| Autumn Morning | | 2008-05-03 09:55:59 | | We went for a walk in our local park on Saturday morning and saw some of the colours that will be around for the next few weeks. Last year the trees all seemed to change overnight - almost like they had all been waiting for each other and then started a great race. This year they are taking their time, changing one at a time, which means the colours last for much longer. The photo below is my favourite from the morning (yeah OK, I mucked around with the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop a bit, but it looks good). This is from the same stand of trees that I shot last November. Last year all the trees were at the same stage, whereas this year you can still see green in the background.Nikon D200, AF-S 18-200mm VR1/320sec, f/7.1

| Day 7: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-08 15:34:00 | | CHRISTIAN COTAFor designer Christian Cota’s presentation, makeup artist Christian McCulloch used thin sheer washes of dark colors; rich browns and wine burgundy – to create a new version of the natural look; a wash of Cabernet in the crease of the eyes, and a dot of ruby lip pigment used to add roses to the pale skin. It’s all about using your old makeup shades and mixing them down with gels that are either shiny or matte and applying them with a brush so you stop at the desired texture you want.REBECCA TAYLORTo go with Rebecca Taylor’s chic American dresses and jackets, Romy Soleimani lined the eyes with a brown/black combo, using tawny pink and taupe to sculpt the cheek (Accentuate/Sculpt), and making the matte lip more modern by mixing washes of wine, pink and a little violet to create a new neutral that resembles a glass of sherry on the rocks. | Day 6: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-07 17:40:00 | | NANETTE LEPOREWe’ve seen a lot of new looks for fall this week; color on the eyes, purple lips, gradient eye makeup, and eye color that goes from lid to brow. But there are plenty of New York designers who still love the “clean, modern, fresh” girl of New York who doesn’t try to look good – she just does. Polly Osmond gave Nanette’s wavy-haired women a pale pink lip with tinted moisturizer, and a very groomed brow with Brow Set and pencil – and went for the cat eyes with dark gray shadow at the upper and lower corners of the models’ eyes – giving them those far apart eyes that became so trendy a few years ago. “Nanette wanted them to be modern pretty,” said Polly. And they were.MILLYThe clothes at Milly are always très femme – this time in a palette of black and white and grey – but the hair for fall was highly stylized; tight, almost frizzy, Edith Piaf marcel waves. | Day 5: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-06 18:26:00 | | BADGLEY MISCHKATom Pecheux used a fabulous French expression for this new multi-layered colored eye that goes from brow to lid; “degrade.” It went from burgundy to brown to golden bronze with the golden pigment just above the pupils. In fact, it was rose pink, a new M·A·C Pigment for fall, without a name so far. “Then I put a bit of green in the corners of the eye – just for fun!” he added. The mouths were beige and glossy – all rather late seventies Patti Hansen, Lauren Hutton. Time to dig up your old Vogue coversMONIQUE LHUILLIERMonique’s models had that full-court, all-color eye socket look going, too – courtesy of Val Garland. This one was pigment painted in a heavy gray blue – a molding of three hues; inky blue, purple and burgundy. “It’s quite reflective,” said Val. “Quite liquidy.” The rest of the face was neutral bare, with a sheer vino lip. | Day 4: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-05 14:25:00 | | CAROLINA HERRERA“Eclectic” is one word being batted around to describe the new fall aesthetic – but another one might be “texture” – and another one could be “color,” making a rare fall appearance. At Carolina Herrera, the clothes had elements of all three of these – but the face went simply for a mega dose of lip colour. To achieve her “really dark stained mouth,” Diane Kendal cooked up this mixture; brown base, then burgundy base on top, dusted with powder – then a brown burgundy lipstick on top of that – and black – yes, black – pigment dotted in the center of the lower lip, for a bitten effect. Kendal used a tiny bit of burgundy base to smudge on the cheeks, and then applied mascara. It was clean and very sophisticated – just like Carolina’s clothes. And it had that other element to describe fall: “drama.” MALANDRINOTom Pecheux decided to follow Catherine Malandrino’s fall show theme of green and organic with green eyes – and these green | | By: i heart make-up | | |

| Day 3: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-05 01:30:00 | | HERVE LEGER“She’s mean,” is how Val Garland described the tough sexy woman who prances in Herve Leger bandage dresses – at the brand’s very first stateside fashion show, under the creative direction of Lubov Azria. “The Leger lady is severely sexy – not obvious sexy.” So Garland disbanded with the smoky cat eye of yore, and did a melting-like liquid lid in sparkly gold, a very chalky pink matte lip – think of – well, pink chalk – and a matte cheek with a glistening shine applied above it. “It’s wet vs. dry,” Garland described – and these contrasting textural elements are a big part of fall makeup ‘08. DKNYDonna likes her girls fresh, and so does Charlotte Tilbury – and this season, the models at DKNY were wide eyed and innocent, but in the new DKNY brocades. Tilbury drew out their lashes with M·A·C’s new HOT HOT HOT world-class mascara (not out till Fall ‘08), adding some individual lashes in the center top. | Day 2: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-Up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-05 01:13:00 | | COSTELLO TAGLIAPIETRAIn the hands of makeup artist Kabuki, makeup becomes a high art - and at the Costello Tagliapietra show, it literally represented art as well. Kabuki layered on thin layers of burgundy, pink, peach and beige pigments to create a face reminiscent of a Pre-Raphaelite painting - impressionistic and highly romantic. “Think Mary Shelley and Frankenstein,” he described as influences. “She’s a little bit witch, a haunted woman straight out of 19th century romanticism.” The burgundy color was M·A·C’s Burnt Burgundy Paint Stick. And around the eyes - where reds are dangerous, he layered on Taupe over it, adding gloss on the eyelids. The washed layers of color on the eyes, mouth and cheeks – leaving the impression that the models had fallen asleep in rose bushes - had the texture of paint on canvas, making the faces all the more haunting. “I added a little Shakespeare in as well,” said Kabuki. | Day 1: M.A.C Autumn/Winter Make-up Trends 2008 | | 2008-02-04 22:13:00 | | JASON WUFall ‘07 was the Season of The Bright Lip. Spring ‘08 is the Season of the Cheek and the Lash. Well, ladies and gents, it looks like Fall ‘08 is the Season of the Glitter Eye. It all began at Jason Wu’s subdued but very fifties/seventies-lady show of chiffons, florals and A-line skirts shown with sweaters trimmed with fur. Bow blouses tucked into tailored pants were very Faye Dunaway in “Network.” Romy Soleimani said Wu’s reference was “a little Jean Seberg - but not overwhelmingly” – she dotted the models’ soft-stained mouths with wine color, then layered peach pink over it, creating the look of a girl who’s been sipping sherry. To go with Wu’s stained gold hardware on his belts, she created a gold on grey glitter eye – “gray for cool, and gold for warm,” she said – using M·A·C’s Reflects Glitter, a fine powder glitter in a pot that mixed a little seventies and eighties feeling into the nipped, tucked, fitted and flared clothes. | Tsuramai Park in Autumn | | 2007-12-16 18:54:00 | | A brisk walk around Tsuramai Park last Saturday morning revealed some lingering autumn foilage offsetting the grey overcast day.The band rotunda above is used for a variety of concerts during the year. Its surrounded by grass covered mounds and steps for people to sit and relax.Despite this being the season of consumption with a constant barrage of ads to spend and shop till you drop, there are a number of people who wont be making big ticket purchases this year.Easy to ignore and avert ones eyes. But the evidence is there.Shuffling through rubbish bags and crushing cans to be recycled. The bedding under this walkway bridge in the park has been neatly folded and left for the day sheltered from any rain or showers that may occur while the owners are away.A final flurry of colour before the chilly breeze and cooler temperatures curl the fragile dry maple leaves. The tent above differs from the usual blue canvas or plastic structures you can find scattered throughout Tsuramai Park. The number of tent like dwellings seems to decrease during the cooler weather but some hardy souls still remain year round. The area around the tent has been swept clear of any fallen leaves and any rubbish has been disposed of. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |

| Tokugawaen Garden in Autumn | | 2007-12-10 07:32:00 | | I travelled again last Friday to Tokugawaen Garden in Nagoya to take in the autumn colours.Ive blogged about the Garden recently but wanted to return after hearing that it was a nice spot in autumn.I wasnt disappointed by what I saw as I walked around.Unfortunately my camera doesnt do justice to the late fall foilage.Brilliant reds and yellows almost iridescent in hue.No need for Photoshop or any other computer software to "big up" or amplify the colours on display. The varied colours of the maples stood out among the darker green leaved pines near the lake and were reflected and repeated in the waters by the passing koi on the look out for any water borne insects within their range. It was a pleasant way to spend a few spare hours reflecting on the past week at work.Things are getting more organised and the number of students is increasing.Consequently Im also teaching more lessons per day and slowly getting back into the rhythmn and timing of classes. While it still doesnt feel like my old school, where I was for almost nine years,I may begin to feel comfortable there in time. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |

| Autumn Vitamins for Strong Immunity | | 2007-09-19 09:46:03 | | As I said in the last post , we have to take care of our vitaminization now for being strong all the autumn and winter.Choosing a vitamin complexIn Autumn, first of all are needed vitamins which enhance our immunity. This is all well-known vitamin C (ascorbic acid), as well as vitamins A (retinol), E (tocopherol) and B6 (pyridoxine). They increase the body's resistance to viral and bacterial infections, and help cope with colds and flu. Immunity and micro elements can be strengthen with: zinc, selenium, copper. These vitamins and trace elements are needed to all: from babies to the elderly.Pharmacies offer a wide range of effective vitamin complexes. They typically need to be taken only once a day. For pregnant women there are special vitamin complexes, but anyway before taking them consult your doctor. Vitamins for children usually have bright attractive package, and the drops (or pastilles) can have a funny shape. Most of the complexes are extracts of natural or infusions of immune-simulators: Echinacea, ginseng, eleuterokokka. Such complexes can be recommended to the elder persons.Autumn Vegetables: enhancing immunityAutumn vegetables are generous to us with the needed immunity enhancing vitamins. Vitamin C can be found in fresh cabbage, sweet peppers (it is ranked first with the content of vitamin C in vegetables). Vitamin C is destroyed with long-term exposure to high temperatures and in contact with metal (aluminum pots). To get the daily rate of vitamin C, one fresh sweet pepper or 200 grams of fresh cabbage salad is sufficient. Perhaps you can even cook a fresh cabbage juice: it will not only alleviate the vitamins' needs, but also help with the first signs of cold and inflamed throat. For vitamin A supplies are needed carrots. 1 glass of carrot juice a day has a general strengthening, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer effects, refreshing the skin color. It is valuable not only the carrots' roots, but its leafy tops too. Take the green leaves from | | By: Vitamins In Our Life | | |

| Autumn Vitaminization | | 2007-09-09 08:48:29 | | As the cool weather is approaching , doctors recommend a course with vitamins. What vitamins to choose? Are the plants good sources of vitamins? To successful Autumn vitaminization, we should know what vitamins we need and how better take them. Myths about Autumn vitaminsThere are several myths that prevent the fall vitaminization to be done fully and intelligently.Myth 1. Why take vitamins in Autumn? We have had enough vegetables and fruit during the summer. The body requirements of vitamins in vary from season to season. In autumn and winter we need more vitamins for the support of the immune system. In addition, the season of fresh fruits and vegetables ends. Fortunately, some vitamins are accumulated in the body, so doctors recommend to undergo intensive course of vitamins twice a year: in the spring and in the fall. Fall vitaminization allows stocking vitamins, and serves to prevent the common cold, autumn and winter depression.Myth 2. Vitaminization is required only for children, the elderly or ill people. Even the young, full of power women may have a serious lack of vitamins. In fact, taking oral contraceptives greatly reduces the absorption of vitamins. That is why doctors identify women as having the risk of avitaminosis and strongly recommend autumn course of vitamin therapy. Increased demand for vitamins also have people who are in stress situations, athletes, smokers, as well as those who frequently consume alcohol.Myth 3. Vegetable sources are incomplete, insufficient to intensive vitaminization. You should use pharmacies complexes. Using fresh vegetables and fruits to vitaminizate has its advantages. First, you get vitamins in their natural form, together with the necessary materials for their digestion. Secondly, vitamins in foods are completely and gradually absorbed, as the food digests. Unlike vegetable sources, many pills literally are "shooting" with vitamins, their concentration is so high, that only a part of them are digested. Thirdly, pla | | By: Vitamins In Our Life | | |

| Friday Flash...The First Sign of Autumn? | | 2007-08-31 12:56:00 | | Spotted this new(well it is for me)flavour at a local convenience store. Its the second flavour in the Dean and Deluca ice cream range Ive seen here.I wasnt actually aware Dean and Deluca made ice-cream for the Japanese market until a few weeks ago.At 280 yen for this size its definitely at the top end of the price range.A similiar sized mini cup Haagen Daz retails round the 263 yen mark.As for the marron flavour its aimed at the local market as "marron" translates from French into Japanese as "chestnut".Dont ask why.I think its similiar logic that translates what I think of as a "cream puff" type pastry into "choux cream" in Japanese. The ice-cream appears in the photo above more like vanilla than a green/tawny colour I'd expected. It also tastes very vanilla-like despite containing marron and marron paste according to the labelling on the container.Whatever, its quite pleasant and smooth with a hint of brandy coming through. No doubt I will see more cakes and confectionery containing marron as summer fades. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |

| The Autumn Spirit [Maple Leaves] | | 2007-07-02 06:18:00 | | Maple Leaves on GrassMaple Leaves on Grass - The Autumn SpiritWe're midway through Winter here in Australia, so most of our trees have lost their leaves. But one of the Maple Trees we have on our 1.5 acre property was planted out of season, so it's only dropping it's leaves now, at the start of July. This is a photo of one of the Maple tree's leaves, with an array of other leaves on the grass in the background. This particular picture looks quite impressive when viewed full-screen - you can click on the picture or the text below it to view the full-size photo. This picture, like the popular "She sells Sea Shells" photo, makes effective use of the tilting method. In this method, a photo is deliberately taken at an angle to the ground or horizon, usually about 45 degrees. This creates an interesting effect which is used a lot in modern graphics work. The other striking feature of this photo is the way the single leaf in the foreground stands out in vibrant simplicity from the background of grass and leaves. Again, this mix of repetition & contrast combined with the emphatic regions of shadow, creates a harmonious whole with a uniquely undefinable flavour. This photo was taken with the Kodak C330 camera.Related Photos:She sells Sea Shells (Sea Shell on the beach)To Stand Out from the Crowd [Red and Green Asparagus vine berries]Other blogs:

| Selecting Autumn Flowers in Front Yard Landscaping | | 2007-06-21 07:00:00 | | Landscaping.about Now we turn to the question of how best to use those autumn flowers. One way to begin discussing the use of autumn flowers in landscaping front yards will be in the context of a short introduction to landscape design.
While color immediately comes to mind, especially when landscaping front yards for fall, color is but one of the five basic elements of landscape design. Let us look at two of those other elements to see how they can be utilized to enhance your front yard landscaping: namely, texture and form. And if, when purchasing your autumn flowers, you make your selections with an eye to achieving contrast (either in form, texture, or both ), your front yard landscaping will have neighbors convinced that you are a real pro at landscape design... | | By: The Flower Expert - Flowers Encyclopedia | | |

| Autumn Beach Recce - Rossall, Lancashire | | 2006-10-23 17:30:00 | | After the rather unproductive sea fishing session at Crosby on Saturday night we decided to be a bit more pro-active in our search for winter fishing locations and journeyed up to the Rossall Beach area of our coastline, near Fleetwood, Lancashire. This area fishes very well in the middle of winter when the tides are high and the wind blowing off the sea. In previous years we've had many Whiting and the odd Codling (Cod of less than 5lbs) from many areas along this stretch of the coastline, caught mainly on local Black Lugworm. The beach is bisected with many groynes which help keep the sand in place but pose a few problems for anglers. When the tide is high these structures are almost invisible and you can easily get your lines tangled round them.More importantly, the sand build up creates a bank which constantly shifts depending on the tides and weather and to be in with a chance of a good fish you need to know where the gaps are in these sand banks and where any deeper gullies can be found.Thankfully there are a lot of sea fishing matches in this area and the local clubs have 'pegs' or areas marked in bright yellow so that the match anglers know where to fish from as these areas are drawn randomly for each angler before the start of the match. This can help the pleasure angler as well as once you find a good area all you need do is find the nearest number to help you remember where you caught that prize Cod.We took a lot of photos of likely looking places, as well as the nearest numbers so that we could identify where the images were taken and build up a map of areas to try.We walked up to Rossall Point where there is a patch of rough ground covered in small mussels and tube-worms. On closer inspection it was clear that there were many types of wading birds present feeding in this area as it was uncovered by the receding tide. This was a sure sign of food items being present and on a medium to high tides we think this area will fish very well using black lugworm w | | By: Sea Fishing and Walking in the UK | | |

| Autumn Snakeroot (Actaea simplex 'Hillside Black Beauty' ) | | 2006-10-23 12:18:00 | | Autumn SnakerootActaea simplex 'Hillside Black Beauty' (Atropurpurea Group)(ak-TEE-uh) (SIM-plecks)RanunculaceaeThis plant is just stunning in bloom. I have been trying to get a good picture of it for weeks but I really missed the full bloom stage of my little patch. I was happy to see it at the Bartlett Arboretum on Sunday and it was just starting to bloom. The conditions for flower photography kind of stunk as there was a stiff breeze and even though it was one o’clock in the afternoon it was drearily dark out. I tried a couple of settings and ended up using the auto mode of the camera by accident. I have been manually focusing 90% of my macros and I decided to use the auto-focus. It came out fairly well considering I didn’t know what I was doing. The fragrance of the flowers, it was a stand of about 8 plants, was very pleasing. So was the color of the flowers and buds. The foliage, which a lot of people rave about, was a little ratty, just like mine at home. I guess if it get | | By: Digital Flower Pictures.com | | |
