On this show, the host and his callers regularly tell each other, "you're a great American". Great Americans are people who make a difference; without their existence our country would be in much worse shape. Great Americans inspire courage and change. They have vision and imagination that go beyond even a good American. Most times these people are not recognized as great Americans until later in life or after they are gone.
