    Little SG boy beggar "talks"!
    2008-05-15 03:18:54
I'm quite shocked that my sister, Celest, actually went up to a child beggar to conclude an "video interview". But what amazes me even more is that she actually manage to come across a child beggar, that smokes, at Bugis. What has Singapore become? How can you let a kid at such tender age go out on the streets to... BEG FOR A LIVING! And to make matters worst... Allow him to smoke! Continue reading......

Love Story of a Strange Beggar

It goes on as follows:There was an old beggar sitting at door of some place of worship for asking alms from visitors. When there came the time of worship, the religious manager of the worship place approached him and asked, "Why do you not worship, instead of sitting here in this way". The old beggar replied: "Do your job and let me do mine." he continued, "If one is sitting outside the worship place, but dreaming about his beloved, what may one do then?" Mr. Manager could not get this reasonless excuse and left him.The manager was a regular worshipping observant. On one day, he forgot offering some parts of his regular worshipping. He got much pertinent and that night he slept and saw a dream about his own beloved complaining about manager's negligence. He got up next day and met the old beggar sitting on his old place outside the place of worship. He told him about his dream. The beggar replied, "You forgot observing some worship and saw your own beloved (advising you) ... You could also have seen God in your dream, if you had left your whole worship (That your mind might also imagine in your dream about God advising you)."~+~"YOU SEEM BEAUTIFUL WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY !!"Love is religion or religion is love. Yet ANOTHER Farang Beggar on Sukhumvit
    2008-01-08 01:40:00
Perhaps it’s a sign that times are getting harder.I was enjoying a late dinner at the famous Sukhumvit 38 outdoor eatery (khau man gai, somtam and baami noodles~!!) when I was approached by a farang woman. I couldn’t understand what she was talking about at first; I couldn't catch whether she was speaking Thai or English. After a while, I realized she was phuut phaasaa angkrit (speaking English), just with a VERY THICK Eastern European accent. I should’ve guessed, since she was extremely pale, with blue eyes and hair the color of straw. She claimed she was a volunteer from Poland for the International Vedic Association, a vegetarian school in Hua Hin for poor Thai kids. She has only been in Thailand for 8 months, and she was looking for financial donation for the so-called veggies school. Right away warning bells started to ring in my head. “Not ANOTHER farang beggar,” I groaned inwardly. She quickly showed me a small folder with a stamped letter from the......

    Professional Beggar on Sukhumvit~!!
    2007-10-01 17:41:00
I was walking in front of Emporium today when I spotted this guy~!! Now, I think I've seen him several times before, usually on the bridge that connects the BTS Chidlom station and Central Chidlom (always with the same yellow sign)... And NO, I never gave even a satang to him. I came up to him and asked the guy, "You're the guy from Central Chidlom, right?" and he said, "Well, yea... I've been there..." Apparently, he has moved to greener pastures and is now perched in front of Emporium... Or perhaps because his gullible victims in the previous spot(s) are no longer so gullible~?! He claims that he has lost all his money and therefore he has to resort to begging so that he can get enough $$$ and go back to his home country. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I call him a "professional beggar" because he really is that. Even if there are one or two people who have recognized his ploy (like ME), I'm pretty sure that he can still sponge off some bahts from other peo......

The Beggar & The Dream Butcher
    2006-09-05 15:08:00
Every afternoon on my way to work, I used to stop by to give him something --anything, from used clothing, to biscuits, to 20 bucks. He's the mendicant man by the churchyard who had lost both legs but not his cheerful smile. Some nights back, as I walked to the bakeshop, I saw him on the same spot. I apologized for not having anything to give this time but for one of 5 pieces of ensaymada that I had bought. He gave me the same cheerful grateful smile. I wondered as I made my way home, just how much he and I had in common these days… wondered what sort of dreams he had before he lost his legs, and what dreams I deemed lost after ABS. I wondered why nothing seemed to bother me these days compared to a lot that bugged me when I was one of the top paid executives this side of town. I wondered some more if I could muster the same cheerful, grateful smile if I had to walk with my hands and butt as he did. The wondering had gone on all night I wondered if I would wake up as Wonder Woman the next day:-))Eventually, my late-night wonderings turned to that Dream Butcher of a big boss that ABS hired in mid 2004… wondered what skills & talent he had that convinced the bigger boss that he would steer us to greater heights. Within months of steering our corporate course, he had led us to greater depths --forgivable, had they been depth of compassion, depth of reportorial perspective, etc, but despicable in that his pockets of intelligence only ran as deep as the pockmarks on his face, and thanks to that, our ratings, earnings and reputation as a news team plunged into erstwhile unimaginable depths!I wonder what took me this long to say it. I should have said these words to his face in March 2005, when he called me at the Taguig Jail Compound to ask if I was there to negotiate the surrender of the rebelling inmates, when even the office goffer would have guessed what duties I was there for. I should have said it when he called one Black Saturday, just hours before the Pope di...
