| The Stalwart Beaver | | 2008-07-28 00:00:00 | | Even today Bush Alaska is not connected by roads
Highways are rivers, and inlets, even sky up above
Transportation depends mostly on aircraft and boats
The De Havilland Beaver is a workhorse of note.
The Canadian built single-engine aircraft’s unrivaled
Known as a bush plane, Beaver’s still without equal
As the airplane of choice for bush supply distribution
The Beaver enjoys a splendid, flawless reputation.
She’s noisy and uncomfortable at times, and not grand
They’re all very ancient, no new ones since 1967
Still every bush pilot will tell you he’d rather have
a Beaver in his hangar, than some other aircraft.
The incredible Beavers are flown all over the world
A factory was planned for New Zealand, we’re told
Some Beavers have brand new turbo-prop engines
Kenmore produces in Seattle shiny new airframes.
Beavers on pontoon floats fly in Southeast every day
Back and forth between villages, fly lots of the freight
And for us passengers too, it’s just like riding the b... | | By: GotPoetry - News for Poets. Place to Write.

| | Beaver Bar Camp 2008 | | 2008-03-03 11:03:00 | | On Saturday 1 March 2008 I had a great fun day at the First Annual Beaver Bar Camp Bar Camp is a participant organized event and it was 100% paid for by sponsors, (ergo free to participants.) The idea is when you get a bunch of geeks and friends of geeks together good things happen. They don't have to be computer geeks, perhaps we should call them mavens instead -- people who are passionate about whatever the theme of the bar camp is. Attendees exchange cards, info, and tech tips, sign up to make presentations in a variety of formats, and generally use the old-fashioned word-of-mouth method of spreading joy. Instant communications and www notwithstanding, personal contact is still by far the most effective way of communicating. I met some excellent new contacts. Over on the presenters network I linked to a bar camp video made by Sanda John Sechrest and Tim Budd worked tirelessly for weeks before the camp, organizing sponsors and pushing people to attend. I'm not sure what th... | | By: Tix-R-Us GeekEvents | | |

| The Hunted Beaver | | 2008-02-12 03:56:00 | | The stones of the beaver was once thought to be of use in medicine, and the animal was often hunted on that account. A shrewd old fellow of the race, being hard pressed by the dogs, and knowing well why they were after him, had the resolution and the presence of mind to bite off his stones and leave them behind him, and thus escaped with his life. Moral: The skin is nearer than the cloak. ... | | By: Geeks Undercover | | |
| | | Like An Injured Beaver | | 2007-05-07 14:00:25 | | Last night while tickle-fighting:
Cliff: You’re thrashing around like an injured beaver!
Me: {pausing from thrashing} …Like a what?
Cliff: An injured beaver.
Me: …An injured beaver…?
Cliff: It’s all I could think of at the moment.
Me: {chuckling} I remind you of an injured beaver?
Cliff: This is not blog-worthy!
I beg to differ.... | | By: Smoochmonkey

| William Beaver House | | 2007-04-12 19:55:52 | |
The William Beaver building gets its quirky name from the fact that it’s plainly situated on the corner of William and Beaver Streets in the city’s Financial District. Featuring everything from studio units to duplex suites and 3 bedroom penthouses (and everything in between), this building is a fun approach to owning a home downtown. Several units also have large, desirable terraces. This building uniquely features 24-hour valet service for your car (if you should choose to keep one), washing and detailing service, and the more typical 24-hour doorman, building security, and porter service. Housekeeping is also available, as well as full access to the building’s lap pool, sauna, ball courts, and screening room. And with some of New York’s top restaurants, specialty markets, and even Century 21 department store only a short walk away, this building is certainly convenient. [ William Beaver ]
