| Lon's Birthday Cake | | 2008-07-27 21:49:00 | | For Lon's 30th birthday, he wanted a Cookie Monster Cake. He remembered a cake that Angie got for Scott 2 years ago, which he loved, so I placed the order with Sugar Sweet Sunshine Sugar Sweet Sunshine, hoping it would be just as we remembered. The yellow cake was still dense and eggy, the way Lon likes it, but a bit sweeter than we remembered. The frosting was even sweeter, bordering on pure sugar. Most disappointing was the skimpy strawberry filling. We both remembered it having a lot more last time. But in the end, we still all enjoyed the cake. | | By: FoodMayhem | | |
| | Melissa & Doug Birthday Party Birthday Cake | | 2008-04-29 00:49:20 | | Melissa & Doug Birthday Party Birthday CakeWho knew that a wooden birthday cake could provide so much entertainment? Our 3.5 y.o daughter is obsessed with it. As are her friends when they come over. Of all of our daughter's many play food items (and there are many), this is the clear favorite. We're definitely getting our money's worth out of it.Toy info Shop | | By: a Toy info : Find all the latest toys | | |
| | Birthday Cake for Monica and Jae | | 2008-01-27 08:55:00 | | Whenever I'm baking a cake for a friend's birthday, the part that takes the longest is deciding what kind of cake to bake. After thinking about it for hours and then sleeping on it, then a few more hours of thought in the morning, I decided to make a White Velvet Cake with Classic Lemon Buttercream and a Raspberry Glaze. It was a nice light cake with subtle flavors, perfect after our very heavy meal.I used recipes from The Cake Bible for all three components: cake, filling/frosting, and glaze. I love Rose Levy Beranbaum's book because you can mix and match recipes from each section to make your own cake. She also gives recipes for full cakes. Although, I don't recommend this book for beginners, it is one of my favorite cookbooks, and great for when you're ready to take baking up a notch. | | By: FoodMayhem | | |

| | WS #12: Martin's birthday cake | | 2007-11-26 02:56:00 | | Last Saturday, my friend celebrated her son's 1st birthday party with a barn theme. Pictured above are the adorable and delicious cake and mini cakes made by Marta, the super-talented and sweet woman behind Marta's Cakes. I have pictures of her other creations, but then I'd have to give my blog a R-rating if I post them here. ;)

| The Birthday Cake is made of Lava... | | 2007-10-10 09:02:00 | | I know some of you will find this difficult to comprehend, but there are a few tiny things in my life that are far more important than music. One of those little "things" is celebrating her second birthday today and even though she's a spoiled, ill-bred and self-willed rascal, life definitely wouldn't be the same without her!Let's make it 3 days in a row! Here's another track by The Floor Is Made Of Lava taken from All Juice No Fruit. I received my hardcopy of the album yesterday and wasted little time giving it a good, loud spin in the car this morning on my way to work. Energy is probably the one word that describes the album the best and I certainly felt all pumped and energetic, when I parked the car outside the office! Order! Order! Order!+ Sucker LoveAnders over at Frekvens.dk interviews American singer/songwriter Nathan Holscher and reviews his new album Even the Hills. The review is very positive and I can only support that, as Nathan Holscher has released a really wonderful americana/folk rock album. Below two tracks of the album posted with permission.+ Hard, High and Blue+ My SweetI've just downloaded In Rainbows (I actually paid for it - £5 - since Peter asked) and will give it a few listens today. Not that I care much about it, but I don't want to be the sole person in the universe (or at least in the bloggeruniverse), who isn't listening to it today. And who knows? I could end up being positively surprised? | | By: Hits In The Car | | |
| | | Birthday Cake for Mom | | 2005-12-21 20:49:00 | | I just finished baking a cake for my mom's birthday tomorrow. It's called a Busy Day Cake with a broiled coconut topping from Better Homes and Gardens. You're probably wondering what is that purple thing, right? It's the best way to bake a cake - I also used it the other night for a Gingerbread Applesauce cake I made when we had another couple over for dinner. I ordered it from HSN.com when Suzanne Somers was selling her silicone bakeware line. HSN.com has many other silicone bakeware options to choose from as well. I like baking a cake in this particular style because it creates a flower shape, much more appealing to your guests than the traditional round cakes. And with the silicone bakeware, cleanup is a breeze. The cake just pops right out and washing the silicone is very easy. A trick that I found to make the washing even easier is to coat the silicone with a non-stick cooking spray (even though the silicone itself is non-stick, sometimes things still tend to stick to it). I insert the silicone cake pan into a non-stick pan for ease of handling since the silicone is very pliable. Hopefully the cake will taste yummy when we have it tomorrow night. | | By: Best In Food | | |
