It was a good thing that my copy of Kite was the edited one so a lot of the heavy graphic scenes and such were cut out. Buuut, curiosity always gets the best of me, so I looked for the director's cut. It left me quite speechless after. It's definitely not for kids with all the excessive violence, sexual scenes, more violence and a whole lot of sexual scenes. The morals reflected throughout the movie isn't also something that should be taken lightly. It's twisted, sadistic and just wrong.Aside from a bit of spoilers from here on, the summary contains things not suitable for humans 18 below. Okay, maybe 16 below.Kite is about a young girl named Sawa. Her parents were murdered when she was still a kid and she was taken in by a police officer named Akai and his assistant, Kanie. Akai then trains Sawa to become the perfect assassin while he forces her to become his sex slave despite Sawa being in her early teens. Sawa kills whomever Akai tells her to kill and she becomes famous especially because of the special bullets that she uses.Sawa then meets another young assassin named Oburi with whom she starts hanging out with and makes plans to run away with. Of course, Akai and Kanie won't easily let their best assassin escape just like that. Akai threatens to kill Oburi if Sawa doesn't come back to him. What follows is a series of revelations, violence, rape, et cetera, et cetera.Disregarding the really gross sex scenes between Akai and Sawa, I found Kite quite enjoyable. I mean, sure it was twisted and all but there's a deeper meaning to everything that's been happening in Sawa's life. | | Assassin's Creed | | 2007-12-10 23:10:00 | | A few weeks ago, my copy of Madden 08 for 360 decided to crap out totally and stop working and just freeze my console whenever I tried to sim computer games. This left me with nothing to play, so I went to GameSpot to see what the best Xbox game was that I didn't have, and it was Assassin's Creed..at least according to GameSpot.The game started off promisingly enough and I believed GameSpot was right in giving it a 9.0 rating. The graphics were beautiful, some of the brightest and most detailed I've yet to see on the 360. Game play was quite interesting, a combination of stealth assassination and button mashing melee combat. Perhaps the funnest part of the game is jumping and swinging about on rooftops. It's quite easy to run seamlessly along rooftops and quite fun as well. You go about performing certain tasks to get your missions to assassinate various slavers and merchant kings corrupting cities while the kings were away fighting the Third Crusade.The problem with Assassin's Creed arises after only a few hours with the game. Assassin's Creed becomes painfully repetitive. No matter how fun it is to jump from building to building or to quickly stab a Templar knight, you can only do the same thing so many times before you just really don't want to do it anymore. Plus, there are beggars that get in your way as you try to walk down the street that block your path and numerous shirtless retards that try to box you as you sneak by.Before you get bored with Assassin's Creed, it's a hell of a game. The only problem is, you will get bored, and you will get bored quickly, making it a difficult game to finish. Not because of difficulty, but because of repetitiveness. Mel Damski, if Badge of the Assassin is any indication, might be the finest TV movie director ever (who never went on to good theatrical films anyway). He understands composition, camera movement, editing--how to let actors do what actors do--beautifully. Badge of the Assassin looks like a TV movie and that description is, thanks in large part to Damski, not at all a pejorative. Admittedly, he has a lot of help. The film's perfectly as cast, top to bottom. Alex Rocco, Larry Riley, Richard Bradford, all three are particularly good, but there are no bad performances. David Harris is real good too.
But the film really belongs to Yaphet Kotto. Even though James Woods gets a lot to do, he never gets as much to do as Kotto... and he doesn't get to do it as long. It's sort of cheap, since the film's about black militants killing cops and Kotto's a black cop struggling to understand.
