    Android gira su N95??
    2008-06-19 05:35:01

If there are two names that are creating a buzz in the mobile world today, they have to be "google android" and "iphone sdk". Both are aiming at providing young developers with free tools to design their own mobile applications, and also make some money off it! Both are backed by big tech giants, and both are ready to go to extreme lengths to woo the people, especially young talented developers. Its pretty interesting to see how people react to this unending competition; for some, it may... Please Click the Title for the Full Story

I was wet. I want Android!
    2008-03-25 13:34:00
Yesterday morning, i went to my accounting class as usual. But that day was a rainy day, quite heavy too! So, i decided to wait until the rain turns small. After 10 minutes, rain are small yet force me to start up my motorcycle and get off to my commerce school. Once i on the road, heavy rain flooded.... heavy rain ...I drove in reduced speed, more or less, around 50km per hour. The rain continue to drop on the land and the surrounding are cloudy and dark.Once I reached my commerce school, the sky immediately uncover, the Sun shines, the rain turn from mist and stop. Well i feel cheated and i hope if i can just start my ride to my school.... i am very wet when i reach my school. Luckily none of my friend comment on me.(maybe they just laugh in their heart).Just as a tit bitToday, i get to know that Google's Android phone will available this end of June ( or summer). I read this here, thanks to Tom Krazit. I was happy. I could not wait for long time to get this! The Android prototype.

    zzzPhone To Run Android?

I have to admit up front that I had never heard of the zzzPhone prior to this morning, but they are preparing to release a handset that my be running Google's Android in the near future. You can read the complete article here on gearlog.com. The author is expecting his phone to arrive soon, but it will be running a proprietary OS, not Android. Be sure to check out the email the company sent to it's customers pending the handsets release. It's good for a chuckle. Here's a direct quote from the email. Please understand that most of the initial orders were placed during the Chinese New Year Holiday, which also happened to coincide with one of the worst nation-wide snowstorms in history. (people dying, power outages, ect.)Yeah, I'm thinking that guy should be fired, or seriously reprimanded for making light of such a tragedy. Sheesh. Intel 'Atom' Likely to Power Android Phones
    2008-03-03 07:27:57
Going by the codename 'Menlow' for quite some time, Intel has pulled the curtain back on what will now be known as the Centrino Atom. These processors will use the Core 2 Duo instruction set and get clock speeds up to 1.8GHz! The processors, using an architecture designed for efficiency, are geared for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and possibly high-end cellular devices. How do we know that they'll be used for Android phones? Well, we don't for sure. We're just being hypothetical today. Intel is one of the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance. Besides that, we're not aware of any other mobile chip sets being worked on by them. "This small wonder is a fundamental new shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience on these new devices. We believe it will unleash new innovation across the industry." -Intel chief sales and marketing officer Sean Maloney.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Google Android news and opinion.

New Video of Android Shows Up
    2008-02-28 08:46:40
Things are moving along swimmingly in the land of Android (Landroid?) and there's new stuff to prove it. BBC's Darren Waters was able to get a first hand experience with the man himself, Andy Rubin himself. He was able to get some video for everyone to see. This incarnation of Android was running on some unknown 3G prototype with a touchscreen. Check out the bottom, there's a track ball down there! Web browsing looks very nice and has an intuitive feel which should be easy to learn for most folks. Andy also teases us with a mobile version of their 'Street View' mapping. You know the one, panning back and forth from eye level. Considering this hardware was only 300MHz, we're stoked at just how smoothly it ought to run when it hits the newest hardware. Opera May Play Role In New Android Phones
    2008-02-20 12:12:13
VIDEO LINK FIXED: THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK!Opera's "Mini" browser has been the browser of choice for mobile users for quite some time, so it makes sense that they would play a prominent role in the mobile phones of the future.Known for it's speed even on slower networks such as EDGE and GPRS, Opera would be a perfect fit for both lower end and premium handsets, and with Google's "write once, run on many" mindset with Android Opera's low profile would ensure the phones resources aren't being wasted while surfing the web. Samsung Dropping Two Android-Based Phones in '08?
    2008-02-18 08:34:57
Here's a departure from what we've already heard. Samsung is rumored to be releasing to handsets this fall and winter. A high end model due in September and a lower end model due in time for Christmas. So far, we've only been told 2009 for Samsung. On top of that, HTC is the company rumored to be bringing the first device to market. Which carrier will get the phones? According to this article, both Verizon and T-Mobile are mulling it over. The first non-exclusive phones from Google might be around the corner however we're not holding our breath over this as apparently the source has an shaky past when it comes to breaking news. One thing that tips us off that it might be inaccurate: Referring to them as gPhones and not Android-based. Google is not in the business of branding a phone (yet). There are two gPhones slated for release with the first coming in September and the second probably not appearing until after Christmas. Given that the first is the high-end model and the s

Google's Android-based Prototypes Unveiled at Mobile Expo
    2008-02-15 16:39:01
A lot of hype and hooplah was created when Google announced that it would venture into the wireless world. People had conjured up images of the illusionary G-phone and were waiting with abated breath for its arrival. Sadly, that never happened. But investors and techies did find relief in the fact that Google would still develop a new mobile operating system called "Android", which would still change the face of a lot of applications, and the wait and excitement revved up again. Finally Google delivers on its plans as the first prototype of phones running Android make a public appearance!Confirming earlier expectations, Texas Instruments and a handful of other chipset makers demonstrated a working example of Google's Android (mobile operating system) on functional hardware. The prototype device is said to prove the speed of the Linux-based software on even obsolete hardware. The version of the software on display also confirms several interface elements that bear a resemblance to Apple

Mixed Reactions for New Android User Interface
    2008-02-14 09:04:13
We were looking at an article on Gizmodo this morning that has a short video showing how the new SDK looks running basic functions like making a call. After watching the video, we glanced through some of the comments from readers as they reacted to how it looks. It seems like this UI is polarizing people. Either it's loved, or hated. We'd like to point out one thing. This is a bare bones developers kit, designed for people to 'sex up' however they see fit. It can be equated this way. CSS and HTML are the backbone for most websites today. It can be very basic when left alone, or it can be some of the most practical and beautiful stuff you'll encounter. It's up to the person using the basic rules and code. If you were here last week and saw the article on The Astonishing Tribe, you saw one of the companies involved in the Open Handset Alliance. TAT specifically designs user interfaces (UI) for mobile devices and their work is among the best in the world. We know we sound like

TI Closer to Releasing Android Device
    2008-02-14 08:12:54
Take a look at that picture right there. See that? It's the closest thing to an actual device running Android yet. That is, aside from the prototypes we've been seeing all along. Incredibly bulky and completely un-sexy, we'd still rock the crap out of it. Why? Because nobody else has one yet. Imagine the looks on faces when you break that bad boy out. "Oh this? Well, it's the future my good man."For a more complete gallery of the device, head over to Engadget Mobile. Apparently, Texas Instruments is slated to start shipping this thing to developers within the next two months. Android Initial Reactions (Meta Review) - UPDATE

Rather than do a post for each tech site out there, we're going to do a meta-review for all of the initial reactions coming in from around the web. Bookmark this post or subscribe to the feed as we'll be busy with this one! It's definitely very promising," an analyst for technology research firm Gartner, Carolina Milanesi, told AFP. Android Running on Touch Screen Handsets
    2008-02-12 14:39:24
PhoneMag.com has video up from MWC with Android running on an older E28 handset. It's a tad bit sluggish when compared to the other prototypes, but that's no cause for concern. The hardware inside that device is antiquated when you match it up to today's current designs. Add another 6 months worth of technology from companies like nVidia, TI, Intel and Qualcomm and you'll be just fine running it later this year. Android Makes Debut
    2008-02-11 12:50:43
Stuart Miles from Pocket-Lint got his hands on the ARM prototype running Android in Barcelona today. His initial reaction gives us AndroidGuys warm fuzzies. The early prototype that Pocket-lint was shown was running on the company's ARM 9 chip, two generations old, on a device that is unlikely to come to market, however that still didn't stop it performing incredibly quickly. The interface also had a very Apple feel to it, heavily graphical in its interface. Head over to Pocket-Lint for the small gallery of photos. We're dying to see touch screen versions of this. If you've seen Android in action before, you've essentially seen most of these pictures. Steve Jobs: 'Android Hurts Google More Than Helps'
    2008-01-16 11:59:23
John Markoff (NY Times) was able to spend a half hour with Jobs yesterday after his keynote address where he debuted the Macbook Air. While he had the chance, Markoff asked Jobs about Amazon's Kindle device and Google's Android project. Even though it's only a couple of sentences, it is rather telling of his feelings. Having created a phone its a lot harder than it looks,” he said. “We’ll see how good their software is and we’ll see how consumers like it and how quickly it is adopted.” In seeking not to get locked out of the mobile phone world, “I actually think Google has achieved their goal without Android, and I now think Android hurts them more than it helps them. It’s just going to divide them and people who want to be their partners. It appears to us that he recognizes a legitimate threat to his closed-ended approach to mobile phones with AT&T. We're not taking anything away from Steve as we respect him greatly for the ideas and devices he's helped pioneer over the years. We feel, though, that once Android establishes itself in the market, Apple will adjust their strategies to resemble it more closely. Don't forget that the backbone for the iPhone is the same Android. When companies start offering devices that look nearly identical in every aspect, Apple will need to work harder to differentiate themselves.Eerily reminiscent quote: Palm's CEO Ed Colligan said something very similar of Apple just after the iPhone announcement. We've learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone. PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They're not going to just walk in. Alright, it's official. Confirming what we reported on last week, A La Mobile is the first company to offer a complete package of software based on Android. This is another step in making things feel more real each passing week. Although it's an older HTC phone, it still looks just as good as some of the other devices we've seen. On top of that, it does not need to be hacked onto the device just to get it to run.The demo unit includes a Google browser, phone dialer, audio player, Google maps, camera, games, calendar, contacts manager, calculator and notes installed. Pretty much the standard software we'd expect across the board. You can pretty much bet that A La Mobile is pimping this thing to the 34 OHA members right now. What do you think? What Google's Android Could Learn From Yahoo's Go!
    2008-01-14 10:39:49
While there wasn't a whole lot of Google Android news out of CES this year, Yahoo did release an update to their dandy little mobile web portal Yahoo Go!, and Google could learn a thing or two from Go as Android gets closer and closer to market. Go! is Yahoo's attempt to deliver their content to multiple devices regardless of manufacturer or carrier, and you know what? It does a pretty good job of it. Go! 3.0 in it's beta form fixed some issues with the previous version, but the biggest addition is the ability to add your own widgets from other sites, giving you more options to customize it to your liking. The more I used Go! the more I began to realize what I wanted out of Google's Android. If you've never seen or used Yahoo Go!, it's a program that you must install, then run on your handset. It essentially does away with the need to log onto Yahoo.com to access Yahoo's content. Email, news headlines, stock updates, sports, and even a search engine are all included. I began to think "what if there was some way to make Yahoo Go! the backbone of my handset?" I would still need access to my phone book and contacts, but that shouldn't be too difficult to implement.I would never need to "log in" to check my favorite news topics, or check on my favorite teams. The web would always be on, which would make life more efficient, and in the end isn't that what we all want? With my current set up (Nokia N95) if I want to search for something online I have to open up my browser, choose my access point, access my bookmark for Google, then wait for the page to load. If I had an always on option, all I would have to do is locate the search section and start typing! How much time would this save? If I wanted to check how my favorite teams were doing in the playoffs I would only have to go to that section and click on my team, instead of logging into a website and waiting for several pages to load. Android's Challenges
    2008-01-10 10:25:22
CEO's and CDO's are talking about Android and some of the things that might stand in the way of Google reaching the next level in search. Take for instance Dan Olschwang, CEO of JumpTap. He says that "they have to seriously overhaul it" to serve a mobile audience. If somebody asks, 'Where is the closest gas station?' they need that information now, and they don't need 20,000 results." Very valid point. Who is going to care to read sponsored ads for starting a gas station or buying one? Don't believe us...? Users are going to want an instant result that says "BP is 2.3 miles with a map to go along with it." Rather than thousands of results, we'll want 5 or so. Olschwang predicts that Google will not "completely fail" in mobile web but he doesn't "think they will be nearly as successful as they are on the (desktop) Web." Dan wouldn't be heartbroken if Google didn't do so good because JumpTap has developed a search engine and search-advertising platform for cellphones.T-Mobile's chief development officer, Cole Brodman sheds a tad bit of light into how they will implement Android into handsets. He says Google's basic wireless goal is to use Android to better target ads to wireless customers so it can charge advertisers more. By combining "unique information about consumers from the Web," he says, with "other information" from mobile devices, such as location, "Google believes search responses can be much more targeted for Google, and that the value they can bring back to advertisers can be quite a bit higher."Sounds great, but what about all the ads people are worried about seeing on their phone? Brodman says that Android will not favor Google over Yahoo or other search engines and that consumers also can "opt out" of Google's "cookies," used to track their movements on the Web. Brodman says T-Mobile won't blanket its customers with advertisements from Google or any other company. "Mobile phones are personal and private, and we want to ensure th

Another Android Prototype Coming Next Week?
    2008-01-10 09:09:24
According a recent USAToday article, San Ramon-based a la Mobile is set to debut a new Android based phone sometime next week. We checked their website for any news around this but were yet to find anything. We did however learn a little bit about what they do. Founded in 2005, a la Mobile believes that Linux is the strategic operating system that the mobile industry is ready to adopt. Designed to be readily adaptable to wireless handsets, this new platform enables handset manufacturers to bring new Linux-based smartphones to market rapidly while drastically reducing development, testing and deployment costs. Convergent Linux is the first viable mobile operating system alternative to proprietary offerings.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Android Hacked Onto Devices - Video!
    2008-01-09 15:37:22
We're not even gonna pretend like we know what it takes to get this kind of stuff to happen, but 'Penguinistas' have hacked Android onto some older technologies. Behold video of Android running on pre-existing hardware devices like the Sharp Zaurus. Of course, these devices are not meant to run Android so you'll be forgiving if it is not quite as fast as it will be in real life scenarios...right? Anyways, here is a link to a few videos couresty of LinuxDevices.com.Also worth checking out is AndroidZaurus' blog as it features screenshots of Android's "Lunar Lander" game, OpenGL 3D graphics demos, style picker, and Google's index page.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

    CES: Where is Android?
    2008-01-07 13:11:21
Eric Zemen at InformationWeek tell us in a post today that there is pretty much zilch in the ways of Android aside from the GW4 already reported. He goes down the list of manufacturers and gives his findings. It is after 9 AM out here in Las Vegas and most of the day's major news items are public. So far there have been several snoozeworthy mobile phone announcements and not much else. Not a single smartphone has been officially introduced. The closest thing to the WNC phone was one that one of the HTC guys uses. He uses it at work but conveniently didn't bring it to the show. He did say that it was 'awesome' though. So what's the deal here? Nobody sneaking a peek, teasing the fans, or even talking about it. We have to say that we'll be very disappointed with LG, Motorola, Samsung, and HTC if they don't give us a sample at all. AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

LiMo Grows, Throws Mud at Android
    2008-01-07 09:50:07
The LiMo Foundation plans to announce some new members today including Trolltech, Acrodea, ETRI, Huawei and Purple Labs. These names will join founding member like NTT DoCoMo, Motorola, and Vodafone and put their total at 25 members to the OHA's 34 founders. Some of the vendors in the LiMo Foundation are also members of the Open Handset Alliance including NTT DoCoMo, Motorola, and Samsung. LiMo's head, Morgan Gillis thinks their offering will not only beat Android to market, but also prove to be more successful. An important difference is that the code within the LiMo platform is market-proven technology that has been brought to the platform by our founder members in the form of Motorola, Samsung, NEC and Panasonic. We simply reintegrated it to form the first release of the LiMo platform. He goes on to call Android a new software platform containing "unproven code" that Google has only just produced. It typically takes two to three years before handset software is stabilized and ready for volume production. We picture the handset field almost like two competing Justice Leagues. Each going around picking up members. In this case, some members belong to both groups. Either way, they're all 'good guys' taking on the Legion of Doom known as the wireless industry. Corny analogy, right? Get over it.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Another Bold Prediction for Android in '08
    2007-12-28 11:38:46
Here's one we haven't reported on yet. Although we've seen it pop up in one or two other places, this is the first time we've seen someone so sure about it. Google and Apple are getting in bed together. We told you it was bold! Just thinking about it gets us all tingly inside though. But alas, the future of the cell phone industry revolves around a partnership with Google and Apple that will probably be formed in 2008, but announced years later... Also on the list 'mobile technology explosion', 'SNS (social network service) brand communities', 'Third screen (the mobile screen) rivaling the first screen (TV)', and 'Gphone.' Google Using the iPhone as Testing Bed for Android?
    2007-12-20 16:00:33
Steven Wellman at the Information Week blog perked our ears up a little bit this afternoon with his latest post 'Are Google iPhone Apps Also Beta Apps For Android?' Citing blogger Jon Bradford's argument, Wellman reminds us that WebKit is the basis for both Apple's Safari browser and Google's Andrid SDK.This kind of changes things a bit for all of those who have been so worried about the alleged bug and flaws in the early release of the SDK. By letting those early adopting Apple geeks be the guinea pigs, Google can iron out and tweak applications. All the while, enhancing their own kit based on their findings. We at AndroidGuys think this is a very plausible situation. Why not test your stuff on products already on the market? If not for stability and ease of use, then for what kind of adoption rate and interest there is.AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

    Android Based Game: WiFi Army
    2007-12-20 11:53:32
Imagine walking through the mall and your phone vibrates indicating you have a new message. Looking at the screen, it says something along the lines of "Here is your target, take him out." You have come within 300 feet of your opponent. Should you find your target, you will then engage them in a game of 'war.' This is exactly the scenario you are likely to find with WiFi Army. Props to Ubergizmo today for making us aware that such a game has come to fruition for Android. This could be a cool GPS-based game. Think of the possibilities! A central server with 'agent profiles' stored. You can also be alerted if you are compromised and in the vicinity of another agent. Assign each guy a code number that you can either SMS or email to let your enemy know you've spotted him. Upload a photo of the guy before he gets you. Do citywide and nationwide rankings. Perfect for all the guys who still want to play 'spy.'Currently, each city is listed with a maximum of 500 participants

    Android On RIM???
    2007-12-20 08:56:04
Is this the Android OS running on a BlackBerry?! Settle down. The answer is a resounding "NO." To it bluntly, Lukai, one of the AndroidGuys doesn't believe the photo on Gizmodo is legit enough to warrant all the recent hype. He is calling that image a HOAX. In fact, he said it would be easy to replicate that on any type of phone so he spent about 10 minutes in PhotoShop last night making it appear to run on his BlackBerry 8230. We want to see video of Android in the wild and not the same wallpaper/menu that has been showing up in pictures online over the last few weeks. So consider this a call to action. We want a video of someone running Android in whatever capacity. On top of that, we want to know how you got it and what you are running it on.What say you? Did Lukai shoot holes in the Gizmodo article or is he just being a Debbie Downer?AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Google's Android The One To Watch in 08'?
    2007-12-20 08:31:50
www.dialaphone.co.uk lists their phones to watch in 2008 and Google's Android tops the list. "While many were disappointed not to see a shiny new piece of hardware to go face to face with the iPhone, for true mobile lovers Android represents something just as exciting. Seamless integration with Google’s maps, email, search and countless other applications, and an open source platform for developers to create their own mobile software." Expect Android based handsets to top many more lists such as this in the future. Rounding out the top 5 is a 3G Apple iPhone, the Nokia 8800 Arte Series, the Samsung Armani series, and the Nokia 3110 Evolve. Android Spotted in the Wild
    2007-12-17 22:24:40
While it's certainly not the prettiest phone we've ever seen, a Gizmodo reader sent in a picture of his phone running Android. According to their guy, "even in early form, it's light and fast, much faster than the desktop emulator at times. And as a long time programmer, he think it's a lot more put together than Window Mobile 5 on the back side of things. Huzzah! Upon close inspection, the phone looks like it has been taken apart and reassembled a time or two. We'd expect such a thing for a prototype phone or something testing an SDK. Good to see it already out there. It's definitely a step in the right direction Can't wait to see it running something other than that main background and menu screen though. Note to developers: Give us a new wallpaper to look at. Pronto!AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

    HTC's CEO Talks Android

Engadget Mobile was able to sit down and spend some time with Peter Chou, the CEO of HTC. If you are not familiar with HTC, they are the first name mentioned when it comes to Windows Mobile phones as they pretty much design everything out there running the OS. Hopefully, they'll be synonymous with Android phones a year from now. Being part of the Open Handset Alliance, we are happy to share some of the items we pulled from their interview. The first thing that grabbed our attention was how long they've been working with Google and the OHA on Android. Two years. More than two years. He also mentions that initially, Android phones will be more consumer based whereas WM phones will be enterprise. He's also asked about their relationship possibly changing with Microsoft now that they are signed up with the other OHA partners. All in all, there are plenty of things to pick up on as it's a pretty decent length. To read the full interview, head over to Engadget Mobile. AndroidGuys | Th

    Niente Google Android per l'Italia
    2007-11-15 13:22:29
Il sito è reperibile all'indirizzo http://code.google.com/android.

Google Android and implications for mobile Industry
    2007-11-07 23:39:59
Google's decision to launch its new platform for mobile Android has left mobile companies shaken and people debating over what exactly are Google's plans Wall Street Journal provides a detailed analysis and points out how it is an effort by Google to create an ecosystem on mobile which is similar to that of web.Google won't make money on Android itself, but the company believes it will create new opportunities for Google to sell ads on mobile phones, something executives have characterized as the company's biggest business opportunity. Google is betting that easier access to the Internet from mobile phones will lead people to use its services more, as has been the case with Web access on the personal computer. Google's Mr. Rubin said ads will appear on the phones as they normally do when a user surfs the Web. The company may also sell ads for some developers of applications that run on the phones. (The name of the new platform stems from Google's 2005 purchase of Android Inc., a
