| Seeking Release, Favre Could End Up in AFC East | | 2008-07-12 10:15:30 | | Dolphins a leading candidate to land Favre (Photo Source)
You've probably heard by now - because, let's face it, Brett Favre is to NFL media what Britney Spears is to paparazzi - the legendary quarterback has asked to be released by the Green Bay Packers, looking to further his NFL career in a different city. And, as you've also probably heard, of the team "most likely" to land Favre's services, the Miami Dolphins top the list.
(Note to Brett Favre: If you end your timely retirement to come back and play for an organization that is coming off of a 1-15 season, you're a nut job. Just saying.)
Another off-season of Favre's irritating indecision in regards to his playing future has a different ring to it this time around - because this time, it might directly effect the Buffalo Bills. Here's the catch: it might effect the Bills in a good way.

| | Around the AFC East: Miami Dolphins | | 2008-07-10 23:15:07 | | It's Friday, and after a week's hiatus thanks to Independence Day, we're back with another Friday set of Around the AFC East posts. We're getting close to the start of training camp - it's almost football season! - so feel free to let the venom y'all feel for our AFC East foes flow freely (but civilly).
We'll start the day's festivities off by discussing rookie contracts and OT Jake Long with Matty I of The Phinsider:
Let's talk about rookie contracts, and Roger Goodell's claims that top draft picks make too much money. Jake Long is about as sure a bet as you'll get as an offensive line prospect, but was he worth the $30 million guaranteed that he got? How upset would you be if a ruling was passed down limiting rookie salaries, making Long the last highly-paid #1 overall pick?
The Phinsider: Well as far as Jake Long's contract goes, I don't think he's worth $30 million guaranteed. But compared to the deals that JaMarcus Rus | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| Around the AFC East, Week 5: New England Patriots | | 2008-06-20 15:19:32 | |
In our final installment of this Friday's version of Around the AFC East, MaPatsFan - head blogger at Pats Pulpit - joins us to discuss the New England Patriots' receiving corps.
How will the Pats' receiving corps work this year? With Donte' Stallworth out of the picture, is Wes Welker likely to be the team's #2? Who besides Randy Moss and Welker is likely to see the most playing time?
Pats Pulpit: First, let's delve into how the Patriots use their receivers. All have differing skill sets and aren't interchangeable, so there's really no #1, #2, etc... Randy Moss is the seam guy; his particular forte is running down the sideline and pulling down the deep ball. At 6-4 and 210 lbs, he's physically built for this, too. He's tall enough to pull down the ball over the heads of shorter defensive backs and he's got long legs to beat those same DBs. In the middle and on slants, he looks awkward. We're back with the second of three Friday installments of Around the AFC East. With Darrelle Revis on the back burner, it's time to turn our focus to Miami, Florida, where the aquatic-loving football fanatics are placing the hopes of their favorite gridiron bunch in the hands of rookie coach Tony Sparano. Matty I of The Phinsider joins us to discuss...
Please talk about Tony Sparano for us Bills fans. We know he's a Parcells guy with a Parcells pedigree, but that's about all we know. What type of coach is he? What philosophies does/will he preach? Are you comfortable with him as your coach?
The Phinsider: I think the thing that excites Dolphin fans about Tony Sparano is that he's the complete opposite of Cam Cameron last year. There were reports last year that Cam wouldn't put in the hours during the season that other coaches would. He reportedly would scour the internet and read blogs/foru | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Around the AFC East, Week 5: New York Jets | | 2008-06-20 06:00:01 | |
It's Friday, and with the penultimate day of the week, we bring to you another round of Around the AFC East. We're pleased to be joined once again this morning Brian Bassett, head writer of The Jets Blog, to learn a little more about our green-and-white clad enemies prior to the start of the 2008 season. Today's topic: second-year cornerback Darrelle Revis.
In the 2007 draft, the Bills reportedly seriously considered three players with the #12 pick - RB Marshawn Lynch (whom they selected), LB Paul Posluszny (whom they would later draft at #34), and CB Darrelle Revis. What are your thoughts on Revis' rookie year as a Jet? With a year under his belt, can he make strides toward becoming one of the league's better corners?
The Jets Blog: I got the pleasure to interview him briefly on Draft Day this year, which you can watch me gush over him. Revis earned the nickname "Baby Lockdown" last year from teammate Kerry Rhodes | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| Around the AFC East, Week 4: MIA | | 2008-06-13 16:30:02 | |
I've had enough talk of Marshawn Lynch for the time being; here to help change the subject are the three fine AFC East bloggers we chat with each week in our fourth installment of "Around the AFC East". This week's festivities wrap up as we chat with Matty I, head blogger over at The Phinsider.
The Dolphins have completely overhauled their receiving corps since last season; former starters Chris Chambers and Marty Booker are no longer with the team. Can the duo of Ted Ginn and Ernest Wilford do enough to replace those guys, or will your young starting quarterback be looking for more help?
The Phinsider: Well, I think the first thing I should mention is that being more productive than Chris Chambers and Marty Booker really isn't that much of a challenge. In 2006, their last full season as teammates in Miami, they combined for 114 receptions, 1424 yards, and 10 touchdowns. Hardly tough numbers to beat. While I'm not | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

I've had enough talk of Marshawn Lynch for the time being; here to help change the subject are the three fine AFC East bloggers we chat with each week in our fourth installment of "Around the AFC East". These posts will be coming to you rapid-fire throughout the afternoon; we continue this week's festivities with MaPatsFan from Pats Pulpit:
Last off-season, the Bills signed CB Jason Webster in May to start at cornerback. He was subsequently injured in the season opener and placed on IR, adding to a long list of injury woes for him. Now he's been signed as a possible starter in New England. Can the Patriots rely on Webster to fill part of the void left by Asante Samuel?
Pats Pulpit: An email exchange with a reporter from the Boston Globe cited the Patriots' secondary as one of his biggest storylines moving forward. There's so much "newness" right now that it's almost impossible to predict what's going to happen.&nbs | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

I've had enough talk of Marshawn Lynch for the time being; here to help change the subject are the three fine AFC East bloggers we chat with each week in our fourth installment of "Around the AFC East". These posts will be coming to you rapid-fire throughout the afternoon; we start now with Brian Bassett from The Jets Blog.
Describe the disappointment (or lack thereof) that y'all endured as Jets fans in '07 following a playoff berth in '06. Did you expect the team to fall short of the media's pre-season expectations, or were you just as surprised to see the team fall so far, so fast?
The Jets Blog: In Week 4 when the Jets lost to the Bills, going 1-3 at that point, I pretty much knew that the season was basically over. Although fans were disappointed, there was a strong sense that the team wasn't really as good as their 10-6 record from 2006, but that they weren't as bad as the 2007 4-12 record either. In our final weekly installment of Around the AFC East, MaPatsFan joins us to discuss a player whose absence was felt for much of the beginning of the Patriots' season in 2007: DE Richard Seymour.
Injuries and only having to play for two quarters in most games caused Richard Seymour to have an un-Seymour-like 2007 season. At age 28, is Seymour primed to rebound to his old self in '08 and restore prominence to a strong Patriots defensive line?
Pats Pulpit: Seymour is, without a doubt, the best defensive lineman the Pats have. Possibly considered one of the best in the NFL (5 straight pro bowls to prove it), yeah it was a huge loss not to have him 100% in 2007. Because the Pats run a 3-4, they don't typically rush their DEs, preferring to leave that to the OLBs. Seymour's experience and size (6-6, 310 lbs) means he fits perfectly in a 3-4 DL situation, closing up holes and jamming up offensive lineman. Add to that hi | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Around the AFC East: Week Three (NYJ) | | 2008-06-06 12:00:02 | |
We're back with Part Two of today's Around the AFC East feature, in which we interview - and are subsequently interviewed by - our most heated rivals' bloggers. Joining us now is Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog, who is here to discuss the Jets' new big man anchoring their 3-4 defense:
You've spoken about Alan Faneca and Tony Richardson as important off-season additions for the Jets (and I'm not disputing that), but I thought by far their most interesting import was NT Kris Jenkins. Can Jenkins stay healthy enough to play your defense's most important position for the foreseeable future? Do you see him having an impact?
The Jets Blog: The contract that the team put in place with Jenkins has many incentive bonuses and one specifically where he is weighed over 10 times a year to make sure that he's no higher than 360 pounds. Jenkins has responded well to the incentive and has been keeping his weight where the team wants him, | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

In the wake of the very latest information surrounding Marshawn Lynch's legal trouble (see above FanShot), we'll continue on with our weekly Friday feature of Around the AFC East. At the very least, our little exercise might provide y'all with a distraction - but, of course, feel free to continue the discussions on Lynch as well.
We'll start off this week's feature with Matty I from The Phinsider:
With Bill Parcells and his new regime in town, what is the 2008 prognosis for RB Ricky Williams? Does he or does he not make the team? Can he be a contributor under Parcells/Ireland/Sparano's direction?
The Phinsider: Ah, yes. Ricky Williams. First, let me be honest. I love Ricky. I really do. Despite his troubles, he's a genuinely good person who I really wish the best after his football life. And he's quite entertaining. I love his most recent quote, when asked about his NFL legacy. He respo | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Week Two of our newest feature, "Around the AFC East", is in the books. I hope all of you are enjoying our weekly interviews with three outstanding "enemy" bloggers in Matty I (The Phinsider), MaPatsFan (Pats Pulpit) and Brian Bassett (The Jets Blog). The purpose of these interviews is not just to learn a bit more about the Buffalo Bills' biggest rivals; we're hoping to keep the chemicals of football pumping through your veins in these boring off-season days, as well.
Today, we discussed quarterback controversies in New York and Miami and the Patriots' rushing attack - feel free to continue those discussions in their respective posts. Here's what went on at the rest of the excellent blogs involved:

It's Friday, and that means we're back with another tour of the AFC East. Each week, we'll be talking to bloggers covering the Buffalo Bills' fiercest rivals - their divisional opponents. We'll wrap up today's trio of interviews by diving into yet another quarterback controversy; this time, we're talking Dolphins quarterbacks with Matty I of The Phinsider:
Obviously, there appears to be a bit of a quarterback controversy brewing in Miami. Who wins the job - John Beck? Chad Henne? Josh McCown? Who do you want to start?
The Phinsider: Well here's the situation as it stands right now. Despite the national media (ESPN, NFLN, SI.com, etc…) wanting you to think that Chad Henne (because he was drafted by this regime) could start this season, it's not going to happen. So don't even waste time discussing it. He's been working as the team's 3rd quarterback in mini-camp and OTAs, so barring major injury issues, I don't think | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Today we'll break down the interviews into three posts - one for each team - and we'll now discuss the New York Jets with Brian Bassett from The Jets Blog:
I'm not a fan of them (see: Losman vs. Edwards), but maybe it'll help to hear about a different quarterback controversy. Clemens vs. Pennington: who starts, who sits, and how permanent is the opening day starter?
The Jets Blog: As ridiculous as it might sound, the offense looks to be much less reliant on QB this year. What are your feelings on New England's rushing attack behind Laurence Maroney? Specifically, can Maroney fill a bigger role in New England's offense to provide more balance? Should he? Can he be a full-time, 300-carry-a-year feature back?
Pats Pulpit: I'll answer your last question first: no. I don't believe Maroney can be that 300-carry-a-year feature back. But, New England places less emphasis on this than other teams do. Take, for instance, Joseph Addai (Colts) and LT (Chargers). They are certainly franchise backs and do great things for their teams, but | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

It's time for the 3rd and final installment of this week's "Around The AFC East." And to help us out, Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog is helping us out.
Below is his response to my question. Head over to his site to see how I responded to his question.
Matty I: To say the Jets spend some money this off-season would be an understatement. So which of the big acquisitions do you think will make the biggest impact on the team in 2008?
Brian Bassett: For me, it's Alan Faneca at Left Guard and Kris Jenkins at Nose Tackle. The Jets missed Pete Kendall's presence in 2007 between LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson and C Nick Mangold, both now entering their third year. Brick had some memorable games, like the one in which he held court at home against Jason Taylor, but as the season wore on, the line was more and more outmatched. The Left Guard position stranded D'Brickashaw into allowing far too many sacks, and turning the team's running game lopsided to the | | By: The Phinsider

Moving on to the 2nd installment of this week's "Around The AFC East," we now turn our attention to the New England Patriots. And helping us out is the relatively new blogger over at Pats Pulpit (who is doing a hell of a job, by the way), MaPatsFan. His response to my question is below. Head over to his site to see how I responded to his question.
Matty I: I haven't really talked with you about last season's Super Bowl, so let's start with that game. Seemingly everybody thought the Pats would win that game and complete the perfect season. What exactly went wrong in that game? Do you blame the offensive line the most for not keeping Tom Brady protected? Are the coaches also to blame for not really making any adjustments?

Ready for an exciting weekly off-season feature, Buffalo Bills fans? Last year - with much different personnel - the four SB Nation AFC East bloggers swapped questions each week in a little feature we called "Around the AFC East". This year, only two of the bloggers remain the same - Matty I from The Phinsider and myself. We're pleased to be joined by MaPatsFan, who has taken over operations of Pats Pulpit, and Brian Bassett, who doesn't write for SB Nation, but runs the best Jets blog on the 'net over at The Jets Blog.
So it's now time to let your blood get up, Bills fans. We're talking to the enemy here. It's time to listen to, learn from, and then analyze the three teams that are our most bitter of rivals. Here are the questions from week one:
Trade rumors have circled Jason Taylor throughout the off-season while he's been "getting in shape for football season". What's his current status with the team? Will he be traded?&nbs | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Last year, to help pass the time of the NFL's "dead season, " we had a feature every Friday until the start of the season called "Around The AFC East." It was a chance to talk about some of our divisional rivals and hear what their thoughts were about the upcoming season. From what I could tell from some comments and a few e-mails, it was rather popular.
Well it's back for 2008. Every Friday, each of the AFC East SB Nation sites will exchange questions and comments about carious topics. And though we don't have a Jets blog at the moment, we were lucky enough to get Brian Bassett from the premier Jets site on the net, The Jets Blog, to help us out.
So to get us started, let's talk Buffalo Bills. And to do that, we enlist the help of Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings. Below is his response to my question. You can head over to his site to see my response to his Dolphins-related question.

| | Around the AFC East, Pt. IV - The Recap | | 2007-07-21 04:14:16 | | You know what? Sometimes, bashing your opponents is more fun than talking about the Bills. Seriously. We analyze this team and pick it apart often enough that this little Around the AFC East venture is essentially our version of hitting the bars (taking proper precautions when drinking, of course). Smack talk is great for the soul. With that in mind, let's take a look at what has happened around the rest of the fantastic AFC East blogs this fine Friday: Over at The Phinsider: Matty I thinks I'm crazy for calling Dockery's $49 million a bargain Tommasse is bored with the Pats. That's right. Bored as in comfortable. Stupid Pats and their winning. Jerks. Jetfighter disses Dolphin corners, then pimps the Jets'. Are you confused as Matty I? I might be too. The third and final installment of this Friday's tour Around the AFC East lands us in Foxboro, where we're going to discuss kickers. Yes, kickers. Buffalo Rumblings: How comfortable are you with kicker Stephen Gostkowski? How different was it watching a non-#4 kick the ball last year? Do you miss Adam Vinatieri at all? Tommasse, Pats Pulpit: "I'll tell you one thing: I'll be happy when New England gets a kicker with a last name like Smith. Vinatieri? Gostkowski? Sheesh. There's no telling how the "new kid" is going to be in one of those monumental pressure situations until he's in one. He had a very good year last year for a rookie, and he did make some moderate-pressure kicks, including a few in the playoffs. But you can't outright compare Gostkowski to Vinatieri yet. II - Miami Dolphins | | 2007-07-20 16:51:53 | | The Phinsider: SB Nation's Miami Dolphins blog We're back with our second installment of Around the AFC East, this time "discussing" the Miami Dolphins. This is going to be a fun installment - even more fun than last week's Ted Ginn bashing. Brace yourself for a blast from the past... Do you expect a lot out of your tight ends with him coaching them? Feel free to rant all you'd like - I know I'm going to. Matty I, The Phinsider: "Shh...don't say Mike Mularkey too loud. You all know the drill - we ask, they answer, we quietly mock. Let's start this week's session off with the New York Jets. Buffalo Rumblings: Let's talk about the Jets' linebackers. The team added a ton of players to the rotation there, including draft pick David Harris. What will the starting lineup look like this season? How will they work Harris into the rotation if he doesn't start? Jetfighter, NY Landing Strip: The starting lineup of linebackers is going to be quite the mystery. When your team signs 10 different LB'ers you know they are going to be revolving quite a bit. Mangini loves mystery so it will never really be clear cut what the lineup will be. He might even purposely keep changing the starting lineup to confuse the O coordinator as to what weakness to go after because it is revolving so much. | | Breaking Down The AFC East | | 2007-07-13 20:42:20 | | NFL Gridiron Gab has broken down the AFC East and put out their predictions on each team in the division. Here is what they have on the Jets:
New York 2007 Prediction: 9-7 - The Jets rose from the dead last year in a season in which they stunned many by winning 10 games. Over the last five seasons, the Jets have always followed up good seasons with bad ones (9 wins in 02, 6 in 03, 10 wins in 04, 4 in 05), so this means this season they should be in the 5-6 range if history is right. I don’t buy it. While they are still a few players away from beating the Pats, this group got better with the trade for RB Thomas Jones and getting free agent Andre Wadsworth at defensive end. Chad Pennington should be solid again, and with Jones and starting wide outs Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery, the Jets should contend for a wild card.
…9-7 seems reasonable. I also feel the Jets will be around the 9-10 win plateau. I don’t look at Wadsworth as being a overwhelming addition to thi | | By: JetsCentral.com

Taking a look at the other teams in the AFC East…the Bills (.539) have the hardest schedule in the season while the Patriots (.535) rank 3rd on the list. Miami isn’t far behind the Jets landing in the 9th spot.

Last year, after Coles and Cotchery, the Jets next highest reception totals were just 31 by Chris Baker and 23 by Justin McCareins. Are Baker and/or McCareins ever going to develop into that true 3rd option for Pennington or is the passing game going to continue to be basically a 2-man show? NY Landing Strip: With Chad and the passing game that Mangini runs, I really have no concerns about the 3rd wideout. The stats are true on Baker and McCareins, but I feel that Tim Dwight, Brad Smith, and rookie Chansi Stuckey will also contribute as well. If you factor in McCareins, Dwight, and Smith as a 3rd, they had 48 grabs for 570 yards and 1 TD which isn't that bad for a 3. Is there a true #1 corner? Is 2006 3rd round pick Ashton Youboty going to make an impact? Buffalo Rumblings: At this point, there is not a true #1 corner. Terrence McGee fills that role, but he has always been an ideal fit for a nickel role in my eyes. He is certainly capable of starting in this type of defense thanks to his tackling ability, but he's probably not a true #1 corner. He will start at the left cornerback spot. At right corner, there is a three-way battle between veterans Kiwaukee Thomas and Jason Webster and the young Youboty. My expectation is that either Thomas or Webster will win that job, with the loser playing on nickel downs. Youboty is too green at this point to be a true contender for the job, although I do expect him to have taken at least the nickel job by the end of the season. For no | | By: The Phinsider
| | Around the AFC East, Pt. III - New York Jets | | 2007-07-06 13:47:20 | | NY Landing Strip: SB Nation's New York Jets blog Welcome back to yet another installment of "Around the AFC East". Each week, the four AFC East bloggers from SB Nation get together and interrogate each other about their respective teams (I use the word "interrogate" on purpose - generally, interrogations aren't friendly, and neither are the rivalries between these teams). Rounding up this week's activity: Jetfighter from NY Landing Strip. BR: What does the Jets' situation at cornerback look like after the addition of Darrelle Revis? Will he start right away, or will he have to duke it out with Justin Miller for a spot? Has the position been upgraded or downgraded in your eyes? NY Landing Strip: After the addition of Darrelle Revis, the Jets have Andre Dyson (opposite side corner), Justin Miller, David Barrett, 2nd year man Drew Coleman, and journeyman Hank Poteat. Unless Revis has a stellar training camp, he will not be starting right away, and coming | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

Next up: Tommasse from Pats Pulpit. BR: What's your take on the off-season madness surrounding Tom Brady? From Yankees caps to multiple babies, it's been a circus for that guy. Do you think it will be a distraction for the team at all? Pats Pulpit: "I believe it's a massive Indianapolis Conspiracy! Anything to get the upper hand! But back to reality. I don't think it's a distraction to the people who count, they being the players and the coaches. The media can play their little games and have their fun, but I don't see it impacting how this team prepares or what happens on game | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Each week, the four AFC East bloggers from SB Nation get together and interrogate each other about their respective teams (I use the word "interrogate" on purpose - generally, interrogations aren't friendly, and neither are the rivalries between these teams). First up in this week's installment: Matty I, author of The Phinsider. BR: How comfortable are you with the change at head coach from Nick Saban to Cam Cameron? What are your thoughts on all of the staff changes, and how will the Dolphins' offensive/defensive schemes change in 2007? The Phinsider: "I'm actually very comfortable with the change at head coach. Cam Cameron was actually the guy I wanted all along to be the next head coach from the moment Saban bolted for Alabama. | | Around the AFC East: New England Patriots | | 2007-07-06 07:29:13 | | It's Friday, which again means it's time to go "Around the AFC East" to discuss topics involving our hated division rivals. First up is tommasse from Pats Pulpit: Phinsider: With the current hold-out risk of Asante Samuel and with Rodney Harrison and Eugene Wilson both coming off of injury-plagued seasons, are you worried at all about this team's secondary? What kind of depth do the Pats have and are there any "sleepers" that outsiders should keep an eye on? Pats Pulpit: If Samuel sits out, yes, I'm worried. Even if he's on the field for Week 1, I'm still a little concerned. The secondary hasn't been the most stellar unit on the team the last couple years. Harrison has suffered a couple very nasty injuries. Nasty as they've been, that tough SOB keeps coming back. That's the good news. The bad news is we're all waiting for that next cheap block at the knees -- and not just on Harrison. The Patriots secondary has been decimated by injuries for what seems like | | By: The Phinsider
| | Breaking Down The Coaches Of The AFC East | | 2007-07-05 16:46:53 | | Jordan of BlogCritics.org writes his thoughts and dissects the pros and cons for each head coach in the AFC East.
Eric Mangini, The New York Jets
Mangini, at 36 years old, is just getting started, but got off on the right foot last season when his team finished 10-6. His sophomore year will be one in which fans will get a better idea of the person known as “Mangenius.”
Pros: Mangini is one of the hardest working people in the NFL. After starting out in the pros as a 23-year-old ball boy, he climbed the ranks and landed a job as a head coach. He was mentored by Bill Belichick and learned how to coach defense from him. Mangini was part of the Patriots’ coaching staff when their defense was unstoppable and full of Pro Bowl talent. As a head coach, Mangini is not afraid to be bold and surprising on the field and, off the field, he possesses a talent for drafting gifted players.
Cons: Even with Mangini’s potential, the Jets might not be playoff material quite yet. Th | | By: JetsCentral.com
| | Around the AFC East: Recap | | 2007-06-30 07:09:46 | | As I'm sure you all know, yesterday featured the latest installment of "Around the AFC East." You can scroll down to see what we talked about on this site. But here's a recap of what was going on around the other AFC East sites: Over at Buffalo Rumblings: -I talk about Miami's tight end situation and David Martin. -Tommassee tells us if he thinks Tedy Bruschi is losing a step. -Jetfighter talks a little bit about the Jets' defensive philosophy. Over at NY Landing Strip: -Tommassee tells us why he isn't sold on Laurence Maroney. -Brian G explains to us all why J.P. Losman is going to "be a star." -I talk a little bit about Will Allen and Miami's corners. And last but certainly not least, here's what was going on over at Pats Pulpit: -Jetfighter gives his opinion on whether or not the Jets did enough this offseason. -Brian G breaks down Marv Levy, the GM. -I give my opinion on what it will take for the Dolphins to get off to a good start, as opp | | By: The Phinsider | | |
| | Around the AFC East - The Recap | | 2007-06-30 01:59:58 | | This has definitely been the most fun and entertaining installment of "Around the AFC East" to date. After two weeks of general respect and civility, the gloves are off and the four AFC East bloggers (including yours truly) are going at it like true division rivals should. Let me just say that I have a ton of respect for Matty I at The Phinsider, Tommasse at Pats Pulpit and Jetfighter at NY Landing Strip. All three are very good writers, run great team blogs and are integral parts to the SB Nation football family. It's just that their views on the Bills are so horribly misguided sometimes... and it's my job to set them straight. I have a great time doing so. Here's a recap of all of today's action: Over at The Phinsider: Matty I and I exchange blows on the topic of J.P. Losman (be sure to read the comments!) Tommasse discusses New England's "underrated" D-Line Jetfighter thinks that Vilma will bounce back despite his poor 3-4 defensive skills Over at Pats Pulpit: | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Around the AFC East: Part III | | 2007-06-29 22:01:52 | | It's now time for the final part of this week's "Around the AFC East." Let's now focus on the New England Patriots. Here's Pats Pulpit's own tommassee: Phinsider: Last season, Ty Warren really came into his own, piling up 84 total tackles and 7.5 sacks. With him, Richard Seymour, and Vince Wilfork, how good can this defensive line be and do they get overshadowed because of the outstanding play from the LB group? Pats Pulpit: I guess my question to you would be: Overshadowed according to whom? This might be one of the great lines in the history of the 3-4 defense. (Obviously, hard to compare to a great 5-3 or other alignment, since they would have one or two additional linemen.) Warren came into his own as opposing offenses dedicated more resources to holding off Richard Seymour's side of the line, where he's paired so well with nose tackle Vince Wilfork. As Warren's reputation grows, teams will have to decide whether to let Warren run wild, or let up on Seymou | | By: The Phinsider | | |
| | Around the AFC East: Part I | | 2007-06-29 07:01:39 | | This week, I'm going to handle the "Around the AFC East" segment a little differently, breaking it down to 3 parts so that it isn't as overwhelming. So this is part I of the segment this week. First up, it's the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Rumblings' own Brian G: Phinsider: Buffalo was ranked 30th overall in total offense last season. What's going to be the one key to improving Buffalo's offense? Is it the continued development of J.P. Losman or the impact Marshawn Lynch is going to have on both the running and passing game? Or is it going to be something else all together? Buffalo Rumblings: Choice D- All of the above. Our offense made a lot of big plays last year and we scored a lot of points in the second half of the season, but we were never able to consistently drive the ball down the field on a consistent basis. A lot of the potential success we'll have this year will be based on how quickly the offense as a whole can gel. We've got a brand-new offensive | | By: The Phinsider | | |
| | Recap: Around the AFC East, Week 2 | | 2007-06-23 00:22:25 | | The latest three installments of "Around the AFC East" are in the books, and for the second straight week we've had some interesting looks into the most bitter of Buffalo's rivals. With all of my questions out of the way, let's take a look at some of the other discussions taking place around SB Nation's AFC East blogs: Over at The Phinsider: Phinatic grills me about the situation opposite Lee Evans Tommasse picks Adalius Thomas as the highest-impact free agent for the Pats Jetfighter expresses his worry over the Jets' trenches Over at Pats Pulpit: Tommasse is skeptical over my feelings on Dick Jauron Phinatic discusses the roller-coaster ride that was Dolphins draft day Jetfighter defends Chad Pennington's honor Over at NY Landing Strip: Jetfighter poses the question: Marshawn or Poz? Phinatic is excited about the Dolphins' running backs Tommasse would rather not see a Pats backup QB, ever. Be sure to head on over to the rest of SB Nation's fanta | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Around the AFC East | | 2007-06-15 20:09:21 | | This Friday marks the beginning of a new Friday tradition. It begins something called "Around the AFC East," in which the 4 SB Nation AFC East bloggers exchange questions with each other so that we can get to know our opponents a little bit better. Onto the questions I asked: Phinsider: How can a Jets' fan be optimistic about the upcoming season when the Jets were just 1-4 (including playoffs) against teams with records over .500 and 7 of their 10 wins in 2006 were against teams with sub-.500 records? NY Landing Strip: When aren't Jets fan optimistic? They have been optimistic since 1969, the year they walked away with a championship and have suffered ever since. I'm not going to lie this season is going to be very tough. Whenever you have low expectations and exceed them (i.e. Saints, Jets) the schedule makers really stick it to you the following year. When you consider the big juggernauts the Jets have to go through (AFC East 2x, Baltimore | | By: The Phinsider | | |

Overall Grade: B+
Fantasy Outlook: The Bills had a very respectable draft, selecting Marshawn Lynch in the first round to replace the departed Willis McGahee. Lynch has the perfect blend of size and speed, and he should have the opportunity to start right away. Therefore, he warrants strong consideration in fantasy. Buffalo also landed two potential starters on defense in Paul Posluszny and John Wendling. Both Posluszny and Wendling are hard workers and are almost always in the right position to make plays. The Bills should be an improved defense that will be worth a look in fantasy. Trent Edwards will compete for the starting quarterback job, but even if he does | | By: DR U Fantasy Football GURU
