| Fainting and acupressure | | 2008-06-12 03:20:00 | | FaintingIf the person is feeling faint, dizzy, or seasick, and is still conscious, help him or her to lie down at once. Raise the legs, loosen tight clothing, and put a cover on the person. Encourage him or her to relax and to breatheslow, deep breaths. Have the person continue to lie down until proper face color returns. Shiatsu on acupoint (GV 26) above the center of the upper lip is helpful. If twig tea with a teaspoon of soy sauce is available, let the person drink this. An effective self-treatment is to open the mouth, then use the thumb to strongly press the roof of the mouth while the person exhales. This immediately affects the brain.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | unconsciousness and acupressure | | 2008-06-06 11:08:00 | | UnconsciousnessA primary aim of first aid for someone who is unconscious is to protect the victim from choking. The individual's own tongue, along with blood, saliva, or vomit, are the things which block the windpipe and stop breathing. You can avoid the risk of suffocation by bending the person's head back and pulling his or her jaw forward. This simple movement prevents the relaxed tongue from blocking air to the windpipe. You can also put the person in the recovery position. It is safe, comfortable, and relaxing. In this posi¬tion the injured person can breathe freely, and fluids such as blood or vomit can escape from the mouth, lessening the risk of choking.ShiatsuWith the victim laying on his or her back, you can pick up the head and rotate it lightly from side to side making an adjustment. Also you can press the center of the sole of the foot (KD1) with the thumb very strongly. Pressing the acupoint (GV 26) above the cen¬ter of the upper lip is helpful. | A progress study of 100 cancer patients treated by acupressure for chemotherapy-induced vomiting after failure with the pharmacological approach. | | 2008-02-27 23:28:00 | | Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, San Gerardo Hospital, Monza, Milan, Italy.AIM: The recent rediscovery of the natural traditional medical sciences has contributed to improve the treatment of the human diseases and, in particular, it has been shown that the pharmacological approach is not the only possible strategy in the treatment of nausea and vomiting, since bioenergetic approaches, such as acupressure and acupuncture, may also counteract the onset of vomiting due to different causes. Previous preliminary clinical studies had already suggested a possible efficacy of acupressure also in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced vomiting resistant to the classical antiemetic drugs. The aim of this study was to confirm these preliminary data. METHODS: The study was performed in 100 consecutive metastatic solid tumour patients, who underwent chemotherapy for their advanced neoplastic disease, and who had no benefit from the standard antiemetic agents, including corticosteroids, antid | | By: Acupressure | | |

| Acupressure could calm patients with dementia, study finds | | 2007-11-14 19:02:00 | | The practice of acupressure might help calm people suffering from dementia, one study suggests.A Taiwanese study found acupressure might alleviate the agitations that people with forms of dementia like Alzheimer's go through. Acupressure is like acupuncture, only using hands instead of needles.People with dementia are more prone to become angry, yell at others or become violent; they also may take illogical actions such as disrobing in public or wander around lost in the streets. The effects of dementia are a concern for relatives and caretakers alike, as the agitations put dementia patients at risk of injury. The behavior also makes it harder for family members or nursing home staff to care for them. For the study, the Taiwanese researchers enlisted the help of 31 dementia patients living in a nursing home. The 31 people were given a 15-minute acupressure massage twice a day, five days a week. This went on for four weeks. To compare the effects of acupressure versus another theory the researchers were working on, the researchers visited the same 31 people and talked with them for 15 minutes each day for the following four weeks.Overall, the team found that acupressure works much better than any other method they tried in calming down the agitations of dementia patients.Furthermore, they found that acupressure helped in lessening the amount of aggressive behavior that dementia patients exhibit over the four weeks it was used. It also worked with more immediate results when used than the other methods. The study's results suggest that simple human touch has amazing therapeutic capabilities. It isn't the first study to connect the two: a recent research review found that other forms of touch therapy can calm dementia patients down as well.Acupressure has been used in Chinese medicine for more than 2000 years as a touch massage therapy. The Taiwanese study appears in the February issue of the Journal of Clinical Nursing.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressu | | By: Acupressure | | |
| | Acupressure for M.E / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia | | 2007-11-08 06:41:00 | | Acupressure for M.E / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and FibromyalgiaTraditional Chinese medicine (TCM) including Acupressure, Chinese Herbal medicine, Moxa and cupping techniques, have been in use for up to 5000 years. For some of that time it was tradition only to pay your doctor while you were healthy - the cash stopped when you got sick - although economically impractical just think how quickly western medicine would have evolved if preventative medicine and results paid, not tradition, reputation or good marketing! The basic theory of T.C.M is that energy or Chi is generated by breathing, and passes around the body through twelve major channels, each related to an organ, starting with the Lung and finishing with the Liver. If the chi becomes stagnant or weak in any of these channels illness will develop and so the aim is to unclog and tonify these internal energies until a balance is restored and consequently health should improve. To a practicioner of TCM, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, M.E and Fibromyalgia are just an extreme example of the bodies' energy getting out of a normal healthy state.T.C.M - Ancient medicine for a modern plague Diagnosis is by examining the pulses - by putting three fingers side by side along the patient's wrist the acupressurist can feel the strength or otherwise of three of the channels. Pressing a little harder gives three more and with the same on each wrist the state of all twelve channels may be checked. An acupressurist will usually want to see your tongue - as an internal organ visible to the outside it can report on your state of health. For example, a puffy white coated tongue with indentations around the side indicates excessive damp in the system, a problem with Stomach and Spleen energy in particular, leading to poor digestion, weak muscles and a tendency to feel the cold - something common in people with M.E / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.Pins and needlesMany westerners are nervous of having needles stuck into them in the name of ther | | By: Acupressure | | |
| | Acupressure for Weightloss | | 2007-11-02 14:13:00 | | The secret of reducing weight lies in your palms, soles and the two fingers — the index finger and the thumb. Does it sound incredible or unbelievable? It need not, because it is absolutely true that deep finger pressure helps one to reduce the excess weight without having to depend on external help. Acupressure is being widely practised in almost all parts of the world by specialised practitioners as welt as common man. When we get hurt on the body or get hit on the head our immediate reaction is to press the affected part. We massage our temples with pain balms when it aches and, press the abdomen to relieve stomach ache. But there are specific areas in our body, palms and soles to give pressure and relieve the pain or whatever other disorder afflicts us. By giving pressure on the specific points of these areas, disturbed functions of the internal organs are restored to normalcy and cure is obtained. The skin of the palm and sole are drier than the-skin in other parts of the body. The large number of sweat glands, concentrated in the palms is highly sensitive to the change in temperature. They contract in cold weather and in nervous condition make the palm cold. They expand in heat and during fever and panic.Power in the palm and soleThe palm and sole are equipped with a rich supply ot selectivenerves and nerve endings. That is why we can feel with our hands what we even cannot see with the eyes. With the lips of our fingers we can feel our pulse which none of the other organs can do.Our body consists of two forces -- positive and negative -which together create the electricity to sustain life. This is a priceless provision of nature installed in our body. The palms and soles serve as the switchboard to the entire network of the nerves in the whole body. This electric power is lowered at limes when one is sick, tired, depressed or when one'suffers from chronic illness.Acupressure has originated from the same roots as Acupuncture. | | Acupressure Point for Strain arms tension | | 2007-10-30 12:41:00 | | Acupressure is a traditional healing practice that involves the application of finger pressure to specific acupuncture points on the body. This point stimulation promotes circulation, eases muscle tension, and stimulates the body's inherent healing ability, making it ideal for people who have arm tension and aches from prolonged keyboarding, writing, or any other repetitive movement.Instructions:With your thumb or middle finger at a 90 degree angle to the skin, apply gradually increasing pressure. Hold for 2-3 minutes. Each point will feel different; it may be achy, sore, or tense. The pressure should not be painful or uncomfortable - don't try to bore a hole into your arm!The points do not have to be used together to be effective, so choose the most tense points if you do not have time for the whole routine. | | Acupressure Point for Stress | | 2007-10-29 11:24:00 | | Acupressure is similar to acupuncture in that it is derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Where it diverges from acupuncture is that it does not use needles but pressure to heal or relieve pain. The pressure can be applied with the tip of the finger or knuckle. The method involves applying a deep massaging type of pressure around various pressure points. This article will outline the theory behind acupressure and how it is used to relieve stress.Chinese philosophy has talked about a life force that runs through the body for thousands of years and it is taken as one of the fundamental principles of traditional Chinese medicine. The life force is called chi. We are born with chi energy that is inherited from our parents. We can also create chi energy by eating and drinking. The energy runs throughout our bodies from points in the body called meridians. The energy flows from one meridian to another to form a pathway of energy that is constantly flowing. This flow of energy gives a per | | By: Acupressure | | |
| | Jet Lag and Acupressure Point | | 2007-10-27 14:53:00 | | Jet lagWith the convenience of air travel, more and more people are taking advantage of flying greater distances. These long flights have a very real effect on the body. During a long flight, such as across the U.S. from one coast to the other, or a flight to Europe, the physiological functions of the body are thrown out of kilter. The body becomes imbalanced. The body has a certain rhythm in which it operates during a twenty four hour period. This is called the "arcadian" rhythm. During this cycle the body experiences slight changes of temperature, minor changes of sodium and potassium in blood levels, and changes in hormone secretions. Because of rapid time zone changes these normal functions are disrupted. How long it takes to return to normal function after a long flight depends on the individual. Some common symptoms of jet lag include: dry mouth, racing pulse, disorientation, insomnia, and often a loss of appetite.Flights from the west to the east are more tax | | By: Acupressure | | |

The liver is the largest gland in the body, situated in the uppermost part of the abdominal cavity on the right side beneath the diaphragm. It is largely protected by the ribs. The liver develops in the embryo as an outgrowth of the intestine and always retains a close link with the digestive system. We can think of the liver as the largest chemical factory in the body in that it carries out most of the intermediate metabolism. That is, it changes the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine and makes them suitable for use by the body tissues. The liver also modifies waste products and toxic substances to make them suitable for excretion in the bile or the urine. | | Prostate and Acupressure | | 2007-10-21 19:19:00 | | Swollen and tight prostateProstate pain Difficulty in passing urineThe prostate gland in the male is about the size of a large walnut. It lies below the bladder, surrounding the urethra, and is made up of glands, tubes, and muscle. The prostate secretes a fluid which mingles with the secretion of the testes. When the prostate becomes enlarged, it obstructs the urethra and causes retention of urine.DietA diet high in fat, protein, sugar, and coffee will enlarge the prostate. This is a very common occurrence in men past the age of 45. Acupressure treatment is aimed at reducing the size of the prostate and increasing overall body strength. It is best to avoid the fatty animal foods such as beef, poultry, cheese, milk, and eggs. Not only animal food, but also sugar, honey, chocolate, and all sugary foods should be discontinued. All stimulants including mustard, pepper, curry, mint, peppermint, spices, alcohol, and coffee should be avoided. All vegetables and fruits that cause a swelling effect should be avoided. These include potato, tomato, eggplant, and tropical fruits. The standard macrobiotic diet should be followed. Dried shiitake mushrooms cooked with carrots or daikon can be eaten frequently. One or two tablespoons of grated fresh raw daikon or carrot also can be used several times per week as a condiment at meals.ShiatsuHave the receiver lie face down. Press the acupoints near the spine on the lower hip region. Repeat this several times. Massage the bottoms of the feet with the thumbs vigorously. Massage up the inside of the legs.MoxibustionHeat applied to acupoints CV 3, CV 6, SP 6, KD 3 will bring rapid relief for difficulty in passing urine. Prostate pain is alleviated after 1-5 weeks of consistently eating the macrobiotic diet. It definitely is worth the effort of making the necessary changes in eating.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

In China, studies have shown that by using moxibus-tion (see moxibustion section) on one acu-point, the fetus can move to the correct delivery position. This occurs in 90% of woman treated. Moxibustion is applied to UB 67 (Zhiyin) on both feet. The heating is controlled so as not to produce burning pain. It is applied once a day for 15 minutes. Most can be corrected within one to four treatments. Some take up to 10 treatments. It is assumed that stimulation of UB 67 increases secretion of the adrenal cortex which enhances uterine activity. At the time of treatment, the movement of the fetus increases. This favor the automatic correction of the fetal position.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Acupressure and inability to conceive | | 2007-10-19 07:54:00 | | Inability to conceiveThere are many reasons why there can be difficulty for a couple to conceive and have children. Low sperm count is one condition affecting males, while blocked fallopian tubes or hormonal inbalances can affect the female making conception impossible. The ability to produce children depends on morethan physiological readiness. It requires a combination of correctly timed physical and hormonal events, a suitable mental attitude by both partners and many other less understood factors that we can just call luck. The habit of throwing rice after the wedding ceremony is based on ancient "fertility rites."Yet even though no physical problems can be found that should stop a couple from having children, there are times when conception does not occur, Shiatsu helps to regulate the indidivuals and may be useful.ShiatsuHave the receiver lie face down. | | Ladies conditions and acupressure | | 2007-10-18 08:56:00 | | Irregular menstruationlack of menstruation (amenorrhea)painful or difficult menstruation (dysmenorrhea)pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS)menopause problemsThe incidence of menstrual difficulty is extraordinarily common. The normal female cycle is disrupted from its average period of 28 days by a number of disturbing symptoms. Some women do not menstruate while others have extended or severe bleeding. Symptoms during or just before the monthly cycle can include pain in the lower abdomen, pain in the lumbar region, headaches, and nausea. The breasts sometimes swell and are painful. Many women are unable to continue with normal day to day functions and must go to bed and rest. The symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome can be even more debilitating than painful menstruation. The symptoms come on one to two weeks before actual menstruation. These can include mental tension, irritability, headache, depression, and edema (swelling). During this time admissions to psychiatric hospitals, suicides, and accidents are all found to occur more frequently for women. Fortunately all of these symptoms are treatable with shiatsu, diet, and increased exercise.ShiatsuIn many cases the symptoms associated with menstrual difficulties are aggravated by lack of sufficient exercise. A complete shiatau treatment stimulates circulation and removes the heavy, bloated feeling often associated with these female problems.Specific shiatsu should be directed to the lower back, abdomen, and the inside of the legs. Have the receiver lie face down. Stand over the person and place your thumbs about 1 1/2 inches on each side of the spine, breathe in and out with the receiver and on an exhalation press down, leaning your body weight into the acupoint and hold for 2-5 seconds. Begin this press technique beneath the ribs at T^ and continue until the lower end of the tail bone. Repeat each point several times. With the palm of the hand massage in a circular movement over the kidney area.Have the receiver turn over. Massage the lower section of the abdomen beneath the navel with the heel of the hand in a circular movement. Use care as this area may be tender and painful to the touch. Give the proper amount of pressure that will increase circulation and yet not create additional pain. Place one hand, palm down, on the navel and the other hand directly on top. You and the receiver should breathe in a deep full breath and on an exhalation press gently down until you find resistence. Hold for 1-5 seconds. Repeat at least 10 times. Finish by massaging the entire area again with the heel of the hand.Massage the bottom of the feet and press with your thumb the lines on the inside of the legs. The channels found here are re-lated to the reproductive organs. Many times you will find tenderness around the ankle and just below the knee on the inside. Any tender spots are worth massaging a little extra. Work up and down each line 2-5 times.MoxibustionMoxa treatment is very effective in relaxing menstrual cramping and discomfort. Warm each acupoint from 2-5 minutes. Use the following acupoints: on the abdomen-—CV 6, CV 12; on the back—US 23, UB 31-34; on the legs—SP 9, SP 6, KD 3.DietFoods that retard the circulation of blood and energy should be restricted when menstrual troubles are present. They include: fatty items such as beef, cheese, milk and other dairy products, avocado, potato chips, and other fried, greasy foods. Sugars, honey, and fruit juice should be avoided and, temporarily, fruits as well. Stay away from raw salads and other cold foods which tax digestion and cool down the inside making internal contractions severe and painful. The diet should include energizing warm foods which will relax excessive muscle contractions. A high fiber diet, taken in the form of whole grains, vegetables, and beans, has the ability to remove excessive estrogen from the body. The phytic acid present in fiber binds excess estrogen, thus removing this substance which is known to increase muscle cramping. This will help to establish the correct ratio of estrogen to progesterone (female hormones made by the ovaries) which is linked to the symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome.Miso soup taken daily supplies adequate protein and vitamins including "itamin Bj^- Wakame seaweed and daikon radish (or turnip) added to the soup add a delicious flavor and medicinal qualities.Ginger CompressCompresses can be placed on the lower abdomen and/or the lower back, whichever you feel is appropriate. The warm, stimulating effect of the compress will help to alleviate pain rapidly.Hip BathPrepare a hip bath in one of two ways. You may use dried radish leaves (daikon preferred) and place 4-5 bunches in one gallon of water and simmer until the water turns brown. Add this liquid to a full bathtub. The second method is to add a handful of seasalt to the bathtub.Once the bath water is prepared, sit with the water level at least up to the waist. Cover the upper part of your body with a towel or blanket. Your body will become very warm and begin to sweat.Thistakes about 10-20 minutes. Repeat this bath up to 10 days.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Urinary System Kidney/Urinary Bladder and Acupressure | | 2007-10-16 23:19:00 | | Urinary SystemKidney/Urinary Bladderinfectioninability to hold urine (incontinence)bedwetting (enuresis)kidney stoneThe urinary system consists of the kidneys, which secrete urine; the ureters, the passages through which urine travels from the kidney to the bladder; the urinary bladder, which acts as a reservoir; and the urethra, the passage tube through which urine flows from the bladder to outside of the body. The kidneys regulate water balance. They also regulate the concentration of salts in the blood, as well as the excretion of waste products and any excess salts. The volume of urine passed each day varies with the volume of fluid drunk, but about one to two quarts is average. Volume of urine passed increases when excess protein is taken, in order to provide the fluid necessary to carry urea (a waste product from protein digestion) away in a solution. That is why doctors instruct those on a diet high in meat, eggs, and cheese to drink "plenty of fluids." Normal urine is a light color, like light beer, and is slightly acid (pH 6). Normally we should pass urine four to five times per day-more often depletes the body of minerals. The most common kidney ailment which is surgically treated is kidney (renal) stones. The formation of stones in the kidney can cause great damage. They can also be formed in the bladder or may pass from the kidney to the bladder. As the bladder contracts to pass urine, the stone is pressed against the bladder wall causing intense pain. Infection can result from this condition, as well as theinability to hold urine. Excruciating pain and blood in the urine are signs of stones. Their removal does not guarantee a cure, according to medical sources. However it will deal with the immediate pain. Preventive diet is the only way to reduce the risks of recurrence.Urinary stones usually form as a result of abnormally high levels of calcium or metabolism problems. The combination of high calcium dairy products and certain vegetables such as spinach, chard, and tomato (high in oxalic acid) acts to form calcium ox-alates, the most common materials found in stones. In the case of kidney stone and infection, prevention via diet is important. It is possible for small stones to dissolve and pass out of the body; however, some large stones can form in irregular shapes within the kidney. These irregular shaped stones will not pass and, if they are painful, must be removed. A prudent macrobiotic diet will lessen the formation of all stones.ShiatsuFor all kidney disorders, including swelling, water retention, inability to hold and pass urine, and bedwetting, shiatsu therapy can stimulate the system to function more efficiently.Have the receiver lie face down. Stand over the person and ask him or her to breath in and out, as you do the same. On each exhalation press the area near the spine from T^-Le with the thumbs. Press and hold the acupoints that make the two parallel lines of the urinary bladder channel. Press these acupoints several times.Use barefoot shiatsu and walk on the soles of the inturned feet with your feet. Press the hips, upper thighs, and calves with the foot. Do the leg stretches. (See leg part of complete shiatsu section.)Have the receiver turn over and lie face up. Massage the toes and press the bottoms of the feet with your thumb. Press around the ankles thoroughly. (See page 91, leg section in shiatsu section.)MoxibustionUse moxibustion on several acupoints. This stimulates the bladder and the kidney. Warm each acupoint for 2-5 minutes.UB 23, UB 57, KD 3, ST 36DietOur daily diet should supply enough calcium as well as other minerals and vitamins. However, some people receive more than enough and, with the addition of certain vegetables or because of some metabolic abnormalities, kidney or bladder stones form. In addition to a standard macrobiotic diet, shiitake mushrooms and radish (especially daikon radish) can be eaten to dissolve stones and clean the blood so as to prevent future formations. Meat and dairy products produce uric acid during digestion; this acid is associated with stone formation. It is best to avoid these foods.Tag:Acupressure and kidney stone, acupressure and urinary infection, acupressure and urinary infection, acupressure and gallbladder, galbladder infection and acupressure, treatment for urinary infection and acupressure, acupressure and bed wetting, acupressure and inability to hold urineAcupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Acupressure and Anemia | | 2007-10-15 18:32:00 | | Small IntestineInability to assimilate nourishment from food anemiaThe functions of the small intestine are digestion and absorption of the liquid contents from the stomach. These contents are alkaline. Just before entering the small intestine two important digestive juices are added. They are bile from the liver (which is alkaline and neutralizes the acid contents from the stomach as well as digests and breaks down fat particles into smaller parts) and pancreatic juice which comes from the pancreas. This juice acts on carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in food. It too is alkaline. The absorption of digested food takes place entirely in the small intestine through the capillary vessels and the lymphatics found on the surface of the small intestine walls. These products are carried by the portal vein to the liver, where more changes take place.ShiatsuA complete shiatsu treatment will enhance the functions of the digestive organs. The stimulus of shiatsu encourages movement and promotes the elimination of intestinal stagnation. Abdominal shiatsu is appropriate. (See pages 103-105, shiatsu section.)Ginger CompressHot compresses placed directly on the abdomen over the umbilicus promote nutrient absorption. Do the compress treatment for 15-20 minutes. Repeat everyday for 2 weeks. Rest one week, then repeat for another 2 weeks.DietThe macrobiotic diet with its high vitamin and mineral content promotes positive bacteria growth inside the intestines. Antibiotics, sugars, and other refined foods destroy the beneficial bacteria necessary for proper absorption. The inclusion of fermented foods such as miso, pickles, and natural whole grain sourdough bread will furnish positive bacteria sources. Small portions of seaweed supply minerals necessary to keep the small intestine alkaline.Properly functioning spleen, small intestine, and bone marrow insure enough red blood cell production. Therefore clean intestines (cleansed daily by the fiber in whole grains) are essential so that the food nutrients can enter the body to keep systems working. The sweet taste of cooked carrots, parsnips, and onions affect the spleen to make quality red blood cells. This is your protection against anemia. To treat anemia include miso soup daily. Cooked green leafy vegetables should be included also. The table seasoning Tekka can be used—1 teaspoon/day.Anemia has been studied using garlic as the treatment. In one study, after eight weeks of treatment with garlic extract or cooked garlic, there was substancial improvement in the hemoglobin content of the red blood cell. Many times the anemia connected with cancer is caused by the toxins of the cancer. In this case charcoal can be taken to remove the toxins. Take one tablespoon of charcoal mixed with 4-6 ounces of water, 3 times each day. Charcoal can be purchased at natural foods stores or you can make your own by charring any vegetable food and pulverizing it. The pits of the salted plum (umeboshi) have traditionally been used for this purpose.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Heart and Acupressure | | 2007-10-13 14:43:00 | | Hearthypertensionhypotensionirregular heartbeatracing heartbeat (tachycardia)slow heart beat (brachycardia)excessive pounding of the heart (palpitation)tightness in the chest (angina)hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis)The symptoms of heart disease arise from failure of the arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle itself, to deliver oxygen to the heart muscle. The result can be angina pectoris, which is a deep, aching, crushing or viselike pain in the chest, radiating perhaps to the arm, or the neck and jaw. It is fairly common in men in their forties and older whose arteries have been seriously narrowed by atherosclerosis (hardening in the arteries). A complete blockage of the artery causes a heart attack (myocardial infarction).Reasons for heart disease have been investigated all around the world. The highest incidence is in Finland, where both blood fat levels and blood pressures are unusually high. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, lack of exercise, and obesity greatly increase the risks of developing heart disease. However, dietary factors such as high fat and cholesterol consumption seem to be of greater importance. For example, the Japanese male smokes and drinks as much and is subjected to as much stress as his American counterpart, but he has much lower blood cholesterol levels, and rarely has coronary heart disease. The Japanese diet is much lower in beef, eggs, oil, and dairy products. It relies more on grains, vegetables and fish.It is widely recognized that heart disease can result from overindulgence and can only be prevented by people themselves. There is a strong relationship between the heart, lungs, and kidneys. As blood pressure increases, breathing is affected and breath-lessness may be present. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema lessen the lung's ability to adequately exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide. Under these conditions, the function of the kidneys is impaired, with retention of salt and water and an increase in blood volume. All in all, symptoms affecting the heart, lungs, and/or kidneys cause additional strain on other organs until, in severe cases, either the heart or the kidneys fail and death follows. Fortunately, however, heart disease is preventable with a combination of diet and exercise. The principles of natural healing are based on balance. When a condition or an organ is either in excess (hyper) or indeficiency (hypo), our treatment aim is to reestablish harmony. The body is capable of making appropriate adjustments and correcting our unbalanced conditions. Therefore for both hypertension and hypotension, our shiatsu treatment is approximately the same. If the heart is beating too fast or too slow our treatment is about the same. Our body's adjustment mechanism, following natural patterns is the source of healing.ShiatsuThe most effective method for any aspect of heart disease is to give a complete shiatsu treatment. In general however, attention to the heart (HT) and heart governor (HG) channels on the arms is effective. The area on the back between the shoulder blades near thespine(T3-T7)can be pressed. An abdominal massage (see pages 103-105, shiatsu section for details) and shiatsu on the lower back in the kidney region is helpful (T12-L4).MoxibustionWarming several acupoints help to regulate the heart rhythm as well as the kidneys. Heat each acupoint for 2-5 minutes. LI 4, U 11, LU 9, CV 12, KD 3, UB 15, UB 23, SP 9. Choose from 3-5 acupoints, alternating with each treatment. Treat every 2-3 days until symptoms subside.Diet Proper eating is the single most important factor in both preventing and curing heart disease and the symptoms associated with it. The standard macrobiotic diet, which is low in fats and sugars, and high in complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals, is the best approach to a healthy heart. (See diet section for details.)ExerciseFor those concerned with overall physical fitness, the ideal exercise is one which involves as many muscles as possible. Walking, jogging, running, swimming and almost any outdoor sport will meet this end.If exercise is to have its most beneficial effect on the heart and lungs, it must work them at near their maximum capability. You can measure your capability by measuring your pulse rate. The basic guide is that the pulse should not be allowed to rise over 200 minus your age in years. Therefore a 35 year old person would have a maximum pulse rate of 165 beats/ minute (200-35=165). Someone who is totally unfit should add another 20-30 on to his/her age for the first few weeks of the training program. Taking the pulse while exercising will inform you if you should increase or decrease your effort. The pulse rate will serve as a guide to the effects of exercise in improving physical fitness. As strength is increasing, your routine of the same exercises should not force the pulse rate up as it did in the past. In other words, the same set of exercises will have a decreased pulse rate over time. In practice, most people find that 40-60 minutes a week is the minimum to maintain reasonably good fitness. This is divided into 3 sessions of 20 minutes. Regular exercise should become an enjoyable part of your lifestyle. The movement itself should be rewarding enough so that on skipped days you will feel like you have missed an indispensable part of the day.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Acupressure Chronic Pain | | 2007-10-10 10:52:00 | | Some of the pain medications had side effects that made it difficult for Jones to perform his job. Occupational therapy intervened with acupressure, modifications for performing daily activities and adaptive devices, such as a long handle reacher that allowed him to put on socks without bending over. Within one month, Jones was able to get through the day with improved performance, better sleep and less pain medication. He also was taught how to do modified exercises, yoga and use lumbar support while driving and sleeping. “It is important to get patients who are inactive because of pain involved in purposeful activities; it also helps reduce the perception of pain,” said Guy McCormack, chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science in the MU School of Health Professions. Modifications, such as teaching better body mechanics, finding ways to simplify daily activities and use of assistive devices are all important ways to help with chronic pain. Relaxation techniques, breathing techniques, imagery and visualization can all help with how patients perceive pain. “It gives patients more control over their pain instead of just having someone hand them a pill,” McCormack said. “It also helps alleviate the concerns some people have about dependency and addiction with medication.” Complementary therapies also can be used to alleviate side effects from medications, such as chemotherapy. Often cancer treatments cause nausea and acupressure can help detoxify the body somewhat, according to McCormack. Patients with terminal illnesses may need to be taught relaxation techniques or be given special emotional support to take their minds off what is happening. “Complementary practices do not compete with conventional medicine whereas alternative medicine might. Acupuncture, chiropractic care, Indian or eastern medicine are considered alternative medicine and are less accepted by the conventional medical community. Doctors are more accepting of other methods if it complements what they are doing,” McCormack saidAcupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | AIDS Treatment by Acupressure | | 2007-10-07 23:53:00 | | AIDSAcquired immune deficiency syndrome is a severe breakdown in the body's protective system. Someone with AIDS doesn't have the normal immune protective factors that fight off common bacteria and viruses. Such common maladies as colds and flu can be very dangerous for someone with deficient immune responses. Without major changes in the immune system function, AIDS is fatal.DietA very careful approach to the macrobiotic diet must be adhered to in order to overcome the severe debility of AIDS. Included in the diet should be 50-60% whole cereal grains, without the use of flour products, such as cakes, cookies, breads, pancakes, etc. Miso soup 1-2 times per day should include seaweed and onions as well as other vegetables. Cooked vegetables should be used from root, squash and leafy green categories—no raw salads. Beans cooked with seaweed especially kombu, should be taken in small volume (5-15 %). Nuts and fruits should be avoided temporarily. Also avoid meat, chicken, eggs, oil, and sugars (see diet section).ShiatsuRegular shiatsu treatments will stimulate the important natural defenses of the body in preventing AIDS. For someone with AIDS, the treatment must be adjusted according to their condition. If they are strong, then a vigorous treatment can be given. If they are weak, then a light shiatsu or palm healing can be given.MoxibusLion and AcupunctureBoth these therapies can be used to enhance the immune system. Moxa can be given at home. | | Acupressure Point for Labor Sanyinjiao SP-6 | | 2007-10-06 00:29:00 | | Sanyinjiao SP-6Point LocationThis acupressure point is located using four of the woman's finger widths above the tip of the medial malleous (the shin bone on the inside of the ankle). This area will often be tender and the point is found when you slide your finger off the edge of the tibia bone, towards the inside of the leg. It is useful to press on the tibia when first locating this point as pressing on this bone produces a very different sensation from the acupressure point.Acupressure TechniqueThe women or support person can apply direct pressure with their index finger or thumb. This acupressure point has an effect in helping the cervix to dilate and can be used to help the cervix to dilate efficiently. Women having their first child or those who have experienced dilation difficulties in a previous birth might like to use this point in early labour. It can be used by applying firm acupressure on one leg at a time for approximately one minute, then using it on the opposite leg 20 - 30 minutes later. Once labour has become established (the contractions have become efficient and regular), acupressure can be discontinued. This acupressure point will often be tender and after using it some women report feeling their cervix stretching and contractions strengthening. | | Acupressure Point for Labor Ciliao BL-32 | | 2007-10-06 00:13:00 | | Ciliao BL-32Point LocationThis acupressure point lies midway between the dimples above the buttocks and the lumbar spine (please note that Ciliao BL-32 is not the dimple). If you cannot see the dimples clearly, It lies approximately one of the women's index finger lengths above the top of the buttock crease, approximately one thumb width either side of the spine. When you place your finger on Ciliao BL-32 you can feel the small depression of the sacral foramen where the point lies. As labour begins you can start here and as the labour progresses move down the spine (approximately one thumb width at a time moving slightly closer to the centre of the spine until as you arrive at the top of the buttock crease, your knuckles will be touching). The timing of this movement downwards will depend on the women, who will usually instinctually tell the support person to apply pressure lower as the baby descends during labour. Acupressure TechniqueThe support person places their knuckles into the acupressure points and applies firm pressure. This pressure can be increased by the women rocking backwards into the support person at the beginning of a contraction. From feedback these appear to be the most frequently used points. Producing a pleasant "anaesthetising" effect on the strength of the contractions, noticeably "wearing off" when the pressure is discontinued and building up again when recommenced. There is a distinct sensation produced when you are pressing into the sacral foramen. This may be felt as a numbness, warmth, tingling, aching or buzzing. If there is sharp pain the support person is pressing on the surrounding bone and need to readjust their pressure slightly. It is important to note that for some women the sacral foramen are not exactly in a straight line. Be guided by the women's feedback. This acupressure point is most frequently used with women leaning or kneeling against a wall, table or bed. It can also be effectively used in water; it just requires a little flexibility on behalf of the support people!Acupressure Labor CiliaoAcupressure Labor ButtockAcupressure Labor HandAcupressure Labor YongquanAcupressure Labor HeguAcupressure Labor KunlunAcupressure Labor SanyinjiaoAcupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Acupressure Point for Labor Jianjing GB-21 | | 2007-10-06 00:10:00 | | Jianjing GB-21Point LocationWhen you draw an imaginary line between the bony prominence of the neck (C7), and the top of the shoulder joint (the acromion process), this point lies midway along this curved line, at the highest point of the shoulder muscle. It will feel tender with a numbing/ buzzing/ warming sensation (this sensation varies with individuals). The sensation is stronger on this point than any other points along this line You can find this point on yourself by bringing your hand diagonally across your chest and palpating with your index finger along this "imaginary line."Acupressure TechniqueIt is important that support people apply firm downwards pressure with their thumb/ knuckle/ elbow. This acupressure point responds to pressure, massaging and rubbing the area can be irritating for women during labour. When using the thumbs the pressure needs to come from the arms rather than the thumb joint - otherwise people will end up with very sore thumbs. It is not unusual for support people to resort to using the ends of two wooden spoons, but it is preferable to start with using hands when possible. These acupressure points are usually used with the support person applying pressure using their knuckles on both shoulders together, but I know of women who have successfully used this on themselves using only one shoulder at a time. The pressure can be applied at the beginning of each contraction or continual gentle pressure applied that is intensified during contractions. This acupressure point has a descending action to aide the first and second stages of labour and can stimulate uterine contractions. | | Acupressure for Labor | | 2007-10-05 23:59:00 | | Acupressure is a holistic system that builds on what the body is already doing right. In this way, the use of acupressure can be remarkably beneficial during labor. Acupressure can be very helpful in descending your baby, dilating your cervix, and making the contractions more frequent and successful. Acupressure shortens the delivery time by helping your body to use its remarkable underlying capabilities better, thus reducing the risk that your baby gets distressed or suffers, in any other way, from a prolonged labor.Additionally, acupressure can be used to induce labor of a full-time pregnancy. Encouraging your labor to start is a very tempting option when you have reached your 42nd pregnancy week. Studies show that acupressure and the Japanese technique of “shiatsu” induce labor quite effectively. Actually, acupressure is one of the natural labor inducing remedies that has scientifically been shown to work effectively. This is why acupressure is a favorite technique among pregnant women to induce labor.Acupressure is easy to master without previous experience. Most importantly, it has no side effects. Thus, acupressure is strongly recommendable than medical induction, or the many other “at-home” remedies, which could be dominated with side effects.Because of the potential for inducing labor, it is important that you know a thing or two about what you are doing. Do not attempt certain acupressure techniques until after your due date, so as not to trigger labor prematurely.Acupressure, however, can be used safely before and throughout labor to relieve many discomforts and painful conditions. It is a great technique for fathers-to-be to learn because it is a proactive way to get involved in the labor, to give special relief for loved ones. Most women need some form of pain alleviation during labor. Many mothers, however, do not want medication during labor for a variety of reasons, and acupressure provides a viable option to pain-relieving drugs. Acupressure can significantly ease the stress and reduce pain of childbirth without causing any side effects of drugs. In many cases, acupressure can at least reduce, if not compensate, the amount of anesthesia used in an epidural procedure in which medication is administered into the spine. In addition to relieving pain, acupressure has been shown to shorten labor and combat exhaustion by increasing your energy.Acupressure would not reduce your contractions or cause them to stop, unlike what epidural and other labor pain medications tend to do. Below, you will discover one of the most effective acupressure points to use for labor pain relief.Three Yin Intersection (SP6): This point is four finger-widths above the ankle next to the bone on the inside of the leg. Look for a tender spot. This point is helpful in lessening labor pains, but it can also stimulate contractions and ripen cervix. So, do not try this point until you are far enough in your pregnancy to safely induce labor.Giving birth is one of the most miraculous things you will ever experience. Acupressure is, by far, the best and safest way to lessen your labor pain and stress without having to resort to chemicals. Are you overdue and tired? You can encourage your labor to start naturally at home and avoid medical induction. Labor acupressure is a simple method that has proven to be effective and safe for the mother and the baby. The most effective acupressure points that naturally induce labor, give labor pain relief and help in any stage you might get stuck in during you labor, are revealed in a new labor acupressure guide "Easier, Shorter and Safer Birth" by Lena Leino. | | Acupressure & Nausea and Vomiting after gynaecological surgery. | | 2007-10-05 23:50:00 | | Acupressure & Nausea and Vomiting after gynaecological surgery. Acupuncture and acupressure have previously been reported to possess an antiemetic effect. Researchers at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, University Hospital inLinkoping, Sweden investigated this action for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV).Sixty women undergoing outpatient minor gynaecological surgery were entered into a double-blind and randomised study. One group received acupressure with bilateral stimulation of P6 (A), a second group received bilateral placebo stimulation (P) and a third group received no acupressure wrist band and served as a reference group (R). PONV was evaluated as number of patients with complete response (no PONV), nausea only or vomiting. In addition, the need for rescue antiemetic medication and nausea after 24 h was registered.Complete response was obtained in 11, 11 and 9 patients in groups, A, P and R, respectively. Nine, 7 and 6 patients had nausea before discharge home, and 1, 1 and 8 patients were nauseated (8 vs 1 patient: P < 0.05) 24 h after operation in A, P and R groups, respectively. When compared to placebo acupressure (2 patients vomited and 5 needed rescue), significantly (P < 0.05) fewer needed rescue antiemetic medication after acupressure at P6 (no vomiting or rescue medication). When compared to the observation group (5 vomited and 4 needed rescue antiemetics), significantly fewer vomited after acupressure (P < 0.05)The study concluded that patients undergoing brief gynaecological surgery, placebo effect of acupressure decreased nausea after 24 h but vomiting and need of rescue antiemetics was reduced only by acupressure with the correct P6 point stimulation.Acupressure, literally the method of applying pressure to certain areas or nerves, is one of the safest, simplest and remarkably effective method for relief from pain and other common ailments.acupunture sites for diseases and difference between acupressure and acupunture, acupressure is very effective and easy method than acupunture

| | Acupressure & Nausea and Vomiting | | 2007-10-05 23:43:00 | | Acupressure & Nausea and VomitingDespite the use of antiemetic drugs, chemotherapy commonly causes severe nausea and vomiting in patients. But scientists have discovered that acupressure may hold the solution to the problem. Researchers at the Northern Ireland Radiotherapy centre, Belvoir Park Hospital, Belfast (1), found that of 105 patients who had failed to respond favourably to drug therapy, acupressure succeeded in preventing nausea and vomiting in 66% of the patients and, in fact, only 6% of the patients failed to benefit from the acupressure treatment. The acupressure was given alongside the antiemetic drugs and although there were no side effects, the benefits only lasted 6-8 hours. This presented no problem for hospitalized patients where the treatment could be repeated when needed, but it was a problem for out-patients. The researchers therefore looked for ways of extending the antiemetic action of the acupressure and eventually found the answer. Simply by placing an elasticated wrist band with a stud placed over the acupuncture point (P6), and pressed regularly for up to 24 hours. The treatment work for all (20/20) of the hospitalized patients and 75% (15/20) of the out-patients. ( The researchers summarised that the treatment was more effective for hospitalized patients, because unlike out-patients, they were regularly encouraged to to press the stud on the acupuncture point. The researcher concluded that a commercially available elasticated with a plastic stud (sea sickness band) would be an effective method of applying pressure to point P6 and alleviating vomiting and nausea induced by chemotherapy in cancer patients. In another study (2), 162 general surgical patients were randomly selected to receive one of three treatments for post operative nausea and vomiting:acupressure using elasticated bands containing a plastic button to apply sustained pressure to at the P6 (Neiguan) acupuncture point above the wrist, control dummy bands without the pressure button bands, Antiemetic injections of Prochlorperazine All patients received papaveretum injections as required for pain, and additional prochlorperazine injections were prescribed if nausea was not controlled in groups 1 and 2. The severity of nausea was assessed using linear analogue scale and was significantly reduced by acupressure in comparison to both the placebo and drug groups. The incidence of post operative vomiting, and the need fo unplanned antiemetic injections was also reduced by acupressure, and the researchers were so impressed by the results that they recommended that acupressure should be investigated in other clinical situations as well.Prolongation of the antiemetic action of P6 acupuncture by acupressure in patients having cancer chemotherapy. | | Acupressure and Travel sickness | | 2007-10-05 23:42:00 | | Acupressure wrist bands & Travel sickness Following reports relating the successful use of acupressure in the alleviation of morning sickness and nausea/vomiting following surgery ( see ALTERNATIVES in health™ vol. 1:1;6 & 2:3;4), researchers at the Maven Laboratories, Inc., Citrus Heights, California, USA investigated the use of acupressure wrist bands for the relief of motion (or travel) sickness.Nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness are serious and sometimes debilitating symptoms for people who travel by sea and air (as well as astronauts). In order to treat these symptoms, a portable acupressure device, known as ‘the Relief Band’, was designed to deliver acustimulation to the Neiguan (P6) acupuncture point on the traveller’s wrist.Nine volunteers used the device on (I) a placebo point or (ii) the P6 active point on the open seas outside the San Francisco Bay. Motion sickness symptoms were then graded from 1 (meaning that the person was ‘feeling fine’) to 5 (meaning that the person was feeling ‘intermittent vomiting, with or without nausea’).Five of the people with motion sickness initially positioned the device at the placebo site and reported minimal symptom improvement (falling from an average of 3.6 to 3.4), whereas the other four subjects initially used the device in the P6 position and reported decreased symptoms (falling from 4.3 to 1.0).The position of the Relief Band was then switched; in the four subjects who switched to the placebo position, symptoms worsened (rising from 1.0 back up to 4.0 ); whereas, in the five subjects where the device was switched to the P6 position, symptoms improved in all of the subject s( falling from an average of 3.4 to 1.0).The report concluded that motion sickness symptoms were clearly suppressed by the portable acustimulation in field studies of seasickness. The Relief Band may therefore offer an effective alternative to drug treatments of the nausea and vomiting related to seasickness.Although this was a small study, it was conducted using an excellent cross-over, double-blind protocol and provides strong evidence to support the use of acupressure wrist bands to alleviate travel sickness.Bertolucci LE; DiDario B. To find the B 47 points, measure four finger-widths away from the spine at waist level. The points are situated on the lower back on the left and right sides of the spine, in line with the navel. From B 47, you can move two finger-widths closer to the spine to find the B 23 points. (For help in locating these points, refer to the illustration on page 565.)Dr. Gach says you can use your thumbs or fingers to work the points, pressing one or both B 47 points for one minute, then one or both B 23 points for one minute. He says to use this remedy three times daily. | | Acupressure for animals | | 2007-09-27 17:54:00 | | Acupressure, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, may be thought of as "Acupuncture without needles". The body is viewed as an interconnected energy system, in which the body energy, known as "Chi" flows along pathways called meridians. Stimulation or sedation of points lying along these meridians moves the energy, balancing the Chi and relieving or preventing blockages and excesses that can cause discomfort, pain, and disease. The Five-Element theory describes the relationship between points on various meridians in terms of their position in the cycles of creation and control/destruction. Meridian charts are used to identify points that show an excess or deficiency; the five- element chart helps to determine which points require sedation or stimulation to correct these imbalances. Acupressure points have similar comprehensive benefits, which stem from balancing the body’s life energy through a system of meridian pathways. This healing energy (known as Chi, Qi, or Ki) functions to nourish all parts and systems of the body. When Reflexology and Acupressure are used together, the energy released joins forces to heal the body, thus increased effectiveness results.
