| | Solar Power could save Antarctica and its beauties | | 2008-05-25 17:18:41 | | Processes of Climate changes could be addressed properly, if only we decide to switch from fossil fuels, which generates green house gases, to renewable energy sources.Endless solar power, wind, geothermal and hydrogen economy in the second phase of this urgent project are so very viable and easy to perform with our current technological knowledge. It is going to cost much less than $1 billion to achieve 50% efficiency rate of solar cells, yet the government is struggling to find the financial resources to finance the project and covers all researches under the secret military program.Only the war in Iraq is going to cost much more than $3000 billion! And thousands of casualties. And the record oil prices. And catastrophic financial credit crisis. When our leaders are going to accept FREE, ENDLESS and CLEAN solar power, wind, geothermal and hydrogen economy? When our leaders are going to realize that the life on Earth is dying, because of our extensive pollution? When we are going to use the | | By: Solar Shingles | | |
| | Tax Court: Antarctica Not a Foreign Country for Tax Purposes | | 2008-03-11 00:00:00 | | The federal government taxes U.S. citizens on all income wherever it is earned, but those working and living abroad in a "foreign country" for a certain number of days may exclude a certain dollar amount of wages earned overseas under section 911 of the Internal Revenue Code. Durant and Mette Cephers spent much of 2001 and 2002 at the McMurdo Station on Ross Island, Antarctica, and their tax returns excluded income as outlined in section 911 as having been earned in a foreign country. The U.S. Tax Court ruled yesterday in Cephers v. Commissioner that the wages were improperly excluded because Antarctica is not a foreign country. They cited a previous ruling, Arnette v. Commissioner, which held that a "foreign country" is a territory under the sovereignty of a government other than the United States or its possessions. Because Antarctica has no government under the terms of the 1961 Antarctic Treaty, it does not meet the definition.Section 911 is meant to g | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

It is assumed that it will reduce the risk and cost in in scientific research. A report said that, the project will start on october 2007, will use a tank-like robot that can not only easily move through ice, but also fly through low-altitude. It's weight is about 200kg, and it can carry 40kg easily and can pull 100kg within working radius of 25km. It has a differential global positioning system (DGPS) and a meteorological observation device by which the robot can easily automatically stride across ice crevices and snowy slopes. According to the report, another robot, of 20kg and with a flying speed of50 to 100 km/hour will be there. It has an infra-red radiometer for observing ice on the sea and an aerial camera. | | Antarctica: The Secret Land | | 2007-06-11 00:10:56 | | Antarctica is truly the last frontier. Its distance and inaccessibility easily lend itself to speculation and rumor. Beginning with enigmatic ancient maps, which some believe show the southern continent as it looks without ice and snow, its existence has remained shrouded in mystery as well as ice. Many theorize Atlantis is to be found there; Internet rumors claim there are satellite images which reveal an anomaly beneath the ice, replete with the concentric circles Plato wrote about, though I couldn’t find them. Not surprising; such a find would rock the scientific world in terms of the age of civilization. Some alternative researchers however do suggest that Antarctica used to lie in tropical regions before the last pole shift, and was the site of a flourishing ancient society.
Searches for “Antarctica anomaly” yielded a work of fiction some claim could be a disinformation campaign for what scientists have really discovered down there. Another involves Lake Vostok, the | | By: Surfing the Tao

If they melted, it would "spring back" about 500m (1 625 ft). Scotland and Scandinavia are still rebounding today after the last ice age - at the rate of half a meter a century in the Northern Baltic - the fastest place. The cold and dry conditions in the "Dry Valleys" region of Antarctica are so close to those on Mars that NASA did testing there for the Viking mission. It has not rained in the dry valleys for at least 2 million years. One of the biggest icebergs ever (maybe the biggest) broke free from the Ross ice shelf in Antarctica in 2000.It was 295km long and 37km wide, with a surface area of 11,000 sq km (4,250 square miles) above water - and 10 times bigger below. Its size is equivalent to that of the Bahamas, or Connecticut.During the feeding season in Antarctica, a full grown blue whale eats about 4 million krill (s | | By: Infinitely CRAZY
