| Food Allergies Are Common With Autism | | 2008-04-30 08:04:00 | | If your child is a picky eater this article from The Village Stream shows how it could be more than taste buds. Pam writes from experience with autism , food allergies and picky eaters. Read on to help your picky eater.Picky picky picky!!!!In many cases the picky food war is more than just personality, taste buds, or (gulp)mom’s cooking……it is often the sign of food allergies. If your child is in the process of overcoming autism, this is very likely the case.Early in my daycare career, I had a little girl who had a sudden change in her behavior. Her sleep patterns changed; she became moody, and she had sudden outbursts of anger. Her parents took her to the doctor and the sleep disorder center but had no results. I knew that she was dealing with some form of pain because she would sit down, bend over, and hit her forehead on the floor, or beat on her own leg with hard toys… like blocks. One day as her mom carried her out to the car, she pulled out a handful of hair and handed it | | By: Whole Food And More | | |

| Autism and the Law | | 2008-04-29 19:58:00 | | I attended a well-known Special Education Law Conference this past week and walked away with some major thoughts and concerns.
I sat in the last row by the aisle so that I could watch and observe the interactions going on among the attendees. There was another room with about 20 exhibits from local and national vendors on all sorts of training and information on special education needs. The | | By: qualityg says ...

Remember: Don't panic if your infant exhibits a symptom or two on occasion, but do alert your pediatrician if you notice any of the following:By 2 to 3 months, your baby isn't making frequent eye contact.By 3 months, he isn't smiling at you and the sound of your voice."Read more to see the full list of warning sign for autism in baby Here.Tag:Autism In baby|Auti | | By: Baby First Year

| Autism | | 2008-04-04 01:43:37 | | Commentary: A view from the CDC - CNN.com One issue that continues to receive attention is whether vaccines somehow play a role in autism. When concerns emerged about the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and about thimerosal in vaccines, top scientists -- with the open-mindedness that characterizes good science -- planned and conducted the highest-quality, large-scale studies. No links to autism have been found.I have very little to add to this article. It's important to recognize science for what it is, and respect it. I know there is bad science out there, but it usually has an agenda, often paid for by a company with an agenda. However, it's wrong to color all science as driven by monetary or selfish means. I think it's important not to get hysterical. have your children vaccinated.

Today first World Autism Awareness Day. It is a special day to honor to the bravery of the individuals with autism and their families.
Today I wore my favorite autism shirt to school. I often feel more people should live outside the box and take lessons from our special children.
Interestingly at school today no one was aware of Autism Day. Eight students commented to me after | | By: qualityg says ...

| World Autism Awareness Day | | 2008-04-02 11:24:00 | | Today is a very special day for those who have been affected by autism. It is World Autism Awareness Day. My family was affected by it, as two of my nephews, Joe and Matt, have been touched by autism. They are both beautiful boys, and I love them very much.April is Autism Awareness Month, and today is the day when autism is specifically targeted for better awareness until a cure can be found. Having a child with autism has been a great challenge for my sisters Maureen and Theresa. But I am proud of them for everything they have done for their sons.Theresa sent me an email with many of the facts about autism:Autism affects all persons regardless of race, religion, socio-economic status or geography. The incidence of autism in the United States is 1 in 150 and 1 in 94 boys, with rates appearing to have increased similarly around the globe.A child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes.Based on data collected from North America, Western Europe and Japan, it is conservatively estimated | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

This is a really bad news for every mother who love to drink alcohol. If you are pregnant mother and you love to drink alcohol, you must think twice or more, because recent study showed that drink alcohol during pregnancy could risk your babies with autism.Professional psychiatrist found that drinking during pregnancy could give our babies a bad condition which called foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and could cause autism in babies too. | Researchers reconsider what they think they know about autism | | 2008-02-27 07:59:33 | | The YouTube clip opens with a woman facing away from the camera, rocking back and forth, flapping her hands awkwardly, and emitting an eerie hum. She then performs strange repetitive behaviors: slapping a piece of paper against a window, running a hand lengthwise over a computer keyboard, twisting the knob of a drawer. She bats a necklace with her hand and nuzzles her face against the pages of a book. And you find yourself thinking: Who's shooting this footage of the handicapped lady, and why do I always get sucked into watching the latest viral video?

| Let’s Talk About Autism | | 2008-01-28 11:01:23 | | Autism is much more common than most people think. Autism is NOT caused by a person’s upbringing, their social circumstances and is NOT the fault of the individual with the condition. It is a developmental disorder that some people are born with–it’s NOT something you can catch or pass along to someone else.

I attended a "Walk For Autism" at the Detroit Zoo yesterday. It was a very crowded event with thousands of people that were mostly in specifically designed T-shirts. My niece sponsored our team from our area named “Coalition For A Cure.’
Getting in the Zoo was the hardest part because of the traffic jam with so many cars entering even before the Zoo officially opened at 10:00 am. | | By: qualityg says ...

| Autism (ASD) Students Inclusion in the General Education Classroom - 2006-2007 - (Updated 06/14//07) - End of Year | | 2007-06-18 03:13:00 | | One of the most difficult things to do is to keep an ASD student in the General Education Classroom. Special Education Aides have a very tough time battling the ASD student, Teachers and Special Ed Administration officials who many do not understand students with Autism.Autism students cannot be lumped into one category where one solution fits all. My experience has shown that most Teachers are afraid of the unknown and “non-predictability” of Autism students. Special Ed Administration who make the decisions on plans for the students are not with the students enough to be able to “predict” the best course of action.Special Education Aides are not looked upon in many cases to have the credentials, expertise or the know-how to "predict" because they are the least paid employees in many school districts. School officials and employees are all about credentials and hierarchy for self-preservation and protection.Notice I have used the word “Predict” thus far 4 times. | Quality Education - Mainstreaming Autism-Spectrum Disorders (ASD) - update 10/23/06 Rough Start to new School Year | | 2006-10-23 16:55:00 | | qualityg for a while has been working with special education children in an educational school system environment. My primary focus is children with Autism-Spectrum Disorders (ASD)Both Newsweek and Time Magazines did articles this month (May 2006) on the subject. There is so much misconception about these disabilities it is frighten especially when it comes to mainstreaming these children into general education settings.I’m not going to get into the debate of whether or not they should be in a general education class because it is the law, and being a law each child should have the right to learn in the best possible environment. The biggest problem in the schools is the lack of education/understanding of these disabilities from the general education teachers, administrators, special education teachers and aides. There will be no shortage of children with this disability coming into your schools, just people who are trained.
