| What a bargain *Anna-isms* | | 2008-07-12 09:42:00 | | So... the other day I was doing a goofy dance while tidying the living room. Anna was not amused, but hey, I was amusing myself so having my daughter amused as well would have been the nuts on my ice cream sundae. But whatever.Amusing myself, yet again, I say to my precious, precocious 7 year old (whilst shaking my money maker)," You know, I'm going to dance like this at your wedding, so ya better get used to it."Anna replies, dryly,"I'm not getting married then."HAH! Not to be defeated, and not having my fun ruined, I chorkle (that would be a chuckle that begins or ends with a snort), "Wha-? You no like my dancing? TOO BAD!" I shake my rump like a belly dancer on a Mardi Gras float, for you know, emphasis."OK, tell you what," she begins with wide eyes and a startled expression, that quickly changes to one of complete triumph, "You don't dance like that at my wedding? And I'll pay for a quarter of it." She crosses her arms and smiles smugly, "That's right, you'll only have to pay for t | | By: Almost Somewhat Positive | | |

| | Hezbollah Wins in Lebanon - Is This the "Grand Bargain" in Action? | | 2008-05-21 13:58:56 | | Today is a day which we should mark on the calendar and remember for a long time. For on this day, it became abundantly clear that the Iranian-Syrian axis now controls Lebanon through Hezbollah , and Al Qaeda and the Taliban now control the Northwest provinces in Pakistan (see ABC News and the AP story ). Both groups of terrorists won through sustained asymmetric (and, in Lebanon, conventional) warfare which eventually collapsed the will of the opposition, which was not supported in any material...(read more) | | By: An American Warning | | |

| | Big Italian Wines at Bargain Prices | | 2008-04-01 16:12:00 | | Southern Italy offers price-conscious wine lovers an astonishing array of superb bargains for $25 or less, often made from indigenous grapes that were largely unknown to consumers several years ago. My colleague Antonio Galloni reports that southern Italy offers a wide assortment of wines, with a veritable kaleidoscope of grape varieties and styles. | | Six Vegas bargain hotels under $60 | | 2008-02-19 04:21:00 | | The last post I wrote about Vegas hotel deals, we got a comment that said, “Anybody who pays $160-$200 night for a hotel room is an idiot. What a rip-off for just a bed, a TV, and a bathroom!â€I’d like to say that I swing both ways when it comes to hotel deals. On one hand I like to look for value in upscale rooms. I am from the camp that adores TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. This is a hotel room with a living room, big flat-screen TV, separate bedroom and big marble-tiled bathroom with a large tub (with its own flat-screen TV!), that’s relaxation in 725 square feet to me. | | Perhaps it really is a bargain | | 2008-02-14 17:28:00 | | In less than a year, Africa-Israel Investments (TASE: AFIL) has gone from the status of the new "people's share" to being the outcast of the Tel Aviv 25 list. Since the peak registered last May, the share had fallen 60% before yesterday's upward correction, leaving many investors disappointed. But if you ask controlling shareholder Lev Leviev, Africa-Israel is actually a very interesting stock. "Africa-Israel is the biggest bargain on the market," Leviev said in warm defense of the stock at the International Rough Diamonds Conference that took place on Tuesday.

| | is it really a bargain? | | 2008-01-25 23:53:00 | | I read Allure magazine and I always get a chuckle out of their LUST / MUST section.Let me give you an example. They list this pair of Sergio Rossi's shoes as a Lust at $710.And then they list this similar pair by Gigi Favela as a Must, in case you can't afford the Sergio Rossi ones. There is a small problem though, this second pair costs $450. Now, if I can afford a $450 pair of shoes, but the ones I really love are $710, I think I can shell out a few extra hundreds and get the pair I really want.A real bargain has to make fashion and economic sense.Another bad example of a bargain, for me, is the following:Louis Vuitton Handbag $1,100AKO Handbag $30Now we're jumping on the other side of the fence, and buying a cheap and horrible product, more than likely poorly made and screaming "fake!". A bad deal overall. We definitely deserve better than this. Here is the middle of the road, and my personal view of a real bargain.Get inspiration from the more fashionable and expensive brands.Coach B | | By: NY SPENDER | | |
| | U.S. real estate a 'bargain' for foreign buyers | | 2008-01-24 04:18:00 | | "When you consider how the U.S. dollar has slid in value compared to other international currencies, you begin to understand why investors are purchasing real estate in this country," said Mitch Creekmore, senior vice president of Stewart Title Co. "Real estate prices here are a bargain compared to many areas in western Europe and Asia."The currency environment probably played a major role in the proportion of foreign buyers who paid cash for their homes. The cash group (28 percent) was much greater than that of the general U.S. home buyer population (8 percent).

| | Harajuku: Bargain Hunting and Sight-Seeing | | 2007-12-21 10:09:00 | | I first heard about the word and place Harajuku from our HR in Makati. She would always tease me not to fall in love with girls in Harajuku. Well, I finally set foot on this place. I can say that this is like an upscale Okachimachi. Takeshita street is filled with so many souvenir shops, fashion accessories, clothes shops, jewelries, lingerie shops, RTWs, crepe shops and restaurants. Compressed and just one street and this place is filled with so much people who want to find affordable fashion wears.Along Yamanote line, get-off at Harajuku and then when you go out of the station, this street is already visible from the other side. One thing for sure is that your money here can buy more than you can buy in the fashion streets of Ginza, Roppongi and Shibuya.Wolfgang's restaurant is also here. I don't really know if this is really his restaurant. But from outside, it seems that this restaurant serves delicious food. Many foreigners fill this road. When visited this place, most people were dragging their luggages along with them. Mostly foreigners, and locals who purchase fashion wear there.Harakuju, probably, has the largest density of crepe shops. In every corner or block, there is always a crepe shop. Prices range from the basic 300 crepe to 800 filled mango and strawberry filled stuffed with ice cream. Here you can also find those very popular show clogs. The tall-sole-type boots whom women here always wear. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.Harajuku also offers RTWs for all sexes and ages. From children to adults, name it, they have it. There are other parts of Harajuku that are worth visiting aside from Takeshita. Maybe I will post it the next time around. | | By: Rey Ian\\\\\\\'s Personal Blog | | |

| | Future Bargain Bin Special | | 2007-11-10 07:24:00 | | Continuing in the fine tradition of Trudeau, Chrétien, and other Eastern Canadians afflicted with delusional self-importance comes the latest example of ‘them’ telling ‘us’ in Alberta how to live.Montreal journalist Bill Marsden’s new book, “Stupid to the Last Drop” targets the most evil of all evils, the Alberta tar sands, and our nonchalance to the impact he claims it is having on our environment. Painting a picture that seems right out of some apocalyptic science-fiction story, Marsden attempts to describe our province as some backwater community whose citizens can’t get the oil out of the ground fast enough, trees and the cute little forest creatures be damned! He doesn’t limit his attack to just the northern part of Alberta. Marsden spreads his sky-is-falling focus to the south as well, waving his finger at Alberta for "carpet-bombing its southern half with tens of thousands of gas wells." Oh, brother.Meant to be a warning to all Canadians that Alberta is rushing too fast and destroying itself (at least that is the message I think Marsden was trying to convey. Neither his writing style nor content is what you could call ‘riveting’), the impression one gets is quite different.Marsden claims, “Alberta has lost control of its resources on so many levels and doesn't know what to do about it ... what you're doing with the oilsands is a catastrophe and what you're about to do with coalbed methane is a potential catastrophe."For someone who was born and raised here and has had many occasions to experience first-hand the Alberta oil and gas industries, I can say with confidence that there is a higher level of environmental awareness then ever before. All companies involved, from mammoths like Petro-Canada to small subsidiary and satellite companies such as oilfield maintenance and equipment firms, have long-ago bought into the idea of finding a balance between energy production and low environmental impact.Rebuilding the landscape of Alberta | | By: The Moderate Separatist | | |
| | Home Sales Surge in Tulsa, OK/Survey: Housing in Tulsa a Bargain | | 2007-10-02 17:58:58 | | Recap of 10-0207 news headlines in Tulsa Daily WorldTuesday October 2, 2007 headlines in the Tulsa Daily World, Eastern Oklahoma's source for print news read-"Survey: Housing in Tulsa a Bargain". The article goes on to say that Tulsa is eighth on the list of most affordable homes for buyers. Further on the article states that the area has been one of the most affordable places for most of the last 10 years. The business section headline the same day reads-"Home Sale Surge Defies U.S. Trend". Tulsa area home sales surged 7.3% in August compared to July sales. The article goes on to report the local economy remains strong, and the only issue that could drag down the local housing market is fear of the national market. Year to date sales in Tulsa are only 150 homes behind the record pace set in 2006. Average sales price in August for Tulsa was $160,863. The year before number was $150,383. These numbers certainly do not show a slowdown in the the market for housing in Tulsa, OK. Grand Lake and Grove, OK are only an hour or so drive from Tulsa. While the market at Grand Lake and Grove for homes is different and is a second home haven for people from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Wichita, Kansas City, and points far and wide prices generally track the Tulsa reports and I feel they will this time also.Grove, OK is a wonderful second home town but also a great retirement home center and also a great place to raise a family. Other areas of Grand Lake such as Monkey Island, Ketchum, Langley, Disney, and Zena offer wonderful lakefront, lakeview, or near the lake sites to suite your needs and desires. Wonderful home additions such as Grove's Patricia Island, Buffalo Shores North-South-III, or Wildwood Farms offer great homes. Monkey Island offers nice gated communities such as Newport Village, Brighton Bay, St. Andrews, St. James, The Chateaus, Crown Pointe, and many others. The South Grand Lake area offers fine homes in The Coves or The Points. Also, many lots surround the lake awaiting a new home to be built or many fine homes are offered for sale.Don't be mislead by CNBC and other reports that lump all housing markets as doom and gloom. Oklahoma has seen a moderate housing price increase each year since 2001 but not the double the price each year some coastal markets saw. If now is a great time in your life to look for a second or retirement home near or on a wonderful lake, Grand Lake area is probably for you. | | | What a bargain | | 2007-09-14 08:49:59 | | Dear Satan,
I have a proposition for you. My friend's husband just deployed to Iraq (obvious ploy for sympathy) and she really wants a dog to keep her company while he's gone. And we can't get anyone to give her a dog. And this makes her really sad. And I don't think she should have to be any sadder, since her husband is already stuck in stupid Iraq until next December. Yeah, that's right. December 2008. So here's where you come in. Buy my friend a dog. It's the least you can do.

When... | | 2007-08-05 06:39:00 | | Short-sighted Bargain-hunters Overlook DealsWhen investing in the market, it is smart to consider stocks tainted by negativity. Most investors, however, are uncomfortable investing in negativity. It is easy to understand why. Targeting the stocks of problem-plagued companies runs counter to the natural instincts of an investor. It is counter-intuitive to seek out and embrace negativity. Why, then, should investors target stocks enveloped by negativity? The short answer is simple: because that is where the bargains are.Full Article

Although Mr Philips is confident in the Thai property market's long-term potential, he cautions that the strong baht has made Thai property expensive to new foreign buyers, while benefiting earlier investors. Amid the upbeat projection of the Thai market's long-term potential, he acknowledged that the market, be it Bangkok, Hua Hin or Phuket, is lacklustre at the moment.

Morningstar.com labele... | | 2007-06-05 03:43:00 | | Sears On The Bargain RackMorningstar.com labeled Sears (SHLD) a bargain."What the Market Is Missing: While Sears is focused on improving profits and sales at its Kmart and Sears stores, Picciola continues to believe this is more than just a retail turnaround story. Given the presence of Lampert, who has an exceptional record of making money, Picciola believes it is prudent for our valuation to look beyond the cash flows generated from the retail business and consider other factors, like the company's real estate assets and the cash available for investing. The market, it seems, is either overly fixated on the state of the retail business, or is discounting the value that could ultimately be attributable to the company's real estate or Lampert's investments of the firm's cash."
