HEADoc Concedes (Adventures of The HEADoc)
    2008-05-19 13:36:21
The HEADoc has made the decision to concede. . .  from his 4 month one on one campaign of taming nature which he referred to as a challenging but enlightening experience that had therapeutic benefits in all 3 spheres of mental, spiritual, and physical health. The most devastating blow to the campaign surprisingly was not the 2 fires or the constant myalgia but turned out to be the escalating effects of the imminently approaching scorching summer sun in conjunction with multiple chigger bites in uncomfortable places and finally a tiny deer tick found attached with the characteristic bulls eye rash that often precedes Lyme’s disease. The HEADoc did learn that all ticks don’t carry the pathogen but even when infection occurs it is usually completely curable if treated with a course of doxycycline or amoxicillin for 3 weeks. Joe Thomas’ Land Clearing of Silk Hope, NC was contacted for relief and brought in the Bull Dozer and Track Hoe. In 2 days time 2 acres were completely cle

    2008-05-14 18:16:26
John Updike reviews Alvaro Mutis' The Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll. The problem of energy, in this enervated postmodern era, keeps arising in Mutis's pursuit of a footloose, offhandedly erudite, inexplicably attractive shady character. A lowly seaman with some high-flying acquaintances on land, Maqroll is a drifter who tends to lose interest in his adventures before the dénouement is

Adventures of Dating Been Getting Asked Out On Dates Lately and a Quote I Like, Words of Thought
    2008-05-12 12:21:58
Love is such important thing. I think it is worse to be with someone you do not love than being alone. I was with someone in a past relationship for years that I did not love I thought it was torture to the heart. I will never do that again to my heart and soul again. I have been getting asked out on dates lately with wondering what to do. All these guys asking me out I feel bad I don’t like any of them at all.I saw a quote I think about at moments like this with dating on my mind. The quote

    2008-05-05 14:11:53
The Idiotic Adventures of Philippe and Pierre is a continuing animated web series produced by Pileated Pictures and directed by Dave Schlafman. The storyline of the series is very simple. Pierre need a head, and Philippe needs a body. Visit the site to see the other videos, and to also download them in  QuickTime or ipod compatible formats. More Adventures of The HEADoc (Spay and Stay Away from Power Lines)
    2008-05-04 01:23:10
My cat has lost her mind . . . and I have no training in feline psychology. She's 3 years old now. What's that in human years, 16? Erroneously I thought I could keep her locked indoors and avoid having her fixed. Not! As a kitten she once ventured outside and got lost for a couple of hours. A neighbor returned her and for the next couple of years she didn't try that again. The first time she went into heat I had no idea what the heck was happening. She also had worms at the time, so I thought her behavioral changes had something to do with that. The injection at the vet cleared up the worms and he told me not to worry about the estrace cycle. Having her spayed could take care of the problem. I procrastinated. No, I just didn't do it. I got pretty accustomed to her running to the door to greet me upon my return home from work. Sometimes she could be quite annoying by clinging to my every action. This Spring she developed a habit of running past me when I open the door. Once outside ther

    Children jokes-Grandmother's adventures
    2008-04-29 00:03:59
A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

More Adventures in the Parallel Universe: Journalism, Secrecy and Getting It Right
    2008-04-22 11:45:00
Journalism and official counterterrorism are in many ways similar. They each have important functions - journalism, to keep us informed, and counterterrorism, to keep us safe. They each have the dual goal of getting the facts right, and protecting their sources and methods. Viewed this way, you would think that there would be mutual respect between the two industries, even if they occasionally clash. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Despite the fact that journalists rely on confidential sources...(read more)

Unlike Andrew, I come at this issue as a proud secular humanist, and someone who has chosen not to bring any religion into my household, lest my wife divorce me. Andrew’s post refers to the recent exchange on Counterterrorism Blog between Fahana Ali and me, over whether the Danish editors should apologize for running the anti-Islam cartoons. I...(read more)

    Adventures of The HEADoc
    2008-03-03 22:54:48
ANOTHER SATURDAY IN THE PARK The HEADoc took his newly purchased used chain saw from the A-1 Pawn Shop in Burlington to Siler City last Saturday searching for some physical action with nature. Those poor trees and brush didn't stand a chance. On the third pull of the starter cord it broke loose and there were no tools to fix it with so The HEADoc had to go back to the bush axe and the bow saw to resume his project to reclaim the land of his birth place from the over growth that rendered the place totally unrecognizable. The HEADoc complained of pains in the back and the legs and the hands after a couple of hours of this rigorous activity. His chest felt tight from the exertion and he breathed heavily but he knew his heart was strong and the fatigue was just a result of the sedentary lifestyle he had become accustomed to over the years of practicing his healing craft. He had become a stranger to the gym and the master of all procrastinators in his come back plan to recondition hi

Joystiq interview: Penny Arcade Adventures - SendMeRSS
    2008-03-03 20:16:22
Joystiq interview: Penny Arcade AdventuresFiled under: PC, Microsoft Xbox 360, Adventure, RPGs, Interviews, GDC It's fair to say that quite a lot is expected from Vancouver-based developer, Hothead Games. The group not only has to deliver a series of downloadable and episodic adventure RPGs in regular intervals, but also appease a fanbase so large and rabid that it can click your website to death -- accidentally, if you're lucky. On top of all that, the poor developers are occasionally dragged into a tiny room for the sole purpose of being poked by a plethora of questions regarding their upcoming games.Penny Arcade Adventures producer, Joel DeYoung, and Hothead creative director, Ron Gilbert, had to endure just such a prodding during GDC, the results of which can be viewed after the break. Appropriately enough, our interview's almost as long as the title of the first episode: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.Gallery: Penny Arcade AdventuresContinue reading Joystiq intervie

    Adventures in Craigslisting
    2008-02-19 12:34:00
I bought a loft bed off of Craigslist last week. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the home, the bed wasn't disassembled so I had to go upstairs with the seller to take it apart. The seller wasn't very friendly and could easily be placed in the uptight category but it was going to take a while to take down the bed so I tried to engage her in some friendly banter to lighten the atmosphere.I asked her if she sold a lot on Craigslist. If she ever got any weirdos, etc.."Well, sometimes I do worry about the security aspect," she said."Me too! I just read this really creepy article about a Craigslist murder! It was just a routine sale and the seller let the person into their house and then they just KILLED them. A total stranger. Can you imagine!"She looked at me in shock. "Why are you telling me this?" she asked horrified."Ha! Now you think I'm going to kill you! I swear I'm not. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything, but it was just such a shocking story!""Let's not talk about

    my testing adventures - effectiveness
    2008-02-15 05:37:00
If you check the date of recent posts , you will see that this is the third post today. My colleague smiles - it is friday, too difficult to work when you know three days of rest are waiting ahead.Today is a reading day, so the next thing I found in one blog - testing metrics. The authour lists a few of them. the most interesting for me - "Number of customer reported Bug - As a measure of testing effectiveness".Ok. The effectiveness of testing.... Let's see - my first project here, small and my independent work as a tester. pilot project :)Total issues registered for the project - 164;Total bugs - 119;Client reported issues - 27;Client bugs - 21;Some of them seem quite 'strange' for me and I simply can not call them "bug", so will leave - 10 bugs with low priority. So, what we have for my testing effectiveness? 10 of 119? Less than 9 percent. What is the 'normal' and accepted rate? Can not find anything on that topic in the web for a moment.

    Young Spears’ Plastic Surgery Adventures:
    2008-02-14 03:53:00
There’s always fodder for gossip coming out from the Spears’ family stables. The troubled singer seems to have bagged a permanent space in all the gossip rags ever she stepped into the limelight as a young performer. The latest story doing the rounds is her alleged breast surgery when she was a mere teenager. Apparently her mother Lynne Spears was in on this shenanigan. The controversy took off with her posing for an explicit 1999 Rolling Stones cover. The same magazine claimed that she had her breast surgery reversed when her natural breast tissue started filling out. Stories like Spears are not uncommon however. There are quite a number of young girls and boys who get their parents take them to a plastic surgeon just to be part of the ‘in’ crowd. It is not advisable to have a plastic surgery performed for cosmetic reasons on a yet growing body. Surgeries like breast augmentations, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, Botox®, etc. are best done after the body has got past

    2008-02-10 17:21:45
Norway is renowned for its scenic panoramas, but much of its terrain is rugged, consisting of mountains, lakes and fjords. As a result, early communities tended to be in coastal areas rather than inland, with trade and war conducted by boat. Around 800 AD, the development of longships made it possible to travel much greater distances. Powered by sail and oars, they were seaworthy enough to cross open waters. In addition, they had broad, flat bottoms, which meant they could navigate fairly shallo

New Zealand packed with outdoor thrill adventures
    2008-02-03 17:02:00
New Zealand bills itself as the adventure capital of the world, and there's a lot to back up that claim. They have every wild outdoor activity that you've heard of and some you haven't. They invent new sports or thrill activities all the time. Bungee jumping started here. There are two competing adventure capitals - one on the North Island, Rotorua, and one on the South Island, Queenstown. Both have most of the same thrill adventures, so you don't have to go to both places. However, the best of each type are not all in one location.

    Adventures at The Mall
    2008-01-04 20:11:00
Note to self: Stay AWAY from malls on Friday nights. Our local mall was swarmed with teenagers tonight.. like locusts they blocked out all of the artificial light with their predominantly black garments and black eyeliner. I don't believe I've ever heard the word "Oh my God!" so many times in succession over the span of one hour. Some of these kids look just plain scary.. and some look scared too.. At one point I told my wife I didn't feel safe.. I didn't.. there have been school shootings and mall shootings lately. One pissed off teenager who's been pushed over the edge.. is all we need for another public bloodbath where innocent people are senselessly killed.. What ever happened to the days when teens wore nothing but Levis jeans (that fit), a Polo shirt (that fits), and Stan Smith sneakers (clean, with the laces tied)?

    EverQuest Online Adventures Tips
    2008-01-02 15:29:00
EverQuest Online Adventures tipsFirst person view Press Select to switch to first person view. Note: This code requires a USB keyboard. While playing the game, press P to switch to first person view. Your controls will be the same as they were in the third person view. Easy experience This trick requires the help of a higher level player. Your friend will need to be at least 10 levels higher that you. The amount of levels higher varies, depending on the enemy. Make sure you are not in a group, or you will not get any experience. Have your friend attack an enemy that is green to him, but red to you. He must only hit it once. Taunt is a good ability for this, because it does no damage, but gets the enemy's attention. While the enemy attacks your friend, you can attack the enemy, and it will not attack back (because your friend is the higher level opponent). The enemies life will slowly go down. It will eventually die and you will get a lot of experience because you killed it. Easy money Play a character in the wizard class that is level 34 with the Evac to Fp, Sslathis Gate, and Melton Portal. With these teleportation spells, you can help people with their quests. Before doing so, you collect their money by offering the right price for the quest. Do not make it too high or it will not work. No damage Go to Freeport or a similar desert city. Find any cactus. Stand with your back directly against the cactus between the huge spines. Pull something to you without moving, and the monster will attack but you will take no damage. As long as you do not move, you cannot take any damage. Lose NPCs in pursuit If you have enough distance from any enemy or guard that is chasing you, you can lose them by running along the invisible boundary wall near the tops of mountain ranges. Run to as high up as you can on a mountain, then turn and run left or right along the invisible wall that prevents you from climbing any higher. NPCs have trouble running along this wall and this

Taking the Plunge : Wet and Wild Family Adventures in Vietnam
    2007-10-09 22:38:00
With the excellent trekking, canyoning and kayaking opportunities that abound in the area, the former colonial French hill station of Dalat in the South Central Highlands of Vietnam is the ideal location for an outdoor family adventure holiday.Originally the playground of the French who built villas in the clear mountain air to escape the heat and humidity of the coast and of Saigon, Dalat’s lush landscape, temperate climate and stunning waterfalls have made the town a popular holiday destination since the turn of the last century. Today, visitors still flock to experience the natural beauty of Dalat, and Exotissimo’s family water adventure tour is a great way for kids and teenagers to make a splash and have a great time.On the first day, explore the many inlets and secrets spots of Ho Tuyen Lam, one of the most beautiful lakes on the Langbian Plateau, aboard sturdy, purpose-built kayaks and enjoy a picnic-style lunch of locally produced delicacies in the shade of the lake’s jungle canopy. The wet and wild adventures continue on day two with an exhilarating introduction to abseiling (rappelling) in one of Dalat’s spectacular canyons. Once you’ve mastered the basics of knot tying, harness wearing, hardware, and proper rappelling technique with our trained guides at the practice slope, you can take the plunge into spectacular waterfalls and streams and enjoy the thrill of the canyon’s natural water slides. No previous experience is necessary for this action-packed trip of hiking, rappelling, swimming, and sliding down the falls; all you and your family need bring is a love of water and a sense of adventure!View Family Adventure in Dalat, Vietnam

Long trip down under offers adventures galore in Australia, New Zealand
    2007-10-05 20:04:00
When we landed, a new day had just begun - G'day - and the wonders of the land down under lay before us: Watching a stingray glide before my eyes as I snorkelled in the Great Barrier Reef. Seeing little blue penguins muster at nightfall at the Southern Ocean's edge for their ritual march to their nests. Black swans. A wallaby springing across an open field. Up above, the Southern Cross. And bungee-jumping in New Zealand. My wife and I had left a Maine winter behind to complete a long-unfinished mission. Working as editors on an ocean liner 28 years earlier, Betty and I had sailed to five continents, missing Australia. We decided now it was time to go. We worked in a stay in New Zealand in a package arranged by our travel agent. We have never been much for escorted tours, but with so many attractions spread over a vast area, and limited time (two weeks), we opted for a tour with Globus. And we met nice people, locals and tour-mates, along the way

    Musings ~ From Carter’s adventures to the U.N. theft…
    2007-05-21 03:50:56
Ex-President Jimmy Carter mouthing off about Blair supporting President Bush’s decisions - Carter, himself, a disloyal, dysfunctional President of the past. If all the Presidents followed Carter’s lead, how old would the hostages be now, and would they have been forgotten? Remember Carter’s administration - 21 percent interest, a miserable GDP, and long lines at the gas stations, if any were available. Now he is showing his true self. He is an anti-Semite - the only President attacked by a rabbit, and the only one who gave away another President’s legacy… the Panama Canal. Teddy Roosevelt carried through the building of this canal with the same dogged determination as Bush is pursuing the Iraq war. The canal cost many lives and changed the geographic obstacles. The press attacked Teddy Roosevelt with the same ferocity as they are attacking Bush. I think Teddy Roosevelt, had he been around at this time, would have followed the same course as Bush,
