600 Million Add-ons Downloaded from Mozilla
    2008-03-25 07:01:40
Mozilla hit a huge milestone the other day when the download counter for their add-ons rolled over the 600 million mark. That number only includes downloads from the add-ons sitea, and on top of that there are about 100 million update pings each day. The breakdown for the update requests are pictured to the right in the pie chart, and there are already more than 1 million update requests from users running pre-release versions of Firefox 3.On a daily basis the add-ons site receives between 800,000 and 1 million downloads, and gets a whopping 4.5 million pageviews. All of that comes from people looking to get one of 4,000+ extensions that are currently hosted there.

For each cached block only one SQL query is executed thus reducing server load resulting in better performance and faster delivery of content.Find URL Alias is a utility module that lets you search for particular URL aliases. This module requires the core path module which enables search engine friendly URLs for your site. Find URL Alias is especially useful when there are many aliases stored in your database. But keep in mind that changing URLs is something you should avoid.Google Analytics integrates Google’s powerful web statistics tracking system with your website. The module enables you to selectively track users by role.Meta tags allows you to define site wide meta tags and specific tags for each piece of content (node). If you use the core taxonomy module (you really should do) meta tags can be assigned automatically by using the terms (tags) you use to categorize your content.Pathauto automatically g

    Marshmallow Add-ons to Barbecues
    2008-01-12 06:28:30
Marshmallows are a good add on to barbecues. My younger sister was the marshmallow enthusiast at the recent family barbecue. My Dad had bought them for my elder sister’s birthday barbecue. I think one was supposed to cook marshmallows over an open flame. My elder simply poked her marshmallow into the burning charcoal brisket. No wonder she complained that it did not taste good.Lol.

The era of the Messenger add-ons and served adverts continues.
    2007-09-13 20:32:52
A little history here. We all know about the main add-on named MSNPlus. The one that comes bundled with all kinds of crap. Well, that simply isn’t the only one that comes with crap. There are more. Add-ons certainly need a second look before installing them along side IM programs. Make up your own mind about [...]

3 Great Security Add-ons for Firefox
    2007-07-06 10:52:12
Mozilla Firefox is a great web browser, mainly because it is much more secure than competing browsers. Firefox also allows you to download add-ons from their site which add features and functionality to enhance your web surfing experience. There are 3 particular ones which enhance security in addition to the protections which are already included. Here is a review of Firefox add-ons that blocks advertisements, cookies and JavaScript unless you allow them for a particular site. NoScript - This will automatically block all JavaScript code from running on all web sites. To allow scripts to run on a certain site, right-click the NoScript icon in Firefox and click "allow" or "temporarily allow". If you only do temporary, scripts will be blocked the next time you go back to that site. There is also an option to permanently allow all cookies for all sites until you choose to go back to using explicit rules. CookieSafe - The same idea as NoScript, but applies to cookies instead. Just like JavaScript, cookies can contain either helpful or malicious code. It may be safe to block all sites from loading cookies unless you trust that particular site. You may then set an allow rule permanently, temporarily or just for one session. Adblock Plus - Adblock is a great add-on. Have you ever read an article at one of the big news web sites just to have the article split in half with a huge advertisement in the middle? This one cuts out annoyances such as that and other banners. This is powerful in conjunction with Firefox's natural ability to block pop-ups. Best of all, once you install it the job is done automatically and accurately. You are not required to allow or deny anything. That's all there is to it, make sure you check back in the future for more helpful tips!
