| Is the Salmonella in the Basil? | | 2008-07-12 00:47:00 | | FRIDAY, JULY 11Tonight was one of those family events. The problem is it is our "adopted" family. The way I look at things, you're stuck with your 'real' family and get to chose your "adopted" one. We're lucky. The Annala's are wonderful people. Sydney (soon to be age 9) played the dwarf "Tambourine" in a new version of Snow White. Naturally she stole the show, and learned how to play a musical instrument in just a week - the tambourine. I've spent my entire life avoiding children's theater, and can't believe I went. It was adorable. Sydney turns 9 ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |
| | Basil-Lime Sorbet Turned Cocktail | | 2008-07-10 07:59:00 | | Again, driven by the excess of an ingredient, I made Basil Lime Sorbet. Whenever I buy basil, I get way more than I need, but I hate wasting the beautiful and aromatic herbs. I found this recipe and it seemed like fate. I had an abundance of limes too.Basil Lime Sorbet~adapted from Mark Logan's recipe3/4 cup sugar1/4 cup strong honey ( I used bamboo honey.)3/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice, approximately 6 limes20 fresh basil leaves, minced1. Place sugar and 3/4 cup of water in a small sauce pot. Bring to a boil and allow to boil for 1 minute, making a simple syrup.2. Pour the simple syrup in a blender. Add the honey, lime juice, and fresh basil. Puree.3. Pour into a freezer safe container and freeze, stirring every couple of hours, whenever you think of it. It will take about a day to be solid enough. My main alteration from the original recipe was using honey. I felt that the honey was an important flavor but overall, it was a bit sweet too sweet for me. As I was enjoying the refreshi | | By: FoodMayhem | | |
| | Tofu & Basil Thai Soup | | 2008-06-25 17:45:06 | | If there's one thing I love about Thai food, it is the variety of flavor in their curries. A spoonful of red, green or yellow curry paste can add such a wonderful taste to an assortment of veggies! After mastering the recipe for Veg Tom Kha Soup, I decided to try a hand at this classic Thai Soup with Basil and Tofu. Its a very simple broth made of coconut milk and flavored with all the Thai herbs like lemongrass, galangal, kafir lime and ginger, coming together with the basil, tofu and peas to...

| | Baked Rigatoni Pasta with Homemade Garlic and Basil Marinara Sauce | | 2008-04-03 23:40:22 | | Pasta is such a staple dinner item in so many homes, it can get kind of challenging to make it interesting! But of course, thanks to hundreds of different types of pasta varieties, and also the packaged sauces that supermarkets horde for you, there are plenty of options to choose from, especially when different people in the same house have different tastes. Like I love penne and rigatoni, but my dear husband settles for nothing but linguine or fettucine. So if I have to feed him something...

| | Fettuccini Alfredo with Basil and Rosemary | | 2007-09-20 01:56:20 | | Pasta is similar to noodles, except that it is now available in a variety of shapes, sizes and flavors. Italian by origin, pasta is something that is loved and cherished in every household in US. It also generally involves a quick and easy preparation, coming to your rescue when you need a healthy and filling meal in as little time as possible. Supermarket aisles are full of different kinds of pasta like Penne, bow-tie, spagetti, fettuccini, fusili, tortiglioni, tripoline, pruntalette and more! Its interesting to know the names and the shapes:) and now, considering the health awareness among people, they also sell whole wheat pasta! Fettuccini is my favourite, and I've always loved the smell of basil and rosemary. One another ingredient that I cannot have my pasta witout, is pine nuts! They look like tiny watermelon seeds, and taste great when roasted. So here's my recipe for Fettuccini in Alfredo Sauce with Basil, Rosemary, Pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes!Ingredients1/2 packet of who | | By: Fun and Food | | |
| | Basil Rajapaksa to wage war against poverty and hunger | | 2007-09-18 19:19:54 | | There are quite a number of MP’s in the parliament who spend their time just seating like dummies. Mr Arjuana Ranathunga and Ven. Uduwe Dammaloka are well-known among this category, and we have herd of tiger proxies in the parliament who are mere dancing into the tune of tiger terrorists and not to mention the political clown like Mervin Silva who was made last in the preferential vote in Colombo district, still somehow creep into the parliament in shameless manner. Parliament is not to play devil nor for those who need to burn their extra calories. It is in this backdrop that senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa is to be sworn in as a national list MP today to fill the vacancy created by the demise of Irrigation Minister Anwer Ismail. It is believed that once Basil Rajapaksa is appointed an MP, he will be appointed as the Cabinet Minister of Nation Building. This is the time where the nation is badly in need for leadership and the nation has apprehended the meaning of leadership. There was a time when political clowns and witches were procession in front of the nation by NGO mafia and foreign forces as leaders using their media network.Still these media networks work crazily to cell their old agents as leaders, but the people of this country has march extra mile ahead of these vicious forces. The whole political system in this country were under the custody of these foreign forces through their local agents CBK and Ranil. UNP never manage to come out of this grip but it was Mahinda Rajapaksa from Ruhuna who managed to defeat this evil grip in SLFP.People were desperate to break free and finally they found a leadership. Now it is the time for gradually cleansing this mechanism and removing microbes from national politics. We need fresh leadership for this and luckily we are blessed with not just one leader, but a family of true born leaders. It was under Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s prudent politico-military leadership that the war against terrorism is winning and the whole Eastern province has already been cleared. It is Basil Rajapaksa who took leadership in reviving the Eastern province economically and socially by withholding the winning flag hand over by military leadership. If any one ask the question of which is the most successful task under this government, the unanimous answer is the ‘war against terrorists’ which is sphere headed by Gotabaya Rajapaksa. That is why all the pro LTTE evil forces are targeting Gotabaya physicall and politically. That is the sole reason that these anti nationalistic groups lead by Ranil Wickramasingha try to spread false fear of existence of ‘Sahodara Samagama’ (brother’s union), because they clearly identified the threat if Basil Rajapaksa come into the political arena, it is economy and infrastructure development that is going to be rise next. It is a bold decision by Mahinda Rajapaksa to elect Basil as a MP in order to get the maximum use of his leadership and talent and we are pretty confident that just as his brother Gotabaya, Basill will justify for the responsibility his Mahinda is vesting on his shoulders. When king Gamunu was busy fight against Elara’s invasion, it was prince Tissa who took up the challenge of boost up the prosperity in the south in order to wage the war successfully and roles of both the brothers were written in gold in the history. | | By: Lanka Rising | | |
