Now the San Francisco Chronicle wants to impose a similar ban on the use of credit cards to make purchases from online pharmacies. … Credit cards and other payment systems, once seen as a potential route to financial flexibility, have become tools of political control. On Anonymous Bloggers
    2008-03-10 05:23:53
Since last week I have been following closely the intense debate among expats in Indonesia about anonymous blogger, an issue raised by Fatih Suyud when he awarded Rob Baiton as the blogger of the week and praised Rob as one of the few Western bloggers who reveals his own true identity. Fatih actually has written a lot of postings about what he calls ghost bloggers - 7 actually including the Rob Baiton's posting - but this time he has successfully attracted many comments and ripostes, perhaps because he specifically targets 'foreign expatriates who blog on Indonesia' under the pseudonymous.Unspun reacted at the same day, and clipped Fatih's post on his blog and said that he thoroughly agrees with Fatih. John Orford, Jakartass, Oigal and Treespotter contributed their thoughts on this issue on their own blogs as well as left passionate comments on each other's respectively. Oigal was the first one to react at Unspun's, saying that he "will declare my real name and KTP the moment you can g...

    On Anonymous Bloggers (2)
    2008-03-10 05:22:25
There was a big hoo-ha a while a go when Fatih raised an old issue about anonymous blogging. He particularly dislikes those who blog anonymously on sensitive issues, like politics or religions, and suspect that they have hidden agendas. Fatih's post generated ripostes and comments from expats in Indonesia.Unspun, stands firmly behind Fatih, showed how bad anonymous blogger can be, by clipping an article from The New York Times about a suicide of an advertising agency's creative director in Chicago, allegedly after couldn't handle the harsh criticism from AgencySpy and AdScam, two blogs written by advertising industry insiders. clipped from www.nytimes.comVisitors to AgencySpy and AdScam, two sharp-tongued blogs written by advertising industry insiders, posted comments blaming the sites for contributing to the suicide late last month of Paul Tilley, 40, the creative director of DDB Chicago. In so doing, bloggers and their readers added another chapter in a long debate about how, or wh...

Anonymous Comment Day: Your Biggest Mistake
    2008-02-20 08:46:00
My dumb writing group decided the prompt for this month would be "Mistakes." Consequently, I've spent all month trying to think about what to write about and dredging up all the memories of my biggest mistakes. It hasn't made for a good month. So I'm passing the bad energy on to you because I'm nice like that. Maybe your comments will help me come up with something creative for my writing group. So the question is, what is the the biggest or worst mistake you've ever made? I'm a little afraid to see what's going to happen with this question but hope it will make for some killer comments. As always, only anonymous comments allowed and I'll anonymize (yes, when you are as cool as me you can make up words) any comments that aren't....

Anonymous Comment Day: Facing Your Securities
    2008-01-17 02:00:00
After reading a great post today by one of my blogger favorites, Dalene, I decided to idea plunder for my post. Dalene asked her readers to step up and admit what they are good at. She talked about how hard it was for her to admit out loud that she's a good writer. She had to guts to finally admit her strengths publicly. Shocking, know. It's been ingrained in me not to "brag" so instead I go around touting my inabilities more than my abilities. That can't be good for business. Why not give ourselves a shot? Surely there is something you do fabulously. Brag. Tell us what you are good at. But do it anonymously so that you can really give us the truth (I realize this defeats the point of Dalene's post, but I don't believe many of us are ready for that kind of self-loving). I will change any non-anonymous comments to anonymous as soon as I see them so don't even try. Colleen, I'm going to know it's you when the "I make great pie crust" comment comes in, but I'll try and fake ignorance.Alright, everyone, let the brag-fest begin!...

    Ways to anonymous
    2007-12-18 00:30:00
People always concern about anonymity while they were connecting to Internet. Some people need to be anonymous because they afraid about personal information they have such a user name and password could be saw by other people around the net.Anonymous commercial transactions can protect the privacy of people. Some people prefer to use cash when buying everyday goods (like groceries or tools), to prevent sellers from aggregating information or soliciting them in the future. (Credit cards are linked to a person's name, and can be used to discover other information, such as postal address, phone number, etc.) When purchasing taboo goods and services, anonymity makes many potential people more comfortable with or more willing to engage in the transaction. Many loyalty programs use cards which personally identify the people engaging in each transaction (possibly for later solicitation, or for redemption or security purposes), or which act as a numerical pseudonym, for use in data mining. An...

The Twelve Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous
    2007-10-23 07:16:56
There are believed to be over 250 different types of 12 step programs today in 2007. The first and still the largest is Alcoholic Anonymous founded in 1935. The 12 steps of AA are: 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol--that our lives had become unmanageable. 2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. 5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. 8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. 9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. 10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong pro...

Control Freaks Parenting Teens Anonymous (otherwise known as CFPTA)
    2007-09-03 04:01:19
Hi, my name is Claudia and I'm a control freak. It's been 58 minutes since my last "control freak' episode.Parenting teens is difficult when you're a control freak because you can only control teenagers to a certain extent. Being an adoptive parent to several kids with mental health issues and a pastor's wife simultaneously can be a very difficult endeavor. It's a good thing that I've never been a person who cared much about what other people thought, because this would kill me.This morning, I'm sitting in church in the 4th row behind Dominyk who declares, too loudly for my liking, that he "hates communion." A few minutes later Salinda goes up for communion and I realize that she has taken the skirt that I almost didn't buy because I thought it was too short and cut it even shorter. The alteration job was quite ammateur and it looks terrible. And of course this is the week where we stand at the alter while communion is served so that everyone had a good 2 minutes to stare...

Story #33: Anonymous Letter to Richard Dawkins
    2007-08-18 13:11:00
Dear Dr. Dawkins,I have no idea if you yourself will read this, but I wanted to share my story with you anyway because you are such an important figure in my life. I can never thank you enough for the ways that your work has set me free and enhanced my life. This isn't so much a story of how your work has converted me to atheism as it is a story of how your work has made me confident and secure in my atheism.I was born into a strange family. On the surface we were Mormons, but our lives moved with a deeper current of Evangelical Christianity. When I was six years old, my parents divorced - the greatest scandal my family has ever seen - and my mother moved my sister and me out of rural Idaho and into the more open-minded "blue state" of Washington. I shudder to think how I would have turned out if I'd stayed solely under the influence of my patriarchal, bible-thumping Idaho family. My mother still felt that it was important for our development to know our father and his side of the fa...
