Usually the English Courtesan prefers her giltwood subtle, with perhaps a little English parcel gilt and walnut, but this one just shrieks with shockingly bouffant buy-me-ness. Not only is it upholstered in pastel pink with golden fronds, but it's graced with a louchely smirking Bacchus mask on each side too! What more could you possibly ask for in an antique footstool?The French were fond of giltwood at that time and they certainly liked a good bacchanal but to the English Courtesan the legs of the footstool look a bit too clumpy to be French and she thinks it's Italian. It has been reupholstered recently but it still needs a bit of work as you can see if you enlarge the photo. One leg looks to be a bit loose or has had a dodgy repair (it should be red oxide showing through not that yellow stuff). It measures a portly 15 1/2" in diameter but for health and safety reasons the English Courtesan must advise the readers against seating more than one on it at a time.
