late-term abortion is now allowed in Kansas past 21 weeks, unless the life of the mother is in seriously compromised.Planned Parenthood must think it is above the law or something. Tiller's useless appeal was a time-waster and probably a distraction and time-buyer. If citizens have real concerns and want the place investigated it should be. Should it have nothing to hide it will be pronounced cleared of the charges. One of the problems with the abortion laws these days is that very few records are kept. Medical records are important and should be kept up-to-date. There is quite a danger in lax abortion record keeping because of the health dangers posed to women. If I get my tires on my car rotated or my teeth cleaned at the dentist, it goes into a registry and it kept on a permanent record. Although private, abortion clinics should be keeping track of abortions, injuries and medical histories. According to a website investigating Tiller, Kansas does not keep records of abortion injuries. This is so dangerous! Abortion clinics are often one of the hardest places to investigate. Getting an investigation going is time-consuming and tedious. It is good to know that Kansas citizens have stepped up to those vices with their concerns and their concerns have taken voice. | | | | | | | | | Study Says: 1 in 5 Pregnancies Worldwide Ends in Abortion | | 2007-10-13 01:07:00 | | Heartbreaking, shocking, daunting! The facts from a study by Gilda Sedgh of the Guttmacher Institute and colleagues from the World Health Organization:One in five pregnancies worldwide and more than half of pregnancies in eastern Europe end in abortion, according to a new study that examined abortion trends from 1995 to 2003.The study, published Friday in a special maternal health edition of The Lancet medical journal, also found that a vast majority of abortions (35 million) were in the developing world and that nearly 97 percent of the estimated 70,000 women who die every year from unsafe abortions were in poor countries.Furthermore, while more countries are allowing women to have abortions legally and the number of worldwide abortions has dipped from about 46 million in 1995 to just under 42 million in 2003, there was no change in the rate of unsafe abortions. They cite as the reason for these countless abortions on the lack of access to contraception in developing countries. The statistics continue to shock:Still, the research found that there were more abortions than live births in eastern Europe with there being 105 abortions for every 100 live births. Western Europe, in comparison, witnessed 23 abortions for every 100 live births....“The widespread preference for small families in this region indicates a high level of need for effective contraception," they added. The study also reported that 33 abortions were performed in North America for every 100 live births. And in Africa, where abortion is illegal in most countries, there were 17 abortions for every 100 live births. For me this devestating news is still fresh and raw-- I have not become so numb to the dissipation of human life and the soul. That is good. But today this news comes as a hefty, balloon-popping, jaw-dropping shocker. That is just far, far too many abortions. All of the people they could be! | | | | | | | | Ad Wars: Thompson On Abortion | | 2007-06-12 05:55:00 | | There have been various reports suggesting that Fred Thompson may have a mixed record on the abortion issue. This video, almost certainly dug up by a rival campaign, shows Thompson discussing abortion in a debate during a Senate run in the 1990s. Thompson doesn't suggest the government fund abortion, as this opposition video of Giuliani shows, but he doesn't come out firmly against abortion either. This video probably won't have any major impact, but it does show the opposition research is beginning.Bill Richardson has a new ad out in Iowa and soon New Hampshire. It plays off of his previous job interview-esque spots. Again he trumpets his accomplishments and suggests he would do the same as president. Finally, Tom Tancredo is in the YouChoose spotlight this week. Naturally, he's going to focus on immigration. | | By: Political Realm | | |
| | Abortion: An Important Issue in 2008 Election | | 2007-06-05 02:29:00 | | Largely forgotten in the most public, scrutinized election ever will be the issue of abortion. Or so the media like to think. According to Students For Life, To hear the mainstream news media tell it, the only issue really in play in the 2008 Presidential election is the war in Iraq. And, lest the voting public forget, the media are quick to report each casualty, mishap, and difficulty in Baghdad as mounting evidence for an immediate and unqualified U.S. troop withdrawal. What you’re not hearing about is an issue that is likely to have a decisive impact on the Presidential race: abortion. That’s right — the issue the media hate to talk about is still important to a vast number of voters. Also this week, CNN has the statistics to prove it! LifeNews.com reports that 50% of Americans consider themselves pro-life and 45% consider themselves to be "otherwise". In regards to the upcoming 2008 election , "51 percent said abortion was important with 27 percent saying it is extremely important and 24 percent saying it's very important."I think the numbers speak for themselves! About half of America stands against abortion and the 2008 election will be a time for these folks to show their strength and prowl. Sadly, many promising candidates are not pro-life. But on the Republican side, John McCain and Mitt Romney are loudly pro-life and promising contenders. They will have a long fight ahead of them though. | | By: Life Consistency | | |
| | There are abortion arguments | | 2007-05-28 18:08:07 | | There are arguments against abortion.
And then there is this.
Intellectuals these days often argue that a woman has a right to choose. Our holy spirit says if she knew what was really going on beneath all surface appearances, a woman would not have a question of choice.
Abortion or Birth? Who Believes There is a Choice?
And the anti-intectuals argue what? “Oh look at the cute baby! Such a cutie. Yes you are.”
Some literary examples?
“Izzum’s ickle heart a-beatin’ so floppity! Um’s own mumsy make ums all right, um’s p’eshus Flopit!” — Booth Tarkington.
“A Peke, the ickle angel pet, wiv his gweat big soulful eyes and his ickle black nosie — oh so ducky-duck!” — George Orwell.
By the way, I really love when people use ‘intellectual’ as a pejorative. The implication is what? That you have no respect for the intellect? For education? For intelligence? For reason? That you have no respect for people | | By: Hell's Handmaiden | | |
| | Giuliani Shifts Abortion Speech Gently to Right | | 2007-05-12 00:59:40 | | Rudy’s International House of Waffles…
As he prepares for a possible run for president — a road that goes deep into the heart of conservative America — Rudolph W. Giuliani takes with him a belief in abortion rights that many think could derail his bid to capture the Republican nomination.
But in recent weeks, as he has courted voters in South Carolina and talked to conservative media outlets, Mr. Giuliani has highlighted a different element of his thinking on the abortion debate. He has talked about how he would appoint “strict constructionist” judges to the Supreme Court — what abortion rights advocates say is code among conservatives for those who seek to overturn or limit Roe v. Wade, the 1973 court ruling declaring a constitutional right to abortion.
The effect has been to distance himself from a position favoring abortion rights that he espoused when he ran for mayor of New York City, where most voters favor abortion rights.

| | Rudy on Abortion; Mitt on Everything | | 2007-05-09 02:47:00 | | The Cafferty File, part of The Situation Room on CNN, poses a question every hour The Situation Room is on. This is today's 5:00 question, and Thoughts on the World's response.------------------------------------------------------------How much of a problem is it for Rudy Giuliani that he contributed to Planned Parenthood and at the same time says he opposes abortion?Eventually the primaries in the Bible Belt may take him down, but if they get him, they’ll get Romney first. Mitt may well be a charismatic leader, but he’s an opportunist. Giuliani’s position only “evolved” on a single issue, while Romney’s position literally flip-flopped. | | By: Thoughts on the World | | |
| | Reaping the Whirlwind of Abortion | | 2007-05-03 04:14:37 | | I don't think as a society we hear enough about how abortion affects even those who don't actually have an abortion. And I'm always happy to hear a Bishop speak plainly on what elections mean to us. So when Bishop Doran of the Rockford diocese posted this, I had to add it at Living Catholicism:
I want to touch on this matter before we get too close to the November madness. As human beings, as citizens of a “first world country,” as Americans, and as Catholics, most importantly, we have to take count of the circumstances in which we live. We know that the only creatures of God that outlast time are those created having intellect and will. All other things, with the passage of time, break up or break down.
Many of the issues that confront us are serious, and we know by now that the political parties in our country are at loggerheads as to how to solve them. We know, for instance, that adherents of one political party would place us squarely on the road to suicide as a people.

| | Rumble: SN plus VIRGIN equals ABORTION? | | 2007-05-02 10:27:00 | | Well, the first thing Brussels Airlines did, was to piss off the aircrew by implementing new work schedules without consulting the crew. So the first days, they did several actions, barely avoiding a strike. Now they threaten to actually go on strike. I think there is one coming in the next days. So hey, it seems things did not get much better! So what did my first hand expert testing of the new airline come up with?Well, I did not want to test the quality of Brussels Airlines.. (imagine a small high pitched voice with corner of the lips curled down and a real real sad face). I merely wanted to book a ticket with my frequent traveler miles!! Boohoo… And I couldn’t Boohhoooo… (hand me a hanky!).Booking using miles was a breeze at the time of SN, but boy, on the new Privilege website (the frequent flyer program of SN, now Brussels), it seemed EITHER they hid the booking feature real well, or it was not possible anymore to book flight online with miles…No problem, I thought, I will | | By: The Road to the Horizon | | |
