    Smoker’s Apron
    2007-07-07 11:15:57
More great advertisement. If someone hired me to do a product shot of the Smoker’s Bib this would be exactly what I would have come up with. Classic! Smoker’s bib Stop fumbled lit cigarettes and dropped lit ashes from burning holes in senior’s clothing. Flame retardent apron stretches across chairs armrest to prevent hot cigarette end from falling onto clothing or be- tween you and the chair. Light-weight, machine-washable fabric meets NFPA 701 flame retardent requirements. Link: Smoker’s Bib

"Ward have you seen my pink polka dot reversible apron?"
    2006-10-07 13:50:00
That's what I imagined when I lightly pressed this delightful half apron from the 50s and prepared it for sale. June Cleaver would look positively darling wearing the above with a coordinating full skirted day dress along with the customary string of pearls as she readies Wally's & the Beav's lunches for the day. Of course it's hard to believe June herself wouldn't know exactly where it was (in the designated "apron drawer", naturally).I'm not putting down the wearing of aprons, a clear symbol of domesticity. I think they're indisposable. I have my very own apron shelf - I'm partial to the full body bib style apron myself as I seem to be especially messy and a half just won't do. And I'm happy that vintage aprons are experiencing a resurgence in popularity of sorts with collectors - so eloquently illustrated in this wonderful article by Ted Kreiter, first published in the Saturday Evening Post. It touches on so many aspects of this little utilitarian garment & what it represents - home and hearth, family, good food, security, warmth, etc. That's why I always keep a small assortment in stock & can't help but to buy them when I run across them. So much sentimentality wrapped up in a small piece of colorful calico fabric with ties in the back. And it sure beats wiping your hands on the seat of your jeans (or polished cotton floral day dress).

    Healthier Apron Strings
    2006-08-22 20:19:00
Admittedly, my recent activity on The Suburban Apron Company has been less than frequent. For this, I apologize. I have been extremely busy with several other projects, commanding complete personal commitment. However active in these varied pursuits, I have not forgotten The Suburban Apron Company; on the contrary, I've been giving this site much thought, regarding both its content and readers.Inspired by my recent interviews with The Hippy Gourmet and Christina Pirello, I have been seriously considering incorporating healthier baking and cooking into recipes featured on this site. While I do not have any intentions of transforming this site into a health-foods forum, I do intend to complement my usual heavy cream and sugar-laden posts with those containing recipes that are more nutritious. I am not abandoning my lovely sweet and savory dishes; I simply plan to include some additional recipes that are rich and delicious, while remaining healthy. Hopefully, these healthier choices will be as eagerly accepted as all of my previous recipes have been for The Suburban Apron Company.Until we meet for coffee,Julie
